      Agreed. Please ignore that idiot - who are they to even say that?! It's YOUR work! Those two paintings were my favorites of the whole sketchbook. So dynamic and hypnotic. Remember that when you look at them!

      I though the abstract work was stunning. A lot of people believe abstract work is a cheap way to create but, it takes real skill to make abstract art that is of a shape, texture, and color scheme that is pleasing to view. You nailed it.

    Some people just don’t get the concept of experimentation. This is what makes a real artist. I love those two abstract pages, the colours, composition 💕
    All of your sketches are beautiful and I can’t stand people being mean.
    Thanks for sharing this sketchbook tour, Minnie! Looking forward to the next one 😊 Take care.

      I agree, these pages are lovely. The person making those highly judgmental and inaccurate comments was being hurtful and did not represent anyone else's opinion. She (or he) not only showed their lack of education and artistic integrity, but also their lack of social etiquette.

    • @RadishTheFool
      @RadishTheFool 4 года назад +4

      Well said, I totally agree. Also, sketchbooks are so personal. If someone shares it with us, we should either be thankful and supportive, or quietly move on to the next artist if it's not our jam. To judge it at all, let alone so irresponsibly harshly, shows a severe lack of simple human empathy.

    • @sammirureka
      @sammirureka 4 года назад +1

      I have to agree. Minnie it doesn't matter if one person didn't like something you did. Right off the bat you said you loved the way those two pages looked, and I'm biased because so do I. The most important thing is that you enjoyed making them and you enjoyed the outcome. Screw other people's opinions!

  • @TheAverageArtist

    I reeaaally hope that person's comment didn't put you off exploring and expressing yourself in a way you might not have done before. It's YOUR art, can't please them all. I love your work and I think that those exploration pieces are fascinating and beautiful. You are epic! :)

    This is super weird timing because i literally just ordered a moleskine sketchbook last week, and it arrived a few days ago! I havent even sketched anything up on it yet, i was too scared in case i would mess it up! After seeing yours though, i feel a lot more at ease to just dive into it and start making art without stressing too much. Also that painting of your cat is so cute, i love it

    One way to get over the fear of messing up my sketchbook is to gesso over the offending page and do a gouache painting over it.

    It's so sad how easily a negative comment from one person can completely change your perspective on a piece of work, especially one you were so proud of. I know when I let my mum flip through my sketch book and she points out a painting she doesn't like, I always obsess over that comment even though she didn't intend it in a nasty way.
    All your work is so inspirational, especially the experimental pieces because it shows how you're challenging yourself to grow as an artist and that is something to be admired, not criticised.
    Thank you for sharing your art with us! xx

I hope that with time that comment won't stick to these lovely paintings, those experiments are what makes artists grow and evolve and know themselves better:)

  • @logantj8020
    @logantj8020 4 года назад

    in regards to the negative comment you received on those paintings, i personally liked them a lot. they might not strike a cord with everyone and that's okay, we all have different preferences, but that doesn't make them any less valuable of a piece. to expect our work to please everyone all the time, even ourselves, is an impossible expectation. i like the route you're going with your sketchbooks. stepping out of comfort zones is what helps us evolve. i used to watch a lot of sketchbook tours and always wondered how people made them look so good. i felt like i could never compete, but i've started to realize, my fear of ruining a sketchbook hinders me from developing my skills. i stick to my comfort zones because i know it's what i can draw, but i find that i'm happier when i produce work that i'm not used to because that's when i can really see myself evolving. i guess it's better going in without any expectations and just draw because it's what you like to do.

    I've been following this channel for a few years now, and what I've loved most is how much she emphasizes appreciating the process and striving constantly to grow. Like if she has a criticism (her own) of her work, she doesn't sulk, but brainstorms how she might approach something differently in the future, and really studies/practices to build a new skill or medium. This philosophy of accepting the rough and imperfect is so beautiful and not something often seen in social media. As someone who enjoys making art but doesn't intend to making it my career, I appreciate this approach to art :)

    Love seeing all the experimentation in your sketchbook. Always makes me want to break out my own sketchbook and just play with different things.
    I agree some people get too caught up in how everything 'needs' to look but I don't think they keep in mind that they're looking at another artist's work from a different perspective so of course they're going to look at it differently to their own. I always think whatever a sketchbook page looks like, it's always engaging when it's full of experimentation and different mediums. It's very freeing to not worry about what the end result will look like.

    I have been trying to get a bit more in to the ‘flowy’/experimental kind of painting/drawing lately, and really find that spread (the monet-like one) particularly lovely and inspiring 🥰 I saw one of your videos back in january and it inspired me to start sketching again after not having drawn for about 10 years. I decided to challenge myself to fill out an old sketchbook that really only had a few color studies in it. Now it’s completely filled out, and im halfway through a new one. What a lovely sketchbook! Thank you for taking the time to make a tour of it! And try to forget about that comment! Sadly it's always the negative comments that stick the best in our memory. There can be gazillions of positive comments, but we somehow always focus on that one naysayer. Personally I screenshot particularly lovely positive comments and whenever I get a negative reaction, I just look through those screenshots to offset that negative bias. It broke my heart hearing the story about comment on your experimental pieces. I haven't seen them before and I really like them, it's so strange to me that people feel entitled to leave hurtful comments on art channels. How will anyone know what they like if they won't try something completely different in their art practice? So tired of people labelling and putting creatives in boxes. That radish and the cute little squid 💕 I love your work and I love your videos! You inspired a bit of an artistic renaissance in me Jan of 2019, and I'm so grateful! Thanks for continuing to share with us.

    You have a very, very, very pleasing aesthetic with your work. I follow artists for either there portraits of people or their ability to create a great landscape, but you have bridged the gap beautifully. I think your work and colour choices are really inspiration to me. Just wanted to tell you. Ignore the negative comments on any of your work. There is a reason you have a large following, it's because you tick all the boxes. Keep it up :)

    Wow, some people are just too rude and should be be banned from social media until they learn either to be constructive in their criticism or to just shut up. This was my first look at your channel and I love your sketchbook. Seeing other people's failures and experiments as well as their successes is so helpful to those of use who are trying to improve. It also shows that practice really really helps, and that artists whose work we admire have got good at art because they work at it!
    Anyhow, your gouache is so interesting, and I will definitely be checking out your other vids, I really like all your work, including any happy accidents.

    Hi Minnie! Happy to see a real sketchbook! You are totally right when saying that if you try using it just for perfect drawings you end up not using it! Having the pressure of making only perfect paintings takes away all the joy. Thanks for sharing :)

    I think of all the youtube artists I have fallen in love with these past few years, I think your actual art and style is my favourite. I love how you put down tones and forms and have this balance of different textures. You've really inspired me over these past 3 or 4 years of starting my art journey

    I'm a total random here but an anspiring artist... just to chime in with other comments, that spread where someone was disappointed with where your art is going... what the actual fuck. As if anyone could be disappointed with that beautiful flow of colour and texture. The texture was stunning. That shit SELLS. Maybe not to everyone's taste but fuck man that was gorgeous. And all your value studies. Shit! I'm on schoolism now and signing up to Nathan's classes. When you opened up the spread of value studied my jaw dropped. I got to improve my game. Thanks for sharing! Real inspiration.

    Best to create art wherever your passions lead you! If you stopped yourself from exploring then sooner or later that same person would be commenting that your work wasn't the same if your heart wasn't in it

    I can’t believe someone had something negative to say about those paintings. They’re so beautiful. I literally thought “I’d love those as my phone walllpaper!” Don’t listen to that kind of criticism. There’s no point. You don’t have to please any one of us with your art and creativity. It’s so wonderful to share all of this with you and feeling a boost of joy or motivation just to get through these dark times. For every one person that criticizes, there’s 100 of us silent folk that truly love your work. Keep it up love. You’re doing amazing

    I really love watching these sketchbook tours and seeing how other peoples'sketchbooks turned out. I especially love the sketches of landscapes and houses you have there. I really have gotten back on my sketching of houses because of watching your videos and I have a sketchbook solely just for sketching houses. Posting and sharing on social media can be full of negativity but don't let that get to you. Just do what you love to do. I, for one, enjoy and always look forward to your sketches/paintings and videos. Have a wonderful day.

    Hey Minnie, I just wanted to say I love your channel, and I often find myself watching your older videos, and recent ones. I’m so amazed at your progress and how things you talked about or hoped to achieve (in older videos) is happening or has happened for you 🙌🏾, and it’s so inspiring to me! I’ve been wanting to start a RUclips for years, but shyness or thinking nobody would be interested always held me back, but I am really inspired and motivated by you and others to give it a try one day! Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to say thanks for doing what you do! ❤️ Sending much love and blessings to you!

    This sketchbook tour is so lovely. Your art is beautiful and your videos always give me mild ASMR tingles, which I love - even if I've seen them before, I love having them play in the background for relaxation. And your honesty about experimenting and practice is so encouraging. I've started getting more serious about my art in the last nine months or so and devouring different types of artist RUclips content. Your channel is one of my favorites and has helped me so much. Thank you!!

    I don’t know if I’m just waffling but I feel like you’ve REALLY refined and improved your art!!! It’s really giving a lot more professional vibes. I’ve always loved everything you create but I think this is the first time I’m looking at it and truly being struck by the technicality and precision in your strokes etc. You’ve always had a very recognisable style which I love!
