A 100% increase on a $10K appearance is $20K, not a $100K.
That's what I was thinking too, must be that he made a mistake
I was about to say, that math isn't matching 😂
He meant 1000%
right, dude needs to go back to elementary school to complete that level
hahahahahaha, Bearded Dude is not too smart.................
Bolt deserved at least a million per appearance fee in his heyday! #FACTS
BROTHER HAD PERSONALITY! STRIDE! PACE! SPEED! CHARISMA!
Bolt made over a 100 million USD from 2008 to 2017 and still making money lol
He sold tickets
Compared to the ridiculous amount of money elite footballers are getting, elite athletes need to be shown similar respect.
When track makes the amount of money Football does then the athletes will get more money
Only Usain ever pulled $100,000 + per race as appearance fees consistently. I am not convinced the world respects how difficult it is to be a track athlete.
fr
At one point he was getting paid 1 Million per race.
Carl Lewis had appearance fees of $250,000 and that was in the 80's. Michael Johnson and Donovan bailey had the race where they each got $500,000 with an additional $1m for the winner. Johnsons regular fee was over $100,000 for meet appearances.
@@Thermolizer Bolt’s fees were consistently higher than those you just listed and for longer periods. No one comes close to Bolt. No one.
@@jayr6839 Bolt had the highest but the comment said he was the only one who made over $100k consistently which is false
Athletes should also focus on Branding themselves and telling their STORY more. This would help them build a community that
they can then monetize with Merch and affiliate deals etc. Its just the nature of the times where we all have to find our niche
Athletes have a lot going for them as far as building a personal brand, and a global email list that can then be monetized to
help support their journey. I see no reason Jamaican athletes shouldn't be selling sea moss, soursop leaves, black castor oil etc.
with a simple shopify store, social media accounts, and a Marcus Garvey self-reliance state of Mind. Bless
It's hard to train like they do and get branding skills. Basic Instagram habits are all they can manage.
Letsile Tebogo still works on a farm!!! And he's the second fastest man out there at the moment.
@@humanstation8193 Fair points indeed. I agree that everyone can't be Shacarri so then what else can we do?
Just like one would have an attorney to look over contracts, one should have a social media marketing and brand building strategy.
Start with a small agency, maybe a family member or friend and reinvest in building the Brand as you grow and make money.
This is really up to the creativity and hunger of the individuals involved. You have to first want more and believe its possible.
You can't force Ambition on people. Bless
Appreciate the transparency on all these things. 🔥
Thank you guys. This info is very important to know
This is a major reason for the disconnect between some fans and some athletes. Fans just want everybody to be at every race. Business wise, it doesnt necessarily make sense for stars to race when there's no money involved and nothing to race for
Justin was on Asafa's podcast recently it was a very refreshing , reflective and informative sit down
I am loving the fact that Justin gatlin has a podcast
6'5 Human that destroyed World Records deserve 1 million.
Watched every race that usain ran from 2015 so I can agree with his demand.. the day the 100m races are run at olympics and world championsip were sold out before the others because of him
The most popular sport races are short on time and up to 4 minutes long. These races require that immediate or timed burst of energy, the race is near immediately over leaving only the avid satisfied. Sponsors risk-reward ratio never gives enuf trajectory exponentially that lifts the sport to the next $ level outside of the Olympic year; the sport valleys every 4 years. It's always been difficult for $ to follow the sport. Still my favorite sport!
Michael needs to have Justin & Usain on his team
Bolt is too busy to do podcasting. Maybe for one episode 🤷♂️

Nice show and podcast name Justin
Bolt can still get 20k for appearance and not suit up.
Bolt would at least get 500k now if he decided to get out of retirement. The stadium would be packed.
I know for sure meet organizers paid bolt to use his name in advertising knowing full well he wouldn't actually run because he was injured. Bolt fill stadium. Simple
Taxes is normally high in some countries.😢
It’s about your celebrity and ability to draw a crowd. They try to make track athletes too humble and have too much sportsmanship. Let them talk trash leading up to events like boxers and build anticipation… if the times aren’t there that day the rivalry is… you might not get a record every meet, but seeing people trash talk before during and after the races would be something to see!
Track is just one of them sports that does not pay great period
Love how Bolt keep them thinking! That is how it should be ;)
That quarter of a million might be income through advertising, branding and sponsorship, if that's true then for each appearance Bolt could only get 20 thousand. I think the ticket prices were increased by 100% to 200%.
250k for Bolt appearing at an event during his peak years is a lot "cheaper" than what Michael Jordan could get today.
A retire Michael Jordan brand is more expensive than Usain Bolt at his peak.
This is weird to me .
MJ retired in 2003, I heard through my local TV years ago it would cost
$2 million to bring Michael Jordan to a show oversea, outside of plane and accommodation costs such as suite hotel and travel cost.
I think Noah Lyles known about this that's why he "touch" the NBA about
" World champion of what ! "
I remember that North Korea wants to invite MJ but then they chose Dennis Rodman over Michael Jordan. It could be about the cost gap between Jordan and Rodman.
Yeah ....Michael Jordan
He said 100% increase in appearance fee!
🙏🙏🙏
Gatlin speaking on other people but he wont tell about himself
Smart man

IRS WATCHING
@@Drewb187yet here you are on his page so what does that make you? An envious man.
@@trackgrad08 I guess you think you made a point huh? Because his video popped up on my feed? Spare the dumb questions and go read a book.
How much did you get gatlin?
Good question he's been smart enough to avoid even bringing it up. I love his podcast still very informative and down to earth.
If you run 9.58 100m you deserve the money and you make the rules..
More talk like this plz. Justin could you disclose what some of your appearance ranges were? And other "lane fillers"?
At $350k for Bolt, I don't see how the math adds up for the meet director. Take tomorrow's Stockholm Diamond League for example: Tickets are avg $50usd. Capacity is 15,000. That's $750k topline revenue if they sellout. Plus broadcast rights which aren't much more.
If you're dumping $350k into 1 athlete... You haven't paid any flights or hotels for any of the other 110+ athletes. Let alone their appearance fees. You haven't paid their $300k prize purse. Stadium rental. Event staff. Marketing. That's a losing equation from a meet standpoint....
What you say makes sense
Paying $350k for Bolt would have to be a long term branding play for the meet and also Bolt doing sponsor appearances
You've forgotten the most important thing: the bulk of the money comes from advertising, broadcasting, not the (small) stadium crowds!
At Rome Olympic Stadium holds 80,000 people they could only get 20,000 people to go easier but they pay Bolt €300,000 and 50,00 people turn up,the gate revenue was €2,000,000 million alone ,add TV rights and advertisements the meet organisers were actually saying BOLT was worth the money because advertisement money was even more than the ticket sales
Try this!
ADVERTISING!
BRANDING!
IMAGE RIGHTS!
NOT JUST PHYSICAL BUT DIGITAL!
ALSO MERCHANDISING! SPONSORSHIP! ETC
Free your mind! 350k for bolt was he having mercy on them!
I think Truck and Phil at least should pay more but if you win the gold the Olympic gold I think your appearance fee should be more because you have a gold medal beside your name, but I don’t think everyone should get the same amount of money. Remember you went to Med and you come to a track and field race you gonna draw more fans to the game so that’s more money right there like you Balt should make more money but not everyone
Mr Atkinson, I hope you dont come from Jamaica with your eeeediat self that cyah write a coherent sentence. Please tell me you dont come from Jamaica.
Depending on the EVENT...Gatlin is absolutely right...if you win oly.pic gold in the 100.....appearance fee is shooting thru the roof....ive always said in order to make real money in track you have to be top 10 in the world in the 100m specifically..... most other events do t really pay like that...unless youre the marquee name and doing something crazy (sydney, mondo)
You have experience with this? Legit question. No disrespect.
But....wouldn't it depend on how effective your agent is at negotiating
Both. But with maturity and time, the athlete knows their worth...and knowing their price.
Bolt was getting 350k per race.
That one of the reason he doesn't like to run England because of high tax
There was a point in time when he was getting A million dollar per race.
He didn't run in Britain because HMRC wanted to tax him based on earnings outside of Britain. Not just what he made in running Britain. Most of Bolt money was probably made in England. He had so many ads in England. Even more than he had in Jamaica. He even got the HMRC to make and exception so he could run Birmingham diamond league
@@manybooms2067 He didn't ask for that exemption they made it for him because of the spectators demand.
and that's what lewis didn't do.... cause the thought His stuff didn't SINK!
How much are our humble Kenyans attracting? Many can't even construct an English sentence. Then our Ethiopian sisters compared to Sha Carri Richard???

This programme is essential for demystifying the sport. I've been a fan of Athletics (T&F) since a kid and it's always been hard to see the meets let alone find out about behind the scenes stuff. I pieces together this week's Diamond League thanks to RUclips. Even the Diamond League RUclips doesn't cover well enough. It's really embarrassing. Re. Michael Johnson, he's always been so cagey, aloof and uncommunicative when it REALLY MATTERS. Great pundit but does that translate to business? If you're not communicating your jazz and why it's better for athletes already then why are we gonna be interested 2 maths ahead of the Olympics???
Some serious questions have to be asked about who gets to say what .
Gatlin is a 100m Gold Medal 🏅 and 🥈 Medal 100m legend and humble enough to put out the pertinent questions.
My comment is to support and provoke some questions that others may also be considering.
Mainly how the hell we can SEE the sport LIVE and without having to spend hours on a computer.
Best Regards
