      If you get no wheel lug nut movement that means that the wheels are torqued to at least 95' ft-lbs or higher. If you want to be accurate break them all loose a quarter turn and then retorque to your factory spec. Then retorque 60 miles later again.

    The impact socket is made from slightly softer but more ductile material. It is less likely to split with impact motion.
    The hand should be in the center of the handle. More expensive torque wrenches have a smooth ring on the handle to show where the force should be applied. The force should be perpendicular to the handle. Clicking more than will increase torque with each click. These minute things will not affect torque on cars with wide range of torque value, but in more precise application do make a difference.

    • @bbkmm1
      @bbkmm1 4 года назад

      @@revmatchtv You bet. You do have some very good points. Such as Ft-Lb being the correct unit for torque per ASME, and extensions changing torque. I believe that misnomer comes from impact wrenches. Since the springiness of the extension will absorb some of the impact motion then counteracts the desired direction of the impact wrench. A slow and steady force on the torque wrench will have no appreciable effect on the torque. Unless the head is not supported and it's no longer a perpendicular force to the nut.

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад

      Yes. For most automotive applications as long as you keep the force perpendicular and use a smooth motion you should be more than fine.

    Excellent video. At first I thought it seemed long, but you cover a lot. What I miss is the about holding the wrench, because the measurement is based on the lever-arm length. I was hoping you would cover the correct hand location when using the torque wrench. Like properly using it from the handle, and centering, usually with the middle finger on the groove of the knurled handle.

    Hello. So, I "rented/borrowed" a torque wrench from O'Reilly's. Need to do head bolt to 44 ft lbs, plus 90 degrees. Did first 8 on one head to 44, moved dial to 55 so I could add the 90 degrees. Then went to second head. Dialed back down to 44. Busted bolt. Looking at instructions, which I didn't bother to do initially, it says that when resetting wrench, always go back to zero. Is this common knowledge? Because the guy at the store didn't say anything, and I've looked at a couple of videos online that also didn't mention this. Is that why my bolt busted, because it was still set at 55, or was that wrench just faulty? Or maybe a bad bolt? I was using new bolts.

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  Год назад

      I'm not really sure what the issue is, but there's no such thing as 'resetting' a torque wrench. After you're done using it, you should set it back to 0 however for storage since it will become inaccurate if you leave the spring compressed for a long time. On another note, you really shouldn't be trying to torque down a head if you have no experience. It might look simple, but it's a delicate operation with extremely expensive consequences if not done right.

These all have a spinning thing at the bottom. Does anyone know how to use a normal torque wrench and not a mythical one that gets pulled down. Hey mate, came across your old vid and read your comment regarding this vid. Bit confused with my TOPTUL ANAG1208 wrench. So NM is fine since it has whole numbers but for Ft-Lb it has decimals engraved on the wrench. For eg. it starts from 14.7, 22.1, 29.5 and goes up to 81.1 and on the handle it has numbers from 0-9 and marks between each number for eg. 0|1|2|3 you get the idea. Can you please advise on how the hell do i read Ft-Lb. its driving me nuts. Thanks and keep up the great vids mate!

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад

      Ft-lb is just another unit of measurement. The higher the number, the more torque you'll get before you hear the click. If you're aiming for 23 lb-ft start at 22.1 and turn the dial up to 9. It's confusing because your wrench is mapping the NM to lb-ft in a strange way. Generally the values will be 20, 30, 40 etc. Just add up the number on the shaft and the number on the dial to get to your desired spec. Or buy a different torque wrench that's easier to use.

    • @Adok24
      @Adok24 4 года назад

      RevMatchTV thanks for the reply but you misunderstood me. My wrench is just like yours in the vid doesn’t look the same but it has Ft-Lb which is (pound feet) on one side and on the other side it has NM. NM is engraved in whole numbers where as ft-lb isn’t. Got issue reading the decimals for ft-lb and dont know how to go about it. Wish i could attach a pic here for you. Would have made it much easier to understand what i was saying.

    Why does every video on tourqe wrench don't go over multiple tourqe setting valves and how to do that like head bolts have to be done at 22 then 44 then 66 as final setting on 4.3 vortec v6 and someone said I set it at 22 then redo 3 times and don't raise the value on handle and don't see how redoing at 22lbs 3 times without adjusting handle will tourqe it to 66lbs and feel not correct and must do at 22 by handle then move handle to 44 then redo bolts then move valve again on handle to 66 and redo bolts for the third time to get to 66 final tourqe setting but not covered in videos and guessing that this never comes up and seems obvious to me to move the handle value up as you go but got someone saying don't and my first engine head and first time using tourqe wrench and into a job deep lol

    How bout on an inch pound torque wrench...does each digit when turned (1-10) equal to one digit or multiples of ten or what?? Nobody seems to covers this stuff with a inch pound torque wrench....Math challenged old inch pound torque wrench folk need love too. LOL!

      Look at the dial. As you rotate the dial it will tell you what fraction you're at. It's not mulitples of ten. It's the number on the dial. It's exactly the same as any torque wrench.

    I thought extensions changed the torque value. Meaning 130 on the wrench wont be 130 when the extension is involved.

    Why not an impact wrench for the job

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад +1

      Because I’m teaching people how to use a torque wrench. You cannot get accurate torque with an impact and you can easily damage a bolt or stud.

      RevMatchTV agree. But you could tighten but not specs first?

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад +1

      IF you know how to use one correctly and not jam on the bolt. Most people don’t know how to do this. This video is aimed at beginners.

      RevMatchTV I’m an impact beginner for sure. But a cordless impact used in lower setting used carefully by first tightening by hand could be a simple option

      Jeff W Take your time, go slowly and learn how to tighten the nut so it has barely any pressure on it and then finish it with the torque wrench.

    OK if this is vital why don’t car manufacturers include A torque wrench?

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад +2

      Because it's added cost and 99.999% of people don't work on their own cars.

    You're the second guy on these vids I've seen say that saying "foot-lbs." is incorrect (even though it says "ft-lbs." on the wrench itself!) Why do you think you know that "ft.-lbs." is incorrect? Where did you gain this truth?

    • @revmatchtv
      @revmatchtv  4 года назад +2

      According to the Society of Automotive Engineers applying torque to a fastener is expressed in pound-foot. If you're interested you can Google it. It's on their website.
      Google "Gary W. Pollak, P.E., Program Manager for the Society of Automotive Engineers" and you'll see the reference. The SAE is considered the standard. Good question!
