Plot twist: That was the last shark and now they really are extinct
I hope that’s not true 😅
They ended up finding 10 more specimens too
@@intellecte8607 nice now eat them
I was thinking same thing 😂

As a fisherman I think the man that actually cought the specimen should be mentioned, it's probably a very memorable moment for him too.
if it was kept alive then yeah it would have been worth celebrating but since its dead and extremely rare its really nothing to celebrate.
Nah since he killed an endangered species
@@joeb7640 He obviously thought it was a bull shark. What you expected him to identify a shark thought to be extinct for 50 yrs. They mentioned the fishermen were more than willing to protect the shark at the end of the segment.
Yeah let’s celebrate the shark killer
Why the fuck would they mention the fisherman who was illegally fishing in a nature reserve? That is why the locals knew where the best sharks were as they've no respect for the idea of a reserve. Might as well celebrate poaching.
RIP Kevin Conroy! This video popped up and once he started talking, I was so happy to hear Batman talking about sharks.

@@TheMagicPencilG unless that's the last alive one. It's well below breeding size for the species

Finding one extinct animal is enough to put your name in the history books.. Forest was able to find MULTIPLE previously thought to be extinct animals alive and well.. His goal was to show people and scientists alike that nature is far my resilient than we give it credit for and the process we use to label an animal extinct just because we haven’t seen it in a while or only saw it once is ridiculous. He truly accomplished his mission and went further beyond his expectations and I’m sure his Grandfather would be very proud of him.
@@bluenose7984 Your time will come

To be fair other people found them but the scientific community didn't give a fuck lol but the villagers found them and pointed him in the right direction. And had dead ones with them. So it's safe to say he didn't find this one

Imagine being a shark and swimming round with your mates, you don't see Steve for a day and when he comes back he has a thing poking out of his fin and tells you about these giant pink squishy aliens things that picked you up, spoke funny, some had metal heads constantly looking at him and getting close, one of them violates him and then put you back in the water with it attached, you would think he had been on the drink
"Extinct" just means "we can't find one"
Usually "we havent seen a live one in several decades" is confirmed extinct
@@KChow-nb1pz Yeah, confirmed they can't find one lol
It's more complicated, they know where their habitat is, they try and either catch or track them, and, given a fair amount of time, if they can't find any, they're declared extinct. Most of the time they're right.
@@drakken04 Sure, I can appreciate what you're saying, but where I live we had/have a creature by the name of the Tasmanian Tiger. Scientists have said for years it's extinct, yet there have been rare sightings, including one myself, that is undoubtedly a Tasmanian Tiger. Furthermore Megalodon is also declared extinct, yet there are people, who didn't even know what a Megalodon was, who have seen one. So I rightfully respect that science looks for definitive answers on extinction, but I think in most cases, the title of Extinct, is very much debatable.
@@truevegas that's why the "if they can't find any" part. Sometimes they get lucky, most of the time they don't. The Tasmanian Tiger, it might still exist, Megalodon, I doubt it, people might have seen a really big Whale Shark, Baskin Shark, Great White or a really big Six Gill one, they can grow to really enormous sizes...
Sorry to burst your bubble, but uh.. that's not a Pondicherry Shark. Like many of his Extinct or Alive quote on quote "rediscoveries", this rediscovery was rejected by the scientific community. On closer inspection, they deduced that this was in fact, a Spot-Tail Shark, and that the Pondicherry Shark is still missing to this day.

Incredibly adaptive,goes extinct 😂
Their ability to live in salt, brackish, and fresh water is pretty adaptive but if their main food source is getting wiped out, or they are being out competed by other sharks, or are being hunted to extinction their adaptability to different aquatic environments means little.

I’m 99.9 percent sure the narrator is the voice of Batman from the classic animated series. I used to watch that show every Saturday morning. I still watch it it’s such a good show
Forrest caught the croc like it's everyday work 😲
The minute the fishermen got a few dollars and the cameras left, these guys went right back to catching and keeping any and every shark they caught, including any more specimens of Pondicherry Shark. This is a very poor place and if anyone really thinks they are not keeping any shark, including Pondicherry Sharks, they are only fooling themselves. It's a reality for extremely poor nations and people will do whatever they have to do to feed themselves and their families.
Exactly we need to educate and get these people above the poverty line before they would ever even consider that these beautiful creatures are anything other then a food source or financial source

Looks like a spot-tailed shark to many fishermen, from what I've heard, not pondicherry. And the show isn't releasing the DNA to experts, from what I've heard elsewhere. Why not share the evidence if this is such good news?
