One Bronson movie that's underrated and left out is "Mr. Majestyc" Which is personally one of my favorite Charles Bronson movie!
yes same with me another great bronson performance
his best film
You read my mind my friend.
Saved me some typing. Thanks.
agree
One of my all time faves of his is Mr. Majestyk, highly underrated.
I grew up seeing his movies, and I have a lot of respect for Charles Bronson. A great person no doubt.
Even the bad movies are Great ,for one simple reason...they have Charles Bronson in them...they have Greatness thrust upon them by his very presence in the movie !!
Yeah, but do you know how Bronson got his singular presence in movies, As it's said he was a coal miner as a kid and was so poor her mother made him dress her sisters clothes to go school, and other kids laugh at him, so he learn to walk, talk and behave so macho as nobody can be.
He was polish but he was hiding his surname that time holiiwood and America was scared a Poland and polish comunists ...
@@arnyarny7991 No he wasn't Polish ,he was American with Lithuanian/Russian parents.
His original name was
Charles Buchinsky!
@@borderlord correct.
Another Bronson fav is Breakheart Pass. I liked the mystery and intrigue.
I agree Hard Times was his best by far.
I visited his grave yesterday in Vermont. A very beautiful setting over looking the mountains.
Last week I found out he was buried in Vermont. Only a couple of hours away from me so I took a ride over the weekend. Jill Ireland is buried with him (cremated in a cane). No mention of her on the marker. Nice marker. Really good view of Mount Ascutney. Nothing I can find says WHY he's buried there. I wouldn't have taken the ride for a lot of people. The reason I found him, is I do a hobby called geo caching. It's not nearly as popular as it used to be, say 10-15 years ago. I was looking around and found one called Death Wish 2. It's a little box in the trunk of an Apple tree about 300 feet away next to the stone wall of the cemetery across the road from where he's buried.
@@dlewis9760 He fell in love with the area when one of his daughters took up horse riding. They bought a house and spent a lot of time there during his later years.
Я живу ни в США , а в Астрахани, но смотрел почти все фильмы с его участием. По настоящему крутой мужик и крутой актёр с неповторимой харизмой
Bronson was the real man with great charisma, action, strength and cool operator. Nobody could mess with this guy. Miss him so much
Agree with you! Miss him as well!
@Vidas Navickas Karol Buczyński. His father, was no Lihuanian, but polonized Tatar and came to USA from Druskieniki, where 100 years ago 65% inhabitants were Poles (646) and 30% Jews (294). Lithuanians only 2% (19 people). His mother Maria came also from Polish-sounding family Waliński.
Tough in real life to
That's a good list, but my personal favourite with Charles Bronson is; "Chato's Land". It's brilliant.
MsG
I'm still a White Buffalo fan for my favorite, but I agree with you on this one. They tried to chase him down and the closer they got...the more they died. Classic western movie 👍
Forgot about this one... you're right!
Great movie that hardly ever gets a mention. Don't know why>
Chato's Land was based on Lee Hoffman's novel The Valdez Horses. Aside from his epic love story From Noon Til Three, it's my next-best favorite.
That's a great movie Sir. They asked for it. He gave it to them lol
I'd have included Telfon, and intriguing premise (expanding on The Manchurian Candidate) and Bronson playing out of type as a efficient yet thoughtful KGB agent.
Yes, you put Once Upon a Time in The West at number one, that is correct. Charles Bronson was perfect in that role. A true star.
Besides, presence of Henry Fonda also enhanced Bronson's image and performance. There is hardly any doubt that Charles Bronson remains one of the greats of Hollywood. He can be easily counted among the top 25 male actors from USA.
I watched the movie twice recently it's simply one of the best films I have ever seen. Great acting, maybe a simple plot yet incredible powerful, a true gem.
Denzel Washington would be the beter choicee for that movie
I agree. He says you brought two to many. I love that
You know when it comes to the all time gunslinger it's Eastwood for sure. But when it comes to the all time badass, it's Charles Bronson hands down. Smooth soft spoken but tough talkin dialogue that explodes just like his movie.....
Hard Times. And I'll take White Buffalo for my favorite. Love his portrayal of the legendary Hickok in this movie. Mr. Majestic is a cool tight second place for me. Man this guy had so many great movies !
10 to Midnight is SO UNDERRATED...One of his best
"The White Buffalo" is an underrated film directed by Dino DeLaurentis that starred Charles Bronson, Kim Novak, Jack Warden, Slim Pickens, Will Sampson and Clint Walker.
Charles Bronson is my favorite actor. I seen every movie he was in. My favorite movies are hard times and death hunt. As good as the death wish movies were and mr majestic were I still like these the best. He had so many great movies. Charles was a no nonsense guy. He said it how it was even when he wasn’t acting in a movie. These kind of men are getting hard to find.
I've heard gals say he so ugly that he's cute. I'll put it this way, that look on him would rattle even the toughest guy thinking about giving him trouble. The guy had so many great movies that it's hard to choose a favorite. Your picks here are perfect but I'll add Red Sun and my favorite will always be White Buffalo.
He was one of the best. He made it look easy. RIP Mister Bronson, and thanks.
In my top 3 favourite actors....his sheer presence makes all his movies Brilliant to watch......an absolute Legend to me...
Still without doubt my favourite actor of ALL time. 👍👍👍
👌
He's up there. Definitely one of a kind.
Brilliant, brilliant & brilliant. Extraordinary actor, miss him not being on the screen.
You can't beat the first Death Wish movie. The reason why is it blew everyone's mind. Even Herbie Hancock's score was awesome (from 976-CREOLEMAN).
After reading through this entire comment list, I'd agree that a fifty movie list would be needed to give Charles Bronson a proper credit for his very long film career. Also that any movie featuring him is improved by his presence in it.
For those who appreciate him, see "Charles Bronson: Life Story." (Jerry Skinner Documentary)
I personally feel that hard times is his best film. It's the one that I find to be the most believable and I just love the character of Cheney. Having said that the Bronson film that I find the most entertaining is "Death Wish 4: the Crackdown." But no matter what film he was in, Bronson always brought his A-game and is one of my favorite actors of the 20th century.
One of my favorite Bronson movies also. 👍
@@TS-wh4ey yeah it's pretty awesome.
@@raymondwitter7650 most definitely that gave him the edge over the other Fighters
@@bigkmoviesandgames
The authenticity of the great depression was depicted well in this movie. And the supporting cast of James Coburn and Strother Martin as Cheney's manager and cut man just added icing on the cake. Gotta have Hard Times in any Bronson movie collection 👍
@@TS-wh4ey I completely agree it's just such a well-made and Well Done film all around. It's one of my favorite films of the '70s which is saying a lot because there were some great movies in that decade.
Bronson's greatest film was "Noon Til Three." Period! It is seldom seen and totally overlooked because it is a surrealist work of film art. It also stars his real life wire, Jill Ireland. Their movie chemistry is enhanced immeasurably from being life partners. It is arguably his best performance., being entirely removed from any stereotypes attached to him from any of his other film roles, either in USA, or Europe, and he is not playing second fiddle, unless you consider Jill Ireland's role. Bronson deferred to her in some ways for her incredible part in it. He was still the top billing name, regardless. Critics were divided on how to rate the film, which only led to its disappearance from public sight. It should be recovered and added to the growing list of Bronson's filmography readily available for ALL to see and reflect upon. It's worth viewing more than once just to decipher more of its undercurrent philosophy and metaphors. Hope somebody follows up on this so we may all catch it as many times as we like.
"Once Upon A Time In The West" should be ranked as the best western of all time. It could rank as his best role, but he was outperformed in it by Henry Fonda, playing against type of his normal heroic roles, as the nastiest villain among film villains, all time. The archetypal "Spaghetti Western." it has other great performances, one by Jason Robards, and another by Claudia Cardinale, [in the female lead role].
It's coupled with one the greatest film music soundtracks of all time [perhaps Morricone's best, or in his top 5, at very least. The formidable, well established screen harmony the "Maestro" had with Sergio Leone, whose westerns, beginning with "A Fistful of Dollars," and running through the so-called "Dollars Trilogy," altered the entire film world, and Bronson's career, also. by launching his name into the marquee stratosphere, where "A" movies and actors dwell, permanently both rightfully, and permanently. :)
Thanks. The movies in this list were not ranked based on Charles Bronson's individual performance...
I'm very happy that someone mentioned 'From Noon 'till Three' - it's really terrific and a major departure from Bronson's usual fare. In my opinion he does show a different (and welcome) dimension to his abilities. Seek it out and you won't be disappointed. The way it is totally overlooked is a real mystery.
100% agree not only my top Charles film but top overall
In the movie "Pat and Mike", Katharine Hepburn picks up Charles Bronson and tosses him upside down. No trick photography, no stunt doubles. She rocked.
I know they're not included in this list but 10 TO MIDNIGHT and BREAK HEART PASS I think should've had memorable mentions. Great movies!!
Loved him in Once Upon A Time in the West. Quick trivia, Sergio Leone's first choice for the man with no name movies was Charles Bronson. Chuck turned the part down and Eastwood became a legend. When the part for the character of Harmonica in Once a upon a time in the West was offered to Clint Eastwood, he turned it down. Sergio offered it to Charles Bronson and he jumped on it. He was not going to make that mistake again. I think Chuck would have worked out as the Man With no Name. We will never know. Charles Bronson was great in almost all the movies he made.
Bronson passed on the iconic role twice. He also turned down the role of The Man With No Name in For a Few Dollars More. By the time the GTBATU began Eastwood had firmly established the role was his. But Leone originally really wanted Bronson for that part as you stated.
I personally think Breakheart Pass should have been in the top 10. But all his movies were generally very good. Always hard to pick the best 10 of anything. I really liked the video. Thank you!
"Перевал разбитых сердец " наверно?
Heartbreak Pass was okay, his performance was good but the adaptation from book to screen was bad.
10 to midnight and Mr. Majestyk couldn’t be left out in my opinion.
mmm
Me majestyk is my favorite. When my dad showed it to me as a kid I fell in love with it. Mostly because of the chemistry between Bronson and Al literri, he is my favorite movie villain.
2 GREAT choices!!! 10 to Midnight would definitely be #1!!! A classic ending!!!
His performance as Harmonica is legendary and in my opinion the best Western movie of all time
Agree with you.
When the movie came out in 68 in France a lot of guys used to wear long coats like Jason Robards and his band. I was too yong at that time but older people told me that.
The music and the picture goe so well together in a perfect manner.
I saw this movie maybe an hundred times and i still enjoy watching it like it's the first time. It's played on tv next week and i think that i'm gonna watch it once more !
I agree with the first part as for the best Western yeah its definitely in my top 5. It's the score played a different one for each of the main 4 characters & the film score that is outstanding. As for Claudia cardinal wow what a woman I'm left breathless watching her, what screen presence she had
@@garyclarke9685 Cardinale was a bombshell back then
@@ericleroy3206 The long coats were a tribute to MY DARLING CLEMENTINE directed by John Ford. Walter Brennan and his gang wore long coats in this film.
Amanda Peet was on Letterman. Dave told her "Any movie would be better with you in it."
In my mind "Any movie would be better with Bronson in it."
My son and I have spent many hours watching "Charlie B". Thanks for the memories.
The list is mostly good. However Mr. Majestyk and Breakout should have been on it.
"The Evil That Men Do" and "The Mechanic" were his two best movies. All of the others were great too - some more recent ones that were left off are 10 To Midnight, Murphy's Law, Assassination, and Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects.
When I think "Bronson Movie", I don't really think of the movies where he had a supporting role. So, as good as they are, I don't count films like The Dirty Dozen (more of a Lee Marvin film IMO), The Magnificent Seven (more of a Yul Brenner film IMO), and The Great Escape (more of a Steve McQueen film IMO) as Bronson films. No Chato's Land or Mr. Majestyk? *EDIT* I can't believe that I forgot to mention 10 to Midnight! That should be on any Bronson list!
10 To Midnight is such a sleazy film, and the ending is brilliant.
Bb bb
That’s a good point.
The Mechanic wasn’t a great film, but Bronson was absolutely perfect as Arthur Bishop. It’s my favorite of the films of his I’ve seen. I can’t imagine anyone else matching his performance in the role.
Definitely my favorite Charles Bronson movie as well.
good point
I also like Jan M Vincent as his apprentice. Also an Airwolf fan. I miss Bronson …they don’t make ‘em like that no mo
Many folks can argue about which film deserved to be where in the list . But as for me , I am just glad that I own all of the films in the top five of this list. And a few others from this great Actor. There is no actor breathing air today who is as tough as this guy was in real life. He definitely inspired me to be stronger than I was.
He wasn't tough in real life. Neither was John Wayne and Steve McQueen. Robert Mitchum was one of few stars who was actually tough in real life. Ditto for Audie Murphy and perhaps Rory Calhoun.
@@philiphatfield5666 I agree about big pussy John Wayne. But Bronson was a decorated aircraft bomber during ww2 . The man won a purple heart.
@@philiphatfield5666 I agree about big pussy John Wayne. But Bronson was a decorated aircraft bomber during ww2 . The man won a purple heart.
my ex gf’s 86 y/o gma loved Charles Bronson movies. We spent a lot of time together talking smack on politicians and she turned me on to Chalres Bronson movies. We also watched a lot of western movies.
Today I learned that Bronson is a ww2 veteran and served as a forward gunner on bomber planes. He flew on over 25 missions and earned a Purple Heart when his plane got riddled with anti aircraft fire.
Not to mention that Death Wish was released the same year that The Punisher debuted in Marvel. Its like fate or destiny, a movie about embracing the vigilante lifestyle in turn gave birth to one of the most memorable vigilantes in comic book history. 💀
1974 yielded death wish, punisher, wolverine, ghost rider, foolkiller...year of the vigilante.
1. Hard Times - 2. Death Wish - 3. Mr. Majestyk - 4. 10 To Midnight - 5. The Mechanic .
Death Hunt is my personal favorite. Bronson and Lee Marvin were good together.
Yeah me too. Lucky enough to find the DVD
They were both in the services in World War 2, Bronson in the air force and Marvin in the Marines.
Sad that Ed Lauter has passed on, he could've told some Bronson stories having worked together four times.
I also love Violent city , Rider on the rain , Chato’s land ,10 till midnight, Murphy’s law, White Buffalo.
In "Death Wish" you forgot to mention how Bronson's Paul Kersey begins as a bleeding-heart liberal,
concerned more with the criminal element than the victim. Sort of like parallel with today's times. Only
today is even worse. Anyway, I remember this as being the few films I've ever seen, in the theaters, where
the audience gave it a standing ovation. Personally, I found the film inspirational.
A REAL SUPER GREAT ACTOR AND UNDERRATED ONE AT BEST
CHARLES BRONSON: ICON ❤️☝️👍
So many great films with Charles Bronson! I would add "Chato's Land" and "Mr. Majestyk" to the list (and probably remove "Death Hunt" and "This Property is Condemned").
😮
Bronson's ancestors are the Lipkowski Tatars, that is Tatars who, after the Mongol invasion, settled within the borders of the Republic of Poland and fought for it. Warrior's blood.
Who could have guessed the guy who did nothing but grunt in 1953s house of wax would become such a great star!
For a real treat check out Mister Bronson in his tv series " Man with a Camera"
Underrated good stuff, fans definitely seek it out.
I must say, I like "Breakheart Pass" and "Telefon"
Two of the very best, yes.
I love Red Sun, Death Hunt, Chato's Land and also Breakheart Pass. Of course this choice is super great and yes his best movie in which he was a protagonist is Once Upon a Time in the West, however Magnificent 7, Dirty Dozen and Great Escape are higher quality movies , but he was not the main protagonist in them.
My favorite Bronson movie was "The Mechanic." Although it was a box office failure, it was a huge hit in Malta (1977?).
The recent remake with Jason Statham was a huge disappointment.
I miss Charles Bronson such a bad ass.
Incredible man! Great Bronson!
I've seen so many charles bronson movies and some how I have still not watched some of these mentioned in the video. Bronson was a true legend.
Perfect list! He was, in a word, "majestic."👍
Great movies.I would've included Breakout, Breakheart Pass and the Stone Killer
Death Wish 3 is one of the best action movies ever. So satisfying to watch Bronson taking out loads of little scroats that fully deserve it. Great one liners, an explosive ending, an antagonist you just want to rip the head off of and a soundtrack by Jimmy Paige. Stands up with the best of action movies.
Love this list one maybe two changes at most for me . Job well done
Not bad list, but I would include "The White Buffalo", "Breakheart Pass" in those Bronson did an amazing performance, and "Death Wish 3" which is one of his most iconic movie classics and also an awesome performance.
Regarder Chicanos 1980 avec
Charles Bronson et transposer le avec ce qui se passe actuellement en Ukraine...je vous laisse méditer là dessus
Death Wish 3 was AWESOME!!! Great fun!!!
White Buffalo is my favorite
I Would've included Chato's Land at Least #5 or better! Borderline is one of his finest also; just my opinion!
Bronson is my favorite of all time. Number 2 is Gregory Peck. We mis you Mr Majestic.
The "Battle of the Bulge" should be on the list.
Well done.
Great list.
Thanks :)
I am a huge Charles Bronson fan and so old I have seen every film on your list in the theatres except for Death Hunt (don't know how that happened) and many not on your list. Once Upon A Time in the West is my all time favorite western and may have started my obsession with Bronson films. Other films that aren't as well known are Rider on the Rain, Violent City, You Can't Win Em All (with Tony Curtis), Telefon, St. Ives, The Stone Killer, Breakhart Pass and Breakout. Little known is that, suprisingly, Charles Bronson was an extremely devoted family man and would choose projects later in life that allowed him more time with them, bypassing productions that might have furthered his career. I caught any film I knew he was in.
At some later point, after Jill died, I caught part of a film that he made on TV that was a Christmas story, but don't remember the content or theme, only that he was narrating. Anybody here ever see or hear anything about that? Decades ago.
Was It "Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus" 1991?@@rlbhartmann6902
Loved "The Mechanic" I'm sure it had a pretty small budget, but it had interesting character development and storyline
I lived in an apartment overlooking Ponsettia Park in West Hollywood when I was young and could see some of the filming that was done there on the handball court.
@@johnc2438 thanks for the recollection, John
Kung ganito po sana ang lahat ng Cowboy movies? Hindi pagsasawaang panoorin. Napaka ganda buhay n buhay po talaga mga action nila
Jun Agustin. God bless U po
Chato's Land, Hard Times, White Buffalo, Once Upon A Time in the West - great movies all and Bronsons best in no particular order
Death Wish 3 is the funniest. "They got the giggler!"
I'm biased. I tried to become Bronson, mannerisms, skills, personality, etc. In my mind the considered least of Bronson movies are greater than some of those considered the best of some others.
He is such an icon he just still seems alive
Charles and Steve McQueen will definitely be remembered as great action movie stars . R.ip. to both of them.
All the Death Wish series and 10 to Midnight are my Bronson favourites.
i saw only Death Wish 12.are another series good?
The problem with so many of these "top ten" lists, is that so many of these performers have produced so many good works, that it should be the "top 30, 40, or maybe even 50".
And Bronson would head that list.
My daughter's 2 favorites starred together in Mr. Deeds. So that's her all time favorite movie. And critics turkeyed it.
Bottom line: the great Clint's two biggest box office hits with Clyde, were the critics worst of his.
Bronson is like that.
One critic said after "Evil men do."
For Bronson fans only.
Another critic said of that movie
"Bronson finally made a good movie."
I'm not a horror fan but the concept I love: King is on a talk show and says early critics hated him, but now critics grew up with him and love him.
Finally from John Wayne who said "James Garner is the greatest actor."
Both Wayne and Garner charisma was so amazing they made movies for them.
Always enjoyed the Mechanic!!! Will always make time to watch the Great Escape and The Dirty Dozen!!!
My 4 favorite movies are The Mechanic...... Dirty Dozen....... Magnificent 7 and Death Wish , but great list
This is right on for Once Upon a Time in the West is his greatest role. Well done!
Charles Bronson brought back masculinity in movies with his stoic acting and charismatic character during 1970.s and 1980s.
Rider on the Rain missing. No guns, no bare chests, Bronson teams up with the delightful Marlene Joubert and demonstrates he can really act.
Excellent list with, one major omission..."Chato's Land" directed by Michael Winner( like The Mechanic and Deathwish)!
Dino DeLaurentis interviewed Streep early and in Italian asked his son why he couldn't get a girl who was good looking.
Meryl majored in Italian and answered him in perfect Italian "You don't like ugly. I can also do beautiful." He about fell off his chair a blonde speaking Italian.
I like Bronson movies and I always have, between him and Clint Eastwood, I was highly entertained in the the 1970’s and 1980’s.
They'd made a cool team in a movie, too bad that never happened.
Great video.
I would also include 1970's Cold Sweat
Thanks for the suggestion 👍🏻
Agree 👍
It's good Bronson fun, it's underrated for sure.
Chato’s Land should also have been included.
Agree.
In my eyes Bronson's in the same category as John Wayne.
great list I would also add murphys law and 10 to midnight
Really liked Breakhart Pass, Rider on the Rain and Raid on Entebbe.
Personal favorites most may not agree with are Chino and The White Buffalo.
I remember seeing Telefon over 30 years ago and really liking it. I wonder if it holds up? I can’t find it anywhere.
It's on DVD and a pretty good movie, a big hit overseas at the time maybe his last big international cinema success.
@@LarryFleetwood8675 thanks for the information. I’ll look for it
All great films..."The Dirty Dozen", "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Great Escape" though, are not only Charlie Bronson' s movies. There' s a bunch of actors that share filming time, some equally, some less...I would add, instead of them, "St. Ives", "Mr. Majestyk", and "Chato' s Land" or "The Stone Killer" and "Break Out"...
What about his movie “The Evil That Men Do”?
Yes. I agree with your list.
Magnificent Seven and Once Upon a Time in the West are the best in my eyes.
One of my favourite Bronson lines was: "Why don't you take a high dive in a low well?"
What about "From Noon Till Three"? I think it was Bronson's best movie ever..!
See my more recent comment addition for more on "Noon Til Three.'"
That was the first movie of his that I ever saw, and the tune alone still rings in my memory. Jill Ireland was superb but the crowning moment came at the end when Charles opened the door and a small group of people stood up and asked "Graham Dorsey?" His face lit up like a 100-watt bulb. "Why yes." One of the group said, "We've been waiting for you." That was the perfect ending to match that tense opening scene when he and his riders hove into view and he said "It's too damn quiet."
Mr. Majestyk and The Valachi Papers deserved appear is this list.
Yeah, Valachi papers, actually prefer that to some of these more critically praised Mafia films.
Permission to offer up some feedback, In Bronson's own words one of the movies he was most proud of was Mr. Majestyk. It's either number one or two with Death Wish ! We may need to move a couple of your choices off the list to make room for Breakheart Pass and Cold sweat. Chato's land should get an honorable mention as well.
I like the fact that part of the original Death Wish movie was filmed here in Tucson
Since I like 9 through 1, I need to see Red Sun to complete this list. These are wonderful picks although I would place The Mechanic higher and OUATITW a bit lower.
Once Upon A Time In The West #1...Yeap...The Great Escape #2...Yeap...But my favorite one is Death Hunt...
"Le passager de la pluie" the nuts scene is so touching !
Bronson's best role Hard Times #2 Great Escape and #3 Death Wish
I've just watched once upon a time in the west it's really good movie.and soundtrack smooth...
Great list for an iconic actor
