Well, among other things, AEW no longer has Jade Cargil and her undefeated streak smothering the women's mid-card. That's not directly tied into Toni Storm, but it's a huge reason why the rest of the division feels so much better these days. (Although maybe it does help Toni, since in the Cargil days, Mariah May or Deana Perazzo would debut in order to go up against Cargil, and promptly get squashed, instead of interacting with the rest of the roster.)
That’s a really great point I agree with this. Watching Jade in squash matches every week really bogged down the women’s division, nobody really had a chance to rise.
I think the one thing I don't see a lot of people bring up is just HOW COMMITTED to the bit Toni Storm is. The cadence in how she talks makes it sound like she's ACTUALLY been ripped out from the Golden Age of Hollywood and placed in the ring. Like she was working against the likes of Mildred Burke one day and the next she's suddenly been placed in the present day. It's a character that even just 98% commitment to the bit would make it seem hokey, so Toni committed 100% to the bit.
I love how she pronounces certain words weird on purpose, like 'tattoo'. Even in the 50s nobody said it like that. It's something that's uniquely hers. Also, her flirting with Schiavone could be creepy...if in her mind she didn't think she was close to his own age.
Timeless Toni is the proof that in wrestling almost everything can work if one puts really all the possible heart and effort in it. In theory, such an over-the-top and almost Looney Tunes level of cartoony characters should just be ridiculous, but she is so invested and believes so much in it that her segments have become one the must-see parts of recent AEW shows. Of course, being able to back up her absurd anticts with solid in-ring performances also helps. But in general, it's very nice as of late to see that the women are getting more space and have ongoing storylines to keep them busy and on-screen.
yeah like if you told me 2 years ago that the most over character in AEW's women's division was going to be someone doing a Norma Desmond impersonation, I would've thought you were crazy
The moment I saw her fill a commercial break with one woman silent film I knew she'd found something. This is the type of creativity I search for, she's incredibly funny and found a great way to stand apart from the rest of the roster.
Her inring work, her character is just amazing. She was recently on the talkisjericho podcast, and she was in full character, thats how commited she is.
One of the things women's wrestling in general has lacked are gimmicks and characters. Toni Storm has finally broken through with a character so iconic, it's undeniable. She's amazing every time she's on screen. The presentation, her humor, the willingness to put herself out there and experiment, her witty comments, the deep references- it's all pure gold. All of this on top of her wrestling ability makes her one of the greatest of all time.
Chelsea Green says hi. Not on Toni's level by any means, but she's an amazing spoiled brat/Valley Girl/future Karen character in her own right, and can be just as funny as Toni, though in a broader and less clever way.
Great video. Love the backstory part, I didn't know alot about that as I never watched NXT UK, and barely watched any NXT. I think next evolution for Toni is doing a banger match while still being this awesome character and one more thing. She needs to be able to a more Becky Lynch kind of promo where it is slightly more reality based but in character, she actually is starting to hit that with the Deonna storyline where she is acknowledging the history who they are and what this match means. Lastly I think next growth for the division is they need to have their full roster back and can no longer protect them they need to pick their top people give them 10 minutes and pick the ones they want to push.
What also makes Toni Storms new character great is showing how good Luther is with just how DIFFERENT he plays himself to what he was in his initial appearances and as apart of the jobber tag team of Chaos Project As her butler it’s like night and day and shows how good he is at his own character work I hope he gets a chance a for some more roles like this going forward at least in the midcard in the future His work alone with Toni I feel earns him something down the line Like I’m not saying he needs a title reign but maybe a small feud with someone, I mean who wouldn’t like to see him try for a combat butler role with Toni in a mix tag feud with another pairing? Does anyone agree?
That is one of the worst critiques of aew. Everybody feels different in aew. From Ricky Starks to Luchasarus. From Hangman to Orange Cassidy. From Abadon to Britt Baker. From Danhausen to Brian Danielson. AEW has nothing but characters, honestly.

The novel thought of having Women's Continental classic is so good on the paper... You're right at the end, it takes time to built something sensational! To the Women's CC this year, I hope everything paves & bring the glory same as to Men's division.
WWE dropped the ball with a girl who was wrestling indy shows at age 13 and in Japan at 18. The freedom AEW offers has not always been a good idea, but in this case OMFG! I cant think of another female wrestler that has had a character this amazing. She has the looks, the skill, the charisma and the experience... I hope they dont forget her when Sasha Banks debuts...
She deserves mone when. Her contract is up. One of the best and underrated woman's wrestler in the world not just aew. Everyone slept on her till now not only is she a good no great wrestler and beautiful but smart and multi talented. I'm waiting to see Hollywood calling for her in movies she would be a perfect fit in almost anything.
Been loving Toni's run with this new gimmick but I feel like a shout-out needs to be given to Julia Hart's run as TBS champ and Athena and Willow Nightingale's feud for the ROH Women's title. Toni's definitely the major catalyst for AEW taking the women's division more seriously but I feel like those others also deserve a mention for breaking through and getting over in a time when it wasn't taken seriously.
Julia Hart, Athena, Toni have been doing the best work of their careers when it comes to character and also in ring ability. Those women are setting themselves apart and are showing that the women’s division is on a resurgence
Ive been watching wrestling a very long time....And what Timeless is doing is unique. And to be something ive never seen PLUS be entertaining, says something. (In case youre wondering, i was ringside for Midnight vs RR nwa, in 87)
The best women wrestling gimmick in the industry! Toni is truly timeless ! She’s the best character in AEW & she’s the pioneer of great character work . If I’m being honest if she was to say she wants to go to wwe , this gimmick would get her that LA knight level of megastar fan base
Tony Khan has literally been playing chess this whole time. People just didn't realize that all he needed was extra time to execute things when they're where tons of injuries, mostly in 2022 and 2023 in the women's division. Him making Toni his ace in AEW and Athena his ace in ROH in 2023 was a stroke of genius. Toni already showed him that she could carry the division and have good matches consistently on TV while the veteran Athena as a workhorse champion was the perfect one to elevate more talent in ROH in a short time that Toni could then face on TV Now a year the women's division in ROH is starting to have a real women's division that is able to do a real women's tournament that is pretty good across the board while the women's division in AEW no longer has a weak world title or mid card and is also deep enough to deal with a bunch of injuries at the same time like the men
When she first got here, it felt like Toni was really uncomfortable giving promos, so to see her break out with such a fantastic character. It's a night and day difference between where she started to where she is now.
Really great analysis of Tonis evolution! One quick note, though: The Vaudevillains in NXT a few years back already had this black&white gimmick going. I can imagine that Toni Storm took this idea and applied it to her character. As to what you are saying: I completely agree! Toni has become so over the top in a good way that I look forward to any segmend featuering her. She is chock full of quirks, in her looks, in her mannerisms, in her speech (!), her treatment of Mariah and all the others, everything! So much to discover, so much to follow and to learn, and every single bit is entertaining. And like you I did not think that she had this in her. She was always a good wrestler, true, but as a character a bit lost in the Outcasts. Her transition to solo wrestler with all the erratic behavior felt a bit cringey in the beginning. But then she started to throw shoes and insult people and from there on it got better and better with every single week!
Tranquilo i know you probably dont watch ROH's weekly show but you have to do a video on Athena. She had the best year of any female wrestler on the TK payroll. She is killing it.
Yeah, the biggest problem with the women's division was that all the chicks are just people who can wrestle. Which is fine, but characters are what make stars. And Toni has one of the best in the industry.
Yeah thats what the Shida fans don't get, and I like Shida, but you have to talk people into the seats and to watching on television. Even Toni didn't hit her stride even having banger matches and being champion until she learned how to use the microphone, that is where the power really is.
Indeed. Being a good wrestler is a key elements, but either one is so good that her persona can revolve around that (e.g. Serena Deeb), or it must be clear to the audience who that character is a nad why I should be interested in her. Which is someething we see in the women that connected the most with fans (Toni, Julia, Britt, Willow, Stat, Jamie, etc.).
I think you hit something very important in your conclusion which I don't think is being full recognized. There's been three cycles of AEW, two of them we've already seen - the initial pop when it started, its "big name era" where some of the big names worked (e.g. Danielson) and some obviously didn't (you know who), but right now we're seeing the start of a new cycle where AEW is coming into its own - Toni Storm and Swerve are the biggest examples, but you're also seeing tag teams like the Gunns, Private Party, and even the Acclaimed (which to be fair started a lot earlier), groups that have matured on-camera into their own independent identities that stand on their own. Mixing that with new "big names" like Osprey and reinventions of the first wave (like the Bucks becoming the EVP's), the product is definitely becoming a more interesting brand than its first inception.
Oh one more thing, I think Toni has not just reinvented herself but I think her new gimmick has *massively* improved Luther. God, I *haaaaated* Luther before. Now he's getting to be the role you didn't know Toni Storm needed, but you go, "Of *course* she has a butler." And he's perfect in the character. Previously I hoped his contract would expire, now I can't imagine the whole "Timeless" schtick without him.
Her first run as AEW champion is one of my favorite championship runs of all time and I'm not just saying that because you're doing a video about her I'm saying that because I've been saying it since she got that belt in the first place. I'm not talking about during the timeless run I'm talking about that first like few months run after she got it from thunder Rosa, I don't have a problem with the current run, but the first run is a legendary star making thing that should be well loved by everybody who loves wrestling.
Who's the woman in between Swerve and Bullet Club Gold in the intro? I was able to name everyone else until the letters got in the way, but I cannot remember who she is.

I gotta thank Vince for one thing. Getting Toni to go over to AEW.
Best character I've seen in ages , better than anything wwe has turned out in years
What a beautiful short story about timeless toni storm i enjoyed it well done 👏 Timeless AEW
Her character is so spot on it’s unreal 👑
tranquillo club back wit another banger 😤
She’s the BEST
No lies told..
It took the WWE half a century to build a womens division and people shat on AEW for not doing it in 5.
Other companies are held to different standards, than of the “industry leader”.
Bro mentioned a women’s continental classic?! 😮💨😮💨 that would be moné 💰
I NEED IT
What also makes Toni Storms new character great is showing how good Luther is with just how DIFFERENT he plays himself to what he was in his initial appearances and as apart of the jobber tag team of Chaos Project
As her butler it’s like night and day and shows how good he is at his own character work
I hope he gets a chance a for some more roles like this going forward at least in the midcard in the future
His work alone with Toni I feel earns him something down the line
Like I’m not saying he needs a title reign but maybe a small feud with someone, I mean who wouldn’t like to see him try for a combat butler role with Toni in a mix tag feud with another pairing?
Does anyone agree?
The best thing in aew. Love her
Toni Storm should’ve been in the Original 2018 All In
Facts! I think that if she was in AEW since day 1, she would have been the inaugural AEW Women's World Champion.
@@rising9422 why Cody & The Bucks didn’t reach out to her is beyond me
Cannot underestimate the absolute brilliance of RJ City in all of this. That man is one of the most underrated signings in AEW history
No character? Theres a multitude of character in AEW. Its just not divided into black and white like WWE has it
That is one of the worst critiques of aew. Everybody feels different in aew. From Ricky Starks to Luchasarus. From Hangman to Orange Cassidy. From Abadon to Britt Baker. From Danhausen to Brian Danielson. AEW has nothing but characters, honestly.
@@behradmotahari1245 thats incorrect.
@@behradmotahari1245 Malikai got hurt. Had back problems. And I speculate when HHH was tampering with talent, Malikai was one of them and Malikai wanted out. Tell me, why would TK push anyone who openly wants out? But the facts are, ever since collision was created he has been on TV had segments. He cuts plenty of "character" promos. Its a poor example.
@@behradmotahari1245 no i dont. and i dont blame TK for not pushing him. Swerve was a company guy. Allegedly brought it to TKs attention that HHH was tampering. Put in the work , and got over. Now u see him. Malikai wants out like andrade wanted out. N just like andrade, nobody in the wwe universe will care when he shows back up. Nor will he get the "cody push". Malikai is midcard at best in wwe or AEW. All these former HHH nxt guys thought they were gonna go to AEW, win world titles, and go back to WWE. Personally i say F that. AEW it competitive. N they felt entitled. Buddy, Malikai, Andrade, Miro, and even Keith Lee. Swerve is the only one that WANTED to be in AEW. All the rest want to be at work with their mom, i mean girlfriends.
Looking back at her early AEW photos its interesting to see how her hair clashes with the punk look, it kind of feels like it was meant to be up in vintage styles, I don't know might just be me as it worked just fine before she went timeless
As a shida mark I considèred that toni's gimmick needed to exactly never get the title but holy hell I was wrong, the push mariah may got with this title run has been amazing too
Toni has put in the work, has the talent and is reaping the rewards
Thank you for mentioning my favourite promotion of British wrestling at the moment: Progress!
Great video per usual. Storm 8s definitely puttin in her best work to date.
She's my favorite right now I love her gimmick let's not add on absolutely gorgeous I don't know why people constantly want to hate on this company for everything I feel like everybody just wants to take turns and feel like oh I'm so cool because I like to crap in any company that's not WWE it's funny though when they actually showed an interview with aew fans they were actually really nice they didn't crap on anything that other people liked when you talk to WWE fans all they want to do is talk s*** about everything oh yeah I completely agree aew is women roster really needed help but yeah it does feel different now I need help I'm a wrestling fan I watch anything that's wrestling I don't even care if it's backyard wrestling it's wrestling not one of these mindless sheep that constantly only pay attention to WWE I don't know why people just can't enjoy wrestling as a whole without constantly acting like they have to pick some kind of side like their life depends on it I completely agree I love me some Timeless Toni
The novel thought of having Women's Continental classic is so good on the paper... You're right at the end, it takes time to built something sensational!
To the Women's CC this year, I hope everything paves & bring the glory same as to Men's division.
If only Julia Hart would believe in her character the way Toni Storm does, we could have a female undertaker phenom in the AEW.
Julia is doing just fine. Shes like 21 yrs old.
Juann heart is also doing amazing character work it might not be with Toni is, but she’s doing a really good job
Love when you make these type of videos, need that Will Ospreay vid before his debut at Revolution 🔥🔥🔥🔥
just wanted to say how much I dig Tranquilo Club videos!
Yes! Thank you for this
I'm actually going to a nitrate film festival today. And over there I'll think of Timeless Toni Storm
Yea toni storm became a favorite for me shes great check out her episode on talk is jericho she's great in character n all.
(In case youre wondering, i was ringside for Midnight vs RR nwa, in 87)
I love timeless toni theme it reminds me of like macho man theme.
The best women wrestling gimmick in the industry! Toni is truly timeless ! She’s the best character in AEW & she’s the pioneer of great character work . If I’m being honest if she was to say she wants to go to wwe , this gimmick would get her that LA knight level of megastar fan base
LETSSSS GOOOOOO
Tony Khan has literally been playing chess this whole time. People just didn't realize that all he needed was extra time to execute things when they're where tons of injuries, mostly in 2022 and 2023 in the women's division. Him making Toni his ace in AEW and Athena his ace in ROH in 2023 was a stroke of genius.
Toni already showed him that she could carry the division and have good matches consistently on TV while the veteran Athena as a workhorse champion was the perfect one to elevate more talent in ROH in a short time that Toni could then face on TV
Now a year the women's division in ROH is starting to have a real women's division that is able to do a real women's tournament that is pretty good across the board while the women's division in AEW no longer has a weak world title or mid card and is also deep enough to deal with a bunch of injuries at the same time like the men
The shoe throwing will forever be iconic
Good video
When she first got here, it felt like Toni was really uncomfortable giving promos, so to see her break out with such a fantastic character. It's a night and day difference between where she started to where she is now.
I always loved Toni, but now WOW❤
Timeless Toni and Swerve is the best thing going.
Good for her, seriously. You gotta bet on yourself and not give up on yourself.
Even with Mercedes coming in I still think Toni Storm should continue to be the face
Athena and Toni are 1A and 1B when it comes to leading this version of the “Women’s Revolution”
May you do a video on Jamie Hayter next? 🥺
The Women’s Division has been the best thing about AEW in 2024
Really great analysis of Tonis evolution!
If Blackadder was broadcasting now, she would make the perfect casting! 🎭🎭🎭
WWE shit the bed with storm when her best run was NXT with its the five fans
Both Triple H and Vince Mcmahon dropped the ball on Toni Storm. I still remember H made Storm put over Zoey Starks 🤷♂️
She's TIMELESS
They should make RJ her personal interviewer and ring announcer especially after the skits leading to "Timeless" late last year
I'm gonna say it, "Timeless" Toni Storm is the best female wrestling gimmick ever.
Is it crazy too think before her timeless gimmick she had similarities in booking and upbringing too Ashley Massaro?
Who's the woman in between Swerve and Bullet Club Gold in the intro? I was able to name everyone else until the letters got in the way, but I cannot remember who she is.
Mariah May, she is the lassie whoes "Toni's 1 fan" in their group and trying to get Toni to pay attention to her
