I install and configure a Parkvision Pro backup camera with off-center adjustment to replace the one I originally bought from Camera Source. This started off as a quick install review video and became a full install video when I realized I had to run a new extension cable from the head unit to the trunk instead of just swapping the camera. The new cable I ran ended up being compatible any other camera that use an RCA video cable.
Here is some additional info about the various tC year differences:
    • 2011 tCs: The factory headunit doesn't appear to support a backup camera.
    • 2012 tCs: Despite not being listed, I got confirmation from a 2012 owner that said you can use the 2013 harness. See the 2013 tC note about the reverse trigger wire.
    • 2013 tCs: These tCs require extra work. You will need to wire in the reverse trigger wire from the 28 pin power harness to the reverse taillight harness. You can find more info at www.autoharnesshouse.com/1986.... Below are pictures provided by the afore mentioned 2012 owner.
    🖼 Pin 2 is Reverse Trigger: photos.app.goo.gl/Wq5TNHbB6f7...
    🖼 Behind Lower Dash: photos.app.goo.gl/mi69AEq69mZ...
🖼 Pink Wire is Reverse Lights: photos.app.goo.gl/eLCVs5b3axX...
    • 2014+ tCs: These are just plug and play as they have the reverse wire connected from factory.

    Derrick,
After e-mailing Parkvision and inquiring about their two cameras PJ-120-Pro and ZL-115S I opted for the ZL-115-S model. Kudos to Parkvision as they answered me back within a couple hours with a nice breakdown of each model. While I appreciated the adjustment of the Pro 120 model I was not going to use the parking lines and luckily with smaller size of the camera I was able to mount it close to center of the car. The ZL-115S model has superior night time visibility and more pixels as well. I didn't even have to drill a hole as I extended the "notch" above the license plate and slid the camera in to place.
    Camera:
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V234GNN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I paired it with this wiring harness:
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E0N9LAW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The harness did come with the reverse trigger wire which I needed for my 2013 tC 8.0 Release model.
So with the camera, harness, electrical supplies, and a million zip ties I paid just about $50.00, not a bad deal.
Thank You again for this video as it made my job so much easier. I bought you a "coffee" for your help. Keep up the great videos on your tC as it is much appreciated by the Scion community.

Hey just curious if you have any idea why mine would have stopped working. I’ve got a 2016 radio in my 2011. It worked until about a year ago. Harness is ran correctly, checked all wires and my trigger wire directly behind the radio is getting power, but even inserted into the pin, my radio doesn’t do anything when I shift the car into reverse. I would think even if the camera had gone bad that the screen would change on shift. I feel like I’ve tried everything but just curious if I could be missing something. Thanks!

    • @VampyreX13
      @VampyreX13  Год назад

Not sure what's going on, but you are correct. Even if the camera was not working, the screen should at least flip over to black when you go in reverse. I would unplug the harness on both sides and try to test the wires with a multimeter to make sure there's no break in them. Also make sure none of the pins in the harness going to the stereo are bent.
