Ray, I admire your restraint. When I have to do a job like this, I liberally apply four letter words to get things apart, then turn the air blue putting things back together, cursing everyone from the car designer to the guy who assembled it at the factory to the salesman who sold it to me to the last mechanic who screwed things up, as well as the mothers who gave birth to each of them. ☺

I'm the same. I have invented new words when the existing ones were insufficient. But that's why I watch Ray's videos - not only to absorb the mechanical knowledge, but to absorb some of the Zen. I have the tools. I'll figure out the rest. But I need that Zen...

Somehow people get anti-vaxx on every vaccine instead of looking at the data.

Sadly, I don't think reparability ranks very high at all on the priority list of manufacturers. The highest priority is cost efficiency of initial assembly. If it's difficult and costly to repair later? Customer will be expected to foot the premium cost on time and labor. In fact, that is where most dealerships make their money, on repairs rather than sales. So if anything, there is a moderate incentive to not spend any effort streamlining the repair process, unless customer satisfaction is in need of a boost that year.
Sadly, even if a manufacturer actively made an effort to streamline repair work, most customers would never notice the correlation it has to reduced labor costs and reduced frequency of complications. So there is nearly zero incentive to streamline the process for mechanics.
The customers who do notice such things are nearly always those mechanically inclined to do at least some of their own work themselves. And these kinds of customers make the manufacturer the least money, while often making 3rd party part sellers a great deal more money.
I fall into the "repair it myself" category. The only things I don't do are balance my tires or attempt automatic transmission repairs (though I drive a manual, so no loss there.) While I love this sense of self sufficiency and responsibility and wish more owners paid attention to their vehicles and how hard they can be to repair at times, I also see that sadly there isn't much money in it for manufacturers unless they are specifically branding themselves as "the mechanic's car."

A steering rack on a Silverado shouldn’t be all that hard. It’s mounted up front, at least it is on my 2003. Considering some of the pain in the butt racks I’ve done in the past on cars where it’s close to the firewall, it could be far worse. Pump shouldn’t be to bad either. Cooler, not sure, but can’t be all that bad unless it’s a rust belt truck, which makes things harder to get apart, but still overall not that hard of a job.

Ray, I really like your videos. Working as a mechanic for 40 yrs on military aircraft I learned that losing the use of your hands is a career-ending problem. Young man corporal tunnel damage is just that. Get yourself a pair of fingerless palm-padded mechanics gloves. I see you placing a lot of pressure against the area that connects your hand to your forearm. Protect that area before the damage is permanent. Look it up.
