That little range of butterfly is still miles better than none. That little range is enough for a lot of us posers to hit some poses that otherwise couldn’t be done. But yes you are correct, the range should be better. So to answer your question of the day, a lot of us still prefer butterfly. But don’t get it twisted, us preferring butterfly doesn’t mean we also think hasbro can do no wrong. I much prefer pinless but Ive never once in my life said I’m ok with the mismatched color elbows/knees. Never once in my life I said the disc hinges for the neck is better than double ball pegs. Yeah, that widow body is not the best compared to other lines but it’s miles ahead of the other shitty hasbro female bucks which is why people are excited for it. You gave 7 to articulation for this buck, but you also gave a 7 to the ML 97 Storm (which has single jointed arms, no ab crunch, no butterfly)
Very much agree. It's better to have than not have. I have to mod it myself to get decent range on the butterfly joints, it can cross arms now. Why hasbro limits the range? Who knows, but atleast we get the option. And the ab crunches much further than most of their female bucks. I rather pay $30 than $100+ for mafex with weird skinny legs, ankle proportions anyday. Unless they're same price point lol
97 Storm has one of the best female hip articulation of the entire line. That buck/modified buck from the slim female body used by Blink/Psylocke and white widow. No major gapping. Full on almost splits, natural in all poses.
An alternate body idea I've seen someone else put forward for the Nick Fury Jr. head: the body for Commander Steve Rogers from the Totally Awesome Hulk wave, swap hands, perfect for him 'cause he wears that same costume.
I picked up Commander Rogers just for that reason.& it works. If you're a perfectionist type you might want to paint the neck..but you don't notice it in most poses 👑
@@robertfalcone3025 I haven't grabbed one yet, but I intend to, didn't realize that they actually painted the neck on that figure. I'd be the type to repaint that myself. @@robertfalcone3025 Hasbro in general needs to do a better job of making the army builder releases available, like periodically produce stock and sell more. I don't have any of the army builder sets myself, so my setups are mostly just named characters. I think the way Marvel Legends has been doing the head sculpts and paint the last couple of years is great. They look 100% better compared to the garbage paint they were doing previously. This set is a great set for folks getting SHIELD agents.
on the butterfly joints convo... i know what ya mean, i have lots of ML with them that do little to nothing via more movement and sometimes also make the figure look ..slumpy. though when they dont put them on characters that are known to be are very agile or flexible, i immediately think ' Hasbros cheap A$$' and that im getting a sub par figure. Its funny tho people seem less angry about ab crunch loss, which really shows flexability.
I was really surprised by how much I like this set. I like all the heads and making the guy bodies new sculpts (might not be the best) is crazy for Hasbro. The “super articulated” female body is trash and those black crocs are atrocious tho.
Maybe by Hasbro standards, sure the BW body is good but by modern action figure standards it’s not great. She still can’t lean to the side well or kick back. Butterfly joints can work. Mafex Psylocke and Jean have good butterflies that pass the “clapping test” and they look good. Hasbro just doesn’t engineer them correctly. It’s like the Renew Your Vows body is their most articulated male body but it still has a poor neck, butterfly and torso joint. That’s not to mention he can’t do the splits. People calling either of those the best thing ever probably never owned anything outside of a Hasbro product or have very low standards.
I think the problem is they engineer A figure to work well then break up the sculpt , hodge podge or Frankenstein parts together, add other loose sculpt add-ons, and don't test the figures to see if it makes sense for the articulation and design of each character. They rather say ' looks close enough, they can finish the figure at home'.
I think most companies lack good articulation. Mythic legions, neca, mcfarlane, only good ones are mezco, mafex, (revoltech has weird ones) but you're paying 3-4x the price for 1 figure.
I think it's all figures with butterfly joints. It has to be hard plastic so that the pins on the inner butterfly joints can rotate, you'll have to crack any figure with butterfly joints open, it's not soft plastic.
The issue with the diaphragm was already noted with the "super articulated" widow figure, and this Sharon's torso is just the Widow torso. The diaphragm is pretty much functionally just a swivel. Yeah technically it is a ball joint at the middle torso piece, but they didn't cut out enough plastic around the ball peg, so there is minimal range. Most of the back and forth in the torso comes from the crunch. If you crack off the upper torso, you can dremel away some plastic from the middle piece for better range.
@@suhtangwong Yeah, their first attempts at MCU characters are usually a little Garbo. But after a bit, when they can update them, they’re pretty cool, like Quicksilver
Well if u think her articulation is bad then you definitely don’t want to review the X-men 97 Jean grey. They said they didn’t want to break up the sculpt? The vhs Jean and the one prior to that had the diaphragm cut. The new evil Rogue that’s coming out has that same O ring style articulation.
Yes to butterfly joints and pinless knees and elbows when done well. Jada seem to manage fine. I don't see why being pinless (hidden pins) means mismatched colours. Surely they use the same type of plastic for the knees and elbows as the pinned ones. Oh and I've had older figs (pinned) become. loose over time. I was interested in this set but Hasbro still struggle with articulation. They should all have ball jointed waists, plus necks. Sadly Hasbro struggle to make them work. I still don't understand how relative newcomers Jada make better action figures than Hasbro.🤔
Jada learn from other companies mistake and improve on that. Their sf line is amazing but struggles in some areas, Ryu can't turn upper diaghram but most ML can. Pinless figures have discoloration usually because the joints are different harder material than the limbs. Sometimes they just can't match the exact color or just suck. You can see on a lot of gi joe figures.
It's funny how people consider this one of the best female figures ever, not just Marvel Legends. But this body mold was already outdated in 2014. SHF released Sailor Moon (I know it's an import, but it's not like that articulation is region locked to Japan only) with ball peg + ball hinge shoulders that let her two-hand her weapons. Full splits forward and back with a skirt on (out to the side isn't too good), single joint knees and elbows that have nearly 120 degrees of motion, and double ball peg diaphragm and waist. All with near perfect accuracy to the source material with no sacrifices to her costume (other than ball hinge wrists and ankles.) All that for $35 MSRP
People just like to own good stuff. They're going to own Widow and Sharon. They're collectors afterall. They collect. So they want to have what they already collect be considered "good".
There is a reason that Japanese companies can reissue figures released 10 years ago and still somewhat hold up, imagine if Hasbro or any american companies reissue a 10 years old figure, it would look horrendous
What sucks is that some of the good figures that Hasbro has been putting out have been actually pretty damn good, but by comparison it just makes 95% of the figures look even worse, If I know they can make a figure as good as Spiral, War Machine, or the new Lady Mandarin Psylocke, why would I be okay with them releasing completely garbage figures? The fact that they are an established company that know how to make good-looking figures with functional articulation and they just refuse to is so much more egregious then if they just made bad figures period lol, then I could at least give them benefit of the doubt and just say that they don't know any better 😂😂😂
I honestly don't know why people hype the BW buck so much, I have it and it is okay at best compare to other companies' female figure and articulation is nothing special, maybe people only collect ML just don't know what a good body is like.
@@suhtangwong Jada, Spinmaster, Dasin model, entry level Bandai, plenty of model kit girls such as kotobukiya frame girls, even Mcfarlane and GI Joe are better because they used ball joints so it can be easily modded.

The weapons in the harness is stupid. It really makes no sense. I have the "fully articulated" Black Widow and its way way overhyped. It really doesnt get much more articulation than older female bodies.
Maybe artwork around the top, sides, and bottom. Then the character Render and accessories on the back of the box from what’s inside. The weapon holsters on their chests should have been useful like the Classified series. You can find knife holsters, but you shouldn’t have to.

14:31 OK, even not being a fan of the line, I will honestly defend legends on this point and say I've only seen a handful of pinless figures that actually have that issue. Majority of them look fine
@AnthonysCustoms I'm not tryna shill for hasbro, but I'm just sayin, of the few pinless legends I've even owned, the only one with that problem is retro shocker.
Black Widow had drop down hips. Are you sure this one doesn't? I didn't try them with this one because I hate drop down hips and how loose they get over time.
I would like the packages to have inserts I could use as background. Almost like Firestar that came with an apartment illustration but too small - it would be great if it were bigger. And for waves it would be cool if the figures came with inserts that could be put together to form a bigger background. As for the articulations I always wanted to know why the abcrunch always lean back A LOT more than forward. Don't mind the butterfly and don't mind the hinged ballpeg for the head.
Great review, thank you! qotd: we're never going to see this set in-store, so I guess it really doesn't matter what's on the back of the box. if I open a fig, the box goes in the bin. Yeah, that's definitely the meat flap chest from the white black window that I ignored at Target(it's a Hasbro pizza chest repeat offender), almost got the excl. black black widow to try that lower ab, but it wasn't impressive to me so.. I like Dum Dum, but I would rather just buy a custom blank head so I can paint it to match other figs.
I would agree the bodies are less realistic than the heads, but I never liked Sheild agents looking like dehydrated body builders in impossibly tight spandex.
Artwork on the side, toy on the back. Because if I display the boxes as I do with Classified, I like seeing the side art. Without that art I have no reason to keep the boxes. As for the weapons...I strongly dislike guns molded into holsters (my main gripe on this pack) and also hate that the molded gun is a nice black and then the actual guns are goofy platinum space lasers. I'm always buying Valaverse gun packs to make up for ML's ugly weapons.
i can’t wrap my head around why they’re still including guns sculpted into holsters with no way to remove them. i mean i don’t get why this was ever a thing at all, but it’s 2024 there’s no reason why they can’t just leave it as a functional holster with separate guns. along with the semi realistic head sculpts and weird unrealistic bodies with strange anatomy, it just doesn’t feel right. not to mention they can’t seem to make functional articulation for whatever reason. hasbro is so odd
So long as they're not as ugly lol, I would love some butterfly joints how toy Biz did them, they made them so that way they could go back pretty far, which worked for some pretty good Dynamic posing, but they didn't really go forward at all, so it didn't disrupt the sculpt at all, you don't get that extra forward motion, but if the shoulder articulation is done right you don't really need it, and it just helps for a little bit of nuance posing then, like the new model 20 iron man, if he had the same articulation, but they just sculpted a full-size chest, that would have been so much better, he could still put his shoulders back which is cool for some Arc Reactor blast poses, but it already can't go forward too far so it would look so much better
@@suhtangwong Budget has nothing to do with using an upside down ab crunch compared to a ball peg waist. It's basically the same amount of plastic used
I really appreciate your take on the digital face printing. While I do think they generally look really good, the minimal detailing on the body’s makes it really jarring.
What you could do for a new backdrop is have figures posing in ways that Hasbro figures can't do like have the marvel select silver centurion iron man doing the splits and other figures bending forward at the torso in a organic way
Every day EXCEPT Wednesday I check RUclips to see if you’ll upload a review on the new SH figuarts gohan and vegeta figures and nope! Just marvel legends 😔
Sculpted guns in holsters doesn't really bother me all that much, maybe that's because I've had one too many Black Series pistols break in those functional holsters. As for bad butterfly joints, hey, I'll take even the slightest extra pose-ability, even if it sucks butt, that being said I only have my figures in a neutral pose, straight up and down.
I never understand this. Why do you and some other people buy *action* figures only to put them in most basic neutral poses? Why not to collect just statues then if you don't care about posing, they will at least look much better than action figures in neutral poses.
I think the idea is to make new figures with really good headsculpts for all future releases. So it might not match older figures but they’re creating a new ‘era’ of figures I guess
@@AnthonysCustoms personally I don’t see the ‘mismatch’ between the heads and bodies but that’s just me 🤷🏽♂️ Also I’ve only been collecting for the past 2 years so I dont have old figures and also dont intend to so the mismatch between new and old figures don’t bother me either - in saying that, they’re also remaking/reissuing older figures with their new tech so they’re bringing old figures up to speed with their new ones
@horsiememmo The mismatch with the heads and bodies is that the bodies have a Happy Meal toy level of detail to them. And then the heads look like high-end collectibles
I like butterfly joints because the ones that hasbro makes that suck like the ones in this set can be easily modified to have far better range. You just pop out the arm and snip the pin. Put it back together and range for days. As for pinless joints I've stated ad nauseum why they are better but it mostly comes down to stability and Aesthetic.
@@AnthonysCustoms they might get a little loose over time (wich is an easy fix) but they don't warp on the shelves like the pinned figured do. Especially the female figs. If you put them in vanilla poses its pretty much ok but if you leave a pinned figure in an action pose that gummy joint will just buckle. To be clear im talking ml specifically. Other brands that don't use such soft plastic for the joints like mcfarlanes dc multiverse don't have this issue
I think some of the headsculpts these days still work nicely as comic but just with crisp paint details, like She-Hulk, But yeah, some are just way too realistic and doesn't match or look good on the figure...reminds me of these custom hyper realistic 1/12 headsculpts that people buy for their Legend. So yeah, it's a compliment to hasbro that the sculpt and paint apps are that good but it doesn't match their body sculpts/style or source material really. I think they had a great thing going right before they went with the face printing tech.
If the box shows most of the accessories I’d prefer artwork even tho I also hate when it makes the figure look way worse, I can’t stand non-removable weapons it’s terrible, It’s true most of the time butterfly-joints don’t work and when the chest gets messed up because of it I’d prefer they not do it only if absolutely necessary and it will work then I’m fine with it, Also personally I think pin-less just looks cleaner.
Thanks for your review Anthony. When I received my package, I never thought you would ever consider spending much time with this. Aside from personal experience, I am satisfied the lessons I learned while watching your reviews has granted me the capability of detecting heaps of Hasbro hell. Thanks for that.
@@suhtangwong thanks for the offer to take them but I am keeping these for my SHIELD army builders. Nick and Dum Dum had warped bowed legs in the package and Sharon's left arm was bent. Took hot water to loosen them up but cheap plastic will only last so long. All of Sharon's pistol's were also bent. Buyer-beware on these ones.
For the thin limbed figures, mostly females, it does seen like pinless is better. The pins always are huge and even worse when they're unpainted. The male figures there's enough real estate that the pins take a smaller % and it's not as glaring and seems more secure. Butterfly joints? I'm not sure. Theres probably some lizard brain part that just wants more points of articulation numbers. I'm just as guilty of it. The reverse diaphram and waist crunch I hate. It's almost as infuriating as no bicep or elbow swivel to the point where I'm almost compelled to break the figured trying to force it into existence.
not sure how i feel about the *photorealism* on comic book characters, they work well enough on movie figures but not so much on the comic counterpart specially if you compare a new released figure to one from 5 or 6 years ago. They just look off.

If you're a perfectionist type you might want to paint the neck..but you don't notice it in most poses
👑
@@robertfalcone3025 I haven't grabbed one yet, but I intend to, didn't realize that they actually painted the neck on that figure. I'd be the type to repaint that myself. I have a good deal of HYDRA, but no SHIELD. Gonna get the 3-pack, a Commander Rogers to do Nick Fury Jr, and I have a Quake but will grab a second to have as Maria Hill
@@CandGoods I'l probably pick up Quake as well.. possibly 2 so I can have Maria Hill as well.
I actually didn't have ANY SHIELD figures before I got the 2 Pack.. awhile back i looked into picking up the SHIELD 2 Pack on the aftermarket but the price was over$100 so I decided to pass.. but after picking up this 3 Pack..Commander Rogers & Quake I'll have a decent SHIELD display... maybe the success of this 3 Pack will encourage Hasbro to rerelease that 2 Pack.
@@robertfalcone3025 Hasbro in general needs to do a better job of making the army builder releases available, like periodically produce stock and sell more. I don't have any of the army builder sets myself, so my setups are mostly just named characters. I wasn't collecting when the Mandroid BAF was released, I definitely wouldn't balk at like a 2-pack of Mandroids, maybe one like the original and one in gold
Pistols built into harness are dogshit. And shouldn't the pistol on fury be the electronic needle pistol. Not a random fucking glock type pistol
I think the way Marvel Legends has been doing the head sculpts and paint the last couple of years is great. They look 100% better compared to the garbage paint they were doing previously. This set is a great set for folks getting SHIELD agents.
It’s kinda ridiculous that legends doesn’t do realistic holsters.
on the butterfly joints convo... i know what ya mean, i have lots of ML with them that do little to nothing via more movement and sometimes also make the figure look ..slumpy. though when they dont put them on characters that are known to be are very agile or flexible, i immediately think ' Hasbros cheap A$$' and that im getting a sub par figure. Its funny tho people seem less angry about ab crunch loss, which really shows flexability.
I really hope Hasbro watches this channel.
Dugan has a bigger pot belly/barrel shape cause he's a bit chonkier, it's such a small detail but I appreciate the distinction
Sharon diaphragm design into the chest is weird, it’s not a ball joint. Can’t even pop the chest off if we wanted to, gotta crack it open.
I think it's all figures with butterfly joints. It has to be hard plastic so that the pins on the inner butterfly joints can rotate, you'll have to crack any figure with butterfly joints open, it's not soft plastic.
@@suhtangwong that’s true
The issue with the diaphragm was already noted with the "super articulated" widow figure, and this Sharon's torso is just the Widow torso.
The diaphragm is pretty much functionally just a swivel. Yeah technically it is a ball joint at the middle torso piece, but they didn't cut out enough plastic around the ball peg, so there is minimal range.
Most of the back and forth in the torso comes from the crunch.
If you crack off the upper torso, you can dremel away some plastic from the middle piece for better range.
ML fans complaining about McFarlane articulation should stay quiet when comparing the lines from now on.
Both are awful
@@magicmirror8627 exactly
Marvel Legends aren’t as good as they should be mostly due to budgeting reasons, I’m guessing
Due to licensing lol jk
They get more budget on their mcu line, which imo, are usually hot garbage.
Hasbro neglected female figures so much that when they update it people blindly call it the greatest figure of all time.
@SpicyPsyDuck Hasbro does that though. Bucky Cap and Pizza Spidey body lol
@@chewymew Uh don't remind me
SHF Sakura (Naruto) better
What sucks is that some of the good figures that Hasbro has been putting out have been actually pretty damn good, but by comparison it just makes 95% of the figures look even worse, If I know they can make a figure as good as Spiral, War Machine, or the new Lady Mandarin Psylocke, why would I be okay with them releasing completely garbage figures? The fact that they are an established company that know how to make good-looking figures with functional articulation and they just refuse to is so much more egregious then if they just made bad figures period lol, then I could at least give them benefit of the doubt and just say that they don't know any better 😂😂😂
Why can't figures like sabretooth or astonishing wolverine or power princess just be the standard instead of the exceptions
Dugan’s ab crunch is weird cuz he’s suppose to be chunkier.
I honestly don't know why people hype the BW buck so much, I have it and it is okay at best compare to other companies' female figure and articulation is nothing special, maybe people only collect ML just don't know what a good body is like.
Literally this. They don't collect good lines and have nothing to compare.
'.. just don't know what good body is like. ' heh ...nerds, go figure, right?
@@JeminiThaBard Thank you for the good chuckle lol
Name a few companies with good female articulation at this price point?
@@suhtangwong Jada, Spinmaster, Dasin model, entry level Bandai, plenty of model kit girls such as kotobukiya frame girls, even Mcfarlane and GI Joe are better because they used ball joints so it can be easily modded.
I wish Anthony would go to the conventions and ask the hasbro people about all these flaws and shortcuts they keep doing with these new figures. We need someone to speak for everyone and call them out on their decision making.
They will only do interviews with pre approved questions
@@briandriscoll9685 I know
They couldn't handle an interview with Russ and I think it's fair to say he's generally pretty pro Hasbro. Any questioning at all and they throw a hissy fit. I wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the talking heads.

The weapons in the harness is stupid. It really makes no sense. I have the "fully articulated" Black Widow and its way way overhyped. It really doesnt get much more articulation than older female bodies.
That Sharon Carter figure is a nice improvement.
I think butterflies are fine. Eventually Hasbro will catch up.

Majority of them look fine
almost all of them have this problem. its the vast majority.
@AnthonysCustoms I'm not tryna shill for hasbro, but I'm just sayin, of the few pinless legends I've even owned, the only one with that problem is retro shocker.
I’m an old school Nick Fury guy but come on Anthony don’t sit here and act like you don’t know who Nick, Jr is 🙄

Best part of my mornings are anthony’s reviews especially when its Legends 🤣 luv starting the day with a good laugh
And mcfarlane too

Speaking for myself I don't have an issue with the hyper-realistic faces. I mean they are wearing full uniforms so it's the only real skin you see.

I pulled. They didn't move
@@AnthonysCustoms Wow, that is wild. Now I wonder if it IS the same body.
7/10 is WAY too generous considering all the negatives. This pack seems like like a 4 to me
Agreed, more like an 8 👍
@@suhtangwong 🤡
7/10 for hasbro ml. Par for the course
i can’t wrap my head around why they’re still including guns sculpted into holsters with no way to remove them. i mean i don’t get why this was ever a thing at all, but it’s 2024 there’s no reason why they can’t just leave it as a functional holster with separate guns. along with the semi realistic head sculpts and weird unrealistic bodies with strange anatomy, it just doesn’t feel right. not to mention they can’t seem to make functional articulation for whatever reason. hasbro is so odd
You should check out the New She Hulk marvel legend from the retro collectiom iron man wave it's pretty good.
Instead of the upside down ab crunch go with a ball joint like GI Joe
I don't think the hasbro ML team is smart enough for that. Or maybe it's budget reason, they don't own marvel license but they do own gi joe's.
What you could do for a new backdrop is have figures posing in ways that Hasbro figures can't do like have the marvel select silver centurion iron man doing the splits and other figures bending forward at the torso in a organic way
Great review as usual and ya tha idea of making the headcasts too realistic throws off the comic look of the rest of the body…

They don't match the bodies or older figures lol

Not stability. They get loose faster and easier than pinned joints.
Other brands that don't use such soft plastic for the joints like mcfarlanes dc multiverse don't have this issue
the warping has nothing to do with pins. and you cant easily fix loose joints when theyre the type of pinless joints hasbro uses.
Yeah, Black Widow has literally the same awful disconnected chest window, but it's not as noticeable because her suit is black lol
@@dvw7665 It's even in her promo images.
I think some of the headsculpts these days still work nicely as comic but just with crisp paint details, like She-Hulk,
But yeah, some are just way too realistic and doesn't match or look good on the figure...reminds me of these custom hyper realistic 1/12
headsculpts that people buy for their Legend. So yeah, it's a compliment to hasbro that the sculpt and paint apps are that good but
it doesn't match their body sculpts/style or source material really. I think they had a great thing going right before they went with the
face printing tech.

QotD. Hey, I dont have to say it this time! Yeah. It makes zero sense. Seemless elbows, giant chunks missing out of the chest. Like why…
Anthony enjoyed himself on this one 😂👏
not sure how i feel about the *photorealism* on comic book characters, they work well enough on movie figures but not so much on the comic counterpart specially if you compare a new released figure to one from 5 or 6 years ago. They just look off.
Price point it's expensive, but makes sense, 3x $25 figures, maybe the most packed in accessories in a multi pack yet? Lots of new retooling and molds, I give it a 8-9/10
