Wow. I was 6 years old when this performance happened. Aretha will forever be the queen of soul. There are no contenders to the throne.

I don't know how much of a hit this song was, but I've heard her perform it a couple of times in later years. "Respect" is what really put her on the map, and a string of hits afterward. Aretha's voice was other worldly, and could make other people songs her own. But I haven't heard other singers that can tackle Aretha songs the way she did it.
