You can wrap that gorilla pod around branches when needed as well 😉
Yes you absolutely can :-)
That’s exactly what I’m using for all my cooking videos. My iPhone. It’s what I have and it’s easy and quick too. I have a cheap mic that works very well. A ring light when I need more light and a tripod. Even for outdoors it’s perfect. I’m happy and it’s so easy for me and thanks Rob as usual.
Sounds like you've got everything you need!! Best of luck with it all! :-)

There are so many channels out there but yours is my absolute favorite. It is so uplifting and helpful. Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
I agree :)
"It doesn't have to be perfect, it's the message". Thank you Rob. Taking notes here :)
No problem! Thanks for watching :-)
Probably my first 40 videos were made with my iPhone, it's perfectly usable...just start!
Thanks for sharing! I totally agree :-)
I believe your videos are the ones I pay most attention to, as I'm over, way over, 40 (which steered me to your videos when I first started), and I'm constantly trying to decide what content is best for me. I'm still way behind in figuring out what content I want to cover, and that's probably my biggest concern and consternation. But love your videos.
Remember this... whatever type of content you finally decide to make videos on, will likely change once you get into it and start taking cues from your audience. It really doesn't matter that much what you start with... the most important thing is that you start. Best of luck with it!! :-)
Rob, excellent lighting and video A few questions: 1) did you use a filter? It would act like sunglasses on such a sunny day and your color is great. 2) do you prefer 30 FPS vs 24? 3) your audio is also excellent. You have a wireless transmitter on your shirt does that mean you have a receiver attached to your phone via a lightning cord? You are a great resource.
Thank you :-) I did not use a filter, but did add a little saturation in editing. Yes I prefer 30 fps... just a little smoother than 24 fps. I understand 24 fps is a more cinematic look and I have done videos at 24 fps but I'm just used to 30 fps I guess... I don't really have a good reason for it lol! Yes I have the wireless DJI Mic transceiver plugged into my iPhone (see link in my description below). Apparently I can walk up to 800 ft away, but I haven't tried that. But also if the audio ever does cut out, the mic has onboard storage that I can use as a backup if required :-)
I'm team android (Samsung Galaxy), but agree, phones have come a long way and are a terrific tool to use if need be.
Absolutely!! Cheers :-)
You’ve maybe told us before but do you film with the camera in portrait position or landscape or does it not matter.
When I’m watching your videos on my phone they appear landscape automatically which looks good
I always film in landscape mode :)
Thanks for the video which of the iPhone lenses are you using? I think with the iPhone 16 and the 24 megapixel wide angle lens, keeping yourself in frame will be super easy.
I'm using the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the main 48 MP wide lens (1x). I can try to use the Ultra-wide lens (0.5x) which would certainly show more of the background and my surroundings... but would likely result in some distortion at the edges. I should try it though! Thanks for commenting :-)
Great video! I agree - the "flashy" stuff is not needed for those of us way over 40! :-)
Exactly :-) Thanks for watching!
I completely agree with your statement that you should get rid of the friction and make things simpler for yourself. My conclusion might however be slightly different. You went to this specific location to film this video and you did that on a time when there is good lighting and the weather is good, etc. However, in the winter, in the dark, this might not be such a good location. So, if you have your homestudio, where you can easily switch on the studio lights, when you know there is no wind noise, no snow, no rain, perfect audio with a good microphone. Good video with a good camera. I would say that a video from your studio is easier and does not have to be edited, if you don't want that. So, what is the real benefit of making a video here instead of in your chair in your studio? Your most successful video was made in your studio.
I will make a point this winter to go to this location when it’s covered in snow :-) In fact, the lighting should be better because the sun will be lower in the sky and snow on the ground is a natural reflector. I agree that in my office we have full control over lighting, camera on a tripod and the set is controlled… makes for a nice consistent look. But it’s also nice to be able to make videos outside without much hassle. Thanks for commenting :-)
Sorry I didn’t answer your question… the benefit of making a video outside depends. I’m not saying it’s better to make a video outside than inside, m merely to fearing it as an option and if that’s an option that works for someone then I offer a way you can do that relatively easily. Also, sometimes it’s good to change things up and make videos in different locations… audiences sometimes like that variety. So for those who’d like to make videos outside, I show them how to do it. But I totally understand it’s not for everyone. I hope that makes sense! :-)
It’s nice to see the outdoors in people’s videos. I think it also encourages those of us who don’t have all the special equipment or a suitable place to film from in our homes.
I can understand that you sometimes want a different location, and you live in a very beautiful place, and it is certainly worth the effort to show it to us. You also made a good point that you don't need fancy equipment to make a great video. You nearly always have your phone with you and also that mic is small enough to put it in your pocket.
Still, when it comes to making it easy for yourself then a small home studio is probably the easiest way to record yourself. You already have perfect lighting because you already have set that up. You have perfect audio. Your frame is exactly where you want to have it, etc. So, the only thing that you have to do is switch on the lights, switch on the camera and press the record button. Everything you need to do to start recording takes roughly 10 seconds at the most. You can do that without much effort, even when it is raining or snowing outside and it is dark. Of course this can also be done with an iPhone because an iPhone is just a type of camera.
One of the main reasons I like a home studio so much is because it is so easy. Sure, it might take some time to set it up exactly how you like it, but when you have done that there is hardly any friction when it comes to start recording. It is also very easy to correct mistakes. If you said something that you did not want to say, then you can simply repeat that recording without anybody noticing. When you make a recording on that rocky beach and you find out at home that something went wrong, it is much harder to correct that mistake without people noticing and perhaps getting distracted by it. You might go back to that same location but the weather or lighting will be changed.
Loving these videos. So, relatable and attainable.
Thank you so much... glad you like them :-)
Thanks, Rob As usual very helpful. Cheers
Thanks for watching!
Hi Rob. I'm sitting down here in Marco Island, Florida and enjoy your videos. Beautiful scenery you have there. BUT, just wanted to say your videos are very relevant, I also have a channel, and I find they are reassuring to us retired people that question our RUclips existence almost daily. -Tom
With 7500 subs you're doing fantastic! Keep it going and have fun with it!! :-)
Thanks Rob. What type of iPhone do you use and what year did it come out?
I use the iPhone 14 Pro Max... it came out 2 years ago and I've had it almost 2 years.
Wow Rob. Great job. Im loving it!
Thank you :-)
I agree keep it simple. Thank you
You are welcome! Thanks for watching :-)
Great video. What do you used to edit your videos
I use Camtasia to edit my videos :-)
I agree with everybody. I check Rob's channel every day for new videos because they are so interesting. Thanks for making them.
Glad you like them! :-)
Hey Rob! Thanks for your help as always. I went out to the beach last night to record a video on my iPhone, but I realized I do need a better mic to get better audio quality. And…I need to practice using the front camera too. Thanks again, and best regards from San Diego 😊
That's awesome!! Beach videos are great... and definitely an eye opener when you get back and hear the audio if you just used your iPhone mic and there was any wind ;-) The best way to figure all this stuff out is not by listening to and watching videos, but actually getting out there and doing... and that's what you did :-) And now you know! Awesome... keep it up and all the best :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer yes, exactly! I ordered the DJI wireless mic off your link today 🙏🏼☺️
@@Dr.DorisTorres Thank you… very much appreciated :-) Let me know how you like it and if you have any questions about it :) The video I just recorded today shows a little more detail on how I use it :-)

You are perfectly correct 💯

After discovering you and your channel yesterday Rob, I took your advice and started to make longer videos. Today I posted two and gave you a shoutout. Hope that's okay. Martin
Sounds great and no problem at all :-) Best of luck with it!!
What’s your preferred way to get the video from phone to computer and then do you delete it from your phone right away? I prefer recording with an action camera over the phone but you’re right about the fact that the phone is always with you.
Apple makes this part easy on me... since I record with an iPhone and I use a Macbook to edit, I just use AirDrop to wirelessly transfer the video to my Macbook. I don't usually delete it from my phone right away... but if I have any storage concerns then I'd delete it once I know it transferred to the Macbook successfully :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer I think that’s my problem. I do have storage limits, so I’ve been putting video on a large capacity usb drive while I edit the videos. It just seems to take forever to transfer from the iPhone, especially in 4k. I record most stuff in 2.7 on my Ace360 it just plugs in and transfers nicely, even in a Mac. Also, what do you do if your phone rings during a recording?
@@homesteadinglawyer I generally have my phone on "Do Not Disturb" when I'm recording... so that doesn't happen. But if I forget to do that I would generally ignore my phone calls and look at them after I finish recording :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer does the oncoming call mess up the recording?
@@homesteadinglawyer I wasn’t sure about this since it’s never happened to me (getting a phone call while recording)… so I looked it up. Apparently your video WILL be interrupted if your phone rings but that the recording may resume after you reject the call and the resumed video would be in a new video file. But if you put your phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode, then an incoming call will not interrupt your video. I’m hope that helps :-)
Great video, Rob! Thank you!
Thank you, my pleasure! :-)
Thanks Rob, cheers!
No problem! :-)
Really nicely done, Rob!
