As a current diesel tech, it makes my heart feel good that your freshening up the engine and making sure its completely a 100%. I personally could care less if you did the chrome and other stuff first, just glad to see your doing it. Keep up the good work man, love how its coming along.
Cory McManues sounds like you have a crush on him
@@rp5041 lmao
You're
Glad you decided to go down that track, now please save yourself some heartbreak and get the radiator out and overhauled.
Yes its a must, plus a new thermostat
Why?
@@nolanmitchell7319 you saw the condition of the water coming out of the after cooler? The radiator will look the same and let's face it spending the money now to have the Radiator reconditioned is like oil changes, WAYYYYY cheaper than an engine rebuild.
Yup best first step. Usually old motors die because of heat. Eliminate that and run forever
@@nolanmitchell7319 all kinds of nightmarish sludge builds up In radiators, rust paste aluminum oxide and even leak stop additives can build up and clog the radiator the motor wont have coolant and it'll burn up
After Watching this video i can't unsubscribe Bruce Wilson because there was lot of fun with Engine Rebulid Episode.
Get the parts chemical dipped so that way it takes all the old paint, rust, grease off and it’s left like new
Got to love keyboard cowboys. Alot put in info and have no idea what's going on. Only way to learn is to DO IT. OTJ knowledge. Keep up the good work Bruce.
See everyone Bruce is loving every min by spending time with his brother an with us too great job Bruce an Aaron
hey bruce. been watching since the first video of the cabover and still enjoying every video. keep it up. peace
Doing it right Bruce, now you will know that your cabover is solid thru and thru.
That was a sweet video, wise words on reading all the comments and taking it as constructive criticism, that's why you're blowing up..... All the viewers feel like they are one of your bros sitting around in your garage drinking beer with you while you're doing an in frame rebuild on a cab over. You brother, are a marketing genius.
Awesome job guys I can't wait to see it completed rebuilt
Neat. I love doing in frame overhauls. Can’t wait to see how she runs after.
She won't... It'll be an expensive lawn decoration after this 🤷♂️🤣 (jokes obviously, I have faith)
Matt Hill It’s always a possibility
I love your dedication to this project, its coming along nice 👍🏾
Every little you do man brings you closer to being all the way done with the truck. Thanks Bruce.
Doing a in frame on one of those i would recommend replaced the piston oilers, they get brittle and break pretty easy.
They sure do
Yup. Plastic oilers break. You lose 10 lbs of oil pressure for each cracked oiler
I still don’t know why I love these cabover videos so much
Enjoying your channel and the rebuilding of the cabover from over here in England , 👍
Ich finds super das ihr dem alten Truck wieder Leben einhaucht. 🤟🏻 weiter so.
That must be a lot of work to take the engine apart. But everything in the engine has got to be running in excellent condition 👍👍👍👌👌👌.
been watching from the start, love seeing Aaron getting his hands dirty. im sure he does more work then we see but itd be nice to see him learn and gets his hands dirty through the process. keep up the good work man
After seeing the nest in the air intake I had a feeling you were going to be doing an in frame. Dang rodents. But for sitting like she did she ran and now being refreshed. Bring on the Jake Brake.
Greg Durkee didn’t need it, nest was before the filter.
this trucks gonna be a beast when it's done
And take forever !.....filming style sucks!
Yes sir
stevenjay72 IKR
Man u got to go tru the hard part first to reach the final product
stevenjay72 try rebuilding a semi and film it than let’s see how long it takes you.
How could anybody criticize the effort being put into this. You are tackling tough job but your gaining alot of experience . 🖐
No matter what time I get home in the evening, the first thing I do is turn on the computer to watch the next episode of this truck rebuild, how sad is that.
Only sad if you didn't get nothin done during the day. Otherwise chill how you want bro.
Make yourself a tee handle to screw into the center rockerbox mount thread 7/16unc.Makes it real easy to lift the heads on and off.
16:42 “I love my viewers” lol. Keep it up. Great job!!
Full stainless manifold ported and polished with twin turbo conversion would be amazing not practical but amazing.
When you yank the rods and pistons, make sure you keep them together, number them 1 through 6 ( 1 will be the piston in front, working your way to the back of the engine) and make sure you have a way of knowing the fronts of pistons and rods ( Pistons are most times marked with an arrow denoting the front),as they will have to be re-installed in the same orientation. In fact,it would be a good idea to send those piston and rod combos to the machine shop and have them check the rods for straightness and also to check the top ends and re-bush if necessary. Hopefully your rebuild kit will come with new sleeves and,if it does, remember that when you install each one,you will have to check the protrusion on each as you install them and make sure they protrude above the block to factory spec before re-installing the heads. Make sure your pushrods are straight and in good shape. One more bit of advice: Get some 1 gallon Zip-Loc bags, put bolts in those according to where they came from and mark the bags. It could suck to go to put this thing together and be staring at a million little bolts and widgets, trying to remember where they came from.
I sure hope you are putting the hardware in plastic bags and labeling them so it makes assembly easier
You and Westen Champlin need to take a convoy roadtrip across America when yall get yalls trucks finished!
To all saying he did this build ass backwards just take second and reflect on how much of your money is in this truck!? Because thats how much say so you have a anout the order of process. Obviously the truck is old and tired, most work trucks when parked are. I like the content thats why i watch. Not to criticize. ✌
Man i'm learning so much from you about this truck. When you rebuild it back, i can only imagine what it's gonna sound like. Thanks Bruce, do your thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are correct it is the good ol boys with the coolest machine shops! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
Your doing a great job, keep up the great work and can't wait to see Buford T Justice running again!!!
Really loving this build series, really come a long way from after hours channel, a lot of your work was done off camera and it wasn't the same.
Nice video Bruce. Keep going! Can't wait to see her running on the road.
Just a suggestion, get you a Cummins head bolt stretch gauge if your not replacing them. The gauge is simple and will let you know if there in spec. I would also pull the oil cooler and at least rod it out. It's easy to do with a filler rod. I fixed a truck once that had been thru 3 shops trying to fix an overheating issue and that's what the culprit was. Good luck
Love seeing A-Ron working/learning. Let the big boy do some lifting for big Bro.
When I went to diesel school they had a international 9670 cabover. It was a setback axle coe and it had the same motor u are working on. The big part u took you took off that had rust water in it is called a water manifold.i was a good truck but the fuel filter below the water manifold always leaked fuel. Make u sure check that and replace filter . Good job so far
Now a beautiful truck soon to be a powerhouse well done boys
Great video, great music pretty relaxing, and the sound of that powered wrench once bolts have gone loosing is fantastic. Good work kids. I thought you had lost the touch for good videos. Kudos to everyone!
Nice too see that you are gonna do it right and as close to original as possible
I hope you know what you're getting into.
You can get a better exhaust manifold that will do a better job.
Don't forget to get the oil cooler off and built.
Also, you'll have to use different heads if you're going to put Jakes on it. You'll use studs instead of bolts for the boxes. Lots of things that need to be checked.
Thanks for using new music on this cabover video! The same stuff was getting old
Its great to see rebuilds still happen awesome
I'm a carpenter, and I notice that the same processes go into figuring out problems with my work as does tearing into a big, old motor. I mechanic some, but not to this extent. Nice work.
*glade you are pulling her apart! this is what i was waiting for!*
This guy is not afraid to tackle anything. Kudos.
Check block surface make sure head gasket hasn't beat the block deck surface up check block for cracks between head bolt hole and counter bore for liners certain blocks were bad about cracking also reseal 1/8 pipe plugs in the end of the heads for fuel
Once the truck is done you should get a low loader so it can haul all sorts of stuff.
That's a great idea you can make a killing moving mobile homes and oversized
Dang a turbo would look good on the shelf in my room, I plan on redecorating it with an old cars theme
And put extra torque on the center head bolts. They will probably be covered with carbon from the head lifting. I have had to use a 1 " drive impact to get several out in the past. And check the deck very closely for cracks around the bolt holes.
Your doing the right thing on that engine! You will know for sure it’s good after your done . Hell she will go way over a million miles if taken care of . So far it doesn’t look bad the way it is , except for that nasty water. I know you will put the proper coolant in her when finished! Going to your other channel!!
Thanks Bruce for the videos!!!
Jay
I love those international cab over
Well...It's about time...NOW you are in the right track !!! PLEASE do not forget the radiator AND the air compressor...NOW is the time for them also...It's your decision but that's the way...Well done Bruce
I always replace those fuel crossover screws with allen head bolts. Much easier to work with from that point on
If I remember correctly people commenting on doing things ass about learning is learning! If u don't try u never learn. I'm no expert I'm a Truckie and the things I learned was from trial and error.
Bring on the noise Bruce looking forward to hearing this thing fire up!
U have my support I'm learning more as u go along!
Good work Ol mate 👍👍😎😎🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Cool update. It's going to look sweet with new hoses on. BTW, that blue sky is magnificent! 😎🥃
Cool I Love doing in frame overhauls outside in all the dirty environment.
Ace job Bruce!👍
Word is that you are good at polishing cranks.
Just here for all the “should have done this first” comments. Lol. One step forward, 2 steps back.
Right. I commented that episides ago. Working backwards
nice truck like this should have total rebuild, good call
Make sure when you get the liners you pull the pistons and make sure the rings are offset. It’s a little extra time but I have seen it happen a few times. Nothing like getting it all together and having to take it all back apart due to a dead cylender.
Awesome job I love it I cannot wait to hear her running again after being rebuilt she’s gonna make some sweet music
It's really fun watching you do all of this. Don't listen to all of the "should have done the engine first" comments. It's your truck, do things in the order you want to! My only complaint is that you use the word "sick" way too often. There are other words out there, let's hear some creativity!
That engine is BIG son
I would highly suggest using the bag and tag method for all your bolts
too late
Wouldn't do any good he's a hack
You never uploaded on Bruce Wilson too last night like you said you would be doing! I kept checking back and nothing you got me hooked on these builds
Should be easy work with those manuals since all the specs are there! Good luck on this overhaul!
Don't matter if u get dirt in it during teardown just got to make sure you get it all cleaned out before reassembley
sped up time lapse editing while you do the wrenching FTW 👍👍👍👍👍
Do a video of your brother drinking Big Gulps and eating Chocolate Cake.
When you take on a project you do it 100%👍 who ever taught you your work ethic did a fantastic job bro👍
You know what your doing on the cummins can you build the motor can't wait to hear it run your doing a great job on the cab over looking good there bruce been watching all of your videos from day one when you first bought
If you’re planing on doing new liners make sure you get the right tolerances for deck height and pre-torque them before dropping any new pistons in or installing heads . I know it’s time consuming but it’s the right way to do it , if you don’t know what I’m saying you should ask a diesel tech to help you , and goes without saying to clean really good the inside bottom of the block where the liners seal with the engine block !! Sometimes it gets a little rusted down there and the liner seals don’t seat very good ..
i recommend looking into a 1 inch drive 3 foot long reversible socket wrench (not a ratched). They will NOT break. There are no moving parts. may have to order it online, Gedore or Hazet have them
Doing a hellava good job just glad your sticking to it
I used to do one in frame after the other on the 855 Cummins back in the 80s and 90s if you don't have bad corrosion middleway those Head bolts use them again
Not sure if you have Finish Brand Dishwasher Tablets there or not but put about 6 in your cooling system fill with plain water and it will scour up and clean the inside of the motor, take it for a drive after the rebuild and then dump the yucky water, then refill with water a few times and dump until it’s clean water then replace with coolant 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Your doing the right thing by inframing this engine.
Replace every rubber hose and clamp while your in there. You’ll be happy you did.
Coming along nicely considering you was not going to do all this work on her but in the end she will feel and run a lot better then when you first got her out of the field
The head you had on the back of the truck towards the end of the video looked like it had witness marks where the gasket fire ring had been leaking. Difficult to tell properly as the camera didn’t stay static for long enough to be able to tell but the dark staining outside of the cylinder/gasket fire ring diameter is usually signs of a blown gasket. Could have been your misfire.
Keep up the great work love how far this truck has come! I drive by an old Freightliner everyday on my way home from work and see all the things you guys do makes me want to pick up a truck of my own lol Keep up the awesome videos love watching!
American tractor youtuber: "all we got's metric"
Another good thing about being a youtuber is if you forget how u took something apart or think u have an extra bolt or hose or something u can always go back and watch the vids lol
Wished I had that kind of money. That would be fun!! If you don't go back with everything new. I'd just sandblast the parts.
Can we all just enjoy the fun not everything has to be monsters garage rebuild or the kenworth assembly factory . All the older gear heads should be just dropping knowledge not pissin on him because you had a old geyser in class riding you to torque a bolt properly .
It’s a fun project and he has enough mech experience to not look like he’s amateur hour ... if anyone got a problem drive to his house and GIVE HIM A HAND !!!!
nice to see the engine getting some love finally!
Zip Ties said he would have checked the engine before putting chrome and paint on it. Just a note.. Better check your counter bores... not just look at them.
Definitely
Worst case scenario, it needs a new motor...and I'm sure Bruce isn't stressed about it. He's making a living on this channel now (largely from this one truck), so even if something major fails, it usually means more interesting videos, more views, more $.
@@SurfGreenTelecaster you clearly have no idea how much RUclips pays ... or maybe no idea of the price for a new engine... love ignorant people
@@PaulMcClellanmn You may consider applying your 'expertise' elsewhere...maybe on more current events & youtube channels. Your points are moot with regards to this particular project...being that the truck was hacked up and under new ownership, and Bruce's channel is on mandatory hiatus. I could very well have been ignorant about his income at the time, but at least I'm not late to the party.
@@PaulMcClellanmn furthermore, you’re obviously out of touch if you think this channel grew to 500k subscribers from Bruce making sensible financial decisions. If that’s your concern, maybe Consumer Reports is more your speed. 🤷♂️
Nice dad shorts Bruce!
Hey Bruce, nice job you’re doing restoring the truck.I’ve heard that Ceramic coating the exhaust manifold is a good idea.Keeps the heat inside and the outside is cooler.Apparently you get slight power gains as well but I’m no expert.Might be worth you looking into it
A sheet of plywood cut lengthwise and laid on the tires on each side makes a great parts bench. Laying all of the heavy parts down on the ground and then picking them up again is bad for the back. 25 year diesel mechanic and I have had triple spinal fusion.
Once you tear it down unless you have a liner puller you can make your own since you can weld you just need a big threaded rod and good thick steel. Once those liners are out the most credical part of that engine inspection is the counterbores upper at top of block and lower where liner o'rings reside. These engines are notorious for bad counterbores. Lower will pitt and become worn if that truck has been without protection in coolant sytem.. Upper crack due to liner interaction with the block and if it was built without proper liner debt the top bores can crack from constant movement. Either way you will have to clean that block down low and up top on each cylider very good. Put a light down in lower to inspect for damage also top bore dont rely on daylight use light to look for wear and cracks. If those counterbores are not in perfect condition your rebuild is worthless.. It will leak either water into oil or leak water out from heads. I always use head gaskets with oversize water grommets when building to insure a sealed head for long term.. If counterbores are bad on top you can cut them in the truck to either shim them or replace . That model truck should have lower press fit liners.. Dont be surprised what you find and if block is bad shap (top deck ) and bores you may have to pull that engine do a major on it. If your not familiar with eveything get a expert to inspect that block befor you build it .. Preperation is 90% of quality build. Good luck youngblood...
Когда руки из правельного места растут красавчик
" If we went at this hardcore, we could to this rebuild in a weekend" - not if you don't organize , bag, tag and save every single nut and bolt you remove. I am going to give you guys 6 weeks to startup.
Well I haven't been into an in chassis overhaul for years now but at the old shop I worked at if we started teardown on a Monday we usually were firing it up by Friday afternoon to first thing Saturday morning, shakedown run and cutting the truck loose on that afternoon, typically 40 to 48 hours. That was either for the N-14 Cummins engines or the 60 series Detroits that were in the trucking fleet.
Gary Dee day and half
I build two 12.7 Detroit a day
Ive thought about swapping the n14 manifolds on my dads 855. Not sure if an external charge air cooler will fit. Ive had to use a 1 inch wheel impact to break headbolts loose on an E7 mack. For all those who are running their mouth, just ignore them. It's your truck. Build it your way man! Those 855 Cummins are some tough engines
Thanks for all your vids Bruce. Always enjoy what you share on both channels man :D
We have a ih 4wd tractor with a big cam Cummins that we are rebuilding right now. Ours had oil in the intake and when we took the heads off there are little pieces of rings in the pistons and one of the valves on the front cylinder was pushed up into the head.
Hey Bruce have u guys thought about wet sanding Cabover since u got ur buffer now use 1500 wet sand where ever u guys have some dirt in the paint. But depending on how much clear u put on the paint. Ur Rig going to be bad ass😎
You're going to hurt your back carrying shit that way Bruce! 🦅🇺🇸🦅
