Save or Scrap? Junkyard car liquidation day

- Today we walk the junkyard, and decide what cars get to stay, and what cars have to go. We only have so much space, and in order to make room for new inventory old stuff has to go! Cars that dont sell many parts, or that arent that popular are the first to go. Next we check to see what popular models have been picked clean. Once all the good stuff off of them is gone, they are marked for crushing. So, we walk the yard, mark the cars that we want gone with a large X in any color we currently have lol. Then Jamie, goes and picks them up with the loader, and carries them up to the garage. We check to see if they have catalytic converters, wheels, any leftover fluids etc. Then after check, they go over to the loading area where they sit until the shipping trucks come. You guys have a cool job. I admire your enthusiasm and attention to details in regards to the value of reusable parts and such. I get upset at first from the sight of so many cars in a scrap yard. But knowing that many parts will get sold and reused makes me feel better. Its even more cool when you manage to fix up some cars to sell. I much prefer to see that compared to seeing a car crushed.

You guys have alot more cars than I ever realized. You should consider turning just the cars section into some type of a "you-pull-it" junkyard, which allows customers to pull their own parts if they need them. I'd figure it would pull even more money in and the cars would be parted out faster that way.

You can't keep every single car that comes in. I love old cars too, and hate to see them crushed, but you'll run out of room if you don't kill off the worst-of-the-worst. If it's been there for 6 months, and nobody has even touched it, there's likely no reason to keep it.

I dunno how you handle the scrap here but in my City it's a mega huge biz these days. Mostly run by Afghans ,they buy any sort of car, they rip the engines and so on out ,and the body shells go to a big company which sends them direct to China. The engines are different story. They get a 40' container tip it on it's end and fill it with engines. They then Ship them to Dubai .They get $15,000 for a container .
Exactly the same here in Western Australia. Afghans do a lot of towing with their tilt tray trucks as well.
So they make good money
Darn should have saved the red Benz, looked to be in pretty good shape and would have been worth a fortune if parted out on ebay

I saw a junkyard that put select vehicles in an area that were like set for the crusher. and you advertise ahead of time once a month what's up for grabs. they pay $50 for all that they can carry. make some extra $ on a few items tnt they take and still get the $ for the most part when scraped. and you get more traffic . guy sells hot dogs and everything. people go crazy

Seeing the benz, red v6 le camry, ram van, and dodge caravan boxy style get marked made me sad. Good amount of parts on those and the benz and dodge caravan have decent parts that are worth $$ cus dodge caravan box's are coming back

Just seen this now and love the channel and love repairing old or new vehicles. I got few questions is the Hondas long gone and any good trucks or Hondas shell's in good condition, I don't mind little bit of rust
That silver Mitsubishi Mighty Max/Dodge Ram 50 at 3:22 is sweet. I rarely see the D50's and NEVER the Maxes on the roads in Ohio.
seeing those old XJ Cherokee's gave me an idea, find one that's completely rusted out up here, pick up one of the junk ones from down there, and transfer over the drivetrain and any other components into a new, mostly rust free body
We have valid titles and what not. That sounds like a idea. And not just jeeps, but we get alot of stuff with good rust free bodys and trashed drive trains
Jay Smart I knew A cop back in the late 80's that had A used car lot on the side. His partner had A 5 car hauler and they picked up car's in Florida and Georgia with good body's and trashed engine/tranny's. Hauled them back to Minnesota and swapped out engine's, etc. from rust buckets. They made enough money to retire early and sell the car lot! In business for around 10-12 year's.
Gary Ronan damn, I keep getting ideas to do exactly that, and the more I look into it, the better of a business it sounds like it'll become lol -like seriously, a southern running and driving XJ is now like $4K here-
Edit: forgot to mention, even saw a base Comanche from California go for $6K, and that was 2.5L with manual trans and 2WD, for 6 freaking thousand! I'd bet in California it was a $1,000 beater car lol
Yup! if I was A younger man ( I'm 65 now) I would look into it. I also knew A couple of guy's that bought up Jeep CJ's with shot drive trains and 6 banger's and changed them out for Chevy V-8's. They made A pretty good living at it for A few year's until they lost their free workshop. The one guy's old man sold his business and the space they were using was no longer available to them.

Should have tried to sell the white 2000 Chrysler Town and Country. It had new tires, alternator, battery. Ran good. A/C worked as well as the stereo. You reviewed it, and sounded like something that would give somebody dependable transportation.

Saw a couple of cars liked as 2 Lesabre's and 2 Town cars. I did see a 4Runner and few minivans looked in good shape could've been good fixer upper plus a Camry and Paseo which could been fixed as well. Oh Well guess they either got vandalized or flooded others could deal without except saw a Altima next to the Paseo guess excessive oil consumption or flooded. Looking at some cars make me sad as Mercedes Benz, Camry, Town cars, Lesabre's and few minivans that looked in good shape could been good fixer uppers get ready be scraped for parts.
In fact, it is estimated that over one million cars are crushed each year
