      Yeah, when he started with Ace Ventura, I didn't expect him to be so understanding that it's a comedy, and then, Jumanji, he knew it was a fantasy. Some of them forget that it's a movie, not a documentary. The bad CGI and demonizing animals part, I agree with.

      The one thing that got me was that he’s totally wrong about wolf attacks. There have been a few hundred fatal attacks in the last 50 years. Wolves have killed tens of thousands of humans in the last thousand years alone, god only knows how many in human history.

    • @mikkj1
      @mikkj1 5 лет назад +77

      @Icarusfx
      Still, the reason that wolves were demonized wasn't because they preyed on humans, but because they preyed on our livestock. In olden times, if they killed your livestock, you had a good chance of not making it through the winter.

      Everlaasti that’s cool, Finland seems nice. He said throughout recorded history there were 3 fatal wolf attacks, which was completely false - just wanted to correct that.

    The very beginning of the Revenant bear scene wasn't included this clip but it actually starts with DeCaprio seeing some bear cubs nearby and then the next thing he knows the mother attacks him. I think that's why the expert was a little confused at first, he didn't see that part of the scene so he thought maybe the bear was attacking for food.

      I always thought that it was hilarious how the shark in Jaws 4 would be screaming and roaring because sharks don't have lungs and they don't have vocal chords. I'm not a wildlife expert and even I know that so watching the wildlife expert rip apart Jaws 4 in a critique would have been great fun.
      But I see Jaws 4 as a cheesy, ridiculous and over-the-top, horribly bad B-style movie and it's essentially, a fantasy movie. The sharks in all of the Jaws movies have been more movie monsters than animals. When you have great actors like Michael Caine openly admitting that the movie was terrible and that he only did it for the money, I would say that a roaring and screaming great white shark is the least of a movie's problems.

      Listen: a bear is a freight train wrapped in a fuzzy exterior. A snake is a scared hungry neutral thing wrapped in a "scary" exterior. If a twenty pound python gets you and you've got the least amount of people needed to handle it (any snake bigger than your average little snake needs more than one person and have a minimum of people needed to handle them) then you're probably going to be fine, they're suffocating or crushing predators that don't get that big because their prey is small. A grizzly bear can kill a MOOSE. Which is the most terrifying herbivore there is. Bears are scary man.

    • @jakester455
      @jakester455 3 года назад +122

      I like the furry freight train analogy. An adult grizzly or brown bear could probably kill any land animal save for the big ones in Africa. Awhile back Rogan talked about grizzly versus male silverback gorilla… Who would win? There are a ton of really good videos that exhaustively cover this bizarre topic, and the more you look at it, the more it becomes obvious that a gorilla has no chance against a grizzly. Grizzlies spend their lives fighting each other and tearing stuff to pieces while gorillas sit around a lot eating leaves and berries.

Comedies (unless slapstick or the like) can get away with fudging the truth much less that a scary/suspense movie. In our mind when something is threatening us it might as well be the size of a house to our body. Showing something realistic to a distant audience won't provoke that reaction as well but showing something beyond terrifying might trigger it even in an audience. Sure in real life coming across an anaconda half that size would be infinitely more terrifying than the movie... for about 20 seconds until you got away... Or I guess didn't.

    One thing I'm surprised wasn't mentioned is how the idea of alpha wolves is often misrepresented. The alpha male and female in a pack is usually just the main breeding pair, and the other wolves are their family and children. The combative dominant hierarchy style wolf packs usually occur more often in places where non-related wolves are placed in an environment together and have to form a pack that way, such as in captivity or when different wolves are relocated to the same area. Both kinds can happen, but the combative hierarchy style pack is not nearly as universal as many movies make it out to be.

    Amazing video, quick corrections though
    *There are not two but four species of anaconda.
    * The shark in Shallows is not a tiger shark but a great white.
    * Sharks don't confuse surfers for seals or sea turtles. That commonly known mistaken identity theory is not consistent.
    * Most shark attacks occur in less than 6 feet of water
    * Wolves have cause way more deaths. Just in Turkey there were 12 fatal wolf attacks in the last 10 years.

      Instant success for the villain means 1: Don't monologue. 2: No elaborate traps, just shoot the hero in the head and burn the body. 3: If you need to use the hero's loved ones as bait for a trap, make sure you kill the hero, then the loved ones. Leaving their romantic interest or children alive only makes more trouble for you later.
