    I can't believe they are saying that his movies aren't iconic. As a person who grew up with movies like kuch kuch hota hai and kal ho na ho, you have made very iconic movies, Karan, and we relate our childhood to them. He is also one of the most charismatic people I have ever seen, with the most engaging interviews. Take a bow sir.

    Despite what people may think about him, Karan Johar is indeed an interesting person to listen to. He has so much knowledge about the film industry and the fact that he's so honest about himself is an impressive quality. He knows that there will always be a certain section of people that will not take him seriously as a filmmaker. He knows that people troll him incessantly. But he has accepted his situation and is not constantly trying to seek validation from others which is such a brave thing to do. He's going to make films the way he wants to and be unapologetic about it irrespective of other people's opinions. By the way Anupama is a good interviewer. I've always liked her interviews with Karan Johar.

    As an Indian who grew up in America, Karan Johar’s films have been landmark in helping me and many many others like me find our Indian identity and actually be proud of it. Cult films like kabhie khushi kabie gham, kuch kuch hota hai, kal ho na ho have had a greater impact on my life than can be described. They are literally my comfort place because I associate them with the happiest part of my life - when I was 5 or 6. They were family movies, that everyone sat in the living room and enjoyed and there’s just no comparison to that feeling. As I grew up, I was shocked to learn that people in India don’t actually appreciate this man or his work. It’s saddening because he’s genuinely talented - his movies may not be for everyone but not every movie has to be ground breaking in its approach, some of them can just be feel good movies that take you home. The reason there exists a grand and gorgeous image of Bollywood around the world is because of this man - something I can deeply appreciate because for a large part of my life growing up, people just looked at me and thought I come from this dirty slum called India. So sure, realistic cinema is appreciated but there is also an audience that appreciates the beautiful part of things.

I hope this gives way to more positivity n everyone can just celebrate Hindi films like they do all other films.

    • @utsav2776
      @utsav2776 2 года назад +7

      Look how these people in the reply section are defending the South Indian movies. They proved my point. People in south love their movies n stars and there is no negativity. Even if they don't like some of their South movie, they won't tear it apart by giving devastating reviews or abusing the actors, directors. In bollywood, it's totally opposite. If people don't like a movie of if the movie did not live up to its hype they wud go out of their way to ridicule every single thing about the movie. Fans of one star would fight with fans of other star as if their life depends on it. Reviewers are easily bought by rivals to spread negativity about a particular movie of their competitor so that a perceived negative word of mouth can be spread to bring down the movie. So, all of it happens that affects Bollywood. Also, you wouldn't find any hindi film viewer going out of his way to defend their loved films, contrary to what these people in the reply section are doing.

    Love his self-awareness, proves why he's been so successful as a marketer and producer. He's an ok director but the fact that he realises that and knows his target audience are either NRIs or aspirational folks, speaks a lot about his experience. Yes 90's n 2000s were about flashy films directors like him made, but he is smart to know a K3G will never work today, and thus his sharp intuitiveness about the market.

    • @Finnola
      @Finnola 2 года назад

      Don't think so as those "pan india" films are the run of the mill but better made and performed. All this guy did is take advantage of their stars and its fan base and got more money with nationwide release. Every telugu and Tamil big budget spectacle can earn 500 crore in South India itself, with rest of the country it got 2x the money. Other than that bahubali, rrr or kgf can earns it audience on their own since it's just another entertainer that audience post pandemic will find worth spending money on. There'll be more success from big telugu films because bollywood has lost its creativity in making even big budget entertainers as it did in the past and audience are giving chance to actors from other industries. With ott one can get used to seeing other industries so bollywood doesn't have the luxury of being exclusive now.
