I think everyone else has already said this. But it's best to only collect things that genuine interest you, that you have a will to play, and just forget about everything else. That means not only knowing when to avoid games that are cheap, filler, sports, uninteresting, etc, but also games that are rare, expensive, heavily sought after too... just because everyone has those games, doesn't mean that it's mandatory to own them and feel the exact same way about them. A collection should represent your taste, even above the broader consensus of what "quality" is, or isn't.
+EagDesert Very well said!
EagDesert. Words of wisdom sir. 100% correct.
That was deep 🤙
I Sold my Entire Collecting History before I found you tube but in September I decided to get back into the Games... Chose to get started into Xbox 360 Only and going after game genres I Enjoy.. So its gonna be Horror/Zombie/RPG and Favorites Only.. Enjoyed your Video and appreciate the Inspiration to do this again..
You make a lot of sence and agree with the quality over quantity idea. I have over 400 games right now including games I would never play. For me the hunt for the games is the high its not seeing them on my shelf. Time to down grade a little.
+regul8r Thanks for watching!
Downsized a bit as well recently.
When we started packing for the move, I started selling off doubles, just so I didnt need a million boxes and it started to pay off bills. Ive had a good yard sale season and the stuff I traded in knocked out a phone bill as well. Ill probably weed through my stuff one more time before October.
+Loch SNES monster Ah good for you bud! Yeah I know I'll end up getting rid of more and more as time goes on - baby steps =)
Really liked this video! I started like you buying everything I could even if I was not interested in playing it just for the sake of collecting. Right now I just get games I would love to have and play at some point, I restricted myself to buy only playstation games (ps1,2,3 and 4, psp and psvita) so I do not buy other brands, it could be really expensive. Other thing I did was to create a wishlist and stick to it, I won't be buying more than it is there, obviously current console (vita and ps4) are not taken into account since I don't keep a wishlist.
My only problem is that I am going for a complete psvita collection, is the one console that I play the most and I love having and playing every game for it (fortunately I love Japanese games)
+vitacollector PS Yeah it's my love for Sony that made me want to collect every single PS1/PS2 game out there but aye aye aye.... I will always be a die hard Sony fanboy XD As much love as I have for Nintendo, I put soooo so many more hours into Sony than I ever did any other systems combined!
I really need to work on my PSP and Vita collections. There are so many great games, RPGs in particular, that I would love to have.
Thanks for watching!!
Downsizes his collection. More video games than the eye can see behind him.
I've gotten rid of a ton more since then
I can completely relate to everything you said. Best of luck down sizing. Getting rid of games is so hard!!
I went through the game collection mentality for a few years. Now, I only keep what I actually want to play. My collection is now 1/5 its original size.
lol you still have too many games. looks like you have a few thousand still in your possession.
Love this video. Wish I had watched this before I went through my collecting burst - I would have saved a ton of money and avoided a lot of stress. I too am now downsizing for reasons similar to yours.
Collect what genre you like to play and keep it cheap! Thats what I do! My collection is 500 games between me and my wife.
I used to obsessively and indiscriminately collect survival horror games on the older systems like PS1, PS2 and GameCube. Especially on PlayStation, there is an overwhelming amount in that genre and I spent so much money and time on games I just didn’t enjoy (Echo night and clock tower are big examples). But now I have a more curated collection that I’m proud of and that I adore too! The Silent Hill games, Rule of Rose, Haunting Ground, Kuon, Resident Evil games, etc etc. Those are my prized possessions and the games I always go back to, and funny enough, those are the games I got the best deals on too. I realize that you don’t have to own everything to be an enthusiast or collector of a particular thing you love.
I just started collecting, but yeah I completely agree.
I really don't get collecting random games you are never gonna play, I'm gonna stick with 20-40 of my favorite games per console for a manageable library under 300 games.
I went through and picked out a lot of my game collection to sell today. It was just taking up too much space for how much time I actually spend playing them. I'm trying to keep the total number of console games I own down to 100, although I'm only counting collections(like the zelda gamecube collection) as one. It was pretty tough getting rid of some.
I hear you. I've gotten rid of a TON more stuff since this video. The game room is almost unrecognizable now =\ but it feels good getting rid of clutter and paying off debt!
Thanks for watching and the comment =)
Oh, I'm in the same boat. My collection currently consists of NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, PS1, 2 and 3, Intellivision, Atari, Gameboy, DS, Genesis and Xbox. I started mainly with N64, PS2 and NES. Then I started finding games for really cheap when I started hitting yardsales this past spring. One thing leads to another....I swore I would never get an original Xbox, then I find an xbox system for $5 at a rummage sale. Next thing you know I'm picking up cheap XBox games. My problem is this (well, multiple problems): I enjoy the hunt..that's one of my favorite parts. I love going to garage sales and thrift shops and finding games. I always intend to flip a bunch of it get money for games I really want, but selling all this stuff takes time. I have a family and a job that eats up most of my free time. And with the free time I do have, I'd almost rather be playing some of the newer games that are coming out....I play my PS3 more still then any other console (and I really want to get a PS4 soon.) So I'm going to start weeding out some stuff. My keystone consoles are the NES/N64/Playstation 1 and 2. Will probably get rid of the Gamecube stuff, XBox stuff, Sega, Atari and INtellivision. NES games will probably get paired down to the ones I really care about. ----But in the back of my mind, I keep thinking "The Gamecube/PS1 stuff is starting to get hot right now.....hold onto it for a few years, as the games for those systems seem to be going up in value." I do have a tad bit of a hoarder mentality that I'm trying to break, too. :)
+ALL KAPS Hahaha I know exactly what you mean! It's so funny how you can completely 180 your ambitions after just simply coming across something in the wild.
And yeah I feel your pain - I definitely have a bit of an addictive personality hence why I went so overboard with everything =\ Good luck to us both!
I had to do this recently as well, and now I personally tend to try and stick with a 50 games per system limit (with some leeway, of course) and that helps me keep the quality up
+GenericInterwebs That's a really great rule!! I would have such a hard time following that one though haha - there are so many great games on each console.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah man! I'll give my dollar on it, I love to collect PlayStation because it is one of my favorite systems, but I traded in some games I didn't want or won't play. Just like good ol' Radical Reggie said, it's good to downsize.
I only collect for systems I grew up with. So no NES sadly, Saturn, Sega CD, and some other ones. Yes, it's been tempting. BUt I always got to tell myself that it's just a hobby, not a lifestyle. Then reality comes back to me. Yes there are games I want for all those systems, and maybe someday I'll get a few games for them. But I've been collecting since 2008, and love it more then ever because I have always had it under control and have had no problems yet recouping costs.
+SCL Saucington That's a great way to look at it. And props to you for not losing your mind =) It's very easy to do
That’s what I’m at I’m at about 230 now
I only collect sports games and kid's games.
That's really the way to go, I feel.
Good points. I try to only get games that I'm interested in but sometimes I go overboard and get them just because they're cheap. I definitely shouldn't really keep any sports titles because I'll more than likely never have any interest in them.
+Cjediknight87 Yeah it's really easy to do lol.... I have to stop myself constantly at sales or stores =\
I've seen finding games in my area come to a crawl for retro, Gamecube is the worst I've found 16 titles for the Gamecube in 3 years lol. PS2 is a good one to collect for though because most people bypass it due to it's giant volume library. I was enjoying collecting for the Sega because most ppl left it alone and went for SNES instead but now over the past couple years I haven't seen Sega much at all out in the Wild.
Games that define a console...thats all...10-15 titles for each system is perfect
only buy games from tv&movies , nintendo only , rpg , jrpg , trpg games...
Do a n64 full set it’s easy not too expensive and only 296 games for us set
Good video! The good news is that buying less shovelware or filler stuff frees up more money for the good stuff. It doesn't feel like you're spending as much on the filler because it gets purchased in little 5, 10 or 20 chunks, but if you buy a single 100 game you really want and none of that filler, you break even and probably have a lot more pride in what you collect.
Oh and I've just recently found your channel, A+ stuff dood.
+Blinkloggery Exactly!
Thank you very much I appreciate that!
I agree, quality over quantity, except for NES, I will buy every game I can afford for that system. But the rest is only stuff I want to play. I'm only at around 1000 games, but am pretty happy with the diversity of my collection. Having said that, of any system, I would like a complete NA DC library.
+IcewindTom Yeah I am most definitely hoarding all of those old cartridge based games haha - I certainly won't be letting those go! Man the DC sure sounds like a very popular system to collect for - I think you're like the 4th person to say that in the comments on this video and I've seen many people talk about that on their channels. I STILL have yet to even play mine =\
I don't plan on going for any kind of complete collection.I'm only collecting Playstation 1-4, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn,PSP & PSVita. If I do downsize it won't be til later.I only pick up what I have an interest in or plan on playing.
+Chris P Yes sir you have great taste in your collection =) Thanks for watching!!
Good video. Not many people talk about downsizing their collection. It's always about more. Personally I try to go for what's fun. Stuff I know I'll play or anything that's recommended to me. That way I can keep the habit under control.
+RetroReprise Yeah that's true! I wish I had that mentality from the get go =\
I've been collecting for the GameCube and news for years now but lately I've been having fun collecting for the ps3. like rpg's and exclusive's it's been a lot of fun and there pretty cheap right now for most games
+TheBman292 Yeah the PS3 is an excellent one to collect for right now! I see games super cheap at GameStop rigiht now so I've been trying to grab some of the ones I held off on.
I was really into NES for about the last 15 years and now I am really parring down my collection. I just felt like the 750 titles I had were not all quality titles. The worst part is trying to get just a few dollars for them on eBay when they are shovelware. Great video, thanks!
+TheUrge2Run1983 Wow that's an impressive collection!! See with cartridge based games, I am definitely hoarding those haha. Yeah there is a lot of crap in there, but they are just going to get more and more difficult to come across. I may change my perspective on that down the road, however.....
Thanks for watching!!
I use to collect everything but I eventually grew out of it and now it's down to my favorites, games from my childhood and my complete US Dreamcast set. still not finished with Dreamcast collecting though, going for a complete PAL and Japan set as well, the Dreamcast fucking rocks
I've heard so many people say that about the Dreamcast and I just totally missed the boat on that one. I still have yet to play a single game on that system =\
Gare Bear's Gaming Ground you have to get one. the Dreamcast has a lot of fighting games, my favorite being Marvel vs. Capcom 2, it's got a good amount of Arcade games like House of the Dead 2, Crazy Taxi, San Francisco Rush and NFL Blitz. A lot of shmups like Giga Wing 1 and 2, Mars Matrix, Chaos Field, Ikaruga, Radirgy. and of course Shenmue. so many great games
I think th getting rid of stuff when you get alittle momentum it makes it easier to down size! I really only focus on ds, 3ds. I will get snes if they are a good deal but don't buy those from stores or seak them out!
+jamiesue131 Yeah I am definitely hoarding cartridge based games =) Those certainly aren't going to get any easier to find so I definitely won't be letting go of those.
Nice vid sir. I think a lot of people are moving away from games they dont play. I personally dont hold on to many disk games or 64 if we dont play them
+Matt and Jaelon Yeah I'll definitely hoard any cartridge based games I get just cause those aren't getting any easier to find =) But yeah disc based games, meh.... Thanks for watching buddy
i agree with you on this topic, i cant see the poibnt in full sets for a console, i know sport games and a lot of shovelware i would never touch, why own it? i collect what i like or love from gaming
Exactly! But to each their own I suppose
I'm the same, hate crap filler games in my collection. Waste of space and why have them if you will never play them.
Absolutely
Question...do you play all of the games you collect?
I'm exactly the same. Bought everything in sight for years, but since being on RUclips I've downsized massively. Got rid of all the filler and am striving for a 'quality over quantity' collection. Those collections are always far more impressive to me than collections that are simply huge.
+onaretrotip Exactly! Though at first, walking in to a game room of 5000+ games is quite awe inspiring =) I think it would lose its novelty pretty quickly though
This video was great. I think your goals are within reason. I always wonder if the bigger RUclipsrs think the same (I have a ton of games, but a shit ton are shit) my goal from the beginning was to get only the games I really want (my mission statement from my first video) yet I agree it is the nature of the beast and poo titles find their was into your collection. Iam glad you made this video because, I feel refocused with my goals and need to look through my stuff to weed out and filler. Thanks Bud!
+Retro Survival Yeah man that was one thing I forgot to mention was that unfortunately us collectors do tend to accumulate a bunch of shit titles not even by choice - it's because we buy these large lots that people won't separate and so we get stuck with them.
Thanks for watching buddy!
Agreed!
I have gotten to the point in which I have gotten a large enough collection that it takes up around 2 rooms. I like to play games and i have found that by aiming to collect hacked consoles or hacking them myself has really caped my collecting and made me a lot happier. i still collect my core games that i like however now i have most consoles from 79-2013 hacked and set up I dont need to go out every weekend spending 100£ just collecting bulk
Damn! That's really the best way to do it =)
Gare Bear's Gaming Ground yeah I think so too ! yes it may cost a little bit more to buy a hacked console or get the necessary stuff to hack a console but in the long run what's the difference between spending £50 to play one game or spending £50 to play every game that was ever made for the console.
Im going for a complete cart n64 collection worldwide releases, since it was my first and favorite console and complete nGage because its weird. Apart from that I just buy games I want to play :)
+Lastseengaming Ohhhhh very nice - n64 is definitely a feasible goal =) Haha the nGage!! I recently picked one of those up.... I remember when it first came out thinking how cool it would be have one o_O
yeah me too I really wanted one but could never afford one :P
im at 1k games only buying rpg , jrpg , trpg , games from movie&tv shows and nintendo only games.... when I say movie&tv games I mean n64 or before
+Fire emblem Exquisite taste you have there XD
thanks
I have a complete ps2 collection and its a waste of space
+Jared Boies Whoa congrats!
Hi There and great video! I have decided to sell my ps3 collection with 300+ games and 3 consoles and my Wii U collection with 100+ games and 2 consoles.. Do you have any advice how i should do it and where i should sell it? Have a great day! 😃
the only games I download are rare ps1 games off psn. I plan on buying them, but id rather dowoad them for 2 reason.
1. it helps me determine what games I'm willing to buy for higher prices (not spending 100+ and not knowing if I'd like it
2. I don't run the risk of damaging disk. (my copy of thousand arms has a ring due to my shitty old ps2.)
I'm starting to weed out games as well PS2 and PS1 games. I'm never going to finish either library so I might as well focus on my Dreamcast 128 games in & N64 library.
+The Retrollectors Those are both system that are very, very feasible to complete =) Good luck!!
Good video. I actually stopped adding just anything to my collection. I sold off a lot of GameCube that I was never going to play. Thinned out my PS1 set. PS2 is the only goal I have to complete since I'm less than 200 titles away. I completed GC exclusive titles, so was happy to finish that but ended up selling off a ton of games. I now have only like, less than 100 titles. Kept the heavy hitter GCN and PS1 titles, and titles that I would play.
Not making anymore videos either because I stopped hunting. Now I spend about 100 a month (eBay) on PS2 only until that set is complete.
+djdeus Yeah I'm really going to focus on exclusives but that's about it as far as that goes. Definitely keep it up with the PS2 collection! Yours is absolutely stellar!
Ah man I'm sad to hear that but I completely understand.... I'm afraid I'll end up just using ebay, as well with the lack of luck I've been having locally.
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground For me, the eBay move is to just conserve on gas. My car hasn't been too kind to me ever since I was hunting daily. I don't even thrift or yard sale anymore. Trying to stay focused on the more important things (family, friends, fun) and actually am getting back into music.
+djdeus Hey djdeus, don't know if you remember me or not, but I used to be a loyal follower or yours earlier this year. (Well, I still am haha.)
I didn't see your comment about stopping videos until now. Don't know if this is the best place to, but I'd just like to take the time to say thank you for making the videos and sharing your collection with everyone. :)
It's not going to be the same not seeing a new video in my subscription feed, but I respect your choice. Good luck with your collecting and that PS2 set is going to be amazing!!
-One of your biggest fans. :p
+Baddieboy Holden yep! I remember you! Yeah I think collection #4 was a great accomplishment for me and I was glad to share some of my adventures with everyone! Thank you for being a loyal subscriber! :)
Ive feared that happening to me, where I get so much stuff that I fill up a room and it starts getting cluttered, so right off the bat I decided that every item would be hand picked for my collection instead of random. lol If I ever get a massive SeeJayAre game room ill change my mind though.
+C Stove Ugh I wish I would have done that from the get go...... Yeah I used to think that too because eventually we'll have a house with enough storage, but I really don't want to fill all that space with shit =\
I only buy games I actually want or am really interested in. I like to own as little as possible. I want a very small collection. Could come down to own a few games but that really depends. Thats just my mentality and what I'm comfortable owning.
i am only thinking about collecting every PS4 game made in Japan who are released in my country
+Aktuell Russland (RussiaGood) Where are you from? I assumed Russia from your name =)
Gare Bear's Gaming Ground germany
Also I'm kind've lucky in a sense because I was never really a collector per se, just someone who didn't sell the games I really liked. Whenever I bought a game that I didn't like I sold it after I beat it. My entire collection miraculously fits on one book shelf. ATM I've got 295 games. vgcollect.com/csauce if you're curious :p
+C Sauce I'll have to check out what you have!
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground I still have some stuff coming back to me from my mom's (I moved across the country recently), but most of my stuff is here. I've got pictures up if you click on the Gallery link there. There's about 5% left coming in.
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground Oh I forgot to ask, where do you find your retro shirts? You wore a few that I was pondering getting haha
+C Sauce I've picked them up in various places.... Wal-Mart, Kohl's, JC Penny, Hot Topic
I collect all dynasty warriors games and items. I've got every game used and sealed so 2 of every game new and used. Inc a lot of Japanese ones. I think I'm the biggest dynasty warriors fan haha.
In regards to your collecting of handhelds, are you going for spinoffs like a Pokemon version of the same looking gameboy sp, only difference is the box? - just as an example.
Or are you going for different variants of consoles ie; colour? It's Gona be just as expensive probably mate, handhelds can be fairly expensive like the gameboy micro etc
+dingwei7 You know what's sad? I've never played any of the Dynasty Warrior games =( Ever since they first came out, I thought they looked really bad ass but just never got a chance to play them
Yeah I'm going for all of the GBA systems - different colors, different variations, etc. That Pokemon SP is going to be a tricky one =\
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground
Ahh man you need to play them! Play number 5. The older games maybe a bit outdated and the newer ones aren't that great. You'd love the music as well! All amazing guitar
+dingwei7 Haha I know I do! I heard Hyrule Warriors is quite similar in gameplay style?
Quality versus quantity. The only system that I would want all of the games is for the psp just because I play it probably the most. I enjoy handheld games.
If you want that ds system I told you about I'm willing to do a trade. I don't collect handhelds and instead of it dusting up my shelf, I would rather you enjoy it in the collection. We can talk about it.
+QourkyGamer Yesssss I would love to add a lot more games to my PSP library... and the Vita =) There are so so many RPGs I need to snatch up before they hike up in price
LOL after you told me about getting that, I scoured eBay to find one otherwise I would take you up on that! Granted, the one I am getting doesn't work but I just want it to have it =)
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground oh of course you did. I should have said it then. lol. its all good. hope you can fix it. XP
ps there is a new game coming out for the psp. believe ot or not. lol. and check your target!! they stuck a lot of vita games on sale at mine!
+QourkyGamer Hahaha it's ok. I honestly figured you'd want to hang on to it so I didn't even think to ask if you'd be willing to trade =) But thanks for offering!! From now on I'll harass you about everything you find XD
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground haha ugh I don't know, I gues I could keep it as my main ds. I just know if I started collecting the different systems... ill want em all and that is a very expensive one. maybe. Dude go right ahead, worse I say is sorry keeping it lol. I found out why my video wasn't uploading so I'm going to upload another one or two tonight and I already have a few deals set up for this weekend when I go see my fam. so yeah never hurts to ask. lol.
Im always downsizing! If someone else really wants something I have, I will always trade it off to them. Im sure they would rather have it then me! Lmao! I respect your decision on this man, good luck on the hand helds! I love collecting for handhelds as well!
+64BitForLife Thanks for watching buddy - glad to have you back ^_^
great idea man, im in the process of doing the same myself. NO sports games except a select few good ones and black label only. Im outgrowing my game room already..good video man and its worth it to have a focus.
+thegamingphile Gotta hang on to NBA Jam and NBA Street =D Those are my jams!
Man you need to do a tour sometime! I've been curious what your layout looks like
+thegamingphile OMG @thegamingphile I love your vids just like Gare bear's you guys know each others its awesome
this video made me sub your channel. I watched your game room tour and thought wow that's alot of games in a small room it must be overwelming to have so much. I like that's you're getting rid of the junk and focusing on quality over quantity. I hope you took it all to a retro store and traded it all in for some quality games you don't have, rare snes or ps1 games.
I collect ps1 and ps2 games but only games I want to play. I had at one point about 150 games in total over multiple systems like sega mega drive and sega saturn but never really enjoyed playing them. so I sold most of it off and now only have about 30 games and a ps2 slim. I discovered that the retro games I like playing are mainly snes and nes but I find collecting them in the UK very expensive. right now I emulate on my phone with a 8bitdo bluetooth controller. it's great as a little travel set up and doesn't take up any space.
my ultimate collecting goals would be to get a snes and sd2snes cart to play and maybe collect boxed super famicom and boxed snes games for display. A famicom av 101 and again just games I'd want to play. and now with ff7 remake I need to get a ps4. so it be 2 shelves total, one with a famicom, snes, ps2 slim, maybe a ps3 and a ps4. and then the other one filled with the games. but like all collectors I'm probably underestimating.
I look forward to more videos
+monkeycrow84 Thanks a lot I really appreciate that! Yes I hear collecting over there is a nightmare =\
the reason I collect everything is cause when I was a kid, my family was really poor and the only time I would get a new game was on my birthday or christmas and thats if we could afford it at the time. now that I am older and have some money to spend, I like to splurge and get what I can to try and fill the void of when I was a kid. all my other friends from when I was a child all had lots of game stuff, and I didn't. but I can see your point and spending money on things that are not a necessity, but a luxury. I guess I haven't gotten to the point where you are at yet and just get games that worth getting and not just shovel ware. great video.
+123hellstorm I know exactly what you mean - I was the exact same way! Thanks for watching =)
I'm wanting to go for the complete PS2 collection but... I'll never have enough room for it.
At the very least I want to collect all the GOOD platformers and RPG's for it.
That and PS1.
+Tbagging Since 1990 I think unless you have an entire basement as your disposal, it's impossible to have room for a full PS2 library - especially if you want to display other games o_O
And yes those are exactly what I'm going for, for the most part =) I'll definitely hang on to my NBA Streets, though =)
I went through my Gameboy Advance games from garage sales and I decided to get rid of most of it. I really only want the GBA games I had (and still have) from when I was younger.
+Hyper Fuze Oh man there is a TON of shovelware on that system lol. I really need to do the same honestly =\
I'm glad I don't have that hoarder type mindset. Actually, my collection for my main video game systems (PS2, N64, GCN, Wii U) is really small, compared to others.
Nothing wrong with that at all. I wish I could get myself to let go of more of the stuff in my room but it was hell just getting rid of what I did lol. It's hard for me to let go of cartridge based games for some reason
I have been really relaxed with my collecting. I would like to have a complete Gamecube and Dreamcast collection. I know some of these games are going to be hell to get. But for me that is kinda the fun of it. Right now I dont have too many games for either system but slowly my collection is growing.
+CryoSneasel That's very true - I did neglect to mention that the hunt can certainly be fun but also daunting at times.
i only collect games that i want to play and my favorites ones...i got rid at least the rare/expensive ones and the filler titles at gamestop
+Darrell Dath That is an excellent mindset and I wish I had that from the beginning =\
It was a tough task getting rid of games I didn't see a purpose for. I'll start getting rid of things every 6 months are so. I got rid of almost 200 games.
Collections I'm trying to complete GTA, Megaman 1-6 and just getting TG16 games in general.
+Lifespiller79 You should be pretty close to having all of those Mega Man games yeah? And good lord I would LOVE to come across some TG games!! I still don't have a single one in my collection
I have MM 1-4. Only have 2 TG16 games
Nice! You're doing much better than I am my friend =) Which TG games do you have?
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground MM 5 and 6 are stupid expensive. I have Keith Courage and Vigilante.
I know it man! MM 1 is though, too =\
I would LOVE to get Lords of Thunder some day. One of my all time favorite gaming soundtracks =)
I like what you are doing and wish I could do the same. It's me and my son's collection and every time i ask to downsize I get shot down. lol.
+steven rhine Haha yeah my daughter shot me down on almost every Wii and DS/3DS game I wanted to get rid of =\
After watching you for I have been really into collecting handheld stuff. I also collect gamecube, nes, snes, and n64.
+RandomRUclips Guy Handhelds are so fun haha!
Quality over quantity is a good approach. I recently thinned out my PS2 collection as well.
+The Game Hunters How much did you end up getting rid of?
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground Approximately 50 games that I didn't think were ever going to get played.
I collect just the best games for genesis and snes and my goal is to play them at least once!!!!!! yea don,t over do it!!
Sounds like a hell of a plan =D
Yea i just did the same thing...I just got rid of megaman 1-7. Megaman x1,2,3 and just buck o'hare just to name a few. There are too many sega games and rpg's i want
+Sinistral ArcVI =O you did not!!
I sure did...lifespiller made the same face too when i told him...When i started collecting i was getting games that everyone else wanted. not myself
Wow!! Yeah I can understand that.... I've definitely been guilty of doing the same before =\ But yeah if you don't have a huge attachment to the series then I totally understand.... you could definitely fetch enough to get what you really want in your collection from those =) What did you end up getting in return? Or have you gotten that far yet?
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground I literally just got rid of them Sunday. I am looking to get bare knuckle 3...and a few more genesis games. I sold them for super cheap (well megaman X1 and X2 anyway)....It was to a new collector and i believe in paying it forward. One game i was able to get was crusader of centy for the genesis...super stoked
Oh that was very awesome of you =) Never heard of Bare Knuckle or Crusader!
just dont collect sport games period
im about 60 titles away from a full US PS2 set and its been really fulfilling for me since its my favorite system. i wouldnt do it with a system i have no connection to though, like saturn or genesis
+vernon harley Wow that is impressive!! My deep deep love for the PS2 is what made me want to go for the whole collection initially but aye aye aye... my hat's off to you on that achievement =)
+Gare Bear's Gaming Ground thanks....i fully understand your choice to stop going for ps2. it seems more and more collectors are having the same change in collecting habits you are. i always say collect the way that makes you happy. Great vids! keep em coming!
I understand where you're coming from. I decided that I was only going to collect games that I myself would play system or not instead of buying anything and everything. I was getting drained that I wasn't finding games I really liked and it would even burn me out from playing video games at all. Games are so much more then electronic stimuli, it's art, music, expression, storytelling, poetry, conflict, strategy and adventure. It took some deep thinking to realize that so now I just collect stuff that I know I will enjoy playing in some capacity.
It's helpful to be realistic with your passion rather then trying to think bigger then it.. it doesn't become something you love after that.. just a dream that you know you can't fulfill. Knowing what you want and knowing what you don't want are 2 steps towards enjoying your passion again, Gary. Best of luck and GAME ON, mah brotha!
+BlkNblue19 I have no idea why but RUclips marked your comment as Spam haha....
And yes I totally agree with you 100% on that first paragraph!
I think many of us tend to have that desire to want to go as big as possible with our collections. When you see some of the channels on here with an entire large room or basement dedicated to games FULL of them, it's very very tempting to want to emulate that. Especially for someone like me with a very addictive personality =)
Thanks for watching bud!
Nice going youtube!
+BlkNblue19 Agh IDIOTS!
nice vid.
+Koki and P Thanks! Thanks for watching =)
GBA and DS are both filled with shovelware by the way.
Oh yeah absolutely. I wouldn't even dare try to go for complete collections on those systems o_O
Hey Gare love your videos! You do a wonderful job. I'm trying to setup my own channel, but just doing longplays with no commentary atm. Any suggestions for a mic or camera? I've only got my iphone right now (not for the longplays though lol) :(
+C Sauce Thank you!!
Right now I just use my cell phone (Galaxy S5) and a Blue Snowball microphone. Nothing fancy! =)
I'll have to look into that mic! I bought a Blue Yeti for when I attempted to be a streamer, but holy cow that thing picks up EVERYTHING in the room (in other words it's no good :( ).
+C Sauce Haha yeah that's kind of a drawback of getting such a good microphone. That's why I struggle so much with doing Twitch streams because having kids and pets.... good freaking lord! The people that do watch can hear my kids fighting, animals fighting, my wife chewing my butt for being too loud =P
I collect mostly for my Sega genesis.
thumbs up for barron of hell
I think you are a great youtuber and thank you for your service to our country and you deserve 100,000 subs you are awesome
+reviewsRus 2.0 Wow thank you very much - that really means a lot!!
Your welcome man I think your right up there with seejayare and metal jesus rocks
You are far too kind but I am very humbled and honored =)
I was just wondering if you could only play one video game console for the rest of your life not including backward compatibility what would ot be
Ohhhh man.... well if I could cheat I'd say the PSP because you can hack it and not only play all the PSP games you want, but emulate on it as well =) But if we're playing by the rules here..... I'd have to say the PS2. There is such a huge, huge variety of games for it with an amazing library to choose from!
How about you?
That’s downsized 😂?
Lol I've gotten rid of a ton more since then
This is the first thing I tell anyone who wants to start collecting, what kind of collection do you want. I made the mistake of collecting everything when I first started 5 years ago and ended up wasted a lot of money. I am also in the process of getting rid of junk and games that do not a nostalgic attachment to them. Great video Gare Bear!
+rudyss101 Great tip! Definitely need to teach the new collectors out there the right way to start =) Thanks for watching!!
"You don't make jack shit in the military". I made a income that only now is being matched by my government job as a GS-12.
Granted time in service rank and deployment combat pay is a factor.
Thank you for your service, my friend
Gare Bear's Gaming Ground psst. Your collection is kick ass. I like organized collections. OCD from military life I suppose.
Yeah no doubt. I was a neat freak before but good god the army certainly made that exponentially worse. Thanks for the kind words, brother
