    One underrated thing about Marcel Jacobs is his ability to maintain composure and stay calm under pressure. He keeps his running form very well. I tell my athletes I train … you only have to win 1 event in your life .. the Olympic Final … ( I literally showed my athletes how it’s possible to qualify and get to the Olympics by coming second!) …. If you win that final … EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING else is irrelevant ( world records, rankings etc). Go ask any athletes in any sport ( where the Olympics is the Pinnacle ) …. If they would give back everything they have ever won just for that Gold Medal … and all serious athletes will give the same answer.. yes. Once you have won one Olympic gold … that is it you can retire ( sure if you want to win more medals that up to you). Understand what an Olympic Gold in athletics means … On the day it counted, against the best in the World , where everyone has trained specifically for that race … you won.. you ARE the best in the world. Full stop, no excuses, no arguments nothing… It doesn’t matter if Marcel Jacobs never runs a race in his life again … He has an Olympic Gold medal in the 100m! There are ONLY 10 men still alive today that can say that! There are only 9 Countries that have ever won gold in the 100m in the History of the Olympics USA, South Africa, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, USSR, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Italy!!! Let that just sink in for a while !

    There are a lot of talk about Jacobs on the internet. For me, he is a superb runner and no "one hit wonder". He won the Olympics in both 100 and the relay, the indoor world championship in 60 meter, the European Championship in 100 meter, so with this record of achievements we have to view him as a very successful sprinter. In Oslo this year, it still doesn't look perfect technically for him. In this race it also looks like he's limping if you look carefully. We'll see if he manage to get everything in order to the Olympics. With Paolo Camossi as a coach he reached very good results. Now his coach is Rana Reider. Future will tell if Reider is the right guy for Jacobs. I'm not sure about that. But as I said, future will tell.

    • @Hengel_Andrews
      @Hengel_Andrews 4 месяца назад +6

      It wasn’t a fluke, Carl Lewis. However he got the perfect storm like Carl Lewis. The problem is he’s not running 9.7s in an era where 4 guys run that time. Two of those guys bookend his 1 championship win (Kerley and Coleman). He hasn’t beaten either of those guys since. In any 60m race he’d not be seeded over Coleman and Lyles. With the emergence of Lyles and Oblique only he’s not time seeded, he’s area seeded vs Zharnell Hughes.
      Bolt has changed the metric for greatness by winning 3 Olympic 100m finals. There was a time when winning one was enough to cement your legacy and I think Jacobs’ legacy is cemented. He beat all-comers!

One time though, I came into an argument with a guy on the internet about an expression he used, and just out of curiosity I took our argument to a english speaking professor in the english language at Stockholm University. And that time he confirmed my suspicion and gave me right in the matter we were discussing. There was simply more to it than my adversary realized. It's hard but he can win! He started with 9.94 SB in 2021 and 6.47 at 60m indoor. In 2024 he didn't run indoor running 9.92 SB. He potentially goes to the PB depends how run in the heats and SF, if he arrives wasted in the final...but he is one of the potential winners. The others showed bad timing to be healthy, to lead the peak of form exept lyles,de grasse, (coleman so and so..kerley so and so, simbine, omanyala so and so). He has been a fragile athlete all his carreer, since when he was in long jump (which he left cause of injuries). He looks good again, but not in the same shape, and he kept having a lot of issues that didn't allow him to train as well as he needed to. I hope I'm wrong thou.

He came and ran the fastest time in the most high pressure race - no one who should have been there was missing and no one high profile pulled up injured. He also ran 9.84 in the semis and 9.8 in the final - no human being alive can fluke a 9.8 let alone twice - you run those times because of the work you have put in.

    Jacobs is a 9.9 runner who, for literally one calendar day in 2021, became a 9.8 runner. And he picked a great day to do it! Does that make him a fluke? Well, being a 9.9 runner is pretty darn good. But was him winning the Olympic title an outlier? Clearly. Is he a historically great 100m runner? No. Does that mean he's a fluke? I guess it depends on how you define the word. But I'm not sure it really matters at the end of the day. You ain't taking his titles from him. And he has more than most people.

I respect Noah's 19.31 all day and that put him in a all time great status but if you not in the 9.7 you are not a sprint God. I hear this saying of you can't take away a championship and I agree but you can't compare classes either and you can't take away that either. Flo Jo isn't Alive to compete for awards but times is what gives you God status. Every athlete that has been bellow 9. 80 is a God in my opinion. Gatlin is a guy who has done it so much. Gatlin did 9.85 as a 35 plus year old and that is sick. Placed 2nd to a youngest in the world championship. That was amazing at that age. I don't respect 9.8 and above on the Olympic and World championship level at all anymore. Fuck champions.
