Samsung 55" Odyssey Ark Review: A Stunning Concept Display Come to Life

- With unique multitasking views, a stunning spectacle of a display, and the best audio to ever come from a television/monitor, the Samsung Odyssey Ark is certainly a feast of immersion. That feast comes at a high cost though, and at $3500, even with all the extra features Samsung packed in, first generation issues and limitations may have you reconsider boarding this Ark and waiting for the next iteration.

Great review ✨The Homer tie-in was beautiful 👌
Seems to me many people have been upset about the one hdmi limitation for multiview. I personally don't find it a deal breaker at all. I wanted this for the gaming experience, and that's exactly what the Ark delivers, an experience. Small examples would be either looking down a valley or looking up a building I never felt like I'm actually at those heights or looking at up that building for enemies, theres that sense of vertigo thats unbelieveable oh and you get a real sensation of speed in GT 7 and the window frames from the cars actually feel like they are over you it's so cool, it's absolutely insane. Those feeling and the amount of picture clarity, sharpness, brightness, depth and detail that I am getting from my ps5 now is so worth it to me. 55" 4k, 165hz, 1000r curve, 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs, optical out, and on top amazing speakers for movies, what more could you ask for? Everything else was a bonus, but in my opinion this was made for gamers, not for workers and it's definitely gamer's dream come true.
Sounds like you actually want a VR headset, not a big vertical monitor.
@@MakeUseOf Haha, nah...I tried VR a few times and I have always gotten motion sickness from it. I think as you know this is monitor is so immersive it's as close as VR is gonna get without being VR, just a nice little bonus without the physical ailments lol.
That's a shame. Well worth practicing to work through the motion sickness. So many factors that can cause that, like latency if the headset or GPU wasn't up to the task.
exactly
The massive rotating screen! Mind blowing
The Ark Dial does have volume! It’s down the middle separating all the buttons. I thought the same thing to when I got mine 😂
Very good review, thank you!
Nice review, good points for the good and bad thing of it, that price is really the main issue
I’m happy I found this late lol on sale for $2000 right now.
Great review thank you for posting. I’ve just ordered one for office use in the main might be slight overkill!
How did the monitor perform as an office and productivity device? Would you recommend it based on your experience?
Thank you for your video and it was just superb like all the rest of them that you have done! Now... On to business. I have been looking for the best monitor on this planet that is 16:9, curved, and big! This would be for my Series X, and playing Microsoft flight simulator 2020. Would you recommend this? Obviously the graphics card would be from the series X so there's not much else I can do but MSFS 2020 is a monster and needs a monster monitor that's fast. What do you think?
It’s 2500 right now I paid 1000 after returning an extra rtx 3090 to microcenter amazing monitor it’s not worth 3500 but it’s worth 2500 no doubt buy it and enjoy I haven’t even tried cockpit mode yet
is the width as long as a 49inch super ultrawide and just a bit taller like a 32 or 34 inch monitor or something else please? thanks
Excellent monitor for trading. looking forward to getting one.
I just picked up the gen 2 version for $1614. If you are veteran, government, first responder you can get it at that price from Samsung directly.
This is so Awesomeness 👌 Thanks for the review 😀
Get 3 Arks in vertical mode side by side :D
Hi at 8:42 the left big screen from PC, can you scale it to the top and bottom of the screen and not have black bars?
What’s better between this and say 95b Samsung 55 inch OLED
The one connect box is the only thing holding me back from buying. That and the size. I have a 40in 4k monitor at 2000r. I am happy with 40in i just wish it had more curve. I was hoping for a 49 ultra wide with 2160p at 5140 wide or so at 800r or 1000r. It seems they are all at 1440p or 1600p. The monitor I want does not seem to exist. The price does not bother me at all if they had what i wanted. I paid $2500 for this 40 inch back in 2016.
Hello i have odyssei ark and while full screen gaming at 165 hz and i am quit game or alt tab , screen goes black and have circle turning on it for 3-4 sec like its loosing signal , if game is on 120hz with full screen no issue also 165 hz with windowed or bordless screen no problem and also while gaming HDR shows off. It must goes ,,on'' himself while gaming no ?
di you try to watch netflix and 4k movies? picture quality is better than oled tv?
I wonder how is this compared to a s95b
if I plan to connect a Mac studio and a windows laptop/ machine what would be the solution to the single HMDI port? and adapter and a splitter switch?
The One Connect box has four HDMI inputs, so not needed.
what kind of desk are you using? Im trying to find one that holds the capacity .. I bought Bestier Computer Desk 55” L Shaped Gaming Desk with LED Lights .. do you know if this will hold this monitor .. on the top shel f or bottom .. I need a DESK with the capacity to hold the monitor .. scanner .. obviously other things like keyboard . mouse etc.
I’m using arrozzi pro desk very sturdy but use it without the desk mouse pad and put felt pads under the mount so it moved very easy
hey i can't seem to get the ark 55 to output 165hz only 120hz?
That would depend on your input. What are you putting in? Are the cables up to spec?
What about productivity ?
Single input is the most counter intuitive offence Samsung made with this monitor.
Why make such a big monitor when you can’t even have two inputs showing on the screen at once? It almost feels like common sense at this point to implement it.
How do you get the cockpit mode PC input to actually display 4K resolution? Did you need to update to Windows 11?
windows 10 says it's displaying a 3840x2160 resolution when vertical. i have seen that windows 11 does have more intuitive display settings, though haven't upgraded yet, so didn't test with win 11.
@@yellj031 mine says the same but it’s clearly not 4K. It looks very blurry to me in cockpit mode without any other apps running. Can you let me know your settings?
@@NaryaMithrandir thanks. Do you know which combinations worked for you?
@@LordCunningRoan when you rotate in cockpit view the max resolution is 1080p. You can't view in 4K in multiview. Unless you're trying to just play a game full screen vertically. In which case I apologize for misunderstanding. But in cockpit you basically get 3 27" 1080p monitors. Even if you just have 1 source of the 3 on its Still limited to 1080p.
I tried to love this monitor. But at $3500 it needed to be perfect. PPI is just to low for me to justify keeping it. So back it goes
@@DeliriumBlades according to another review, if you are using only 1 view in cockpit mode, it can do 4K (the person in the video was using a PlayStation). I believe it is a windows scaling issue that causes it to not work in Windows, but other inputs seem to work (although I haven’t tested this personally yet)
I love the screen , im considering to buy one and sell my Samsung g5 34 inch 3440x1440 165hz display
stopped watching when he said he didnt have a capable gpu but instead had a switch..
they thank you
I thought this thing was cool when I first heard ab out it, but now I am not so sure.. you can only use one HDMI port at a time? SO you can't show multiple HDMI inputs at the same time.. only one and then the Samsung apps.. nope it doesn't deserve the asking price in my estimation then.
i cant wait to see a video of someone running straight into one of these when playing vr lmaooo
UFO Test. Possibly the most important piece of information, always left out.
I buyed it a few days ago, i hope my 3070 can handle this beast😅
How did it work out?
can i watcht tv on it ??
Yes. It's a TV.
with the current discount and my edu discount i can get it for $1800......got me shook
I bought mine 3 days ago for 1575 👌🤌
Would this work well with a MacBook Pro 2021 M1?
airplay allows quick and easy mirroring, so yes! or you can just plug in a usb-c to HDMI cable.
I saw this monitor on display at my local Microcenter. It looks like a logistical nightmare :) However, I could see some level of benefit from having this. I might take a look at this again next year when Samsung drops the price by $2,000.
its getting close, but will they try n sell it lower than 2499 right now.. dunno or discontinue it
I just order mine for 2k.
@@mdk42o74 not bad of u got the room for it.. its maasive
G Sync kompatibel vrr Nvidia
Everybody is crying about only being able to use 1 HDMI input for the multi vertical option. I think that is so smart for samsung to do. Use the internal apps. You are guaranteed no lag on the internal apps and it allows you to save resources from your pc. This allows those with older laptops and PC's to enjoy this instead of thinking they have to upgrade their system at this time. I think it's smart.
It sounds like you're assuming someone would use multiple HDMI outputs from a PC (otherwise why would it be using more resources?). But that't not a common use case, I don't think. However, two separate HDMI sources would be quite normal.
Not supporting 3 hdmi is a pity.
No 1 needs 2 remotes for their TV Everyone Needs 3 display port 1.4 for gaming
