Believe it or not, they’d actually be much less of a problem in the real world. Remember, humanity in Fallout has lost the majority of their technology and what little they do have is scavenged. We still have access to mass production, air support, armored vehicles, and a population count in the billions. Who needs energy weapons and power armor when we can send drones packed with some Vitamin E(xplode)?
Cant take the players actions as a good measure of canon. I dont think anyone could solo a Deathclaw in lore save for a ranger sniping or someone in power armor gunning it down at a distance and even then they better not miss
Brilliant flank by the smaller deathclaws at the 6:00 point. The legion is effective with stronger firepower at the back and recruits at the front, but if the back is destroyed, the front is unsupported. Without that back component, with it's support, the front is useless.
True, but doing that while wielding kitchen knives and pool cues like the Freeside thugs is even more ballsy - or just plain stupid and definitely suicidal.
I enjoyed this, but I will say Decanus are ncos in the Roman legion commanding on average 7 legionaries I notice the versus battle’s treat them as just like the next step stronger unit when they probably should be treated more like an NCO proportion of the force like it’s something that a unit should have and at the right ratio
Honestly, it would have been more entertaining to see how many legion recruits it would have taken. Having a bunch of high level legionaries with ranged weapons in a wide-open area feels a bit like cheating. I actually want to see a straight up numbers game of how many ordinary grunts with machetes it would have taken to do this.
@@riverman6462 They're really, REALLY not. Their entire social structure is built on a foundation of sand, and the whole edifice is teetering on the edge of collapse, held together only by Caesar's force of personality. They do stupid counter-productive shit all the time to prove their strength, like ordering decimations, or sending recruits on suicide missions with the goal of "weeding out the weak." The Legion is driven and strong, but far from smart. NCR is the opposite. They are smart and sophisticated, but so weak-willed and demoralized that they never really manage to use their smarts effectively.
I think it makes sense to add higher tier Legion units once you have a certain number of recruits. That would fit the description of the First Battle of Hoover Dam and, arguably, the general logic of the Legion (low tier cannon fodder in front, better units coming up behind them). However, I think it would better reflect a likely Legion attack to have added more recruits, then for every 10-15 extra recruits, add 3-5 higher tier units (the higher the tier, the fewer units), then add even more recruits before you start adding more higher tier units. Thus, you would end up with a pyramid of a few of the top tier units, more of the mid tier units and a whole load of recruits.
@@rmartinson19 I’m not sure I would call the NCR at the time of Fallout New Vegas particularly smart as an organisation. Looking at the two most senior representatives, President Kimball and General Oliver, I don’t really get the impression that they’re either especially smart or sophisticated. Sure, the NCR is not trying to crush absolutely everyone, while betraying and enslaving all who side with them, as seems to be the Legion approach, but the precariousness of the NCR in the Mojave and the dissipation of its forces is entirely by its choice (trying to chase too many rabbits at once). Similarly, the bargain the NCR has struck with House also seems either extremely short term oriented, or outright stupid. Especially allowing it to continue to drain their already stretched resources, compounded by the obvious corruption and using poorly equipped and trained recruits as cannon fodder (as per the complaints from the former NCR trooper turned arms merchant). Then add the fact that the NCR’s current, pig headed, militarist and omnidirectional expansionist policies have managed to sideline and alienate its one proven, smart military leader in the Mojave, Ranger leader Hanlon, to such an extent that he is actively trying to sabotage their efforts, and something doesn’t exactly scream “brilliant and sophisticated” to me.
