Asish Reddy ...there not ready for this breed period. I had my Akita 14yrs (passed 2015) ..she was beautiful and stubborn but the MOST loving, loyal, protective dog I EVER had ..you got to let them know who’s the Alpha..This is a big boy and should of started training at young..
I have a Japanese Akita Cross Rottweiller. Akita's are the best. He will be there for you at the drop of a hat don't you worry about that. They miss nothing. They only bark for a reason. And may I say his coat is absolutely spectacular. You have the perfect attitude toward him and they are so responsive to politeless. I'm favoriting and subscribing to this. Best Akita vid on RUclips. Once the trainer hands the dog back over to the owner, she will immediately go back to letting the dog lead and walk all over her. She just doesn't get it and is just laughing and pointing out this and that, oh there's a cat, not really paying any attention to the trainer. Her attitude is not serious. I can see that choker leash training especially with a big powerful stubborn breed like the Akita needs to start at puppy time, this dog was let go for far too long.
I thought I was the only one that notice the lack of attention from the owner (her). I'm the owner of a Akita and she is my SD. This was possible with tons and tons of training and socialization. Akitas are stubborn you need to keep ur composter. Not laughing around while a professional is trying to train the dog. I just hope they got a handle of it. Akitas are a awesome breed.
As a pure-bred Akita owner, whoever has the leash in the beginning struggling for control should be much closer establishing dominance. In situations like this, one of my hands is practically where the leash connects to the harness. I let my dog know who’s boss. You have to do that with Akita’s or they will run you.
The reason she is struggling more than she should is because she is using a harness. A traditional neck collar should be used at all time no matter the size of the dog big or small it maintains a more consistent control.

Im not a dog trainer and I have had three akita males and one female. None were this hard to train. My last one Max was 110 lbs at eleven months and I never had a problem with him like this. I didn't pamper him like sleeping in the bed but I LET HIM SLEEP IN THE ROOM. When he got unruly I used my voice. Now listen to how softly he talks to him. When I walked him he never pulled or yanked. When I said stop he would flap his ears back and STOP. He wanted the hundred pound bloodhound two doors up the street from me. He would just sit and stare and do that little growl like half bark and half cough. I say no and he would look the other way. Kids came into yard and played with him. Little dogs would play with him. But Big dog is a no no and even cats and squirrels put him in his place. He was big but I think your voice says a lot to dog when training them.
You are 100% correct! Akitas are very sensitive, just modulating your tone does wonders. In general your dog wants to please you, even a stubborn, hard-head like the Akita!
@@a.c.6475 Its not hard just have to be alpha. AN Akita knows like any other dog he gets what he wants or she wants if they Obey. WHen my Max went away, he was 130 lbs with a 29 inch neck and he never thought of his neck to his advantage which it was. The Akitas neck is there weapon along with the sneak attack. They dont bark much and dont growl much. I understand that and would never let my Akita out of my sight in the presence of strangers.
I agree. I just lost my Brucie this month. He was so respectful. Especially toward me since I was not his official Alpha. He was my step-father's who was not always present to take the lead with Bruce. Nevertheless, Brucie was a love ball. As long as you knew how to communicate with him, lovingly, it was ok. However, tone was very important for extreme circumstances. He respected that. The important thing is to only have a pet if you care enough to care. Dogs communicate with us in their own way. Humans need to listen to their pets. We are the leaders. Once these little babies pass, we will create reasons to beat ourselves up with guilt. There are some things we can't control, even when we do everything to "control". God has ultimate say. The silver lining, dust to dust. It hurts to know Akitas get such a bad rap. Every soul is different. Nevertheless, the chokie part here hurt me. The nice part is he took a break, pet him and placed the leash on the uppermost part of his neck. It's training. As long as it's done with love in foundation and respect fur baby should be ok. The truth is these are big dogs!! What about respect for other creatures? Like a kitty kat? So it's essential right now this guy be trained with love in order to prevent a tragedy. I think it looks worse than it is. These guys love each other! What a beautiful baby. @@simine2058 They are overall good dogs. They dont have the reputation of pitbulls but just as deadly. In Akitas case, It is all about the master. I gave my Max shortloin ends and if you dont know what that is, its the part of the cow that you cut tbones and porterhouses out of. Lots of meat and bone. Max would grunt because his jaws were so sore. I gave him and Patches (another Akita) the best but they listened when I spoke. I say no and the ears flap. I say sit and he would look me in the face and sit. The kids in the neighborhood loved him. He was tender with them as I had two kids the same age of those kids. They are great dogs and I would trust my Akita with my life just as he would trust me with his.
Not only that, they were big with women paying attention. How many women walked up to me and asked what he was. All I had to do is walk him away from the neighborhood and I would get questions all the time. AND they also pet him and he made friends. Socializing.
I lost my husky a little over a month now and ended up getting one of these guys two weeks ago now. I've actually been enjoying going through the training and teaching with him like I did with my husky. And even though I read about it I'm still impressed with how smart he is.
@@ohquicksey9545 my akita is so stubborn 😂 I tell him to lie down and he will sit give me a paw then look away and walk off it's like hes thinks well shes had something out of me it's better than nothing, and he so knows the difference. I love my big baby so much. He's literally changed my life.

Firstly let me say what a beautiful dog. I have had 3 Akita’s and loved them to bits. They can be stubborn and take a while to understand they are not the pack leader. When I first started the video I thought training with that halter you had on was going to be a challenge, pulling through their shoulders they are incredibly powerful. Your trainer went to one of the two preferred lead set ups for training. The other being the one we used a halter across the snout. Distracting them to get back on track is much easier. Enjoy

My boyfriend has an American Akita that is 4 years old and he is much worse than this and I needed to understand good tekniques to walk him so that he doesn't lunge attack for thinga. It's very difficult walking him and I don't want this story to repeat over and over.

Hi Carlos I personally not keen on them as it applies constant slight pressure on the snoot but like any tools if used properly I’m ok with it ! But most people buy them without the knowledge on how to use them and most dogs you will come across still drag they’re owner and see rubbing dogs snoot and eyes and by the time I get called to help the dogs have learned to push thru !
Leash training - none, Akita all over the place. should have learned to heel in puppy class!. Easy way to do that. As soon as leash goes tight and dog is pulling - STOP moving and talking and wait till dog just slightly slackens the leash and you proceed forward. Stop every time he pulls and they soon figure it out. Cant tell if young dog is neutered but hope they get it done. Some people just are not prepared for an intelligent and independent thinking dog like an Akita and would be better suited to an easier going breed. I think the trainer should be more verbal with the dog. He yanks the collar but doesnt give a verbal correction . I am glad they sought help and realized the need for some intervention though. Akita's are very wolf like in their behaviours and especially males need an experienced Big Dog owner. They are the most loyal guardians but always wary of strangers until introduced. Very quiet breed, they are not barkers like Shepherds, Akita's just stare..........
Would you say these dogs are the PERFECT dog as far as LOYALTY and PROTECTION for the family and how will they behave with strangers when I have cook outs or parties at the house,take them to the park,will they behave around strangers and other dogs???
Any advice for how to stop the slip lead sliding down the dogs neck? When I tighten it behind my american akita's ears it slides down to the bottom of his neck within practically a minute of walking. I've tried tightening it even more, shoving his fur/skin down past the rope and so far nothing is working. My american akita is a puller at the moment so really hoping to improve his walking with the slip rope, but if it keeps sliding down his neck i don't see it working and i can hear my akita gasping harshly by the time we get home. I thought a slip rope would be a solution that wouldn't involve the gasping/choking noises?

Because it is preached that certain people should not have this type of breed.An unobedient Akita is a dangerous breed and not a fun breed. You did not know how to train your dog. You are the type of person who should not have one.
Good point is that he does not run, but they try to keep him stay frozen for long time. He looks desperate, they just make him sit up and he has to walk, and they have to use keywords or commands. The only reason that he controls himself is because he feels hanged.
The thing is prong collar are not for every owner this is why I had to use a slip lead for this dog I always make sure to fit the right tool for the owner !
The oroblem is, she let him get to this point, becsuse right now,, he's the Alpha in this family... I like to train my Akita's with wolf pack training, its worked with all three of my male American Akita's... Then the women laughing, only causes her pet further damage... She needs to be way more trained the her dog. But the best part, its fixable...
The very best thing I ever bought for my Akita is the "Freedom no pull Harness" from American dog shop. There are two loops, one right behind the shoulder and another in the front at the chest. You hook the leash to both loops and if he pulls, you simply do a little tug on the part hooked to that first loop and it redirects his body weight so that his front legs turn toward you, slightly off the ground. No choking at all, which I prefer, personally.
Is your Akita still pulling. I’ve owned many Akitas. Great dogs. My male deff pulls. Buts it’s only when walk both my mail every and my female. So I know he just wants be ahead of her when waking. I keep my dogs at my side when I walk. If the pull. I ask the dog to re set. And the turn and get back to my heal. There stubborn but oh I love this breed. So good with kids and teenagers. I have kids over our house all the time. My children’s friends love our Akitas. Our male is big 125 lbs. female 115 lbs.
@@theway3058 He only pulls a little now, and only for the first few minutes but my boy isn't nearly that big. He's only about 90lbs. The Freedom no pull harness really, really helped a lot. Being honest, some of his bad leash manners are my fault because I didn't work with him as much on leash training when he was younger as I should have
Anyone have any advice for a female Akita who likes to dig up dirt and jump fences to roam the neighborhood? She’s 2 years old. I honestly don’t even know what to do at this point. I have tried everything to keep her in the yard except for an electric collar/fence thing, and when she is on the tether outside she just digs up the dirt to the point where it’s almost calf level deep.
hi, we have a 4 month old akita, (and a 10 week old) absolutely brilliant until it comes to toilet time, the 10 week old is just getting used to using the puppy pads but the oldest is peeing anywere and everywere he seems to have taken a step back as he used to be fine with going out letting us know he needs to go out any advice please?
Emily Calligan x hi first advice is remove the puppy pad as they just teaching your dog to pee indoors! The reason he maybe doing that is because he’s seeing the other dog do it so just make sure you take them out for the toilet as often as poss so they do it outside! Hope this helps
Jay T To be honest, I think as long as the dog doesn't pull the leash, bite your legs or hands, pee/poop outside, jump on people, accept other dogs and other basic commands... walking out first is not as important. As long as my dogs were behaving properly, I didn't mind about them wanting to walk first.
My old American akita always walked out the Door first, and he never bit, growled, ignored a command, he was good as gold, as a standard I think it's important but each individual is exactly that
Jay you clearly missed the meaning, he was teaching the dog patience 👌 I do the same thing, and it has kept her from bolting. She knows to stay unless I give her the command "lets go"

Lol you obviously never owned a big dog, they make choking collars for a reason, big dogs ARE strong and can be hard to control, unless you PROPERLY train them. This guy is doing everything right, you're a cupcake, who will probably never have a well mannered dog, because you're busy being to thined-skinned. The dog is fine, it's still breathing. 👌
Akitas are known to be independent and strong willed. They will test your boundaries and if you are "soft" they will be the alpha dog and bully you around. If you can't control your Akita it's bad for the dog too because it'll lead to behavioural problems that can get the dog in trouble with other dogs or kids
If you have never owned an Akita you will never understand this Breed i have been around Akitas ever since I was in my 20s if you dont set boundries then they are going to think they are in control perhaps you should read up on this breed.

Alan This is why the sessions last a couple of hours first we teach the dog and shows them that the dog can do it then we teach the owners!

Martingale collar for training harness causes sores if you leave them on and promotes pulling

I have 3 huskies but need more a guard dog do you think they could get along or would it be a problem ?

Why do people with no experience get an Akita ! They are so intelligent and will outsmart you ! They can be fatal with other dogs !

Good point is that he does not run, but they try to keep him stay frozen for long time. He looks desperate, they just make him sit up and he has to walk, and they have to use keywords or commands. The only reason that he controls himself is because he feels hanged.

Hmm!....shouldn't you be using a prong collar? Over time that would help eliminate the pulling that Akitas and dogs like it tend to do!
The thing is prong collar are not for every owner this is why I had to use a slip lead for this dog I always make sure to fit the right tool for the owner !

I like to train my Akita's with wolf pack training, its worked with all three of my male American Akita's...
Then the women laughing, only causes her pet further damage...

The very best thing I ever bought for my Akita is the "Freedom no pull Harness" from American dog shop. There are two loops, one right behind the shoulder and another in the front at the chest. You hook the leash to both loops and if he pulls, you simply do a little tug on the part hooked to that first loop and it redirects his body weight so that his front legs turn toward you, slightly off the ground. No choking at all, which I prefer, personally.
Is your Akita still pulling. I’ve owned many Akitas. Great dogs. My male deff pulls. Buts it’s only when walk both my mail every and my female. So I know he just wants be ahead of her when waking. I keep my dogs at my side when I walk. If the pull. I ask the dog to re set. And the turn and get back to my heal. There stubborn but oh I love this breed. So good with kids and teenagers. I have kids over our house all the time. My children’s friends love our Akitas. Our male is big 125 lbs. female 115 lbs.
@@theway3058 He only pulls a little now, and only for the first few minutes but my boy isn't nearly that big. He's only about 90lbs. The Freedom no pull harness really, really helped a lot. Being honest, some of his bad leash manners are my fault because I didn't work with him as much on leash training when he was younger as I should have

Akitas will defend their owner, they don't have to learn it.

Anyone have any advice for a female Akita who likes to dig up dirt and jump fences to roam the neighborhood? She’s 2 years old. I honestly don’t even know what to do at this point. I have tried everything to keep her in the yard except for an electric collar/fence thing, and when she is on the tether outside she just digs up the dirt to the point where it’s almost calf level deep.

hi, we have a 4 month old akita, (and a 10 week old) absolutely brilliant until it comes to toilet time, the 10 week old is just getting used to using the puppy pads but the oldest is peeing anywere and everywere he seems to have taken a step back as he used to be fine with going out letting us know he needs to go out any advice please?
Emily Calligan x hi first advice is remove the puppy pad as they just teaching your dog to pee indoors!
The reason he maybe doing that is because he’s seeing the other dog do it so just make sure you take them out for the toilet as often as poss so they do it outside!

Jay T To be honest, I think as long as the dog doesn't pull the leash, bite your legs or hands, pee/poop outside, jump on people, accept other dogs and other basic commands... walking out first is not as important. As long as my dogs were behaving properly, I didn't mind about them wanting to walk first.
My old American akita always walked out the Door first, and he never bit, growled, ignored a command, he was good as gold, as a standard I think it's important but each individual is exactly that

Jay you clearly missed the meaning, he was teaching the dog patience 👌 I do the same thing, and it has kept her from bolting. She knows to stay unless I give her the command "lets go"

while he is telling you that your dog is doing it to himself. There is something wrong with you when you are standing there watching your dog in distress trying to save himself because you won't stop the guy from choking your dog. being choked by someone you THINK is a dog trainer.

Lol you obviously never owned a big dog, they make choking collars for a reason, big dogs ARE strong and can be hard to control, unless you PROPERLY train them. This guy is doing everything right, you're a cupcake, who will probably never have a well mannered dog, because you're busy being to thined-skinned. The dog is fine, it's still breathing. 👌
@CookieKik x I agree, can't be a weakling, with bigger dogs, I own an America akita. She's only 55lbs..but strong. So yeah the collars help alot.
Akitas are known to be independent and strong willed. They will test your boundaries and if you are "soft" they will be the alpha dog and bully you around. If you can't control your Akita it's bad for the dog too because it'll lead to behavioural problems that can get the dog in trouble with other dogs or kids
If you have never owned an Akita you will never understand this Breed i have been around Akitas ever since I was in my 20s if you dont set boundries then they are going to think they are in control perhaps you should read up on this breed.
