Can't thank you enough for this treasure. You didn't just do a quick demo - you repeated the process from start to finish, over and over again, on several tires in real time. I studied and applied your technique and soon had all my tires changed. Never would have learned it without your example. This is a life-skill I will pass on to my sons.
Scott Canfield No! Don't pass this on it is terrible. Do not use square tools on wheels and tires. You can damage the bead of the tire to the point that it could kill you! If you want to kill your sons teach them this technique.
Nice video, thanks for taking the time to show us how it done without special tools, for the complainers I say if you have a better way go ahead and make a video so we can learn even more.
Just did this for myself for the first time today with this video. It took me about 3 hours to do the whole job but it didn't cost me anything except buying a Harbor Freight tire balancer. Thanks for the video.
i watched this again and again , and he's still amazing, average person cannot image how difficult this would be without specific video instructions ... a difficult but worth it path to FREEDOM (!)/(?) ... Cheers man!
Thanks for making this video! I have watched tons of "how to" videos on changing tires manually (by hand), and this is the quickest, easiest method I have seen. Two long screw drivers and a short sledge (once you break it away from the rim)... PERFECT! I appreciate that buddy! I subscribed! We need more guys like you on here, that get right to the point and clear about method. Simple to watch.
Mark Ewing Dont use a screw driver it can damage the bead of the tire to the point that it can explode. Go to your local store and buy some tire levers. And a rubber ended tire mallet. The right tools for the job mean the job is done right. This guy is a butcher!
Great Video. You are the Best that I have ever seen! I tried to do my tires today....and get this....it took me all Frigging day, to just get 4 tires off of 4 wheels.....Yup 5 or 6 F..king HOURS!??!. Mind you, I didn't have proper tire tools to use.....just small screw drivers and way to THICK of a Crow Bar Breaking the bead was a piece of cake.....getting the tire off of the wheel, was just HELL to do. I could eventually peel the tire off of the rim, but I could not get the Tire Off the Frigging Wheel, where as you did it sooooo easily. When someone is an Expert in doing anything, they can make it look so easy to do. For me, it was a Living Nightmare to do. Thanks again. You are the best.
OMG ! You make this look so easy! I just did one tire on my truck and it took me about 2.5 hrs. I was so tired after I said screw this and am going to attempt the other tire tomorrow but I’m going to try your way. I just struggled to get the tire back on the rim and you made it look so easy lol
Nice job. I did truck tires with truck tire irons.. but there are a few specific things I forgot about when doing car tires that your video brought back to memory. Car tires are tighter.. and that last step can be confusing to remember when you dismount the tire completly while using the pry bar to pull the rubber over and hold it in that specific position and then hitting it in the specific spots on the sidewall with the hammer with a few blows and the rim just pops the rim out nicely.. (dont hit the inside lip of the rim) I remember that I did that once on that last step while prying and trying to drive a tire off of a rim with a hammer.. oops. Fortunately the bead still sealed. Next time I'm using a dead blow plastic coated hammer.
YES! I could always get the first edge over the rim while fighting the second one and end up with bruises. Your hammer "trick" worked much easier. Thank you for taking the time to create this. You have helped a lot of people and probably prevented some injuries. Excellent! Just simple tools that don't take much space to store. I found a lever powered bead breaker at a garage sale which as worked when the 'jack on bead' which you don't here demonstrate here would not.
I was saving the $15 a tire I would have paid to have someone else change the tires out for me. This doesn't include the price of the tires nor does it account for the several times in my life I may change the tires. 6 years I was a single divorced mother of three young boys every penny saved was vital!
I wish I knew where I could get a pole like you had for breaking that seal and I couldn't see if you were hitting it with something or what I'd do them by hand also but watching you do it has added some more styles to my ways of doing it thanks for showing me
THIS IS THAT GOOD THAT theres nothing better on TV and im back watching it because this is a skill i must master... thanks the dudes an absolute tire technique master WICKEDDD
You go t65man! I've changed many tires that way. Now days however, people have got lazy. They would pay someone $15-$20 each, or more to change a tire, rather than work 5-10 minutes and change it themselves.
Good way to do it with basic tools most people already have. Involves a little extra elbow grease. Wonder if any of the tire beads were damaged, using the metal tools to pry the tires off and then on the wheel.
I am not going to be a critic as he did a relatively good job at changing the tires. I will point out a few things though. First of all there needs to be some kind of soapy water or rubber lubricant used to help assist in the mounting and dismounting of the tires. Second it is not a good idea to use screwdrivers to mount and dismount tires because they can damage the bead area of the tire, making the tire unusable do to bead damage. There is special tire bars specific for the mounting and dismounting the different tires used on all vehicles. I noticed that the rims still had the old wheel weights left on the rims. These tires need to be balanced to get maximum mileage. What you save in changing the tires you lose in excessive tire wear due to unbalanced tires. The last thing is that it is always better to replace the valve stems in the wheels. His demonstration was good and he explained the steps very well.
t65man when things go wrong and disaster strikes (global warming, terrorists, war idiots) and I have one hope at getting out alive...and if that hope is your 500 dollar car or 50 thousand dollar car, you will wish you had paid more attention to this video! This video is a treasure and this man is as smart as he is generous...how many people take the time to share anything like this? I think all who post negative dont have the skills to do this or live in a dream world where you can always just pay the tire guy to do it !!! Probably the most educational video I have ever seen. When SHTF and I need to change a blownout tire ...t65man I cant thank you enough...this guy gets shit done!
anyone trying to do this at home make sure you lube up the bead of the tire when dismounting and mounting new tire I noticed that he didn't also us some sand paper or if real nasty a wire brush to clean bead surface on the wheel cleaning the wheel will help prevent future bead leaks and the soapy water (lube) will not only help with the mounting and dismounting of the tires but also will help greatly with beading the tire. soapy water also prevents bead from tearing. also make sure when you do this or use air tools in general to wear safety glasses. I can speak on this manner given much experience.
Well J.P., If you have any common sense at all, you'll know, as you do, anything on youtue should be taken lightly. This guy is just showing the BASIC idea. Anyone that has the ability to to do this in the first place, KNOWS you wouldn't use the rudimentary tools this dude is working with. He did it in 20min., he said NOTHING to the effect that the rims would be gouge free, or even hold air. PEACE
With some tires you're able to damn near walk the tire on the rim and with other tires you're fighting for your life to get em on. When it comes to regular passenger cars it all depends on the size of your sidewall
Tires just do not jump over the raised 'hump' in the rim just like that, as Patrick pointed out. Others suggest using the weight of a car, or a long lever arm against a piece of wood, or just working it a little bit at a time with zero steel tools contacting the alloy rim, and some soapy water. An oddball size issue? 15" tires on 14.5" rims?
You surely make it look simple.BTW why you didn't change the stems that usually seems to be the other site of major problem and failure, when worn out on old tires? Also how easy/difficult is to change the stems?
it is the best way to disinstall/install a tire on a rim and keep control on the operation, inexpensive and efficient way to change a car tire a bit of lube help greatly avoiding tears and promoting better seating of the tire on the rim
On the last wheel, @ 3:51 you can see rim material flying off as he strikes it. No thanks. If you don't mind damaging your wheels, by all means, go ahead.
No, you can do this w/o fknup the rims if you take your time, dun it plentee-o-times with NO scratches, No leaks. Took a helluva lot longer than 20 minutes though!!!
MrManMuff Yeah, that's what I'm sayin, if you take your time,"be cool' about doin what you're doin and use the right tool for the job, it can be done without fukin shit up. If it takes 20min, yer OBLIVIOUSLY gonna have a turd as the final result.
rts It wasn't " rim material" it was corrosion around the bead. If you look at the tire at about the 9 minute mark you can see white flakey stuff on the bead.
Scotty MSU you cant. you can only mount and dismount at home. for a balance you need a machine for a proper balance. this is a good thing to know if you got a flat, and a spare, without a spare rim.
Great demo, thank you, but I can not break the bead on my quad tires. Any suggestions or any tools. What is that bead breaker you use. Is it home made ? Thank you
Very impressive. Fastest DIY tire changing vid I've seen so far. You're the first I've seen to use that slide hammer pole thing to break the bead. Where can I get that tool? Seems a lot faster than driving up a 4x4 or using a jack. You're also the first I've seen that didn't need to use any lube.
You're never going to do that so easy in a 50c or 60c degree outside temperature. it's a fact. Northern Virginia in November or December forget about it. planing to do it in summer time.
Spray glass cleaner or some really diluted dish soap on the beads before prying them off the wheel, and before mounting back on to the wheel, SO much easier, same thing the tire shops do but they use a bead lubricant/sealer. It's pretty impressive what you can accomplish with some basic hand tools and your skills. Thanks for sharing this!
I learned a lot this evening...you are the man...Thanks!!!
Your a doctor on them tires you are the best I seen keep up the good work.
I am so grateful for you demonstration. I unmounted my tires with a swing of a hammer

Ashley Neal 15$. All the places I rang up in Australia wanted to charge me $50 a tire and I’ve have 5 to change

It’s basically a long pole with a weighted slider. U slam the slider straight down to create a force to break the bead

you can use the hammer to put it back too both side .
Only thing I'd change is unmount from the back side, that way you will never damage the face of the rim.
Good on you great job
Amazing! Thank you.

What happens if you don't take the valve core out?
nothing, just let the air out
