- Akita Dog - This is how I train Yuki, my Japanese Akita. I taught him most of the commands when he was a puppy.
Japanese Akita dogs are very intelligent and learn very fast. Their complex personality can become challenging during the training.
Therefore it is important to be patient and flexible during each training session. Taking short breaks between every praise and command is necessary to keep Japanese Akita dogs motivated.
In addition, each training session should be short because it helps them to process and retain what they have learned during the training.

I am aware that this is an old video, but does anyone (or OP themself) have any tips or anything to consider when raising a Japanese Akita? I have never owned a dog before (I've been around them, but I was a cat person throughout my childhood & teenagedom. I honestly have more experience with horses than I do dogs), but I've been wanting to get an Akita Inu in the future. It isn't any time soon, but something I'd like in the future eventually - this also gives me time to prepare.

They follow commands expecting tasty reward. Another level of understanding between a dog and a human is to execute commands by the dog without giving out a reward.

Your videos are great and well made. You treat your dog with upmost respect, that is clearly visible. But you give a wrong picture regardless of the quality of your videos. When people see your videos they think all or most Akitas are like Yuki. You and i know most Akitas are not like Yuki. She is very obedient and follows commands like a professional. But most Akitas are very stubborn and cat like and they will have a hard time even preforming a fraction of the things you showed. I owned many various dogs in my life, and not one dog was like a Akita. Your Yuki behaves more like a Labrador than like a Akita. I admire your hard work and your videos but you should also tell the people how stubborn Akitas can be.

And how does he do with other dogs? I have a female akita which is pretty aggresive and dominant towards other females but ok with males.
All Akitas are known to be that way; they do not do well with the same sex.
@@newleft2254 True, but not all of them are like that. Her sister is great both with females and males. Everything was great until her first heat and after that she became aggresive towards females. Now we don't know what to do. Maybe spay her?
