The ending! 😭I had to go back and watch it again knowing the context. Annie, having been restored by The Maker, finds herself living an existence of pain. Every bone in her mechanical body is shattered, daily, but it remains nothing compared to the heartbreak Tove imparted upon her. The colors of such pain can remain forever woven into the fabric of one's heart, even after one has tried ripping it out. Even as she attempts to gaze upon other women, Annie finds her attention redirected to the ever present numbness of her pain, habitually being repaired only so that she may endure being broken down again and again. It's no wonder she leaves to find and take back Tove, as the heart is incredibly talented at not only reminding you who is to blame for your pain, but who made you feel loved as well. It fuels a desire to be loved by the very person you want to hurt. A conundrum of feelings so intense, that it often leads one to do rash, illogical, and deceitful things. It matters not, though, because it all becomes worth it to find yourself in their embrace once more, to have their eyes lay upon you as they once did, and to know you now have the power to hurt them just as they did you. It matters not, right? Annie is different, she looks different, and moves differently. Pain has taken away the vibrancy she once lived with, and replaced it with a mask of dullness and a skin made of scars. She drugs Tove, as she knows it's the only way to wash her of the fear and confusion she's experiencing. The tab itself, is a microchip, a window into Annie's world and reality. Exactly. Walk up to the average person and ask them what songs they know by Tove Lo. After you go through the whole explanation of who she is, bc most don’t automatically know who you’re referring to when you say “Tove Lo”, the majority will say something to the effect of “Didn’t she sing that ‘Stay High’ song?” Habits isn’t even in my top 10 fav songs by her. If a song like this from this particular genre that usually does not impress me can make me obsessed, then the song and artist must be really awesome.
