YOU are brilliant.....pulling out everything I too love so much about Christine Ebersole's GG performance...........I can't wait to watch the rest of your observations......so much to watch.....YAY!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!
love this so very much! I actually bought the grey gardens sountrack after watching this and being so impressed with Christine Ebersole! and I'm so glad I got it cause it has one of the most amazing songs ever- "another winter in a summer town".. if I could just share my own little obsession?? "my season ended a long TIME ago"... the "time" christine sings gives me chills everytime... check it out:)
Can I be your best friend? I absolutely love you and your analysis of these stunning songs. I am also obsessed with Christine Ebersole's voice. OH MY GOD. Could her control be any better? I know your love the vibrato (and she has great speed) but I think it's her select straight tones that add the real magic. Anyhow.
Seth, I just wanted to say that I absolutly LOVE you. I'm 15...I've been singing basically forever. But its only since about 3 years ago when we got Satalite radio and I started listening to your station that I really started loving Broadway. I mean, I've always loved it, but now I know a lot about it, and its actually something I appreciate and aim for rather than just something I obsess over. So thank you. and you freakin rock! =P Megan
Seth, My life is brighter knowing that someone like you is out there in the world. James is one lucky man - he better be good to you, 'cause I'm poised to steal you away! :-) BRAVO!!
You remind me so much of myself. I sit around and deconstruct EVERYTHING... You+Barbra+Shoshana+Billy Porter+Turkey Lurkey=Amazing... I can't wait to run into you in person!!!
Wow- I'm so happy I found you on You Tube. I also happen to love Around the World and I totally agree with your analysis. I saw the show four times and could listen to that song endlessly.
just finding this - i absolutely love that you pointed out almost every detail ive been OBSESSED with in how you listen the way i do and im sure we all do - ugh - this was my first broadway musical after moving to nyc and ive been OBSESSED ever since - one of my favorite moments is the scoop in “crossing” - and the harmony in “twoooo peeeeas” when they sing with no vibrato on “two” then vibrato on “peas” - didnt know how to describe the sound the cello was making on the lyrics “...you choose a few...” in “around the world” so thank you for that - a few other favorite moments “bona fiiide maaaan” - all the scoops in “drift away” - and all the little saxophone runs in “revolutionary costume” i could go on - and i would love to listen to you go on more about “grey gardens” thanks again
oh and in “another winter” all the variations of vocal techniques she uses in the duet especially from “yesterday seems more real than today..” all the way to “but not one took the party tent down” - UGH!!! the way she sings “...drawing the line...” and “a long TIIIIIME AGOOO” AAAAAH i love it!!!!! and the way she sings the last “My GOD” - and did you ask him about the addition of the harmonica in “another winter” at 2:50 if youre listening on spotify? - its almost seems out of place but works so perfectly
Please, please, please deconstruct Julia Murney's "Defying Gravity"; I heard you talking to her about how much you love her slide at the end! It's so worth a deconstruction!
You're amazing Seth!! PS Going off of what one of the posters below said, are you doing a chatterbox on March 20th? I'll be back in the city that week and would love to see one.
Seth, I think you are brilliant. Loved you in "The Ritz". I actually met you many years ago and we had lunch with a mutual friend who I can't remember in a french restaurant in Chelsea. I am looking foward to your novel. Congrats on your BF and your step-daughter. I have a question though.....What do you think of all the rock/slash pop on Broadway...I don't hate it, but I worry that traditional "Broadway" sound will disappear
I'm sorry, I had to post again, two times in a row. "A single tear falls.........plink!" It's like Will Ferrel being Robert Goulet, but delightfully Gay.
Still makes me cry these many years later. I fear this is the best performance I will EVER see on Broadway. Nothing since has come even close!
Single tear falls...or in my case, many! Ah this always destroys me, Christine Ebersole is so so incredible.
"The nicest one I lost" - devastating.
My dad went to high school with her!!! I asked him about her. He said she was a total diva, LOL.
A brilliant man obsessing over a brilliant woman!
The best deconstruction video that reveals Seth's tender hearted side. Christine + Seth = lovely. Thanks for posting.
"Single tear falls" is seriously my favorite part of this whole deconstruction
I too am obsessed with “Grey Gardens” and the incomparable Christine Ebersole ❤
"I can't do it because phlegm ... and also I don't sound like Christine Ebersole"! DEAD.
YES! I thought I recognized the opening piano accompaniment on Around the World!

"the nicest one I lost" is such a devastating lyric - I thought I was the only one that felt it like that
I think you're brilliant

My goal in life is to become good enough to have my performance deconstructed by Seth Rudetsky.
plz deconstruct her and Patti in war paint

Seth,
My life is brighter knowing that someone like you is out there in the world. James is one lucky man - he better be good to you, 'cause I'm poised to steal you away! :-) BRAVO!!

"The word mask is in the Mask"
ROFL!!!!! Hiiiilarious

and by goodness...Christine is incredible.
You remind me so much of myself. I sit around and deconstruct EVERYTHING... You+Barbra+Shoshana+Billy Porter+Turkey Lurkey=Amazing... I can't wait to run into you in person!!!
i would love if you desconstructed some altos, specifically contraltos, like judy garland, nina simone, peggy lee, etta james
Omg I love you!!!!! I agree with every obsession :) LOVE IT
I'm glad you're putting all that energy to such good use.
Wow- I'm so happy I found you on You Tube. I also happen to love Around the World and I totally agree with your analysis. I saw the show four times and could listen to that song endlessly.
This was fabulous thank you ;)
I can't deconstruct bootlegs...I'll get busted!

I agree.....excuse our musings we are like the two Edies. I love this video, you're great.
Happy Birthday Seth!! (yesterday)
"and the two bratty cousins [Jackie O. and Lee Radziwill] go nyeah nyeah"
that particular thursday I'm on the March Rosie Cruise...but, pretty much, starting Feb 28th, I'm back
i love these because they're part deconstruction, part theory...which is AWESOME.
And [lol] at the part about "wash machine"
Most of us hear "washing machine" even though the "ing" syllable is not there.
Yes! He's a HIGH tenor!
I'm not starting the Chatterbox again til Feb 28th (my b-day!)
Can you do another Grey Gardens deconstruction? Such good music!
brill
I grew up calling it a wash machine. I didn't realize that not everyone did until I heard your interview with Scott Frankel.
Please, please, please deconstruct Julia Murney's "Defying Gravity"; I heard you talking to her about how much you love her slide at the end! It's so worth a deconstruction!
Like a Masters Class in Musical Theater!
You're amazing Seth!!

It's like Will Ferrel being Robert Goulet, but delightfully Gay.
I completely understand, but please just deconstruct ANY Julia Murney song; she's phenomenal!!!
Just to be clear, are you totally obsessed?
It's so funny to watch this and realize that taking adderall and pretending to be christine ebersole is not just a "me" thing.
It would have ruined the rhythm
