@@nickykeefover6659 Yes, Percy Grainger. The arrangement is very simple but so effective. The counter melodies in the harmony are just lovely.

I like it when you can hear more of the cornet after about a minute or so and also at the crescendo. It reminds me of my childhood listening to my father,

The best arrangement of all, of the Londonderry Air; made by Percy Grainger, an Australian.
And it's such a relief to hear the glorious melody without the clawing sentimentality of the corny popular words (not original to the tune, by the way) getting in the way.
He arranged it for wordless choir. This is a very good adaptation for brass band.
    Gorgeous.

I agree with you, I've always preferred when this is played by brass. I think the ''heartfelt'' vocal cheese just doesn't compare.

Lyrics By Frederic Weatherly, a ballad, often set to the tune of Londonderry Air.
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,-
Oh Danny boy, Oh Danny Boy, I love you so!
But if you come, when all the flowers are dying,
And I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an "Avé" there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
and I will sleep in peace until you come to me!
