Thanks for the walk down memory lane. She looks terrific after 15 years! Richard and Rachel first met on the photo shoot for the Gunboat 66 Gazelle for Yachting World. Merry Christmas to all. You are on one the best sleighs of all time.
And a very merry Christmas to you Peter! Great work on these boats, they really have stood up to the test of time. Thanks for having the vision to kick-start a very successful series.
Yes there have been a lot of advances in materials, build practices and hardware since these boats were built. It would be fairly straightforward to modernize this particular boat though. I really hope someone can see the potential and buys her soon
what a beast of a boat.. I love the space and the performance. What puts me off, as if I could afford it...., is it would be hard to really relax because I'd be so scared of scratching the table or putting a hot pot down somewhere or swiping something with a bit of metal on my harness etc.
i probably don't earn enough to pay even for the upkeep xD on a serious note. this summer I'm getting a boat, its an old one but capable of planing, it has rod rigging which probably hasn't been replace since the 90s, one of the first jobs I'm planning on doing is ditching the rod and switching to synthetic, but i also want to move chainplates out and switch to swept back spreaders, how should i approach this? the boat in question is 7/8 frac sloop with two sets of straight spreaders, backstays runners and checks. The aim is to modernise the rig, make it a bit simpler, get rid of checks and runners, get some RM back.
Haha! We don't earn enough money for the upkeep either 😉 That's the problem with these big multihulls they are expensive to keep not just to buy. Your project sounds like a big one. What's the boat you've got?
Which gunboat 60? They are all a bit different and I wouldn't like to compare unless I have actually sailed the boat because then I can tell you instead of just guessing. I been on the 60 but haven't sailed it. I've sailed the following models of gunboat - Gunboat55, Gunboat62, Gunboat66 and the Gunboat68 and even between these each of them have their individual quirks. They are bespoke and while each model comes out of the same mold the fitout/hardware/sail specs varies widely.
I have been on Moonwave and know the original crew that did all of the refit and yes it's been an ever evolving project. They are a fully electric boat with some really cool systems on board. This 66 we are looking after would need some investment to come up to speed on that front. Moonwave benefitted enormously by having that particularly talented crew looking after their boat.
@@youngbarnacles Moonwave has (currently) a savvy owner and used to have an excellent crew. By the way, it is for sale now, with even more updates and upgrades. The owner must have spent a fortune keeping Moonwave at the top.
Yes there are a few of these older gunboats for sale at the moment. Some good deals to be had for buyers with that sort of loose change kicking around. The 66 is a much bigger boat than Moonwave. 6ft doesn't sound like much but the use of space on Outnumbered makes it more roomy than the 68!
3 mill USD, that's quite a pile of scratch, she is AWFUL PERDY though. I love a cat who's bows are so light. E glass, epoxy and carbon, that hull will last 1000 years provided it doesn't run into something with trees on it. The barnacles should work a deal for YT promotion to keep it. Gonna need some more subs though. Me, I love your channel, more peeps need to watch it.
It is a fair bit of scratch! Way out of our budget thats for sure. Guessing having a real job and not being a full time content creator doesn't work in favour of the RUclips algorithm. It's a shame though. There is so much rubbish from "experts" there needs to be some useful content for those of us who want to learn. Ah well we enjoy making the videos so it's all good. Glad you enjoy the content too.

Best type of waterfront property !
I would have to agree with you 😃
It’s funny to hear you describe a 2008 boat as an “old girl.” I guess in the performance circuit of boats everything is old sfter a few years! 😊

Yeah ...those table covers would stay on permanently with our family on board too
Great video
Thanks!

@youngbarnacles can't say it yet, sorry, don't wanna jinx it, it was a really low production run, it is very similar to tripp 36
How is the Gunboat 66 compared to the Gunboat 60?

@@youngbarnacles I was most interested in Moonwave, as it is the one I have read most about. It seems the owner(s) have strived to keep it updated.
