  • This video is about how to fix outlook keeps on asking for username and password and cannot connect to Gmail.
    Reasons and Fix for Microsoft Outlook keeps on asking for username and password:
    Outlook Can not Connect to Gmail | Keeps Asking for Password | For Two-Step Verification Users
    1. You have DENIED ACCESS TO LESS SECURED APPS IN GOOGLE ACCOUNTS SETTINGS.
    FIX: Allow access to less secured apps in your google account settings.
    2. You are using TWO-STEP VERIFICATION METHOD TO GET LOG IN TO YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT. In this condition, your normal Gmail login password is not going to work here in outlook
    FIX: You need to generate app password for mail client in your Google accounts and that password will be used herein outlook.
    You might receive following Errors also because of above issues :
    1) Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Please log in via your web browser:
    2) Log onto incoming mail server (IMAP): The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or internet service provider (ISP).
    3) Send test e-mail message: Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your username and password for this account in Account Settings.
    This is most common Error Which is faced while setting up Gmail in Outlook in Countries like USA, UK, and Others.
    All above-mentioned issues will be solved If you will go through this video.

    After spending hours looking for a fix to that issue, I found your video. I made the change in Google settings you described in the first scenario and now have access to Email in Outlook 2007 again. I think the reason I lost the ability to get Email was because I got a message from Google saying that they blocked a sign-in attempt. I clicked on "SECURE YOUR ACCOUNT" which changed the Email setting to deny access to less secure apps. Thanks for your posting.

    Dude!!! This makes so much sense. A simple solution to a confounding problem. Thanks for simplifying my life and helping me to use Outlook again. You ROCK!!!! Also thanks for telling me the problem up front, so I didn't need to watch the entire video to fix it.

    Outlook 2013 suddenly started having this problem with AOL mail in July 2021. The in app password solved the problem. Thank you so much! Could not find anything on Microsoft and AOL websites that provieded any help to resolving this.

    Dude you saved my life! I had this problem for weeks in my personal email account. i looked everywhere, even asked my geek friends! no one could fix this! it was a simple click exactly where you said! i don't know how my outlook got corrupted but my other IT guy said cuz i didn't turn my laptop off much, the memory and other progs gets screwed up, which was right, because before this error, i couldn't do a search in my outlook 2007 and got indexing errors, which i could not fix! and then he told me to turn off my laptop and reboot...duh, which i thought i did and reset the settings in outlook and it worked! so i am a happy camper. i was so upset that i had to use gmail, which i dont like i rather use outlook, easier to find stuff! So thank you so much, I subscribed, and will tell my teenage son to subscribe. he's a geek, but doesn't use outlook! lol you did a great job for me at no cost! I'm forever grateful.! may I add this: i even re-installed outlook and spent like 15 hours trying to fix this. i don't know how your vid came up but today, I am glad it did! I knew we could resolve this, i just had to dig a little deeper. so great!

    Harish: I literally have just spent 2 1/2 hours trying to get rid of that pop up screen. I corrected it using the first reason: disabled apps to less secure apps. It fixed immediately. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video. It really helped me.

    Dear Harish, Bless you for creating this video. It fixed the most annoying problem ever conceived by Google. Although your video is from 2016 and it is now 2020, your information is still accurate, but it took a little digging to find the relevant settings now that Google has moved some things around. If you ever need something to do, could you please make a new video with the newer look? Thank you!

    Thanks, worked for me. Was driving me crazy. My setting were all fine. The only thing I changed recently was my Google password. I actually had to apply the 2 step verification to get a password and make Outlook work again.

    I lost access to gmail via Outlook 2007 about 6 weeks ago, now it's fixed. I feel CERTAIN google did this deliberately.

    Here is what worked for me: Go to Tools, Account Settings,Log on Information, change User Name and Password. Go back to Outlook press Send / Receive, if it works go back and delete old Logon:-)

    Thank you for your help! I hate Google! They thought someone else accessed my account and forced me to turn on 2-Step Verification. It locked me out of my Outlook for the better part of a day and then screwed up another Gmail account I had. Ugh!

    Harish, one question though...should I unclick that now that its fixed, cuz its saying this:
    Google will continue to block sign-in attempts from the app you're using because it has known security problems or is out of date. You can continue to use this app by allowing access to less secure apps, but this may leave your account vulnerable.
    is my computer still vulnerable leaving that unchecked? thanks again,.

      You can enable "two step verification method" to get login to Gmail from google settings.Don't forget to register and verify your mobile number berfore that. bcoz after this when so ever you will login google will send you verification code on your number.
      here is trick now, Now you need to generate app password for your mail client from google settings and that password will be used here in outlook to setup gmail as your gmail login password(App password ).

    This video is very clear with great instruction but I seem to have a different version of windows as the account settings on my google page are different. I was able to find a different route to get to the "signing in to google" but the toggle for allow less secure apps is not there. Any suggestions?

      Update, I just did a search in google key wording allow less secure apps and found it! Great instruction, thanks again! So happy to have this finally resolved!
