If the goal is to just get publicity, and not actually be a good wrestling promotion, than it proves that Tony Khan has no idea what he's doing. So what if it gets views (on RUclips)? It's not increasing overall viewership each episode, or helping increase ticket sales.

Its a bad sign when the a wrestling company is willing to stand behind a person saying if you want storytelling go see a movie. Storytelling is more then half the reason we watch. Without storytelling its just a bunch of men without pants fighting over a belt.
Congratulations you just learned how sports work apparently. Wrestling is just as much a sport as it is about telling any kind of story. Yes stories are important here but to act like it's unacceptable to ever just have a match without the need for some unnecessarily deep story is just ridiculous. I don't always need the story sometimes the story of these 2 people are fighting over a belt they really want is perfectly fine cause it works perfectly fine for any other sport that's ever existed. But I guess MMA and boxing just don't have enough beer trucks and catch phrases and illegitimate children soap opera nonsense for your liking. The problem with you people is you don't even care about the other equally if not even more important part of wrestling, the ACTUAL WRESTLING. Just like an action movie some people are just too busy crying about what the point never even was in the first place to be able to appreciate any of what the name of the genre implies the movie should be about.
That definitely is not why I watch wrestling, I watch for you know wrestling. If you want story you should just turn on Days of our Lives. So before you put "we" you should probably watch what you say.
