  • Today I start modifying the new DuroMax 440 18hp engine preparing for the stage 1 carb kit and header pipe. Then I start to try the fitment of the engine and 40 series CVT on the cart. Many new parts arriving this weekend!

    Stay tuned! I just got a couple shipments from Go Power Sports and visited the local steel shop... LED lights, new shocks, Steel for the seat and motor mount, all sorts of upgrades to do!

    I'm trying to decide if I should just open the engine and remove all of the governor parts while it's out on the bench, I don't suppose I'll want them in the future!

    Great video! I couldn’t help but subscribe, by any chance have you removed the governor and do you have a video of how you did it?

    What is the little black box under the valve cover with the hoses connected to it do you know? It's different from the Honda clones I've heard it's in the way of a torque converter for the 7 HP one but it seems like the same thing. An oil reservoir I think you said?

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  2 года назад

      Yeah, some kind of pollution filter to catch oil and gas fumes… like the carbon canister on newer cars….not necessary to run well.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@nullfox955 it was a couple years ago so I don’t recall exactly where all the hoses went… I believe back to the air cleaner, which I replaced with a Go Powersports jet and air cleaner kit so all of it was bypassed

    Do you have a parts list by chance? Specifically the torque converter, exhaust etc? Needing to fix my sons silver fox go kart. Rather go ahead and make it a project vs just buying a new gokart.

      The engine came directly from Duromax using a discount code from Red Beard’s garage, the rest came from Go power sports, a 40 series torque converter, 420 chain... just call and ask them what works on whatever engine you’re using

    will these parts work on the DuroMax 420 16hp?

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  3 года назад +2

      the Duromax shown here is a 440 18hp... I believe it is very similar to a Preditor 420, but I cannot guarantee that, however I did use the Go Power Sports 420 jet upgrade and air cleaner and it fits right

    Hey anyone know where I can get the stock rod bearings for the Duromax 440cc 18HP? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  2 года назад

      Try Go Power Sports, I’ve heard the 440 Duromax is the same as the Predator 420 so the parts may be interchangeable

      @@bobsbarnworkshop Thanks for the reply. From what ive seen and replies ive gotten it seems that this motor is not supposed to have rod bearings. But i opened my Duromax XP18HPE today to find that mine has rod bearings for some reason. On the back of the bearing is says 20 09' B SIKD 0.001 If you have a sec can you take a peek at these pics of the bearing? drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-8I7_db3Hu2mqaZwQUoo6ZahlM7tVhrk?usp=sharing

      @@bobsbarnworkshop Yes I took a look and the rod bearing they have doesnt seem to match mine. From what I understand this is a GX390 clone. But GX390 has no rod bearings.

    How much did it cost to do this?

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  2 года назад

      Back when I bought the engine it was just over $300 because there was a discount code from Red Beard's Garage! The carb kit and header was purchased from Go Powersports, not expensive...

      @@bobsbarnworkshop I thought red beards garage had something with duromax engines. I've actually learned how to do a stage 4 rebuild from them. I'm thinking about doing one on my Murray Explorer.

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  2 года назад

      @@ThatRusticS10 right now I don't plan on any performance upgrades. The advantage of using the original flywheel is the alternator. I know it's only about 1.5 amps, but that's enough to top off the battery after a start. an extra coil can be added to increase it to 3 amps....
      My lights are LED and don't draw much current either.

    How do you mount the engine

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  4 года назад +1

      In a future video I do show how I reinforced the motor mount and carrier and bolt it on with 3/8" grade 8 bolts. I put it all in a playlist to make it easy to find!

    • @bobsbarnworkshop
      @bobsbarnworkshop  3 года назад

      I bought an engine mount from go power sports, did a lot of mock up and alignment tests, then welded it in. Check out my playlist building this cart on my channel, it’s all in there! Thanks for watching!!!
