scraderz220, Thanks for the video. I've had two Akitas and they are the most loyal friends I ever had. Akitas are so fasinating because of their personality and behavior. I rescued both from bad owners and they changed into great dogs in my care.
My parents bred Akitas when I was a kid. Of all the breeds I've ever come across, I love Akitas the most. They can be kind of high maintenance, but if you give them enough space, owning one TOTALLY worth it. These dogs are SO POWERFUL! I've seen them bend chain link fences so that they could escape and chase wildlife, poop on other neighborhood dogs' heads to show dominance (not even kidding!) and jump right into a lake to chase a fish that jumped. You'll never be bored with one of these guys!
You are both are correct so let's stop arguing! I have an 14 year old keiko best dog I have ever had. Will miss her some day but this is not it still live and kickiing
I think you should maybe read more about them. They all originate in Japan, & the 'Akita' which you refer to as the American Akita (not even the AKC does) originally comes from Japan. It comes from the Dewa line which more closely resembles the original Akita then does the current Akita Inu which was bred from the Ichinoseki line & selectively bred for preferred bone structure and colour. The Japanese redefined the breed through selective breeding. The AA has less interference, it IS Japanese!
The breed is from one place Japan. They were brought over by military personnel and crossbreed with either German shepards or mastiff and yes they are classed as different breeds because of it but in know way are they any different outside their size and facial features. Ask any vet in their bloodine. Only the purest will argue over it and most never owned one. So whom cares what the hell they think! The damn dogs don't care!
Yes akitas were hunting dogs and home dogs before they were introduced to american soil. American Akita in other hand isnt a pure akita its was mixed with many different dog breeds to make a perfect figting dog...
In many different countries like: Japan,Finland,Belgium,Poland,Sweden,Norway,Canada and China American Akita and Akita(Inu) are totally different breeds.. Learn your facts before arguing with others. usa is one few places where its still seen as the same breed
I worry about my akita jumping through glass all the time. He has jumped through screens 2 or 3 times. I don't remember. I can't have my windows open...
This video is painfully inaccurate. In most parts of the world, American Akitas and Akita Inu (Japanese Akitas) are different breeds with different definitions of standard appearance. Akita Inu were bred as big game hunting dogs, not fighting dogs. There were no Japanese Akitas shown in that video, so people claiming they're the same dog need to learn the difference.
Maybe you are the one who needs to know more about the breed I think. There is only one official organisation in the world that refers to this dog as an "American Akita", this is an "Akita", & as scraderz said, that's what this video is about, not the Akita Inu. Also, as you're from the US, maybe you should have known already that the AKC doesn't refer to the 'Akita' as the 'American Akita' either. "Better to keep your mouth shut & be thought a fool, than to open your mouth & remove all doubt."
ALL! Akita's are descendants from Japan! A Japanese Wolfe to be exact. get over your ego's and deal with it! Only on RUclips have I seen so much blatant ignorance...
@lilmsgreenleaf LMAO hmm maybe you shouldn't post a comment when you know nothing, you really need research the Akita and kennel clubs around the world, you obviously know nothing the 'american' akita isn't a breed at all just a name given to them and this video is about the 'akita' not japanese akita inu ! ohh some people make me laugh
I rescued an Akita 10 years ago and the best friend I ever had!!!!! So strong and beautiful.

Love how the video constantly says "AKITA" and everyone arguing over American or Japanese. Get over it

This video is pretty uninformative of the Akita's personality.
