Jolly I LOVE the amount of humor you added to this video. I don’t recall many videos of yours where the edit was this heavy on the levity and I think it’s something you could experiment more with. It’s oozing with personality. Love it.
@@JollyOlive@JollyOlive I feel you bring just enough sassy with the right kinda information 😉. Not bad for a Mets fan. Speaking of the Mets big sexy would have been a good one 👍 😉
I like the humor, but I disagree that this video had the best showing of them. I like the quick little jokes or clips thrown in, but the couple of longer gags at the beginning felt odd to me. They felt too long, which made them seem forced. They would have been better if they only lasted half the amount of time.
I always love seeing Scott Kazmir in these videos. Let us never forget that Scott Kazmir vs. Albert Pujols is a pitcher/batter matchup that happened... in 2021.
Juan Gonzalez with Cleveland, 2001. Signed a one-year deal after turning down a mega-offer from Detroit. All-star in Cleveland, 5th in MVP, then went back to Texas.
Idk what Juan was thinking turning down $140 million. I get Comerica Park is a graveyard but I'd just take the 17.5 million per year and hope Detroit eventually dumps your salary onto a better situation.
My very first MLB game was Frank Thomas’s final career grand slam with the Blue Jays. Despite the fact that this is one of the more memorable highlights I’ve seen in person, I still have a hard time thinking about Frank in a Blue Jays jersey. 😂
It was farther back, but Andre Dawson and the collusion scandal where he took $700k to play for the Cubs and then went on to hit 49 HR and 137 RBIs, was one of the big ones back in the day.
One of your best scripts ever man this rocks! I’d love to see a vid similar to the 2022 video of bargain deals when FA is over and we’re into spring training, I loved that video
Surprised you didn’t mention another one of the more successful “Prove It” contracts with Bartolo! Gets hurt in 09 as a 36 year old in Chicago with declining numbers. Misses ‘10 Signs with the Yankees as a 38 year old on a 1 year/900k deal for some potential rotation depth back when they were signing every past-their-prime former allstars (Eric Chavez, Andruw Jones, and Freddy Garcia were on this team!) Puts up decent enough numbers for Oakland to grab him on a 2 year deal, then the Mets for 3 and quickly becomes the Big Sexy that we all know and love today ❤
You are forgetting the one-year 1.5 million deal that brought Donovan Solano to the Rangers in my OOTP franchise... He hit .307 with 800+ OPS and ungratefully asked for 5+ millions on the next free agency
I was going to say, all I could think of when seeing Joaquin Benoit's face was that shot of his hands on his hips, looking like he stubbed his toe in the 2013 ALCS. 🤣
Jolly listen I love you and I love these videos. WHEN are we getting the MLB Power Pros retrospective? You keep using these songs I know you love the game LOL I gotta have it! Appreciate the content and keep up the hustle!!
Brandon morrow in 2017 had an awesome prove it year season. Then got a good little last paycheck with the cubs. He didn’t let up a single homerun until the playoffs. Where he let up two. And one in the World Series against the cheating stros. He also pitched all 7 World Series games
Beltre in HOF now gives me a big smile I think about 2010 year in a Red Sox uniform a lot and just see th green monster being peppered with baseballs ⚾️ hit by him
Shoutout to the Braves offering Lonnie Smith a 2 way prove-it deal for him at age 33 only for him to have the best season by bWAR of anyone in the NL his first full season with the team.
There’s 3 different ways you can pick off a runner on second. You can either step off and throw over, jump turn to the glove side to pick off, or do an inside move like Benoit did. On the inside move he’s bringing his leg up and over to the other side of the mound, without making an attempt to fool the runner by having his weight go to home before doing the inside move, which would make it a balk. And unlike picking off to first, he doesn’t have to throw the ball over, he just has to clear the mound and get his foot on the ground first.
Adrian Beltre is the king of contract year playing. I always thought he did steroids in 2004 because of that one incredible season, but after his excellent year in Boston, it was clear he was motivated by monetary incentives. By the way, Jollyolive, I bet you're happy with David Wright surviving the ballot his first year. I think at best he gets in 7th or 8th year and at worst, he gets elected via a Veteran's committee. He's pretty much a lock now, just depends if you have to wait 5 years or 50 years, but you'll get to see the day. I know he's your favorite player.
Does Josh Donaldson count? His career was basically over until he signed a one year contract with the Braves and looked like an MVP again. He used that season to get a big contract with the Twins. He sucked for them and the Yankees but he still got paid.
As a Detroit fan as soon as Benoit was first mentioned I knew exactly where this was going. I knew the clip of 9:19 was going to be shown or discussed before it was shown. Idc how good his numbers look on paper or back in hindsight, whenever Benoit took the mound every Detroit fan was on the edge of their seats...not in a good way
Charlie Morton signed a flyer with the Phillies, blew out his leg, signed another flyer, and is still around! I think he would be a great addition for a part 2!
great vid as always but why does the first part of the vid have music that sounds like I'm watching Family Matters and the rest sound like elevator muzak?
We need a full Joaquin Benoit video. I've always said that he's baseball's cautionary tale (an elite 2nd half of his career, but he's known for 1 total highlight in his entire career)
I never realized Beltre only made 4 ASGs, I always assumed he had at least one before Boston and was an AS almost every year with the Rangers 9:18 unsubscribed
the O's letting Cruz go was a classic Dan Duquette move. reference Clemens, Mo Vaughn, John Valentin..... "Nugenix" did wonders for Frank Thomas..... I always liked Scott Kazmir. he is one of those guys if he had stayed healthy and didn't lose his touch how great would he have been. seemed to always be a pain the backside for the Red Sox when he was with the Devil Rays. yes the Devil Rays.
Guys we’re still trying to replace Giambi, but what we can do is recreate him in the aggregate Billy: okay first player - Frank Thomas. He might be old but he gets on base a lot for someone that only cost $500,000
What about Kevin Gausman? He had a prove it deal with Atlanta. He won Comeback Player of the Year then signed a fairly good deal with the Giants. Right?
1. Adrian. What might’ve been. Sox should’ve signed him until 2017, kept Rizzo and stayed away from Gonzalez. They went after the wrong Adrian. 2. Benoit is a great immaculate grid pick. 3. My favorite Benoit pitch is that first pitch changeup to ortiz. I was in section 17 and it’s the greatest baseball moment I’ve been present for.
He had a really bad 2020 and between 2015-18, he hit below average so it’s very possible that 2019 was an outlier. He definitely had that 2019 ceiling, but he was not a sure thing, especially moving to a position that requires more hitting

The humor, the knowledge, the Power Pros tracks on the background...this channel has been a joy to discover over the past month, fantastic stuff!
With all of the Power Pros references, seeing a Jolly Olive Success Mode playthrough would be ELECTRIC
Makes me want to buy a wii and get power pros. Fucking loved that game
2020 Marcell Ozuna was a great prove it deal. Almost won the triple crown and parlayed his performance into a 4 year deal.
Oh yeah I know that guy he’s Marcell Ozuna from the Braves
Same with 2019 Josh Donaldson
He beat his wife...
Juan Gonzalez with Cleveland, 2001. Signed a one-year deal after turning down a mega-offer from Detroit. All-star in Cleveland, 5th in MVP, then went back to Texas.

Kevin Millwood with Cleveland, 2004. One year deal, won the AL ERA title, then signed a 5-year deal with Texas.
Josh Donaldson was a good "prove-it" deal with the Braves even if he didn't end up doing well afterwards.
Worked well for him, got 92 mil
He was playing well in Minnesota, but I think father time caught up with him.
Yeah, this was the first example that came to my mind as well.
Love the content Jolly! Great vid as always. As a Canadian I always love remembering what Marcus Simein and Robbie Ray did in 2021
My very first MLB game was Frank Thomas’s final career grand slam with the Blue Jays. Despite the fact that this is one of the more memorable highlights I’ve seen in person, I still have a hard time thinking about Frank in a Blue Jays jersey. 😂
I dont think anything gets me hype for baseball in the offseason like a Jolly Olive video. Great stuff
9:18 bro… why did I have to relive that 😭
Juan Gone with Cleveland was the ultimate one year deal for both the team and player
Anytime I see an old Mariners commercial in these videos it puts a smile to my face :)
I love the MLB Power Pros music.

No mention of Juan Gonzalez 2001? 1 year deal, 35 HR, 140 RBI
I really can’t believe this channel doesn’t have 100k subs yet. That criminal.
Jolly! Been watching you play!
Youre a great leader and good sport! Keep at it!! Happy for you
I’m totally fine with the Segway. It just shows how much thought you put into the vid. Keep up the good work man
Loved the video idea as well as the execution. Part 2 definitely needs to happen!
Just subscribed but been watching your videos for a while now one of my favorite baseball channels
I think Andrew Heaney’s 1-year deal with the Dodgers would be a good one for a potential part 2!
We NEED a part 2, Jolly.
Congratulations on soon to be 100K subs. Been here since 15 ish K. You deserve it
Brought back years of pain with that big papi HR😢
Jolly your videos make life better. Cheers

I remember that injury to Beltre. It was listed as "left testicle contusion". They specified left, like that was his throwing nut.
Beltre in HOF now gives me a big smile

I’m fairly new to baseball, and I know most of the rules, but can someone explain why the Benoit clip at 8:42 isn’t a balk?
There’s 3 different ways you can pick off a runner on second. You can either step off and throw over, jump turn to the glove side to pick off, or do an inside move like Benoit did. This is outside the timeframe here but Jack Morris with the 1991 Twins has to be #1 all-time by far, both from an individual and team pov
I think players are more motivated with these one-year deals. I hope there are more incentive based contracts.
Charlie Morton signed a flyer with the Phillies, blew out his leg, signed another flyer, and is still around! I think he would be a great addition for a part 2!
3 seconds in and I just know this video is going to bang.
