Can't believe I have been following along since you were still on the Florida trail and am just finding out what the channel name means. I got the Masochist part. Just figured the church part was being ironic.
Wow! I just came across this video of how it all began with you two. I wish I could exchange places with you both. I’ve watched every video of your most recent voyage across the USA from Delaware to SF and I’m loving it! You two were made for each other and I hope you both continue sharing your adventures. Matt, Mr IT. I worked on the other side of your world, the semiconductor industry. I did it for almost 40 years. I’m not sure who you prefer with regards to music tastes but my favorite is the genius of RnR. Todd Rundgren. At the age of 18 he was either going to be a software engineer or a musician and us Todd fans are so happy he chose the latter. He wrote the first paint brush program for apple and created the first 3D computer program music video called, Change Myself. I will try find the video he made about the struggles with various software platforms and the different hardware apparatus needed to create it. Maybe when you are bored to death 🤣🤣🥾🏔️🍺
Very nice to make a new version of the "Who i'm i " video from 2021! I ( re-vieuwed ) your whole ECT adventure recently and remember a video where you guys discussed a " celebrity team name " ( end of the Alabama roadwalk - beginning of the Pinhoty ) , so nice and appropriate : Team MasoTaters ! 😃👍
Great summary for a great team! Starting watching you as you hiked the Florida Trail and have been along (virtually) ever since. Great adventures and looking forward to more. Hike On! One of Many Churches of the Tortoise. (Fear the Tortoise)
Found your channel when you were on the Florida Trail thanks to the algorithm. Best find! I love your channel and thanks for letting us come along with your adventures
Its been a blast watching your adventures and look forward to many more. In just a couple more months my AT thru kicks off and while its been a dream of mine for many years i have to say you have been a great inspiration for me and a wonderful source of knowledge on gear and hiking and your approach to things (we have similar personalities i feel). Its hard to really explain but i appreciate your videos and seeing you persevere through so many hardships has me ready to rock my own adventure(s?)
And I think your favorite color is green! Lol. Love you guys, I've followed you every step of the way. Jen is a very special person with a great personality. Thank you both for fun times.
I've enjoyed following your adventures. Thanks for posting how the trails are and how life on the trail is rather than just the views. It makes us feel like we're following along with you. Maybe I missed it but I'm curious why you sometimes call Taters "Blondie".
When she first started coming on my climbing trips years ago her hair was significantly lighter and combined with her habit of giggling at anything I said I started calling her Blondie as a nickname. And I’m bad about avoiding saying things on camera. Or off camera actually…
The only issue with that loop is the jmt bridges out after last year and that one crossing of the Kings that’s only really doable late in the season. Beyond that it was a really fun loop.
As an amateur astronomer I can officially tell you that using a flashlight to light the stars to see them better doesn't work. (Green laser pointer to point at stuff for others works well though)
Absolutely @@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes . The "Official" Amateur Astronomer organisations have reached out to pilots and those green lasers are definitely visible from the cockpit. Some could be blinding. Especially with night adapted eyes, if you aim at the plane on final in an urbain airport.... Apparently some 5mw are much brighter than others (honestly they do make them much more powerful than 5mw. I have used them in an outdoor theater settings. They are very bright. (they need permits from use in the airspace etc...)

Ask her about the Lindbergh baby. I'm a baby boomer and find many younger folks don't get the reference about finding the Lindbergh baby.
As it turns out we knew a Lindbergh for a while so that reference she would probably get
She's a wonderful human to support you on all these endeavors. You better love the hell out of her! Your videos and humor are great!

Marry this girl!!!! Why have I only just discovered your channel? Safe travels and continued blessings as I look forward to your travels.
I stumbled onto your channel just as you were starting the ECT (thank you YT algorithm). Been living vicariously through you and Jen ever since. ❤
"Relatively normal life" 😆
Our first lady of the recliner. lmao!
Damn, now that's living!
Cool video intro for new folks.

Hi Matt & Jen
That's a nice introduction to you two. It was thoughtful of you to make this for viewers. Thanks.
What a wonderful 5 minute introduction. I have been following you since the ECT. Thank you for sharing your journeys. Best wishes to you and Jen.

Congratulations you figured it out before most folks, look forward to your next adventures!
Keep on moving! Go team!
Matt and Jen- been following from the start. Love the videos. ❤
Home sweet home for the nite!
Awesome vid! #Kaweah
Great vid! But definitely needed a hot take from Jen included at the end. ;-)
I followed your TST trail blogs (and I've section hiked some of it) I'm guessing a TST/JMT circuit falls into that "inadvisable" category?

Your number one ! 😊

Gotta be careful with those laser pointers since we're in the flightpath for John Wayne Airport... :)

Great video
Love the both of you.
I guess it's not too amazing, but i was substantially affected by the deaths of friends from 2013 to 2023
I’ve been contemplating if there’s been a particularly bad run of it this last year or if it’s just affecting me more and more as I age
I'm about to go up the Mississippi any advice
Up river on the Mississippi? I can provide advice as far as going down river but up would be a different thing
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes yes am go up lol am in new orleans now about to get out of here
