I wish I had found this breed when I was younger. I have a 5 year old male, Tomodachi, and I will be in my late 60's by the time he passes. Best breed, best dog, period. Akitas are Canine Royalty, and other dogs know it.
My Akita, Jess, died three months ago :'( We miss her so much. She was such a great dog, so gentle, protective, hilarious and so stubborn :) She rarely barked and never did we ever hear he growl... she was such a great part of not only my own family but the whole extended family- we all loved her... they are the most amazing dogs ever. But I think mum and dad are getting us an akita pup for Christmas :D Fingers Crossed!
I'm on my second Akita. The first dog we ever had at my house as a child was an Akita. He was my favorite thing in the world. My parents were a little worried with how I played with him since I was only 5 at the time. Now that I'm older I can say in retrospect I would be a little worried too. My cousin and I would steal his bone while he was chewing it in the garage and we would run to our porch in the back yard that had an electrical fence blocking him from getting on it. After we made it we would give it back to him and then we would do it all over again for hours on end. Looking back the dog must have enjoyed it because these dogs can easily out run a 5 year old. After he died we had many other breeds like a Brittany Spaniel, Great Pyrenees, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, but none of these were another Akita. Now that I'm older I bought my own dog, another Akita. I can't imagine having any other breed. These dogs have such character and a personality that you can't really get in any other breed. Plus they are big and you can give them big bear hugs. I think I like them so much because I feel like based on their personalities if I were a dog I would be an Akita myself. That's how me and my dog get along so well. It's very easy for me to understand what he wants. Usually takes me 3 guesses to figure out what he wants and he will let me know either yes it's what he wants or no try again.
Michiko, is my girl and I too cannot even fathom any other breed I just fell in love. They are truly loving like no other and so smart. I feel like she and I read each other's minds! Because I swear she knows what I am going to do before I do. Hahahaha
Totally agree We have had four. The last two were brother and sister from a shelter and were registered. We are down to one and getting older but I can’t imagine life without an Akita in my life.
I love Akita’s I have had six Akita’s in my 40 years of marriage. My husband had 2 as a child and introduced me to the breed. I let my grandkids play in the yard and know that Diesel will watch over them. They are great family dogs. They love to talk and to mouth you gently. They are not barkers, so when they do bark you know somethings up. They are very clean and cat like when they groom themselves . Yes when they blow their coats its a nightmare but find a good groomer and take them every six weeks it helps keeping the shedding to a minimum. I have to vacuum everyday but they are worth it.
When my first Akita passed away I called my Mother in Az and she called my sister who was a Manager at a Costco. She broke down in tears and everyone thought I had passed away. She said it was my sister's Akita and we all love her so much.
I have had four Akitas. Beautiful, brave breed, but you must socialize them well while they are young. Puppy kindergarten, lots of parks, parades, festivals. And have people come to your house to visit frequently, including children. Then, you'll have a mellow and happy Friend who doesn't chew, beg, lick people too much, or jump up on folks. Best dog ever!
i ve had dogs all my life... and when they left me for rainbow bridge it hurt so much! now i am a proud owner of a 1 year old big boy akita . although i live our relation to the fullest i know it s going to be harder when we will be separated by life or age cause akitas take so much space in our every day life.they are simply awsome beings
Sorry for your loss, Jordan. One of our female Akitas died suddenly from bloat a few years ago. She was only eight at the time. It was one of the saddest days of our lives. I know how you feel.
This makes me miss my beautiful, beloved Princess Charlotte Bear who passed 7 years ago in my arms. So dignified in life and death. She was, as Helen Keller called them, my "angel in fur". She will always live on in my thoughts and heart. I miss you my beautiful baby, I know you will be waiting for me when my time comes.
I really like Akitas, I had to put mine to sleep last Wednesday one of the hardest thing I had to do. Duke was 10 years old, I got him when he was 2 1/2 months it is very hard, I find myself looking at the time when I would feed him, let him out, when I come in. Even the babies {my great grandchildren} come in asking where's duke, he would kiss them and they would kiss him. I miss my big baby, the tears have not completely stop yet, but I'll get there. Love you Duke
Joyce whitehead Joyce I know what are feeling. I lost my dad, my dad to dementia, my and did not grieve like I continue to grieve for my dear best friend Akita, Tora
Thanks, my girlfriend really liked it. I just got an Akita Puppy, his name is Kiba, I think Akita's are the most beautiful animals , they are so majestic, and the pictures on this video are awesome.....
Stunning, I have a very dark pinto male American Akita, they are so very intelligent, quick to learn and beautiful, his most recent trick was to learn how to pull the levers on the french doors down so now he can open them. I have had no real issues with him, it's all about understanding this magnificent breed.
I had paired Akitas for almost 20 years. Sometimes the same age, a coupe times old and young with NEVER a problem. I was dedicated to the breed until the last one. We got him as a puppy and he was great until 1 1/2 years....like a light switch went off with his aggression. He turned on our (perfect) 7 year old female he was raised with a couple times.......and that was it for him and the breed. I watch these videos all the time, but will never get another after knowing/seeing what the nature of the breed can harbor.
+Ed Harris - Its a Rank play...it happens in the dog world. It aint pretty, Many forget dogs are animals, barely removed from the wirld and the Akita even moreso
+Ed Harris Agree with Bill Wanke that this is a possibility. Akitas are one of the most primitive breeds today. This is also the age at which, if they are hypothyroidic, it starts to show. One of the symptoms is sudden aggression.
you need to be a more dominant owner. akitas require strong physical and mental punishments even for warning signs of aggression. it's a potentially very dangerous breed.. especially towards other animals and children. you should be doing tests like getting the weaker dog to share a food bowl with the other, allow the weaker dog to take the other dogs favorite toy, new bone etc. if there's even so much as tenseness or a negative shift in body language (which will both happen before a growl or attack) you need to dominate the situation and let the aggressive dog know that won't slide. either 1) have it on a pinch collar and give a level 9/10 correction (HARD) and yell NO!!!!!! or 2) another option is to grab the dog by the scruff of the neck and push and hold it down on its side very firmly and once again yell NO BAD DOG! these aren't golden retrievers, the have a lot of dominance and aggression in their breed characteristics. they are known to challenge their owners and be dog aggressive, you can't let that slide. ever. this breed can easily go from dominant to vicious, and most people don't recognize the warning signs of dominance.
Thanks for the reply......but maybe you missed the part I mentioned having the breed for 20 years. All those years were not without a couple issues, but the viciousness of the last one was more than I would ever want to see again.
We have got an Akita who was knocked down at 18 months old and after great deliberation we decided to have his left leg amputated -that was 9 years ago and he has been a fabulous pet and had a great life - i8n fact our vet said that he had restored his faith in the breed - such a gentle dog
I'd be crazy in stating I want a 3rd...I've never had 3 dogs...let alone 3 akitas, 2 keep me busy enough but I love them so much, such an amazing breed!
My brother has an American Akita and we love her so much, she is beautiful, friendly, caring, loving and very loyal. She also is a great protector at my flat and also my brother's flat. Life with her is absolutely fantastic and she makes our family complete. Her name is SUKI and she is 17 months old. I love Akita's they are my favourite dogs in the world. They are so special also the most beautiful dogs on the planet. I love all dogs but there is something very special about Akita's exactly like the great Hachiiko the greatest of them all. 🐕🐶❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
My Akita Emma is 9 months old, is black and white and so much fun! She is so good at playing with other dogs little or big. I have a Pomeranian, Keeshond ,Yorkipoo and her and they all get along wonderfully. She can be a handful but it is worth it. Love this site thanks
Beautiful photos of Akitas and the land. Those of you that have not owned an Akita need to know there are the dog show type who have been bred for looks and the Real Akitas that have the spirit of the original Akitas bred to hunt bear, boar and dog fight. If you get the latter you need to know they are awesome protectors but can cause you grief if they dont have the correct home, training, strong master and no other large dominate type dogs of the same sex cuz the Akita will want to destroy it
I love akitas too I have friend that has female Akita name mika very sweet.thx for featuring this majestic breed man have good bite and good luck with the rest.
What a awesome video of Akita's. I love it! There are so many beautiful Akitas in that video. I have had many dogs in the past, but I just got my first full blooded Akita and he is now 15 months old. I love him to death. My only worry is living out in a very rural area he doesn't get much socialization, and has started becoming very protective of me. The other thing I noticed about Akita's they are very prey driven. If he see's an animal he wants to take off and chase it. I feel bad keeping him on a leash so much, but I'm afraid he would take off and not come back or something would happen to him. Anyway, probably my last great dog I'll ever have as I'm getting older and probably won't have anymore after he leaves or me? Thanks for the video!
@mudshovel007 Temperament is as important an issue as the genetic/physical traits of Akitas. Our Akita pup was brought to his new home and immediately placed in a wire crate with a netherland rabbit. This was done ONLY after observing both parents. The puppy knew who the alpha male was(in spite of the size difference). Completely comfortable with rabbits running between his legs, over his face, or sitting on top of his food in his bowl. YOU have to become that Akita's alpha male...
i love my akita so much! she has all my heart i wake up every morning with a smile on my face because of her, shes saved my life as i have saved her! i will do anything and lay my life on the line for her because i know she would to! AKITA= BEST DOG EVER!!!!!
My Akita had bloat (gastric torsion), thank God I got him to the hospital in time. He had major surgery but he if fine today. This is my 2nd Akita. I love him so much, he is a huge male. Strong as an ox. But he is 7 how and I noticed he is a little more aggressive than he used to be. He was always protective, but some people he just doesnt like and I am leery, because he is so powerful. He is pinto. Beautiful dog. People always ask for he is a St. Bernard. Or "what is that". Like they never say a dog before. He loves to stand on the lean of my car and stick his head out of the sun roof. Its a sight.
Hi Rose & Peter, Not a wolf, More a teddy bear with attitude and a bit more self-confidence than other breeds. Needs strong, loving, and confident owner willing to devote at least 20 minutes twice a day to cardio/aerobic exercise. In humans as well as dogs, this regimen helps dispel frustration/stagnation.. Keep researching this breed thoroughly as there's a difference between American Akita and original Japanese Akita. Good Luck!.
this is so wonderful i love mine i call him hachiko like the one from the 1920s that waited for his master at the train station his is like my big teddy bear dog he started small and now he is a big boy now this is such a very good song for this thank you for up loading and i will join both of your web sites .
I'm owned by two Shiba Inus, related to their cousin Akita. My red and white Torunaga will always be in my heart. At 15, his legacy could very well live on in our house in an Akita. I'm sure the personalities will be similar. No worries though, Torunaga is very strong and vibrant still.
Like ppl , although we are all humans, we all look different, & the features proves it, just like 🐕, although same breed features will differ,to distinguish, Never saw a red _ white Akita, what a beautiful aminal
Akitas are dominant dogs...the only way you would want to akitas in the house is if they were raised from very little babies together or if they were a male n female...she will prolly teach ur young male puppy how to act n he will respect her...I got my female first n my male next n they would get into it sometimes but she was the boss from the beginning
love my akita. hes a red janese breed naned Pete. smartest dog ever. i used to leave him in the kennel while i was at work, i came home me hone day bnd he had drank all the water out of his water dish, the water bowl was fastened to the side of the cage so he had to pop his back legs up onto the side of the kennel, so he could have sonewhere to pee other than the floor of his cage.
Wow , just wow. These animal are just so immensely beautiful. I love my Oscar so much, he is so good with little kids and is so affectionate, all he wants to do is lick and hug you!
We have a new member at home is an American Akita who came 2 months ago with 6 months of age, we have never had a dog as big as him, we were thinking about accepting it or not, but in the end we were completely convinced. To adopt him, he has been the best decision we have made, he is adorable, at first he was full of energy, so desided to take him on a long walk every day, we walked to the park which is a mile from home, run freely At my side, well, run, stop, go wherever I want, but always look where I am and run to me. In the end we go back home, and he knows it's time to put the leash on him. The doubt I have is; If it is normal after arriving home to drink a lot of water, sleep and sleep the rest of the day until the night, it is when you wake up and start acting like it's morning, wanting to spend all night, You can stay All night , I leave him alone in the garage, and logically do not want to sleep, and spend all night watching the cars pass, and the dogs on the street, the good thing is that the barbarians hardly ever bark, Except when he looks at something He does not know what Is, although sometimes I had caught him barking somewhere that there is nothing, or as if he had seen a ghost or do not know what, he looks very scared, and when he sees me, Run quickly to hide under my legs, then I go to the grill and I can't see nothing that makes him be afraid.
Mine drinks tons of water, generally lays around the house, they can be somewhat sedentary. Your dog could be barking at anything, a small animal, a person far away, you just may not have seen it. Their senses are insane, mine will start barking when I'm a block away if she is outside cause she knows I'm coming. They don't generally show fear like yours, but they all have different personalities. Hopefully he wasn't abused before you got him, but he might grow out of this as they are very brave dogs and don't back down from anything. Most of what you said sounds normal, they have quirky personalities and some of the things they do seem weird to us, but it's very typical
I love Akitas and all that it represents, most wonderful loving dog. I own an Akita, her name is Lana and she is the joy of our lives, she is very sweet and she is always acting like a lady, even when she walks, she rarely barks and she is very friendly and gentle. I love my Lana.
I am a Akita Mom and they are incredibly intelligent and intuitive. I am so much in love with this breed.
I had a number of different breeds and my female Akita is the best dog i have ever owned. She is a blessing
What beautiful pictures. Once you've owned an Akita, there is no other breed. They are just the best! Thanks for sharing
I wish I had found this breed when I was younger. I have a 5 year old male, Tomodachi, and I will be in my late 60's by the time he passes. Best breed, best dog, period. Akitas are Canine Royalty, and other dogs know it.
Yes, that's exactly the way to define Akita's...Canine Royalty.
My Akita, Jess, died three months ago :'( We miss her so much. its amazing how stubborn they can be, but i love mine so much

Great comment, I love akitas. Akitas are my favorite breed and I actually just got a new pup 2 days ago.
I miss my Akita she was wonderful unlike other dogs very independent more like two people cohabiting.
I have an American Akita since 7 years, is the best dog a person can ever want, they are really a blessing. I love him very much.
Beautiful... Just beautiful...I have been lucky enough to have been loved by two akita's and they are truly a blessing for me..
Beautiful animals 😍my sister had an Akita and when she died the whole family was heart broken 💔she still is to this day missed 🐾

I love my Chewie. He's only a year old, so we've got him for a good 12 or 13 more years, but he is amazing. He's the cutest dog I have ever had
This makes me miss my beautiful, beloved Princess Charlotte Bear who passed 7 years ago in my arms. So dignified in life and death. She was, as Helen Keller called them, my "angel in fur". Very nice akitas!
Thank you for sharing this amazing breed 😊👍
Thank you so much for that beautiful video. I wish everyone could experience a life with a Akita! they don't know what they are missing!!!
Akitas are not meant to be owned by most people. Different breed from most dog breeds
Stunning, I have a very dark pinto male American Akita, they are so very intelligent, quick to learn and beautiful, his most recent trick was to learn how to pull the levers on the french doors down so now he can open them. I have had no real issues with him, it's all about understanding this magnificent breed.

Lovely video
My dog, Toshi was just 7 and he died from bloat last night. Just collapsed and died in front of my kids. Family is heartbroken
i think akitas are the best most beautiful dog in the whole wide world
I'm owned by two Shiba Inus, related to their cousin Akita. My red and white Torunaga will always be in my heart. At 15, his legacy could very well live on in our house in an Akita. I'm sure the personalities will be similar. No worries though, Torunaga is very strong and vibrant still.
We have an Akita and she is the best, so loyal, sweet but dn't mess with her when the bears come around the house
You got my like before watching 7 seconds
Ill be getting an akita soon...idk why but im so drawn to the akitas with the black coat with white on the chest and paws
Like ppl , although we are all humans, we all look different, & the features proves it, just like 🐕, although same breed features will differ,to distinguish, Never saw a red _ white Akita, what a beautiful aminal
Beautiful pics, lovely music. Thank you.
We have an Akita/Siberian mix. A blond Akita mix, like Hachi.
😍😍😍😍👍👍👍Hermosos Peluditos
Sorry for your loss
Beautiful!

Nice dog breed, maybe get one next time..
Pretty dogs! They look strong. Are they a kind of wolf?
Love,
Peter
