Absolutely 100% ain’t the fastest thing out there, expensive to upgrade but driving one can’t take the smile off your face and will always have fun going through your own gears
I remember when they came out. Was a Holden fan till then. I bought a FPV tool box back then thinking I would never be able to afford one. Last year I just went ahead and got a BF GTP in Shockwave, manual, low kms. One of the best buys I have done. Love it.
I remember when they first came out how excited us Ford fans were, especially after being so disappointed with the AU it was like we finally had a current model falcon to be proud of again.
I remember seeing the first BA GT driving down the road and my mates along with myself were like 🤤🤤🤤.. I've owned a BA XR8, BF XR6 Turbo (had an FG XR8 too) and now own a 2008 BFII XR8 Aggressor with only 57,000km.. my favourite shape by far is the B series XR8s and GTs
@@billybodybuilder to be fair the AUII and III XR utes with the Tickford body kit looked ok.. the squared back of the ute and the twin headlights... and the sideskirts squared off the doors and side profile to make it look less jelly bean like.. But still got nothing on the B series , especially the V8s with that bonnet bulge 🤤🤤
Motor mags always used to shit on the boss motors but I love how physically huge they are, they just seem to generate so much inertia, such a charismatic engine
The Boss motors were more reminiscent of the V8's of old, carrying more weight up front. They actually drove and felt more like a muscle car in contrast to the LS which was lighter, and I suppose felt a bit more modern. I think people buried their heads in the sand a bit once the reliability issues surfaced in early LS motors. From recollection, the Boss motors were reliable all the way through 👍👍
Wicked carz i had one a while back. Whipple supercharger on it! Big Cam , 3.5 inch exhaust , Pacemaker Headerz and a few other mods! Thing was a machine and always made me smile driving it!! 😁😁
love it...sounds good, drives good, simple interior, minimal electronics means less to go wrong later and uses less battery. V8 up front sending power to the back via 6 cogs you shift yourself...what's not to love?
Hi, just re-watched this video and I love the comments you made about a very iconic Australian car. People do judge cars on the quarter mile but the ba and bf GT and GTP are bread from Bathurst, a very long and arduous road race. I also don’t know about the slow comments, exhaust, intake and minor tune and my GT is a beast. I can’t put my foot down on a wet road like you did, I’d end up in the bush. Anyway keep up the good work, love the channel.
That centre stack is quite an improvement on the taxi spec base type. Makes the interior classier and less dated with the silver over the gunmetal grey. That blue is the defining colour of the BA XR6/8 to me. The owner has nailed the sound and loudness of that V8. Nice amount of noise without being over the top.

@UCEn4Xd-U4AOJk7t_8rXXf_g funny that, I actually like the vy/vz commodore shape. Probably my favourite shape of Holden and im a Ford guy. Although I see where you're coming from in terms of how the looks have aged over the years.
Own a 2004 Boss260 BA XR8 and also a 2011 5L s/c Miami FPV GS, the GS obviously destroys the XR in acceleration and power but there is a quaint charm of driving the Boss, it really needs to be driven hard - like keeping the revs up and chewing fuel to really get the best experience, they truly are a drivers car and grand tourer if used that way, and the sound they sing when on song 4500rpm+ is glorious, definitely no rocket ship but as an all round package they are a classic Aussie muscle car in every sense of the term. exactly it needs over 4,000rpm to get the best from it and even then the power band only lasts till about 5,500 before it falls off a cliff whereas the i6 turbo keeps on going and going and going. Great review of a really good tourer Jono! I do really like the earlier B series GTs over the later FGs, and credit must go to the owner of this immaculate example!

yeh today people will laugh at a stock car.. even tho they drive a camry.. HP is just a number.. its about how the car connects with you and delivers that power is what's really important
Good honest review and I know what you mean. You get these keyboard jockeys that go " if it ain't 1000hp it ain't shit" but I guarantee you put em in something like this and you won't get the smile off their face.
I agree. These V8s did get alot of negative feedback especially the manual ones. Always lagged behind the Barra 6T in terms of publicity. Such a shame it took the down fall of local Ford Production to be finally appreciated. 😪
they each have a place the Boss & Barra.. but for simply cruising the back roads with a set up like this! man that GT is hard to beat in terms of smiles
it has the same engine as the mustang svt cobra r, slap a supercharger on it along with headers and exhaust and tune it and you have yourself over 600rwhp easily.
I'm getting buried in mine. For those that claim these can't make power, remember that 'little' 331ci makes any easy 480-510hp with minimal changes. Once a couple of flaws are sorted out they're an extremely tough engine.
Slug my arse. A FD LTD full horse float pulling and epa spec is a slug. This thing will give a VK SS blue meanie a proper run. Admittedly 20 years later. Good vid Ross, yet another.
These are cool cars. I test drove one when it was brand new then ended up going with a new BA2 Typhoon myself. The V8 did sound great and was a blast but ultimately I'm a speed freak and the Barra was just that much better. Still driving one today.
@@RossReviewsau yeah 100%. You're also right about the manual in the V8, where as after having a 6spd manual and an Auto turbo, the turbo works better as an auto.
September 2005 I purchased my Menace man pink with orange stripes GTP. 94k Klms later I still love the old jigger. I’ve had HSVs, WRXSTI’s, Jeep SRT, Golf R, Territory Turbos, Mustang GT and of all those cars the GTP is the only one I’ve kept and will never sell. Is it the fastest, hell no. But that’s not the point. Is it
i loved the look of the BA GT when it came out and got excited when i found out that Ford weren't going to use the 4.6 V8 like they had threatened too and instead were going to build their own engine from the Mustang Cobra R block, but sadly Ford didnt put performance as a priority when building the engine and it got walked by the Chevy 6.2 BUY having said that i have seen dozens of BA GT Falcons towing caravans but i have never seen a Clubsport do the same
the BA GT did kick start ford again in the right direction but yeh the BOSS engine was probably a little but of a let down in terms of power but man it drives well
Absolutely love my gt, having owned my ba since new 2003 having only just ticked over 80k probably the lowest k ba in Australia lol, but definitely ain't slow by any strech running 12.4@114mph Na, on street tyres, definitely puts a massive smile on everyone's face when I take it out.
I agree, it seems wrong to me that Jonathan gets an auto when he clearly loves a manual and drives one so skillfully. I know he likes that turbo six immensely, and as autos go, the ZF 6 speed is very good, but I feel he should still have his yellow ute. I liked that more than the typhoon. It fit his personality.
I have one, stock 5sp with 4.1 gears and a big exhaust. Best car I have ever owned and its no slug at all. I don't get why people bag them...maybe it's it's auto xr8 they judge them on. Unfortunately mines the 1of1 narooma blue car so it's garage duty only these days.
VERY NICE.. i think its referred to as a slug only because the barra is easier to make power and so is the LS.. but this example with the minor mods felt VERY HEALTHY.. loved it
Nah I have the boat.... not long ago picked up a BA xr8 auto boss 260. It has a pacemaker exhaust but other than that I'm pretty sure it's stock, I don't think there's any point trying to mod the 260. But it sounds nice and I enjoy driving it, so thats all that matters to me..... until I saw this review that is, now I want performance more like this GT 😁😂
Very nice! the 260 is not much different to this honestly.. go get it a tune and it will become a lot more responsive :) they are great cruisers that sound great
@@RossReviewsau I really wanted a manual, mostly because I prefer them but also because I read a lot of negative comments online about autos, but couldn't find one in my price range. I'm not very learned on engines, performance or fords 😀 it sounds like I might have listened a bit too much to those forums. Everything I read said it wasn't worth improving a 260 or you couldn't improve it, so thanks for replying, I will try and find a shop in my area that can advise me further. I still want to do a manual conversion for my own enjoyment if I can ever afford it.
Performance has moved on considerably. We are in a world where a Stock Hyundai hatchback does it in under 6secs (I30N), without consuming a thousand dinosaurs. Probably better to buy a Camry, add a massive sound system in it that plays the exhaust sound of this car. But to be fair - An excellent cruiser and will put a smile on your dial driving it every time. Will be even more special when everyone’s driving electric.
A great review brother ... I love your words, your description is spot on ... You're a poet and don't even know it .. The connection ...💕 My BA is not a GT it's the little cousin 04 xr8 5 speed manual ... Its a cruiser and its got a similar exhaust note... I got same smile everytime I drive ...😊
Two years ago I was lucky enough to buy a 2003 BA in Acid Rush with 110k on the clock chipped up to 316kw but mine is auto as when you're buying second hand it is what it is. I was at a car show and I have a short video on my channel if anyone is interested, it's the video called "Car Nuts"
@@RossReviewsau yeah and I always wanted a GT since I was a kid. When I bought this one home my wife said, "why do you need a GT", I said "I don't need a GT, I want one"....and the way they're appreciating now I wish I had 2!
Gorgeous Jon........My BA was a Fairmont Ghia 4.0 Barra 182 with the lot ..unfortunately I had issues with the driveline (tailshaft and centre bearing that kept giving me grief ) with big kays on her .. Radio and Sat Nav stuffed up at times too and a couple of other minor electrical issues...But as a drivers car it was lovely and she looked great in Mint Silver too ...Can only imagine what a V8 would have been like but guessing it would have been awesome .. I traded my BA in on my FG XR6 ...My two silver birds are that and my vererable Ol Faithful AU ll Futura that just keeps belting out the kays ...Eff everything else Falcons are the best Aussie cars and always will be for me ..
Nice one mate, love the GT’s its not all about horsepower, I have a BF manual GT myself. I will give you a challenge, how about reviewing an XH Longreach Outback ute if you can find one over in WA. Quite a rare car built to compete with the Toyota 4x4 in the day. Rare Aussie. ute
Mate ,yet another awesome review on a great Aussie V8, keep up the great work, luv the channel.. Would love to know any more info at all on the brand of Extractors, and the quad tip exhausts at all ? Was hoping it might be a Manta as they WA made where you are. Reason for asking is i have BA MK2 GT-P, and have just forked out $5K on a full 3" Extractors to quad tip Manta exhaust, not arrived yet, cant wait to hear how it will sound after fitting and a tune.. - But hoping like this beautiful well kept example, a credit to the Owner, if he is reading comments maybe he could tell me? thanks guys
thanks Denis! thats awesome to hear your GTP will be sounding epic im sure! i looked at the receipt and unfortunately nothing was labeled.. just said "custom exhaust"..
Love my ba but I hate the fact you gotta remove the bumper to change head lights, their ignitions are notorious for going and so are the power steering windows, thankfully I went the turbo instead of the v8 I love ford but when it comes to to v8s I’m sticking with Holden.
@@RossReviewsau the typhoon is a god send! Would love one heh especially bf I’m not the biggest fan of the g series personally but each to their own, the boss are a nice rig but my v8 is a vz maloo or senator with a harrop supercharger and dirty cam with bags all round 😍
@@RossReviewsau The U.S 5.4LTR is the 24valve 220kw Triton 3v per cylinder, l had one in my 2002 Fairmont Ghia & there were only 1500 built with the V8 & only 50 of them were actually 5spd manual, spark plug removal was the main trouble with this engine otherwise they were a good engine. It got written off without me even driving it at the time, l then bought a 2004 XR8 260kw 5.4ltr V8 32v & this engine doesn't have the spark plug removal problem & is stronger than a schooner of straight bourbon. Sure the 260kw is the 'baby' to the 290, 302, 315kw donks but people l know often say they heard me coming from a block away & when l 'stand' on it , it sounds like the gates of hell opening up, dead set reliable & still runs like new even though it's 18yrs old now. lts the best car l ever owned. yeh today people will laugh at a stock car.. even tho they drive a camry.. HP is just a number.. its about how the car connects with you and delivers that power is what's really important
Good honest review and I know what you mean. You get these keyboard jockeys that go " if it ain't 1000hp it ain't shit" but I guarantee you put em in something like this and you won't get the smile off their face.
amen brotha this car keeps that smile on your dial! lol
@@RossReviewsau 100%👍
I remember in about 2008 on the news a BA pursuit ute was caught by the cops doing 255KPH , (same engine as the GTs) that ain't slow
they aint slow at all!
it has the same engine as the mustang svt cobra r, slap a supercharger on it along with headers and exhaust and tune it and you have yourself over 600rwhp easily.
if you can afford that yes.. haha
I'm getting buried in mine. For those that claim these can't make power, remember that 'little' 331ci makes any easy 480-510hp with minimal changes. Once a couple of flaws are sorted out they're an extremely tough engine.
thats it mate! taking it to the grave! haha gotta love em
Slug my arse. A FD LTD full horse float pulling and epa spec is a slug. This thing will give a VK SS blue meanie a proper run. Admittedly 20 years later. Good vid Ross, yet another.
cheers Adam! i love the old BOSS engines!
My son has a BA Mk2 XR8 6MT and even though I’m an auto guy all the way, I enjoy driving the XR8.
the V8 manual is so special
My dad has a black ba gt bloody awesome cars those 290 sounds mint🤙🏻
i do love a good BOSS exhaust note! miss my old ute
These are cool cars. I test drove one when it was brand new then ended up going with a new BA2 Typhoon myself. The V8 did sound great and was a blast but ultimately I'm a speed freak and the Barra was just that much better. Still driving one today.
i love the typhoon a bit more myself.. but gotta love a BOSS for that sound n cruising..
Is it
thats it mate.. not about out right speed but the connection to the car n how it makes you feel when driving! they are so sweet
Awesome car, Great review as always mate 👍
thanks Benny
Well done Ross..absolutely amazing car..
credit to the owner!
i loved the look of the BA GT when it came out and got excited when i found out that Ford weren't going to use the 4.6 V8 like they had threatened too and instead were going to build their own engine from the Mustang Cobra R block, but sadly Ford didnt put performance as a priority when building the engine and it got walked by the Chevy 6.2 BUY having said that i have seen dozens of BA GT Falcons towing caravans but i have never seen a Clubsport do the same
the BA GT did kick start ford again in the right direction but yeh the BOSS engine was probably a little but of a let down in terms of power but man it drives well
Absolutely love my gt, having owned my ba since new 2003 having only just ticked over 80k probably the lowest k ba in Australia lol, but definitely ain't slow by any strech running 12.4@114mph Na, on street tyres, definitely puts a massive smile on everyone's face when I take it out.
gotta love these cars! i miss my XR8 BA ute.. the 5.4 was not a rocket stock but man the noise of it! always made me smile
What did you do to it to run 12.4
@@orion5813 full Bolton's, tune, cams, high stall, diff gears, 60ft was 1.8, half track 89mph and at Heathcote the goat track.
i bet its making ross wanting his BA ute back now
I agree, it seems wrong to me that Jonathan gets an auto when he clearly loves a manual and drives one so skillfully.
I know he likes that turbo six immensely, and as autos go, the ZF 6 speed is very good, but I feel he should still have his yellow ute. I liked that more than the typhoon. It fit his personality.
ive always wished i had of kept the ute :( i want it next to the typhoon
I have one, stock 5sp with 4.1 gears and a big exhaust. Best car I have ever owned and its no slug at all. I don't get why people bag them...maybe it's it's auto xr8 they judge them on. Unfortunately mines the 1of1 narooma blue car so it's garage duty only these days.
VERY NICE.. i think its referred to as a slug only because the barra is easier to make power and so is the LS.. but this example with the minor mods felt VERY HEALTHY.. loved it
Totally always loved them,
they are so good
Nice work, great vid.
thanks :)
@@bigdaddy741098 a tune would really help it come alive :)
Good car best model to me is the ba f6 typhoons
love the B series
Performance has moved on considerably. We are in a world where a Stock Hyundai hatchback does it in under 6secs (I30N), without consuming a thousand dinosaurs. Probably better to buy a Camry, add a massive sound system in it that plays the exhaust sound of this car. But to be fair - An excellent cruiser and will put a smile on your dial driving it every time. Will be even more special when everyone’s driving electric.
100% mate.. cars like this are just not made anymore.. definitely one to hold onto!
A great review brother ...
I love your words, your description is spot on ...
You're a poet and don't even know it ..
The connection ...💕
My BA is not a GT it's the little cousin 04 xr8 5 speed manual ...
Its a cruiser and its got a similar exhaust note...
I got same smile everytime I drive ...😊
thanks mate! its all about that drive and how the car connects with you :) the smiles per gallon haha
Two years ago I was lucky enough to buy a 2003 BA in Acid Rush with 110k on the clock chipped up to 316kw but mine is auto as when you're buying second hand it is what it is. I was at a car show and I have a short video on my channel if anyone is interested, it's the video called "Car Nuts"
nice buy! gotta love these cars eh
I traded my BA in on my FG XR6 ...My two silver birds are that and my vererable Ol Faithful AU ll Futura that just keeps belting out the kays ...Eff everything else Falcons are the best Aussie cars and always will be for me ..
glad you enjoyed it mate! gotta love an Aussie falcon
I said it before and I'll say it again, every bloody car you review makes me want to go out get one 🤣 you should have been a salesman mate haha 🤙
😂👏 thanks brother this car could sell its self tho honestly 🔥
Nice one mate, love the GT’s its not all about horsepower, I have a BF manual GT myself. I will give you a challenge, how about reviewing an XH Longreach Outback ute if you can find one over in WA. Quite a rare car built to compete with the Toyota 4x4 in the day. Rare Aussie. ute
Thanks for the idea! i would love to! i like rare weird aussie cars.. think that will be tough to find tho
Bloody great video Jon. This blue FPV would make a great comparison video with red my VZ clubby
That would be the best!
I do absolutley love the BA GT, its the most like the old XW GT, Basic and fast
its so good for what it is.. love this GT
@@RossReviewsau I think looks Wise it looks better than all the GT's that came after

Great car for what it is, Dont make them like this anymore. Well nothing like this is made anymore.
So true! Cars like this are simply not around anymore sadly 🥲 love this thing for cruising smiles ☺️

very nice choice
Sweeet exhaust note 👌
I love it!
Love my ba but I hate the fact you gotta remove the bumper to change head lights, their ignitions are notorious for going and so are the power steering windows, thankfully I went the turbo instead of the v8 I love ford but when it comes to to v8s I’m sticking with Holden.
thats a fair call.. im in a typhoon also but i still love the BOSS engine but the LS is great also!
@@RossReviewsau the typhoon is a god send! Would love one heh especially bf I’m not the biggest fan of the g series personally but each to their own, the boss are a nice rig but my v8 is a vz maloo or senator with a harrop supercharger and dirty cam with bags all round 😍

What are the 5.4 litre V8s like from a reliability point of view.
I have seen bad reviews on the 5.4 in USA cars but maybe these are different ?
these are pretty reliable.. i think only timing chains can go.. but ive seen plenty well over 200,000 kms going hard
PS; it's got 260,000ks on it & it runs as smooth as the day it was built.
I own a 2007 XR8 ute had it for 12 years has 180,000 on it never had a problem with the motor except for things that go like battery, alternator etc always serviced I don't flog it, sometimes I'll give her a squirt here and there but overall they're good. I heard some things about the 3 valve triton but the 4 valve Boss is ok.
Completely stock ! Except it has a custom exhaust.. and it except it has an intake kit... And it except it has a retune..
But it's stock
Yeah I laughed at this too. But mostly stock….
