This is my favorite song of the album for sure. It describes me to a T and is such a unique song theme. I feel like almost every female struggles with this, feeling like we have to get married, have babies, and have a nuclear family in "suburbia" because that is our duty but not wanting that or "the things we're supposed to want." From a young age, we have heard "you'll understand when you have kids", "when you get married...", or your parents saying "I'll save this for my grandchildren". We have also heard about women who had babies and then the dad leaves or cheats on them with a younger woman who might not have the lasting marks of giving birth (c-section, sagging breasts etc) and isn't tired all the time from taking care of their child. But then since our "biological clock" is ticking we worry that we would want kids when it's too late "what if I want them in the end".
I haven’t wanted kids since I was 10- I’m so fulfilled with this experience - I LOVED this song and I will support her if she decides to have kids- the emotions of this song are Real:)
Being childfree is awesome. Once you let go of those societal expectations, you get to experience true freedom.

@@joshklaver47I haven't children for choice (also for a complicated past) but true freedom isn't about having or not kids, of course it's a huge responsability and committment. I think it's about wanting the life you're living, with awareness.
So many children in this world who needs urgent help on a daily basis. Better to find ways to help already existing children who suffer than put more children in to a space that at this moment in history has a very bleak looking future.
There is no need for a woman to WANT to nor HAVE to have babies. Both my adult daughters have opted not to have children and i have no problem with that. Never ever told either one of them, -when you have your own children, or ; i'm waiting for grand children. Nope. Nothing of the sort.
I love this song for so many reasons. I remember my parents saying “when you have kids and a wife” who says I want kids? I don’t necessarily even want a relationship, that shit is challenging.
They are especially challenging for autistic folk like me

I'm married to a guy from a small town and this song perfectly described what I was feeling and it resonated with me. I'm not ready to have kids, I'm not ready to live my life in circles, whereas he is. I just love how Tove is so honest and not showing her raw emotions. She's truly saving many people who are going through similar experiences.

This song speaks to a time in my life when I was struggling alone in the world after an abusive relationship. I had to have an emergency surgery to remove a massive fibroid and during that I was diagnosed with several conditions that left me with “Pregnancy possible but not advisable. Successful pregnancy to term unlikely however would endanger the patient. High risk.”
I’ve since come to terms with it and ultimately, judging my overall health, a large number of my worst problems are hereditary, so I find comfort in my active choice of childlessness. Your worth as a person doesn’t not rest in your ability to reproduce.
It is wises to know when to spare a life and it is just as wise to know when one should not bring a new life into creation.
I would not wish my physical or mental conditions on anyone, much less a child.
I’m only figuring out my own brain, I’m not prepared to nurture a fragile new mind.
I’m trying to be genetically responsible and I know far too many people the adoption/foster system failed them. Add in the absolute insanity that is my country… I rest far easier and have no regrets in not parenting.
I get to spend time with my nieces and nephews. If I can improve even one of their lives, then I’m still helping our youth.
Better to focus on the children here before us now, rather than overlooking them for people who aren’t even in existence yet. Adoption is not an answer to this problem.
It’s encouraging needlessly adding more children to an overloaded and flawed system.
Do people really think it’s best for a child to live knowing they aren’t wanted to a point of being funneled into a system that doesn’t have enough families to adopt out more than a handful of children, and the chances of neglect and abuse in foster care is so high…
Yet, everyone has no idea what could drive a kid to shoot up a school.
Well, sorry for the tangent but yeah I have strong feelings on this topic.
