It makes sense. He hasn’t played for the dodgers yet. Yes it’s the biggest contract in sports and it’s bound to be a championship level signing but until that happens, you are absolutely correct, Shohei doesn’t count
I wonder how much more Seager needs to do to surpass Beltre for the Rangers. Hard to say. He did get them their first championship, won ws mvp, finished 2nd in mvp, but it has only been 2 years.
@@CapraObscura This is quite possibly one of the worst responses you could've given. Beltre is the Rangers' best FA signing and it really is not particularly close.
I like the pick of Ivan Rodriguez for the Tigers. His numbers were solid for them but signing with one of the worst teams ever was an important symbolic move for the Tigers that showed real commitment to getting better. Getting Magglio Ordonez the next year probably had greater impact on the team from a winning standpoint but that may have never happened without Pudge helping turn the team around a lot in 2004.

I’m a little confused. You said Ohtani didn’t count because he was an international free agent, but wasn’t Chapman and Ichiro international free agents too?
Chapman petitioned for free agency and got it, while Ichiro’s team in Japan allowed him to negotiate with MLB teams. Ohtani wasn’t able to sign a MLB contract, and instead signed a minor league deal with a signing bonus. Ichiro got a MLB contract after the Mariners won the bidding to talk with him, and then negotiated a 3 year/$13M contract.
Eh, I dont really count Piazza cuz he was already a Met via trade, they just extended him on a new deal...by that logic you can take any all time great who stayed with 1 team his whole career as the best FA signing. Id say Beltran was the better pure FA signing. Also I dunno how Ichiro counts if Ohtani doesnt cuz they were both international signings...
I was wondering who you were going to choose for the Rangers, because initially I thought Beltre also. But then I remembered the almost immediate impact that Corey Seager had this past season, especially in the World Series. But Beltre spent much longer in Texas as of now, so this list would probably have to be reevaluated in a decade or so.
Reggie Jackson was the first big star free agent but the Red Sox almost were first as they were going to sign Rollie Fingers and Joe Rudi but the commissioner stepped in and said it wasn't good for baseball. Funny how he didn't have a problem with Reggie
Before I watch I’m going to assume Jon Lester is the pick for my Cubbies. He made them instant contenders, signaled the end of yet another rebuild and unlike anyone before or since led them to the longest awaited championship in sports history 😎
Actually it is a real shame Bonds went down the steroid route, without them he would have still been a 500/500 player, making him the only one in history. He was a sure fire HoFer without the roids, but now it is a blemished.
You can believe what ya want but if you think Bonds is the greatest player to ever play the game you must be high. He’s not even the greatest Giant ever. Mays is twice the player Bonds with his noodle arm ever was.
No. Shohei Ohtani does NOT count 🫵
Counts to me 🥹
So why does ichiro ?
@@Jay_nicolalol what? He’s one of the greatest to ever touch the diamond.

Love that there’s no huge intro and welcomes or explanation about what the video is gonna be about. We read the title.
I thought the same thing awhile back and decided that’s how I would do my videos from now on 😂

Yup--- not the BEST Tiger signing but one that showed - Hey, it's okay to play in Detroit.
We were hard up for stars until he came over.
Love the detailed long form content . Just subscribed . Keep it up, wish you would break the numbers down more and contracts

@@rhyde okay great , I'm watch that video now brother
Dave Stewart definitely meant more to the Athletics than Bartolo did,but enjoyed the video and the work you put into it Robbie
After trading Lorenzo Cain as part of a multiplayer deal to get Zack Greinke the Brewers best free agent signing was Lorenzo Cain.
I’m a little confused. You said Ohtani didn’t count because he was an international free agent, but wasn’t Chapman and Ichiro international free agents too?

2 tommy john surgeries? He may not be a 2 way player all 10 years.
Larry Walker, take me back in time. Those Blake Street Bombers were fun to watch. Walker, Galaraga, Bichette and Castilla.
Eh, I dont really count Piazza cuz he was already a Met via trade, they just extended him on a new deal...by that logic you can take any all time great who stayed with 1 team his whole career as the best FA signing.

He became a free agent after they traded for him.
@rhyde Thats my point. You can say any great player who never left the team was signed as a free agent after their current deal finished.
@@PosirepSame with Matt Holliday. Came from trade and extended. Wouldn't call it a free agent signing
As a pirates fan, I can tell you that Russell Martin is regarded so highly- especially for his home run in the 2013 wild card.
Over 10 years ago 😢😢 remember the Wild Card like yesterday
Great video. How about the worst signing/trade for each team? I nominate Ricky Ledée for the Giants.
A’s Bartolo Colon??? What about Dennis Eckersley or Dave Henderson? How about Bob Welch?

I guessed it as well hahah. Cubs World Series… no beating that!
The Cleveland baseball club will ALWAYS be the "Indians", aka "Chief Wahoo's" TRIBE.
Robbie sounds like Brian Kenny/Kenny Mayne.
I also definitely would've had Luis arraez for the Marlins
i would've had Corey Seager for the rangers and Edwin encarnacion or Josh Donaldson for the Jays but okay?
I always forget Maddox was with the cubs
This video came out before the Ohtani Dodgers deal 💀
I'm so mad that you didn't choose the player I think you should have picked!😡
Shoheis salary is gonna handicap LA
It’s deferred. Also, it’s the dodgers. They’ll be fine.
He actually isn’t the way he’s doing his contract is that they will pay him for the rest of his life so it’s not $70M a year
Bartolo Colon? Wow.
Palmiero 😂
Facts like why a juicer
This a great way to get 14-16 other teams fans to lose interest. They keep this up and they will ruin the game. It's coming.
also would've had miggy for the Tigers like wtf😭💀
If Ichiro counts for the M's then Jackie Robinson has to be the best Dodgers signing.
Was Bonds a 5-tool player? I thought he had a weak arm.
It wasn't really weak, but just average. Certainly not a top ten arm at his position for the time period he played in.
This list indicates to me a small market team does not sign many good free agents.
LET'S GO O'S
Cardinals Paul Goldschmidt? Or Nolan Arenado?
Both trades
@@briantaich got ya.
Cardinals should be Chris Carpenter IMO
Marlins is Pudge.
Did love that for them
Harper…
I agree with Pete Rose for the Phillies!
The professor
Corey Seager has to be the answer for the Rangers..
So far so good!
If the Tigers isn’t Pudge in ‘05 then he doesn’t know ball
Reggie Jackson is a great pick but I think I would've picked Jeter
Jeter was never a free agent. He was drafted and stayed a Yankee for his entire career
@@dntpeekmete5825 he literally would've had to resign tho?💀
@CameronHughes848 he always signed a extension. He didn't hit free agency til 2010.
Cole > Reggie
Cardinals traded for Holliday. I’d go with Jim Edmonds
Right, but he became a free agent. Edmonds is a good one too!

Why does ichiro count but not shohei
Ichiro was a non-restricted free agent. Ohtani was an Intl' Amatuer FA.
Ivan was a better signing that Miguel Cabrera???🤔🤦🏽♂️
Miguel Cabrera was traded to the Tigers, sir.
@@rhyde Piazza was traded to the Mets though... 🤔
They may have destroyed the entire league with one move as a Dodger fan I'm so anxious to see how dominant they will be for at least this season.
10 players better than Steroid Bonds:
1: Babe Ruth
2: Hank Aaron
3: Ted Williams
4: Lou Gehrig
5: Joe DiMaggio
6: Mickey Mantle
7: Shohei Ohtani
8: Yogi Berra
9: Ichiro Suzuki
10: Randy Johnson
