I find that sometimes we're really bad judges of how much something means to us and why. I neglected art for years thinking it wasn't important, but I'm not healthy when I don't create. Took me forever to learn that lesson. 🍃
oil on paper Steffi same with me. I drew since 10 years of age, but only in 2019 started to intentionally creating art with treating my OCD in mind. It helps a lot.
Oh my goodness! I just sat down to watch your video and nearly fell off my chair! Thank you so much for featuring my Skillshare class and mentioning my RUclips channel. You've absolutely made my day. Your journals pages are absolutely stunning. xx
You’ve inspired me so much! I began a RUclips channel because of yours and in fact my only video on it is art of studio Ghibli skies inspired by yours. Thank you for giving us quality content and a realistic outlook at what’s it is like living off of your art. Thank you for always willing to show us the scenes beyond the art work Minnie. Thank you!
I really love making little sculptures. I was discuraged from doing it because i'm not perfect at it but like i relize now that i should be making them simply because i enjoy making them x
Lauren Temple great point, Lauren! I think we as humans lost the sense of what creating art should mean to us. Nowadays it is always has to be like Instagram or Facebook worthy, but this is not important. The process is what makes difference in the end of the day.
I love how honest you are because a lot of illustrators online would not be realistic. There are days as an illustrator where art can seem boring or impossible and theres other days where it's all I want to do
Definitely has that vintage look that I love. Beautiful! One thing I learned from Inktober is that having a daily completed drawing does not work for me. The pressure of that daily deadline took the fun out of it plus I was often disappointed in the quality of the art. So, instead, I plan to make drawing a daily habit but not a completed work. Maybe work on the same painting or drawing each day until I feel it is finished. That kind of habit is much less daunting for me.
Hey Minnie 👋 I wanted to compliment you on how effective you are in getting ads in your video and making them not feel like ads. I am so used to hearing an ad in a video and immediately skipping through it to the content. With your videos, you are genuine and have wonderful delivery, so I never am feeling the need to skip through. I love your content and hope 2020 is rewarding for you!
I have so little hours in a day with a full time job and 2 kids it's just so hard finding time for art. I mostly liked doing acrylic paintings on canvas and that takes up lots of time. So I've started looking for ways to do it on a smaller scale every day and that's how I found your channel :) Thank you, you've inspired me to start filling some sketch books and start working more with watercolor and gouache. By the end of this year I hope to have at least 1 or 2 sketchbooks filled and to have build my skill further. One day I would love to be able to make a living doing what I love, but I know I have to get much better at it.
I work 7 days a week with 2 jobs but I’m so motivated to pursue a carreer in art that even 1 hour of sketching a day works for me. Thank you for this video! And I love your art and soft voice💋
I started a time blocking journal in a Happy Planner mini and it is eye opening on how my time is being used. It really puts things in perspective and I can now see where I am wasting my time. With that knowledge I can practice where I want the time to go and put it to good use.
I've been tracking my time using Google calendar and another benefit is that after a while it makes you want to do things instead of scroll through Instagram because at the end of the day when you look at your calendar you don't want to see mostly one color that is associated with procrastination
I really enjoy making art but honestly, I find it always hard for me to start to draw or paint. And when I try to do it, I always having an art block and sometimes it took me 1 or 2 hours to find an inspiration or something to draw. But anyway, I really enjoy when I've already focus and start to do some art and I find it hard for me to stop when I've already into it. Apart from that, your video is so inspiring & it always make me feel so calm whenever I watch it.
I adore creating , I’m so lucky that my kids are grown up now and art can now be my focus , for many years I slotted creating in where I had a spare minute , I’d have a sketch book in my car so I could draw in the 15 minutes whilst I waited to pick kids up at school I love your videos and always come away inspired 😊 thanks again 😍
I want to make some serious changes over the course of the next couple months. 2021 is gonna be my year. I’m gonna be productive and learn to be motivated and patient. I’m going to push myself out of where I’ve been for a few years. Thank you for your lovely inspiration I feel like your channel was recommended to me right when I needed to remind myself of how much art means to me and how much I want to keep doing my own gouache paintings
I love this spread, especially the inked poinsettia petals, and this topic is something I really want to tackle myself too. I've made it a habit to draw every day, but so many days when I don't feel in the mood, it ends up being nothing more than a scribble. It at least keeps me from quitting (not that I would now, but when I first started drawing I'd go on and off with it, and in order to make it a steady hobby I've been drawing every day for years), but at this point my focus is not just on sticking with it but improving. The past few weeks have been pretty awful art-wise, I've been really busy and my skills aren't what I want them to be and all that, but my painting class started today (YAY!) and I'm going to put a lot of effort into painting every day. I probably won't start with a time goal at first, just so long as I paint something at all, but eventually I'd like to challenge myself to spend even more time on it, especially since it's my goal to sell art and have a career from it! Thank you for your helpful & motivating videos
I love Thomas Franks classes. His first one, about workflow, helped me create a system that impressed my boss. Now when we get new hires, she has them shadow me and see how I use that system. I really liked what you said in this video!
I love skill share, it's taught me so much. I've taken Helen Colebrook's class Journaling for Positivity, and I can't wait to get into more of her classes. And my reason for doing art? All of the above! I work a regular nine-to-five and during my breaks I'm doing art; on my lunch break I'm doing art; when I get home from work I'm doing art. LOL. I try to squeeze it in just whenever I can.
Thanks so much Minnie small. I’ve been on this art journey with you these last 3 years and I have to say that everything you talk about resonates with me. I’m having this struggle and is comforting to know that I’m not alone and it’s ok it’s part of the growth process. I wake up 2 hrs earlier every day to work on my art. I’ve realized that I have to plan and do prep work so that time can be maximized. Hoping to do better at that this year. Loved the video, keep doing you
HI Minnie ---LOVE your channel. I have Skillshare & need to utilize it more this year. Thanks for listing the channels that you took. You did an absolutely BEAUTIFUL journal spread. I LOVE the vintage look also.
Me and my friends decided to do an everyday drawing, we actually made a contract. Since our course is digital arts, we have to build our portfolio. We just need to draw everyday even if its just a doodle. It helps but yes sometimes other tasks consumes our time.
Yess let's bring back pressed flowers and plants into journals! It's so funny I just recently got my first pen pals and I've been sending letters with pressed flowers and decorating the envelopes to have a vintage look. Love your work as always minnie
i keep a small sketchbook in the inner pocket of my jacket, with a pen loop and a ballpoint pen in it, so i can easily access it on the go when im commuting :) another tip i would add regarding finding time - maybe theres something you need to give up to make time, something that doesnt make you as happy or fulfilled or serves your goals. perhaps cancel netflix, make easier/quicker meals, or stay home instead of going out partying. i dont know your life! but i would also add that ten minutes can be enough to do a sketch and keep the practice going. i truly believe you can find ten minutes to draw if you allow yourself to :)
I study fine art so I have to make art all the time, so in my spare time I now make art youtube videos! I cannot seem to get away from creating art in some way
luluarts YAAY! I started art channel as well. First video is going live January 25th. Already subscribed to your channel. Its so exiting to see someone who just started to grow RUclips wise. I am a little nervous about putting my art out there... 😊
This is sooooo beautifull! I find myself gravitated to this kind of bulletjourneling-style, too. I love your videos and being happy about every new one. But now I am really excited, when a new one with sketchbook related content goes online, that inspired in this way.
Toggl is a perfect tool to measure the time in each task of the day! I really love it, especially as a freelancer, to kwon exactly how much I need to charge for a job
Thankyou so much for sharing your valuable tips on making time for art..I completely agree with whatever you said..I always like your videos.they are so motivational for being productive as an artist...🧡🧡
Inspiring stuff, Minnie! I definitely need to spend more time on drawing away from my clay work. Not least because it's enjoyable but I'm starting to get real eye strain at mindlessly (and needlessly!) staring at screens for hours in the evenings.
this video is kind of an eye opener for me? not even in the way you intended im sure. but i always find myself wishing to do this type of journaling but I always put it to the side because i need to "focus more on like REAL art" and a common thought that follows is "this kind of stuff doesnt belong in a sketchbook." who said that??? nobody!!! theres no rules!!!! ugh thank you for freeing me 😭 sometimes it just takes watching someone else do it to realize youre being silly...
I appreciate how confident your expressions and ideas come off... lovely spread, I think it would have looked beautiful before the paint splatters too. There was something very timeless about that clean look
Your page turned out beautiful! I’m hoping you’ll revisit the series where you fill your sketchbooks (in whatever form-progress on it, completed books or your thoughts on if the goal has not been completed yet.)
That was a lovely spread. Keep reminding us to do this. I'll need it. I'm taking college algebra and will be starting a new job very soon. Though I need to study the math every chance I get, I have got to carve out some time for art for my mental health.
Your videos are always so relaxing and inspiring, always love seeing them pop up on my subs list. I gifted myself Skillshare this year for Christmas and I'm already loving it. So much to learn! Have you ever thought of teaching your own classes there?
Wow from the moment you've started drawing green shapes of the leaves I knew it was poinsettia! Such a great job, but also so pleased to watch the timelapse ❤ the dried leaves will change in colour but not too bad :)
Yes its true we need down time after my work day its about 7 i try really hard to get some art and writing in but i worked through December and the start of January so i am taking these few days after work to myself and just relax because that is something i am not good at. But i am still journaling and planning for next month to get back to my art. ❤❤

lovely work as always
Instead of using watercolor, you could also use tea bags.
I always get discuraged when I realize i'm to tired to make art, I have been dealing with a lot of sleeping problems and getting a good night sleep is a luxery to me, so even trough I have time do I feel like I have no energy to do it. but I need to push myself trough it.
I track my time and activities several times a year, especially if something in my life is changing.
i love it! thanks! very nice 2o2o!!!
Again we are in same wave length... Love this video
"How to Have More *Time* For Art in 2020"... Actually have it? Hahahaha. My university classes have sucked all my humor away. * - * They're not so hard, or terribly boring (except maybe geography; the professor's voice makes me want to fall asleep), but they take so much of my time.
