I love this one. Check her out on the video of GMBMM uploaded by RECORDPAUSEPLAY if you haven't already. The quality of the video itself is less than perfect (there are other songs from that show scattered around here too) but Cindy and Ricky are forces of nature on that one, and the vocals are just fine. Her dancing is classic Cindy.
finally. i have been waiting for someone to post this song from this particular tour. cindy did her best give me back my man from the cosmic thing tour. thank u thank u thank u for posting this. now if u have bushfire from this tour then we can all watch kate play guitar.
Try all of these to see videos of Cindy dancing (and Kate too). They're great! Rock Lobster (Countdown), Give Me Back My Man (by Mighty Denny), Dance This Mess Around (by Cobby's mom), Private Idaho (by Ken Anderson), Love Shack (London), Rock in Rio 85, Live in Dortmund 83. It won't let me post the web addresses.
@Zerocrop yes, i saw them in 89 for the 2nd show of the tour at the filmore in san francisco. when she sang give me back my man she appeared to start crying. maybe she was thinking of her brother ricky. they had some keyboard problems so they did a chant they called modene to stall for some time.
@ Gary Watson: "Walking out of Korvettes, Package in her hand." Is in reference to a chain of discount department stores that were found in eastern United States.
@Zerocrop i agree, gmbmm IS very intense and also kind of melancholy which is probably why it is my favorite b52s song to this very day. as for ricky, he was a genius. he played with only 4 guitar strings and used some special tunings. so many musicians say that some of the best guitar solos are from early B52s songs.
Seen the 52's many times 1st time was during their Whammy tour.I've seen them twice with Ricky. If you have never seen them you are missing out on a unforgettable musical experience.Going to see them again in July.
i would say the b52s were never very big in the uk except for maybe "rock lobster" (now lost on this generation probably) and "love shack"....me, i loved them from the first moment i heard them, in the early 80s. but as someone has said, they do definitely have a following over here :o)
@Zerocrop were the B52s very big in the uk? they kind of represent allot of american pop culture in a camp/ kitsch sort of way. they referred allot to stuff that was known in the south in particular. did the uk get that?
@fundies2 Actually one of the reasons I like them is because they are quintessentially American but they put over a version or view of America that is less mainstream and commercial.
@Zerocrop yes, i agree totally. they are like the movie"cloud nine from outer space" meets "the jetsons" meets an annette funiccelo beach movie. then u add in some politics and u have the b52s. its cool that people all over the world "get it".
Oh I see, there used to be a big department store chain called Korvettes. Went out of business gradually in the 70's and closed in the 80's. Fought in court for the right to discount. The lyric sites all have it as "Corvettes" but it's spelled with a "K".
@fundies2 - I saw them both nights in London in late 89 at the start of this tour and it was a special moment when they played it, third in the set after Cosmic Thing and Bushfire. The crowd went crazy.
@fundies2 Ricky was the greatest. For a band that is sometimes perceived as frivolous or wacky, particularly in the UK, GMBMM is a very intense song and in my view very accomplished.
@fundies2 They had very wide awareness and a hardcore dedicated cult following in the UK from the first album but played here very rarely indeed. The UK is totally aware of American pop culture but I think it's hard to convey to people today just how bizarre and different the B-52's seemed to the contemporary music scene when they first became known. The combination of their style, demeanour and sound completely set them apart. There was nothing else like it. They were from another planet.
Incredible! This vocal performance is closest to the album version of all the concert performances I've seen on RUclips
The energy in this band is unbelievable!!
God damn, I am in love with Cindy Wilson. Give me back my Cindy!

This is my FAVORITE live footage of this song! Awesome!
Spirited performance! My favorite of this song I've found. Luv Cindy!
Bloody hell, Cindy. You look incredible.
Cindy Wilson singing it is like a dream.
A beautiful dream

@cezarix if you don't end up dancing to the b52's music period ... i think a doctor might be required ;/

@fundies2 Yes it's one of my favourites also. There was no one to touch Ricky really.

Anybody know what "Walking out of Corvettes" means?
it was a department store that is not around anymore..
Yeah, but it was Korvette's with a K.

Poor audio quality and video that looks like it was shot with a flip phone.
The 52’s deserve better than this, much better
