in the studio // getting lost in the Vermona DRM1

- The DRM1 is a sonic chameleon with the fattest claps and a droney soul. So much fun to loop a simple drum pattern and set to twiddling; you can cover so much ground and it's incredibly performative. I often use it for drones because it's basically eight weird synth voices in a box.
This thing is knobby AF so I color-coded mine, grouping similar functions (e.g. decay times, timbres, pitches) together for easier fiddling.
Also featured is pic of Super Hans from "Peep Show". He is a font of musical wisdom ("big beats are best, get high all the time" and "the longer the note, the more dread") and he also helps me catalog knob settings - I take photos of settings and google's facial recognition groups them all together. Hans is the key.

love from the dark, defiantly
Just get a van. With a van, it's like you've got an MBA, but you've also got a fucking van. You're not just a man any more. You’re a man with a van. We could be men with ven
hahahaha.... I quote that line all the time, and I do, indeed, have a van :)
this really gives a sense of how "non-traditional" you can go with this instrument
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
What we really need to do is create a powerful sense of dread. The longer the note, the more dread.
Ha ha I noticed the exact same thing.
true wisdom from a musical genius
Well done! Very cool sounds and a great approach of using the machine!
why thank you!!!
well this is first time i heard someone use it like this, and its amazing... usually its "oh listen to this kick its so OUMPH".
Thank you! I tend to think of the DRM1 as a set of eight strange synth voices rather than merely a drum machine. It can do some really wild stuff.
Thats a great way to use this brilliant machine. Well done.
thank you!
this is great. already have a Perfourmer, which I love...and now Im looking at this.
It's a great instrument, deep yet immediate :)
Good to see you getting inspiration from Super Hans. I hear someone from , The Executioners Bong, used to own this exact drum machine.
hell yeah
Really interesting and inspiring stuff here. Congrats
So hypnotic!
thank you! :)
colorcoding the functions, nice idea
So cool sounds!! Inspiring dude ✨✨
Thank you 🙌
I have my eye on the DRM1, I'll be sure to keep the Super Hans trick in mind.
right on
Best drm video.
haha YUSS! many thanks!
Cool!
I like how your background hum sounds
embrace the noise :)
Various Artists
I figure it will set our career back a couple years
Way cool
great vid, would you say its capable of more organic percussice stuff?
Thanks! The DRM has a super-wide palette, so yes probably. I take "organic" to mean perhaps softer, rounder drum sounds (correct me if I'm wrong) and I'd say the DRM excels at that. The first four channels are great for that kind of stuff, which is actually my favorite.
@@UNENDINGS yes exactlyy, ok brillitannttt gunna see if i can try one of these at me local music shop :)
cool vid! where did you get the coloured knobs from please?
Those are Davies 1900H knobs. Can't remember where I got these - Thonk (UK) perhaps - but you can find them a lot of places online. Just search for Davies 1900H knobs :)
...and thanks for watching :)
@@UNENDINGS thank you sir! :)
very nice palette. are u interested in mk4 version?
Thanks! Not really; I'm sure MK4 would be lovely but I'm totally happy with MKIII !
What are you sequencing with?
I just got mine. Any tips for getting the most out of the snare?
Where did you get those knobs??
Nevermind I think I found them! On adafruit
Dude if you had more purp knobs this would sound better
Also jesus christ your color scheme for knobs in general gives me depression. O.o Its so random my OCD cant handle it!
actually, it's not random at all, but designed to aid live performance. decays are dark red, pitches are red, orange are pitch bends, yellow are attacks, green are resonances, blue are filters, white are fm/timbre/misc.
and the purple master knob adds that mojo you're referring to :)
I was gonna say.. if you own the DRM1 you can see it’s not random at all
good idea - where did you get the knobs?@@UNENDINGS
Whats it like when youre up really high?
Ah, it's incredible
@@UNENDINGS Whats it like when you're really low?
@@buskingforlife Ah, it's terrible - it's horrible.
What’s it like when you’re in the middle?
@@SquidSquad94 It’s ah… you know, it’s fine.
