For those wondering, the "leaks" Im referencing were officially leaks until we already filmed the video. Marvel has confirmed the leaks at this point. I debated redoing the video, or at least the ending to go over the "leaks" but my opinion remains. Once we get more information on the topic I"ll be making a video on it specifically, because there is a whole can of worms to unpack with the reveal. But lets try and be polite and not put it in the comments. Some people want to be surprised even though Marvel themselves released an article about it 2 weeks ahead of the issue.

It’s a problem for Peter because he charities life a lot lost of any kind close or not it will eat at him and the guilt of failure will destroy him then potentially MJ through that will come back to Peter and comfort him. If I be honest, I’m tired of MJ and Peter because they constantly on and off depending on the writer or story. Leave MJ with Paul and keep Peter with Silk, Black cat, or heck even spider Gwen/ghost but I prefer original Gwen whatever. MJ can still be there for Peter but as a friend and nothing more.

I think the big issue to be had with Zeb Wells's run is how it is a complete reversal from Nick Spencer's Spider-man run. The whole point of Spencer's run was having Peter get back together with MJ and setting up a confrontation with the OMD incident. After the end of that run with Beyond and Black Cat outright telling multiple people she does not want to get back with Peter, what is the first thing that happens in the new run? MJ and Peter are somehow broken up with MJ having a family, and Black Cat starts dating Peter very early in the run. Donny Cates's Hulk had a similar issue. Immortal Hulk ends with Banner and Hulk reconciling. What does the very next issue have Banner doing? Piloting the Hulk's body like a starship because he doesn't trust the Hulk. They always say comics need to reset characters, but when it is this blatant, it feels like a betrayal of the character.

I think the difference between Batman and Spider-Man stories is that Batman writers include a beginning and end for the character so there are definitive breaks in the character. Plus marvel keeps saying that everything is more or less in continuity which doesn’t really work when with every new writer the character slightly changes without reason.

Hot take, the problem with Spider-Man is a lack of character progression. It feels like he was reset after one more day and has just been stuck in limbo since. Now there have been good arcs and stories, but Peter has never progressed. Look at the first 40ish years, he graduated high school, went to college, got a job, left college, got married, lost people, gained people and fought escalating battles. Since one more day he’s just reset every 3 years. If you don’t want him with MJ for example then that’s fine….but give him someone else, stop having him pine after her, imagine the shock if he marries someone new and has kids at least that would be progression.

The difference between Spiderman and most other heroes is that they stay relatively consistent. Superman is the infallible boyscout, Batman is edge incarnate, Ironman is troubled but is still willing to do the right thing. Spiderman just feels like he has no identity anymore. Yes, the movie and game Spiders are all different, but they are more akin to a remix song, whereas the comics one feels like a lifeless punching bag. Nothing makes him unique anymore, and they always have to find some way to "shake up" his existence. It's just annoying because this isn't Spiderman. This is a husk in his suit.

    • @celestialsoldier622
      @celestialsoldier622 Год назад +32

Yep. When I say Spider-man isn't like himself i'm talking about Spider-man from 60s to 90s and lesser extent Pre-OMD. Every time Spider-man is adapted it's someone's OC with Spider powers. The fact that Spider-verse exist and they all basically share similar Powers, jokes, Origins, Guilt/responsibility, and luck as Peter shows that Peter is nothing but an idea that can be given to anyone than an actual character.
Nothing about him is unique and defined anymore. People like Benny just accept anyone calling himself Peter as long as he has terrible luck and tells jokes and say, yep that's Spidey.
When Comic writers change characters' personalities into somewhere WE KNOW they wouldn't say and do people call it a bad run and he doesn't understand the character. To claim that you can write Peter any way and it's still Spider-man shows you're not a Spider-man fan, you're just a fan of the powers and jokes.

@Celestial Soldier Benny isn't wrong about how a character is only one in concept, but the problem is still that alot of them are set in their ways. I just think that post Parker Industry's, they've kinda just floundered the character. Also, call me crazy, but I think a universe reset is coming soon because if not, there is no way someone would be allowed to a main character less than three months before their movie because the Kamala thing is real. I just think they are doing random shit before so they can carry stuff over like DC does

Bruh somebody give me the pen. I'd get MJ and Peter Married with a child on the way in the FIRST ISSUE. Have MJ be pregnant for most of the run and then throw this BIG event where Peter is trying to make it to the hospital because MJ is in labor
Create some new villains, bring back the development of a couple old ones like Sandman, Doc Ock and Rhino aka they should ALL be good guys now
Also Peter's child is his SON Benjy that we never got to see grow up with a story centered around him. My next run would start with him at toddler age and then around the age Annie May was when Peter took on Regent in Renew Your Vows
Give Peter his Black and Red suit back to show his growth
And then maybe bave a simultaneous run of a comic called the SPIDER BROS. With Peter, Ben and Kaine and Miles can cameo. Basically a buddy cop comic like the Spider-Man/Deadpool comics where they go on wacky adventures and Peter has to hoggle being a dad.
Ben and Kaine are also just NORMAL people and have stable lives maybe they take half a side from Peter. Ben is with a science nerd and Kaine gets with someone who is similar to black cat...or maybe even Silk, think they would make a good pairing🤔🤷‍♂️
Black Cat is the God Mother of Benjy and seen as an Aunt figure so maybe she watches Benjy when both Peter and MJ are busy. She's also moved on relatively from Peter and maybe gotten with Flash Thompson since they took Betty from him for whatever reason

This is why I don't read things that make me angry, anymore. I simply don't pick it up. Gotta speak with my wallet. Spider-Man stories are the embodiment of "Well, if 1 conflict makes a story interesting, than making it all conflict must make it super interesting!"
And the sad part is, I get it. As we heard from everyone's criticism of MCU Spider-Man, people want to see Peter struggle. They don't actually want to see him succeed in life. I mean, a majority of people's favorite MCU Spider-Man movie is the one where he specifically loses it all. But there's conflict to invoke pathos, and then there's misery for misery's sake. Also, if we're gonna get parasocial about it, if you identify with Peter Parker, and just because you (Marvel Editorial or fans of the Mephisto deal) can't get a hot, supermodel girlfriend, it doesn't mean Peter shouldn't be able to. I understand that Spider-Man isn't Superman. The early comics pretty much wrote Peter that he was this close to a supervillain origin story, but he chooses to do the right thing, making him a hero. But I think everyone's lost sight of that one thing and warped it. Now he's the architect of his own downfall because that makes for juicy stories. Except it doesn't (not for me, anyway). It's like a carrot-and-stick method, but there's only stick.
I feel bad for Zeb Wells. I feel like he's just the fall guy for the big wigs who have specific agendas for Spider-Man. So, I don't blame him for what's going on. He's the one moving the pen, but those aren't his words.

Very well said. You're right on the nose with how I feel about this run. Let Spider-Man be an adult with some stability in his life. I know his struggles are relatable but this is an example of how cyclical things have been.
It's asinine how these higher ups who's job isn't to write to story are so keen on limiting the writers and forcing them to try to give people what they think they want but don't understand nuance of storytelling nor what endeared fans to these characters.
Also a thing about relatability I'd postulate that people out there could still relate to Spider-Man if he was married and had his career together. People out there do get nice girlfriends, stable and healthy relationships, and careers they're happy with. I'm still single and trying to make something of myself. I'd love to see Spider-Man get there.

In previous stories he would work to talk things out with others, its a core part of his character. I feel a better comparison fir peter is clark than bruce. Like imagine if superman was written that way, lois is in trouble and instead of explaining whats wrong to the jl he punches batman and flies away. People wouldnt read that and say "oh its an alternate take" they would say "superman would never do that" because superman has been shown to be the level headed one who accepts the help. the issue with that idea is that DC was allowed to kill new 52 superman. Because that isn't the superman most superman fans grew up with. He was the new take. Then they brought a superman that was just a full on pre-52 superman with a family. Marvel got away with killing Ultimate spider-man because it wasn't main continuity it was a different universe. The last thing the majority of Spider-Man fans want would be the original 616 Peter Parker to die. What people want is 616 peter parker to not to be screwed over. for him to have progression in his life. Not for him to be killed and replaced with an identical peter parker that has a family. because We want to see Peter form that family. Have Mayday parker, have Ben parker maybe even have Annie. However spiderman editorial has tried their hardest to prevent that from being a reality. and I doubt Renew your vows spiderman would have that happiness last long anyways.

This is why fans are saying Peter/Spider-Man is "acting out if character" and Wells is ignoring the source material.

  • @ohnosmoarlulcatz
    @ohnosmoarlulcatz Год назад +150

I would argue that they don't care about Spider-man and that's why they're letting this happen. The one thing that seems to be consistent with each story arc is that they will never let Peter be happy and that's ultimately the problem. In order for Peter to grow as a person, he needs that joy in his life. He needs to have things work out for him so that he can advance his career or his social life. But so far, he's gotten neither. Since magically divorcing Mary Jane, he's been miserable and hasn't had anything work out for him. His businesses have failed. His relationships have failed.
In my opinion, here are the things that need to be done.
Peter needs to be with MJ again. Better yet, bring back Mayday to completely undo the events of One More Day. Some people are still pissed about One More Day 15 yrs later. It would also coincide with Sinister War or whatever that story was called. Just do it rather than teasing it.
At some point, Peter should just go back to work at Oscorp or teaching at NYU. Damage Control would also be an option though. Give him a more stable job and a stable life.
Tone down the mysticism. Peter shouldn't be that involved with things like Demons and the Multiverse. I understand Spider-Verse was popular, but this shouldn't be the norm for a Spider-man storyline. He is out of his league in those events.

Hell his biggest villains are ALL Avengers Level Threats. Goblin, Venom and Doc Ock. Spiderman is always gonna be a part of the bigger marvel universe...trying to keep his street tier is ludicrous and is part of the reasoning they NEVER let him GROW even tho Stan Lee and Steve Ditko always wanted him to be MORE. He was the hero thay was SUPOOSED to GROW with his audience
He's forced into this low tier box that he's TOO BIG to be in, considering all his feats, stats and even his original character traits. Cable and 2099 have both stated that Spiderman is the GREATEST HERO of the older generation...how exactly is he supposed to become that remaining street tier? If he is street tier then he's at the very TOP of the list which is why he always on again off again when it comes to being an Avenger.
Not saying he should always be multiverse hopping cause that gets stale...but I am frankly SICK of him taking on a bunch of low tiers like vulture and the ufoes and SOMEHOW LOSING!? Even regular thugs give him trouble now and in older comics he treated them like fodder and could speed blitz like 20 of them in one page🤦‍♂️
So the solution is either Spiderman comics need to END cause multiverse threats shouldnt be the main focus and he's too big to take on small fries anymore OR we get a MASSIVE overhaul akin to what we got in the Big Time Arc and post Superior Spider-Man. Where he's still "street tier" but his villains are actual THREATS. With new Villains and Older ones moving on and having their mantles taken up

I think they’re just looking at where the character started and asking how is Peter still in these positions now. Peter isn’t in college anymore, yet it always feels like the writers go out of their way to ruin his life so he can stay in that “Everyman” mindset. Despite the fact the dudes a young genius and we already have a book that’s out right now that showed he doesn’t physically even have to be Spiderman to help the world if he didn’t want to especially when there are other spidermen around.
Parker Industries was a good idea but it was just executed badly. But look at Spiderman PS4, older Peter still a little down on his luck but he’s trying to be a scientist, he’s trying to make things work with Mj, Aunt May actually dies and it’s going to stick, but he’s okay with it he can grow from it. Miles is his student, and he can rely on Miles to the point he can take breaks every now and then instead of worrying about every little thing going on in New York. He’s not constantly punished for being Spiderman he’s growing up and trying to use his skills, which is his mind, to make his life better. It doesn’t feel forced, everything feels natural,

He's smart. Peter Parker is smart, he's a genius. So the writer should take into account Peter's intelligence.
I get that Peter is panicking and freaking out, but even then Peter should at least be able to spell out the basics of the situation to the most intelligent mind of his universe.
"Mary Jane is stuck in a dimension that moves faster than ours." That's all he needed to say. He could have said he was gone a week in the other world, and only a day or so has only passed in here.

Loved the video BUUUT there is a THIRD PROBLEM that you completely skipped past. Back in issue #22 where Peter comes back to the 616 and returns home to find Aunt May, he realizes that time in that dimension (Which I will dub Dimension W for clarity) that time moves faster that it does in the 616. Peter asks Aunt May, "no, When's the last time we talked?!" to which Aunt may replies Y-yesterday remember? You said you and MJ were going for a walk." Peter then thinks to himself "That's not possible! I was gone for a week, maybe more--"
Full stop. This establishes that Peter spent less maybe 24 hours in that other dimension and a week passed by in the 616. I'm going to be generous here because Peter says "Maybe more" and push that to two weeks. I would think you would notice the difference between one and two weeks regardless of where you were.
Peter than goes through a race against time. One day here... two weeks there. No time to talk or explain himself or anything. Got it. Then in issue #24, it is shown that he has been working with Norman to create a suit and Norman says "Neither of us have slept in days. I haven't checked my work....". Hmmm days you say? Okay. So the Fantastic Four, Captain America, AND SHIELD have been looking for Peter for days. Never mind stalker Ms. Marvel watching them build something in secret and not confronting them or telling anyone else. This is weird considering she had that whole Dark Web thing where she was reminded that Osborn was a bad guy or that she is a super hero fangirl and probably shouldn't even need to be reminded. Now assuming that by Norman saying "Days" he meant two and applying the established "one day in 616, two weeks in Dimension W" rule, MJ has been trapped there a month. However Peter feels there is no time and safety be damned. Got it. Moving on....
Now we're into issue 25. Mary Jane is rescued (yay) and Peter asks her the big question... The one that breaks the entire story... "How long was I gone?" to which Mary Jane replies "Years. Almost four".... TIME OUT! What??? For simplicity, I will round the "Almost four" to just "Four". So you're telling me if we do some reverse calculations... with "Two weeks in Dimension W, one day in 616 time" you were there for FOUR YEARS of Dimension W time, which would be OVER THREE MONTHS 616 time???? That's ridiculous. you're saying that Peter could not find time to talk to ANYONE or explain ANYTHING for THREE MONTHS? The Fantastic Four, Captain America, and SHIELD have been hunting him for THREE MONTHS and couldn't find him even though they know who he is??? And after THREE MONTHS Peter is still panicking and taking dangerous risks by not giving Norman that one or two days to perform safety checks?
This arc was dumb waaaaaay before the issue #26 leak. If One More Day is the worst Spider-Man story ever (and it is by far), this will go down as the DUMBEST Spider-Man story ever. People will be making videos on how bad this run is years from now. 'Nuff said.

I disagree with considering Spider-Man under different writers as different entities. That work fine with movies and games because they are literally separate universes with different characters and stories. However, mainline 616 comic book Spider-Man is the same guy from Amazing Fantasy #15 back in the 1960's. Past characters, stories, and ideas are always being brought back for one reason or another, so Spider-Man can't really be considered separate due to changing creative talent. Different writes have characterized and made him differently, but I believe that writing should be consistent with what has come before. That's why I personally consider this current run a bad one, since it seems very inconsistent with the character.
That's just my opinion. Imma just skip this run and see if the next writer that comes in is better.

What my fanfiction version of this storyline would have been is that Spider-Man was dealing with a mentally unstable super-powered original one-time character and was being his usual self: he was trying to help that person and despite clear red flags refused to contain or take them down, instead trying to engage and talk them down like he usually does. Then the bad guy does a Nitro blows up a school moment and that's your "What did Spider-Man do?". What did Spider-Man do? He was being Spider-Man.
So then you can have your whole business of people having split opinions about if what Spider-Man did is right or wrong, some heroes support and try to reach out to him, some consider him a "limp" and "toothless" superhero. You have interviews on the TV where people say that Spider-Man isn't a shrink so he shouldn't be playing one and should just do what heroes do and knock mentally impaired people out cold. Your Punishers and Wolverines wouldn't shut up about how Spider-Man had to knock that OC out or finish them off the moment he saw things grow out of control.
Because of the overwhelming shift in people's opinions and him being down on his luck again and always blaming himself for what happened (which puts a strain on his relationship with MJ, because she still tries loving and supporting Peter through this tough time), Spidey begins to change according to what the public pressure from some of his close friends and the people of New York want to see from him. He gets down and dirty and starts doing more street level crime, kicks the snot out of Tombstone. Maybe in the beginning he's wavering, still more quips than punches, but after a few close calls he just lets Tombstone have it.
Bit by bit, Spider-Man starts working with Norman, initially out of desperation and need, then because he genuinely begins to relate to the idea of being more Goblin--like and ruthless with his approach. Because his relationship with MJ is in shambles, Spider-Man hooks up with Black Cat and it's fine because he's hardly being Peter Parker anymore. Then, when it seems like Spider-Man couldn't be more "Not My Spider-Man" anymore, you have Norman Osborn go full Green Goblin to "save" Peter and have him kill someone. A villain or an anti-hero that absolutely could've been helped through their problems, maybe have that super-villain apply for an Oscorp job or some social grant or whatever but Norman and Peter are too obsessed with their "crusade" to clean the streets to notice and it gets lost in the shuffle of paperwork and stuck in red tape.
Then you have Spider-Man examine the path that got him here and the people he's ignored and sidelined for the sake of what felt right, what felt like the obvious and easy choice to make - to go full 90s edge and stop holding back. Because Marvel made such a big deal of the whole "60 YEARS OF SPIDER-MAN YOU GUYSE!", how about you do a storyline where you have the very foundation of what it means to be Spider-Man shaken and then have Peter remember it all over again and solidify it for at least a few more storylines and future runs? How about you tell the story that shows what kind of Spider-Man Wells's Spider-Man is by having him steer off to the side and then have to remind himself what he's all about?
That'd have gone great alongside with all the people turning to Spider-Man comics after No Way Home where Peter had a vaguely similar journey, it'd have been a nice exploration of the character's roots and foundations since it's something that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle and needs to be returned to from time to time. It would have also resulted in a return to status quo that Marvel so desperately craves of Peter being down on his luck, broke and jobless, his relationship with MJ strained and Normal Osborn as the Green Goblin for the whichever time that would make it. You'd essentially be doing a "What's wrong with just being good-old Spider-Man" for the 60 years occasion.
Most fortunately of all, we wouldn't have met and have had to deal with f@cking PAUL...

Partly because Ben Reilly was the Spider-Man I was first introduced to (yes really), but also because I’m generally not the biggest fan of turning heroes into villains. Honestly I think the best spiderman comics to read right now is Miles Morales: Spiderman. He’s going through some amazing character arcs and progression that is close to what Peter went through during his original runs of spider-man while growing as his own individual character. Marvel is doing right by miles more than Peter right now and I’m not complaining. But I do believe they need to write Peter Parker a little better.

I don't mind him becoming a billionaire, but I don't like that it happened because of Superior Spiderman. They could've had him just marry MJ. Then she gets pregnant, and Peter wants to support his family. So he starts Parker Industries. That's character progression. That's moving him up because it was Peter's decision. I'd like something more like that.
