I was hearing metal and my girlfriend wanted to change the music. This song was just starting when she said "now it's my turn to choose a song", to which I replied "ok, just wait until this one song is over". She agreed. Thank you Symphony X.
"Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied. Home - I dreamed of home. I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew. To return would make my dream...come true." That shit hit way deeper than I thought it would and I'm only 20
I have returned to make my dream come true... which is listening to this song once again. I'll never get tired of listening to this piece of art. Probably my favorite song ever. No words can describe the feeling that runs through my veins and strikes my heart. It's at the same level of a movie soundtrack. Thank you Symphony X.
Alejandro, I could not agree with you more. This was the first time that I had the honor to see Symphony X and it was on this tour. Out of all the great tunes from their library, it is this song that I always refer to when I think of them and have the urge to listen and lose my thoughts along with reality and immerse myself into this ingenious composition of a classic Greek story that I can easily apply to my life. "Seems like forever, my eyes had been denied home, I'm finally home. I have been 20 years away from all I ever knew, I have returned to make my dreams come true..." I joined the Marines out of high school, leaving my first true love to start an adventure that was filled with unimaginable wonders that I learned about myself and of the world. Being stationed in Japan and South Korea, I was surrounded by these beautiful countries, people, religions, and ways of life which were so simplistic compared to the complex society that I knew prior. And although I embraced the experience, I always yearned for home. True love has always lasted over the years, but that relationship had not, but reflecting back, it was the greatest decision I ever made and I went from a dope-smoking punk hanging out on the street corners of a (then) depleted South-Western Pennsylvania city with high crime and unemployment rates, that had nothing more than a dim future, destined for prison or worse, into someone or thing that I never thought possible. And on that note, I am stealing your last line, "Thank you Symphony X" for the ability to take me back to a time that was once bleak, but the catalyst of what was to come on that day my plane left and four years later when I returned, landing at Pittsburgh International airport and I was finally back home. I thank you as well Alejandro for inspiring me to write about it. Take care.
I listened to this once about 18 years ago and I don't think I ever listened to it again after that. I'm 36 years old now so I'm excited to give it another listen.
Jetzt weiß ich endlich was eine Ouvertüre ist. Das hab ich in der Schule nie begriffen. Es ist nix weiter als eine Einleitung ins Hauptstück, und dieses ist auch nochmal unterteilt. Schöne Sache :)
Got this advised by a friend half a year ago, never listened. Monday he forced me to listen. Now I gotta thank him for advising this song, and be mad that he didn't force me half a year ago. This is one of the best songs ever!!!
Is there a better story than a great man coming back to reclaim his land and family afterr decades? Then he finally gets there and just murders all the guys trying to claim his hard work, it's like the worlds first charles bronson movie

This song is a gift from Olympus.
"Seems like forever that my eyes have been denied.
Home - I dreamed of home.
I've been twenty years away from all I ever knew.
To return would make my dream...come true."
That shit hit way deeper than I thought it would and I'm only 20
Even to this day, this is possibly the best song in the entire genre.
Fucking incredible band.

2022 and it's still one of the most epic badass songs ever.
Anyone else get the feeling like they just experienced more plot than a movie after listening to this?
Ever watched the movie the Odyssey? Well a miniseries, with Armand Asante
You can have never read the Odyssey and know the entire plot here

Podrían pasar mil años. ... y esta obra de la música seguirá sonando. ...

Sometimes I can't believe Symphony X exist... sooo good
2021, April... This song is the Song Of The Ages.... Timeless. Eternal... Glory.
It's impossible remember this song while you read The Odyssey story. My favorite parts of this song:
3:40
20:16
Greetings from Santiago, Chile!!! 🇨🇱
I always tear up at the strings part at Drifting Home. Even more heroic and sad when you've read the book and you know Odysseus's emotions.
Masterpiece!
Amazing song!!
Every moment, every feeling (terror, hope, rage...) is perfectly expressed by the music!
Thanks for the lyrics, dude!
My son´s (that never will be)... Ulisses... Still listening this in 2018 and forever...
And in 2020... Love you my son!
this song goes by like a 4 min song to me, its just greatness
This is not a music, is a work of art!
"I've been through battles and cried a sea of tears, but the tide is changing and with it all my fears"
Has an early Genesis feel to it.
Love it 💜🎶🤘🏾
still listen to it in 2018!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met Russ with other friends two years ago, that night he sang this song for us during dinner ... he sang it the same! MONSTER!
2018 still listening!

Absolute masterpiece.
12:56 best part

Carry on my wayward son
One minute for evert year Odysseus's was far from home. And 4 minutes extra for the time he was back and had to thrash and slash all his foes.
Never thought about like that. Sweet
