      RUclips creators are not all professionals, a common thing many of us have forgotten. They are mostly sales people giving a review. The monitor market is a good place to confuse others. Honestly the G7 32 inch from Samsung does allot compared to most Uber expensive monitors. The OLEDs though do look impressive but I notice no difference in performance compared to other monitors except for brightness.

      @@alexsp7086 ok admittedly getting it setup properly on windows 11 is borderline a nightmare as you need several external tools but the BEAUTY of 32:9 is that you can put your forced 16x9 game in windowed mode, and still have room for youtube and discord to the right and to the left of it, with a 21:9 the space to right / left is too small to feel meaningful hence you just live with the black borders, but the extra space, ultimately if used right turns your 16x9 gaming into a tripple monitor setup.
      but yes on windows 11 will you be needing a lot of extra tools to not fight the startbar all the time, on windows10/ Linux KDE this isn't a problem at all.
      so I will agree with @chielscape 32:9 is a massive selling point even if you don't use it for professional coding/artsy work

      Yeah, this guy sounds like he's never used a 1440p monitor before. They're the perfect sweetspot between clarity and performance. Until I upgraded to a 4090, I had to set most games to 1440p on my living room PC while it was running on a 4k screen using a 3090. 1440 vertical is perfect for the next couple of generations.

      5120x1440 you sometimes run into scaling issues, but if your looking to drop 2K+ on a monitor like that, you likely have a use case for it. Say hybrid work and gaming.
      I've settled on a 48" 4k OLED with 2 1440p 32"s above it and my old 3440x1440 vertical down the side. At work I have a 5120x1440 and 2 1440p 32"s above it. Productivity to the moon!

I have the original Neo g9 and it was a fantastic upgrade over my 21:9 LG I had before. I play FF14 and 32:9 is a dream for it. Yea 16:9 games like Street Fighter 6 for instance only utilize the center of the monitor but thats ok as long as you know what you are getting yourself into. The only thing I've wanted is an OLED version, and this is it.
    Not all games do support it, but the ones that do are great, and the fact I can split it up is really nice.
    Also These support PBP so I can have my work computer plugged in, and have it act as a 21:9 monitor, and my actual computer set up on a smaller 11:9 section on the side so I can work on them side by side. I can also set them to both be 16:9. There are no bezels and its very clean to have a single monitor.

    32:9 makes more sense to me than 21:9. At least with 32:9 you can split it into two full 16:9 displays for most use and then use the full thing for games that support it. I wish I could get it, but to me I just can't go back from 4K. I have really good eyes and am incredibly sensitive to lower resolutions. With OLED I've noticed I'm also very sensitive to the moire effect which looks a lot like the matte display snow flaking look. Really wish more OLED displays just used a normal sub pixel layout like the Switch OLED does.

    • @Faine212
      @Faine212 Год назад

      Wouldn't the OLED sub pixel layout weirdness be less noticeable at higher resolution monitors? And also apparently it'll look way better when these new Oled sub pixel matrixes get supported by Microsoft Cleartype. Which apparently is in the works. it'll make all the text look normal. Part of why it looks off today is because software or operating systems aren't optimized for it.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 Год назад

      @Faine212 well 1440p isn't really that high res for OLED, at least except LG. This issue is Samsung for example uses the pentile layout so there pixels are less defined as each set shares something from another, usually green. Even if they added clear type that still wouldn't fully solve it.
      And moire from odd sub pixels is in a similar boat. Some people are less sensitive to it than others but when you can see it it looks almost like the anti reflective coating on matte displays, the snow flaked fuzzy look. Again seems to be more an issue with Samsung's displays for a similar reason. It'll still have qualities better than LCDs, but these extra issues wouldn't exist if it just had a standard sub pixel layout like the Switch OLED.

    • @Faine212
      @Faine212 Год назад

      @@Skylancer727 What if the display was 4K 16:9? Also I wonder why they didn't go for a regular sub pixel layout

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 Год назад

      @Faine212 I mean, 16:9 wouldn't change anything. 4K on the other hand would limit these effects from being noticeable. As for why not a standard sub pixel layout, from my understanding its a carry over from mobile displays where cerulean colors wore out faster than others and therefore needed unique sizes.

    • @Faine212
      @Faine212 Год назад

      @@Skylancer727 Well when I said 16:9 I meant as in full 4K pixel per inch and no tomfoolery from marketing as the person in the video mentioned. So if they changed to RGB wouldn't there still be the issue of cerulean colors wearing out faster? Or did the technology improve to the point where it's not needed however they're cutting costs by using an already existing and common manufacturing setup for sub pixels on Oled. Yeah the Switch Oled I remember hearing is the normal sub matrix and it seems to have an incredibly long display life with not much burn-in or artifacts. But maybe the manufacturers currently can't do it that way for much smaller sub pixels A.K.A. higher resolution Oled displays. Just a thought

  • @socialreport999
    @socialreport999 Год назад +10

    It's not true that apart from racing games, it's bad. Almost in any game, it looks noticeably better than 21:9 or 16:9. There are some distortions on the edges of the display due to the field of view (FOV), but in reality, you don't pay attention to that problem because those edges are too far away from the eyes. However, it still provides immersion regardless. Very immersive, next to VR (just after it).

      @@oscarfernandez2127 unless the game artificially prevents you from going with higher aspect ratios, you won't have a problem for most 3d games as they using a transformation matrix that's directly computed from the aspect ratio. Like, there's quite literally 0 works for devs to support the game on different aspect ratios (And UI would also not really be an issue since you only get more horizontal screen size - which doesn't cause great impact on UI look - compared to a 16:9 1440p for example).
      The only thing to cause issues is if you made a game whose gameplay itself is very centered around 16:9, but from a development perspective there's no extra work. On top of that, I use a 21:9 and while I admitely don't play many games, the ones I did had to issue with 21:9 and if they do, you can just set it to 16:9 anyways and the worst thing you get is vertical black bars on the sides which is very big meh.

Worst case scenario you set your screen to Picture By Picture mode and you can play it in 16:9 if it’s that big of an issue to you. I’ve never had to do it though

If I wanted to run that res at high framerates I would need a 4090 at least and that alone will cost almost twice as much as the screen let alone all the other hardware I need to run a 4090 (beefy power supply, powerful CPU etc). 5160x1440 is plenty for me in 2024. Maybe in 2030 I will think about 7680x2160.

EVE is a game with tons of UI that can be cumbersome on a smaller display, and the game is gorgeous, it is perfect for this monitor. A friend of mine just bought this monitor and I've been thinking of upgrading to it for a while as well. I've been using the first gen Odyssey G9 for about two years now and it's good to know that none of your points against the monitor anything specific to this model. 1440p is absolutely fine for 49" (remember this is equivalent to two 27" 16:9 monitors side by side) in my opinion and I don't see a benefit to 4k, especially since desktop apps don't always scale well with 4k (I know from my media PC that's connected to a 4k TV).
    The only drawback I hear from this is the glossy finish, which while it does mean livelier colors, might mean issues with glaring on my desk, because unfortunately I sit with a window behind me and even with the matte finish, it sometimes reflects and focuses sunlight in my eyes like a parabolic mirror 😅
    But even that problem is easily fixed by a white fabric roller blind, which softens the sunlight like a diffuser on a lightbox.
    The issues with bad widescreen support, zou learn to deal with. Many modern games support it, which is an awesome experience, and the games that don't, you either tinker with to make them work, or you simply play them in their standard resolution. Even the black bars on the Odyssey with an LCD don't distract in a dark room and for the odd game that stretches wide on the display, you can switch to HDMI (mirror mode), which may not suppirt the full refresh rate, but can automatically (and manually, if needed) adjust the display size to the correct aspect ratio. I recommend using two inputs from your GPU anyway, to make use of the great dual-monitor productivity in picture by picture mode.

Hooking your laptop up to the montior should not reduce the refresh rate in the least, but if you're talking about maintaing a certain FPS in a game then that will depend on your comptuer itself, a reduction in graphcis quality may be needed to maintain a steady 240 FPS.

    So essentially, the video is reviewing game development issues in relation to ultrawide compatibility? Cos ofc not all games are compatible with ultrawide.
    For others that got here as their first foray into their research, I just treat this as a dual monitor in one since my setup only allows one cable to my desk and the other is hdmi to my tv for gaming. Use Fancy Zones to allocate the correct spaces to utilize all the screen real estate if you don't want to have borders and useless space. Also, I was convinced enough when I looked into a list of games that DO support ultrawide, so at the end of the day, the questions are (1) how to play in 16:9 if possible (yes it is) and (2) are there games I play that support ultrawide (chances are yes there are). So if you're in the market and your desk can fit one, it's a good option to have, especially also for productivity work.
