Great reaction Ladies. You should know Karen Carpenter was a World Class Drummer. Her jazzy swingy style was most impressive. RUclips has an amazing drum solo by Karen that will blow you away. I highly recommend it. Karens joyful fascial expressions are on full display. Most of us musicians who sing prefer to do so from behind a guitar, piano. or drums. Being the center of attention is not for everyone. Karen was never fully comfortable in that role. Karen was happiest when she was behind her drum kit, locked in with the other musicians in the band, creating music. Mentally for Karen, becoming the "Face of the Band" was a very difficult pill for her to swallow. Best wishes Itsprincess, RNB

I agree,Karen was an exceptional Jazz drummer as well as a brilliant all round drummer, loved all her music but I felt that there was a sadness in a lot of her music,as you say she was happiest behind the drums,I've been playing drums for 50+ years and that is also my happy place where I feel comfortable. Her passing is/was such a loss to the music scene. The movie about K.C, for me,really brings out the theme of sadness through out her short life.

He also wrote the song for The Muppet Movie in 1979, where he made a cameo appearance as the piano player in a bar where Kermit met Fossie Bear. He's the little blonde guy in glasses. Years later, he wrote the songs for The Muppet Christmas Carol, too. Many of use were concerned the guy might self-destruct in heavy drugs and party era of the late 1970s and early 1980s. He didn't, though he had to withdraw from the public eye to save his life. We were all so happy when he came back to work for Brian Henson after Jim died. 🎭💖

It's reassuring that there are open-minded, perceptive young people, such as you Gen Z Girls, willing to explore performers from the past such as the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter's vocals stand the test of time--her tone, breath control, enunciation, and the warmth that she infuses into lyrics are wondrous. Her brother Richard created timeless arrangements of pop classics. He is an exceptional musician as well. Karen was a world class drummer too. The Carpenters are the best selling musical act of the 1970's. They are multiple Grammy Award winners. They deserve to be discovered and celebrated by new generations of audiences.

At one point Rolling Stone magazine (the only magazine on modern music) rated her as one of the best drummers. She really didn't want to sing, she wanted to play drums. Richard Carpenter was very protective of his sister and their music. He has refused almost all requests to use their music in movies. The only movie I know that actually used their music was Ghost Rider and the common phrase about her music during the music was "Don't step on Karen".

Karen started out as her brother's band's drummer. The lead singer they had left and her big brother, Richard, basically drafted her to sing because they had a gig to play, re-worked the music to fit perfectly with her unique voice and the star was born. She and her brother were the perfect duo. Sadly she struggled with the fame and the pressure. Years of anorexia took it's toll even though she'd gotten help the damage had been done and she the month before her 33rd bday. Gone WAY too soon. She and I have the same birthday so being a big fan was hard to as a young teen of almost 13.

Richard was her brother who did all the arranging, he's the guy on the electric piano. Karen was a top notch drummer. They later had Tv specials and Karen sang a duet with Ella Fitzgerald on one show. I believe there are people out there today who CAN sing, very well, who are artists in the very strict true sense,, with their heart, who are being ignored by the profiteers of the music industry.

Entertaining reaction. They were popular with the public but the entertainment music media made fun of them for not being hip or in at this time. The lead music critic for Billboard called Karen Carpenter, Richard’s pudgy little sister. The insults continued and at the time there was little understanding of the impact or an eating disorders. Her death from anorexia shocked the world. I think she was in her early 30’s and no one could imagine or heard of anorexia, bulimia, or any eating disorders .The Carpenters left a large chest of excellent songs and performances. There is a clip from a television special that features Karen Carpenter singing with the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald. 2 real legends singing real classic songs.

Please delve deep into the Carpenters catalog. I just found your channel but they are one of the most reacted to artists by Gen Z and others (along with ABBA and Simon & Garfunkel). You must cover "Superstar", "We've Only Just Begun", "Close To You" and dozens of other hits. Although Karen was considered one of the best female contralto voices to ever be recorded, she starved herself to death at just age 32, never finding love nor real respect as artists (success and stardom yes, but respect? no). Today she would have been so amazed how people your age (rockers & speed metal fans, hip-hop & rapper fans, country fans, young girls, old people, big burly men, diverse nationalities & races, etc.) all are amazed by her voice and Richard's harmonies, compositions and musical arrangements.

I'm getting Amy Winehouse vibes. Writing a song about how she doesn't need to talk it out, when she had an eating disorder that killed her. Absolutely needed to talk it out.

Karen was brilliant with her brother Richard she. Was also a great drummer however she had an eating issue which was all consuming and in the end she lost her life to anorexia.❤

Dont know how extensive your musical knowledge is but try some other female greats, California Dreaming by The Mamas and Papas, Dusty Springfield Son of a Preacher Man, Sade, Smooth Operator.
