I love my Momentum harness! I started out BD Momentum harness and shoes. Cut to 3 years later, I’ve moved on to more aggressive shoes, but still have the same harness. It’s so comfy!

The Momentum is less suitable for mountaineering than many harnesses due to the buckles on the leg loops being locked. As well, this is the one folks have trouble adjusting more than others because those quick slide buckles are not meant to hold the leg loops in place, but they draw the attention away from the elastic in the back to tension the leg loops into place. Less of a fan, I like getting people into the Corax LT if they are not getting an all around harness or a Mammut Ophir if they are.

Go to a climbing store and try on a harness, best advice. You don’t know until you get it on your waist.

dmm mithril is (in my opinion) a better all rounder/beginner harness thanks to the adjustable leg loops

Started out with a momentum harness, still use the same type (although newer harness) for indoor / sport, have moved on to the DMM renegade for Trad though. Would still recommend the BD Momentum or the DMM Viper / Vixen starter packs to any new climbers asking my opinion. This is mainly due to the harnesses themselves! BD is just stupidly comfortable! and the DMM while still very comfortable, is more about the highly adjustable fit / "floating" waist loop. Both packs offer great value for money, top durability and as said already, comfort.

Would be really good to see some harnesses that are aimed at trad climbers!

I don't think that the trance is the best beginner harness that DMM make, the viper/vixen is more for the beginner market, much more of an all-round harness, similar to the corax but lighter.

Title says: for safety and comfort. Are you saying any of them are not safe?

I think a more appropriate title would've been "for durability and comfort."
All of them are super safe when new, but harnesses with more material tend to be able to take more abuse before compromising safety.

Safety in general probably, since for most people, climbing without a harness is not safe.

I was not actually asking, rather pointing out that the title maybe does not make too much sense haah

      @@schonni8390 fair point

True, not a worthwhile talking point since even ultralight skimo style harnesses are rated for climbing. Sure some of them are technically safer than others, probably get another kn out of a tie in point or so, but not in any valuable way.
He does note durability early on rather than safety. Title probably will change.
