    If you have not seen this one, it's worth having a look. Very well-done attention to detail - it looks like a metal aircraft.

    This would be a fun project for sure! The concern is that it may be well over $200k with the engine, prop, paint, and avionics. Maybe even $250k (or more if you really go wild with it). It would still be fun though!

    This plane is 70% of the size of the original P51 and has about 34% of the original horsepower.
    I really like the idea of building smaller scale functional replicas of famous war planes, but not when they are 350mph slower than the originals.

    This is a wonderful replica. It's great to see the Mustang being produced with new technology. I do wonder though, why make it at 70% scale? Especially considering the difficulty in making everything fit under the cowling and only having 1 engine option, why not just make it full sized?

      @AVweb  2 года назад +9

      The original Mustang, which pilots loved to fly, was designed to carry one pilot to Berlin and back - along with enough guns, bombs, tube radios, oxygen, and fuel to make the trip worth it. Not many buyers need most of that capability today. This aircraft carries two people, costs a fraction of the price of an original in purchase price and maintenance, and burns a fraction of the fuel. But you can have a lot more than 70 percent of the fun flying it. It's not for everyone, but as you can see from the comments, it stokes the dreams of a lot of fans.

    Can you make a full size P-51?
    My Father was a WW-2 veteran (passed away) 😢 .
    But
    He purchased a military surplus Allison V-12.
    Father disassembled the Allison but got cancer.
    Need help to complete my Father's project.
    He said the huge Bendix carburetor and supercharger was not the best design.
    Father wanted to use modern technology fuel injection 💉 and Turbochargers (2 or 4). Father wanted to use E-85 as the fuel ⛽, because of E-85 has high octane ratings. Standard Allison could make 2,000 horsepower. Or I can swap or sell.
    If you want to hear the Original V-12 P-51 Sounds, make me a Full size P-51 that we can put a original Allison V-12 . Remember the first series of P-51 aircraft were designed for the Allison V-12 and the hundreds of P-51 had Allison V-12 engines. When I was young, the WW-2 veterans would fly their original P-51 on the weekends. The Sounds of a Original V-12 is awesome. Help me.

      @crissd8283 2 года назад +1

      @@billywilliams6853 Honestly, you should sell that engine and buy some 3/4 size kit. Way cheaper, way more fuel efficient, way lower maintenance, etc. Unless you can afford a crew to maintain your plane for you, a modern smaller version is much better.
