I'm amazed no one said Aaron Judge's rookie year in 2017. The main argument for Altuve winning the MVP that year was that Judge struck out too much. Judge has 208 Ks that year!
He set some sort of record for consecutive games with a strikeout in August during a big slump and I’m pretty sure that’s what lost him the MVP, Altuve was consistent throughout the year while Judge was not. You don’t have to agree with the logic that’s just what I think went through the voters heads.
@@sealeo5772 Yup. Half the top 10 career strikeout leaders are either in the Hall of Fame, will be there once they're eligible, or would be already there if not for steroids. Reggie Jackson (1) Jim Thome (2) Sammy Sosa (4) A-Rod (5) and Miguel Cabrera (6)
He still strikes out a ton. He's like never had a full season where he has less than 150. His only 2 seasons where he is under 150 were both in the 140ish range in just over 100 games played. That's still like a strikeout per game. He just hits 50 home runs and also has a .300 average so no one cares lol
Yeah although he was striking out like every 2 1/2 ABs in 2017 he still has struck out around every 3 to 3 1/2 ABs since then. Some improvement but still pretty bad.
Jolly with an all time fumble not naming mark Reynolds or Adam Dunn! Especially with how much he names Dunn in other drafts, this reverse thought prcoess was so fun.
As a Mariner's fan, I was going to be able to compete and fill a legit roster for this draft with just Mariner's. 2005 Richie Sexson was one that came to mind on top of all the recent years
yeah it would be caught stealing percentage with a minimum requirement. otherwise you get guys like Rickey Henderson, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Lou Brock, etc., that have a ton of caught stealings just because they stole a lot more back then
@@kristopherwilson506I was thinking this also. The stolen base draft was great and for the reasons you both gave, maybe it’s just the same players being picked again lol.
Miguel Sano's career didn't end because he struck out to much - it ended because he didn't do anything else. He chased worse than Baez and refused to learn otherwise, arriving to spring training saying he was going to hit 50 homers then using nothing but the Homer swing on every pitch. He never hit singles on purpose, the accidental singles dried up because of the chasing, and he never really walked enough but stopped walking at all. He consumed thousands of calories in alcohol weekly, ordered fast food daily, had multiple suspicious injuries that sounded like knife wounds, and got involved in suspicious incidents in DR such as hitting a cop with his car and allegedly abducting and beating a person. The strikeouts weren't a problem, his personality was.
Pitching losses, blown saves, errors are all easy ones. Alternatively, you could do a 'league average' draft for any + stat, where the lowest score wins and how ever many points you are away from 100 in either direction is how many points you get (i.e. OPS of 90 or 110 gets you 10 points)
@SisPackAbs it would be a pitcher only slot so it wouldn't matter if they had 1/5 the at bats. It would just be a cool thing to see and get some forgotten pitchers in the league. Especially if they do it with the team ones where once you pick a team it can't be picked again, you know if it was a HR draft mad bum or greinke would be picked so they would have to work around those teams alittle more plus than every team would be used since there's 27 used at this point which leaves 1 left for each guy
So much fun! I love the inverse stat draft idea. Funny to see like walks, errors, wild pitches, or something like that makes the guys think outside the box and see names we don't see a lot
What about a lineup draft inspired by the videos from Baseball’s Not Dead with the “Most valuable contracts” and “Least valuable contracts”. Just create a system to determine who has the best/worst overall group of contracts based on the contract value to the players production. It’s an interesting concept because instead of thinking for just one year you have to think about the money involved and the production over an extended period of time.
Just wanted to ask if you all could put the new draft videos in playlists? They were in the past which was very helpful, just hoping the total bases and any new ones can be in playlists too.
I feel like a fun draft would be a games played draft with a fun twist: fill out a starting nine WITH the pitching staff y'all draft. 17 players would be a fun draft. Some of the names that pop up in that draft could also be fun, with some everyday 2024 White Sox, terrible Royals starters, etc.
this should just be drafting the mariners over the last two years. they led the league in strikeouts last year then traded away teo and suarez to reduce their strikeout rate, only to be even worse this year
Not sure if you guys are looking for more ideas but an intriguing Pitcher draft would be; 8 pitchers, 5 starters, 3 relievers, you get the Starter wins and reliever(closer) saves
I’d love to see a one off on Wild Pitches, Hit batters, intentional walks issued and intentional walks received (both the intentional walks can be for the career.) This one I don’t know if it’s tracked but it should be. It work great as a series, Quality At Bats.
Home runs allowed pitchers draft? Or just high ERA + innings. I also like the idea of the host picking a year and the contestants then having to pick players from that one year
There were a few solid Astros picks before 2017. Lots of people claimed they went from the team with the most strikeouts to the team with the least because of their cheating but that’s not really true, most of the stats struck out at pretty much the same rate. It was dropping players like Chris Carter and Colby Rasmus and their higher strikeout guys not playing the full season for injuries and whatnot.
I think favorite world series for each franchise draft would be fun, especially if Rose could be involved. Could also have a rule to draft at least one of the best series for the franchises without a win
my lineup C 2017 Mike Zunino - 160 1B 2016 Mike Napoli - 194 2B 2021 Brandon Lowe - 167 3B 2013 Evan Longoria - 163 SS 2006 Jhonny Peralta - 152 OF 2014 B.J Upton - 173 OF 2017 Justin Upton - 180 OF 2002 Mike Cameron - 176 DH 2010 Matt Kemp - 170 TOTAL 1535 2nd place
Do a golf style draft where the lowest batter strikeouts win. Set a line that the batter has to have played at least 80 or 100 games in that season (this is to prevent players who got sent down or injured and only played a couple games) (However you could do that too and see who can name a prospect that played in one game and had one strikeout)
just gonna head over to bbref right now while I'm thinking about it so that I know which player to get mad about in the all-time strikeout draft in six weeks and I'll reiterate another comment I saw on one of these: babip draft! let's get weird with it
Shocked Javy Baez didn't get taken, although checking his BBRef he doesn't have as many as I thought (nothing over 200). He just has such a reputation for chasing pitches. Edit: Spoke too soon, I made the comment after all the shortstops were drafted cause I didn't think he'd get taken as a DH
Despite the apparent lack of upvotes (something I've never checked in my career as an infrequent youtube commentor), it seems like I struck a chord with my comment about Jolly and Ryan "hating each other." I feel seen! I didn't actually think they hated each other, but there was (and is occasionally) some obvious tension or discord there. Jomboy can break down the tape. I still don't think they actively hate each other, but the fact that they brought up the comment pretty much confirms there's something to my theory. It's ok. Some of my co-workers irk me too.
I'm amazed no one said Aaron Judge's rookie year in 2017. The main argument for Altuve winning the MVP that year was that Judge struck out too much. Judge has 208 Ks that year!
I thought of him but didn’t realize how much he had in 2017. I was thinking more recent when he’s had a couple 170 years.
Big G the year after too
He set some sort of record for consecutive games with a strikeout in August during a big slump and I’m pretty sure that’s what lost him the MVP, Altuve was consistent throughout the year while Judge was not. You don’t have to agree with the logic that’s just what I think went through the voters heads.
He prolly lost cause altuve is better :)
@ definitely had the better year overall and was more valuable to his team.
By the way, the best (worst) possible lineup shown at the end would have a combined wRC+ of 116 lol
Because if you strike out a lot while sucking, you don't stick around long enough to accumulate them.
Love these draft videos! Since Ryan hates pitcher wins so much you should do one of these drafts with most pitcher losses in a single season!
As a Mariners fan I will never understand the idea that Robinson Cano was bad with Seattle. He was worth every penny, had 4.5 awesome seasons for us
2017 Judge is the big one they missed, its awesome that he recovered on not being a strikeout heavy hitter later in his career
He still strikes out a ton. He's like never had a full season where he has less than 150. His only 2 seasons where he is under 150 were both in the 140ish range in just over 100 games played. but his chase and walk rates are just phenomenal

Never stop doing drafts!
this one is such a fun draft concept! Should do more of these!

Snakes legend, legally blind Mark Reynolds
if i don’t see any joey gallo i will be upset.

Caught stealing draft would be hilarious , but also maybe it's just who stole the most is also the most CS

@@kristopherwilson506I was thinking this also. The stolen base draft was great and for the reasons you both gave, maybe it’s just the same players being picked again lol.
I read the subject "Who can draft the worst lineup" and my immediate answer was Jolly
When Jolly said Ian Desmond, you gave him his 2011 Ks. In 2012, he only had 113. Luckily, it wouldn't have changed anything in the end.
Haven’t seen it yet but so pumped for this!!! Glad you listen to your fans
You should do a draft with least hits in a year combined with games played so they have to pick players who played a lot but also didn’t get many hits
Miguel Sano's career didn't end because he struck out to much - it ended because he didn't do anything else. Shout out cstate. Also no javy Baez until the end is crazy

this needs to be pinned!
Jolly singing Betty by Taylor swift when he hears cardigan that’s a real swiftie
Fascinatingly random shirt Ryan is wearing
what a great day for mariners representation
I want to see pitchers being added to these since there wasn’t a DH in both leagues for forever and a lot of you guys know that era of pitchers
They wouldn’t have enough plate appearances to be at the top they only played 1/5 games and often were taken out for pinch hitters after like the 6th
@SisPackAbs it would be a pitcher only slot so it wouldn't matter if they had 1/5 the at bats. It would just be a cool thing to see and get some forgotten pitchers in the league. @ oh yeah if it was a pitcher only spot it would work
So much fun! I love the inverse stat draft idea. Funny to see like walks, errors, wild pitches, or something like that makes the guys think outside the box and see names we don't see a lot
Two things to note as a Seattle fan:
1. Man it's been some sad few seasons with the potential that's there.
2. Man, Cal is SO good.
The amount of time Dalton takes to pick is actually impressive😂
That Javy Baez picture is diabolical

Desmond had 113 in 2012. He had 139 in 2011. Lucas looked at the wrong line on his baseball reference.

I’m so disheartened by Dalton saying Robinson Cano wasn’t good with Seattle. So so so sad :(
This was a really fun draft and the boys surprisingly actually did really well! No Judge though with his 200 in 2017.
If Mark Reynolds ain’t on here, I don’t know what we’re doing. Good job, Ryan 👍

The drafts are my favourite! Please keep them going!

Finally modern mariners got mentioned
Martin Maldonado getting selected in a draft was not what I expected
Been waiting for this category for so long
Unhinged in the best way. More ‘bad’ drafts!
Cohen has elite handwriting
Finally the one we’ve all been waiting for
OPS draft
Walks draft (pitcher and hitters separately)
DRS draft
MVP votes draft
HBP draft (career)
Errors draft
Let’s goo, amazing idea can’t wait
Yall should do a draft of players with the least amount of WAR in a season
Errors committed would be a fun draft!
Oh I would unintentionally do so good at this
Do a golf style draft where the lowest batter strikeouts win. do a walks draft! that, or an OPS draft in the same vein as the ERA draft -- track PAs like you did IPs
Why do people always say Robinson Cano was bad with the Mariners? 24 WAR in 4.5 seasons
Finally a draft with Mariners in it. Oh, wait..
173 strikeouts in 127 games is obscene. Literally cackling at my desk at 2013 Chris Davis.
just gonna head over to bbref right now while I'm thinking about it so that I know which player to get mad about in the all-time strikeout draft in six weeks
and I'll reiterate another comment I saw on one of these: babip draft! let's get weird with it
You could probably win this with a lineup full of mariners
Kris Bryant in his rookie year (2015) struck out 199 times. How did no one day Javier Baez??? 2021 Javy struck out 184 times
the only ones I could think of, no one picked LOL. Judge, Stanton, and Howard
Was hoping for a mention of three true outcome legend Jack Cust
Shocked Javy Baez didn't get taken, although checking his BBRef he doesn't have as many as I thought (nothing over 200). He just has such a reputation for chasing pitches.
Edit: Spoke too soon, I made the comment after all the shortstops were drafted cause I didn't think he'd get taken as a DH
This draft premise is amazing. Sacrifice hits next?
the RBI hit by pitch draft is gonna hit like crack
Jolly always knows good picks and just chooses not to pick them
You guys should snake pick the first 8 rounds and let the 9th round pick from last place to first pace.
It’d be cool if they did this but opposite, you want to draft players but have the fewest strikeouts, lowest number wins sorta deal
I saw the story of the record of this draft on Jolly’s story and called out what its was over a month ago lol
No one finds it insane enough that Trout led the league in ks and won an mvp in the same year
IT’S TIME
I tell you jokers every video that I want an errors draft
Can you guys please do a madden and or MLB fantasy draft?
How about Melvin Upton Jr dude struck out a ton. Once he left Tampa for Atlanta.
Javy Baez is finally my shortstop
THIS IS THE GOOD SHIT
Stanton 2018, first year with Yanks I’m surprised wasn’t taken
Hoping Dalton or Jolly pull the Chris Davis/Khris Davis combo.
This new subject is cool and all but where can I get Ryan’s shirt
How about drafting a Lineup of pitchers, but put each one at a different position?
I’m only 90 seconds in, but if no one takes Chris Davis after the 2013 season.. I’d be shocked
I better see Mark Reynolds, Adam Dunn, Joey Gallo, and Ryan Howard
I totally forgot about how bad Yoan Moncada was 😂😂😂
Wild Pitches, it’s time
This was so fun.
Justice for Ryan Howard
Immediately im thinking Mark Reynolds?

This was Danny Espinosa's best chance to get drafted
