My wife looks over at me ( with headphones on ) and say's, are you listening to Grimesthorpe again, yes, says I, thought so, it always makes you cry. 🤔
I remember standing next to my dad. Together playing the Euphonium. 10 feet away my brother on the cornet. He passed away 20 years ago today. This one still makes me feel like I picked up a shovel. Heartbeat goes up and I feel sad those times have ended. But than again it fills my hart with joy. Thanks.
That was Awesome! Excellent performance. Message to all, if you have never watched the film 'Brassed Off' put it on your 'must see' list now. You will not regret it!!
It's my dream to hear you play in person one day. I'm in the states (Texas), so it's a lofty dream. One day! I fell in love with your band when I was studying music in college. Thank you for this
This brings me to tears every time I hear it! My heritage is Irish bit I love the Lancashire and Yorkshire heritage I also own. Keep going on you masters of brass of and wind and remember the whole nation is with you or shouldn't be o nthis scepterd isle!!
where I come from, this is the life. People work, not much going on so a lot of people play in a band. Dad started drums at 9 years old. My teen years were a joy to play with a Portuguese marching band. Every Saturday night we met and practiced. We didn't play to this caliber, but we tried our best. music to my ears. at one point, Me, dad and brother all marched together.
I spent my childhood in grime Thorpe eventually playing with the grime Thorpe colliery junior band alas not good enough to play for the senior band but this amazing film reminds me of the best upbringing I could have wished for and iam a better person for it.
As much as I sympathise with your cause, surely the environmental challenges we face today would have meant the decline/end of coal production sooner or later?
If anyone knows the score or version of the arrangement I would be very grateful. All the ones I can find for brass band don't have the Sop and Cornet duet in the middle which truly make it amazing! Thanks!
Beautiful.....question: As a brass band fan but Luddite, and judging by some of the comments, am I right in thinking the tenor horn is like the viola of the brass band? Everyone loves to take the p* out of it.
They're probably saying things about it because Pete Postlethwaite's character does in the film. It's an in-joke. 😉 If you haven't seen Brassed off you really should because it's a brilliant film. 🙂
There is a fairly ordinary 4/5 part framework that I found on Musescore you can start with. I have been expanding and adapting it - but alas the counter melodies in this video are just sublime and nowhere to be found as yet!
Pete Postlethwaite will be looking down and smiling at this..
“Message from Mr Ormondroyd, he says tenor horns too soft!” - one of my favourites beautiful

This is one of the all-time greatest arrangements ever. The low brass melody, the cornet duet. Simply incredible.

The power of music right there. There's something quite special about the sound of a brass band and this is one of the best.

I've tried this - I just want to know how you got rid of the breathing and valve clicks in such a small bedroom/study?
With an incredible ninja sound editor!

The Band is the music - the film, whist entertaining, is just fiction, remember !

Fitting tribute to the film that the Flugel is played as per the film by a female band member.
Summat in me eye.
🤗👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
the chorus lines sounds like "you raise me up", there's no doubt Londonderry air is a very old tune. that song must've been inspired by this.
Londonderry Air aka Danny Boy
Its londonderry aire
so sad, so sad.......
