We owned a female red Chow Chow from 1984 to 1996. One summer day, our two year old son managed to open the garden gate. Shardy followed after him as he toddled down the street. We came sprinting out of the house as we saw them turning the corner towards a busy road. Shardy was walking between our son and the road. Suddenly, the boy went to cross the road - as a van was coming down the hill. Shardy grabbed him by the back of his jeans and pulled him back onto the pathway, thus saving his life. Chow Chows certainly do protect their family.
I've had one of these dogs, a black female, she was an absolute treasure to have and we adored her, we got her when the Sugar Puff bear was on the telly and everywhere we went children crowded around us to stroke her as they thought she was a bear. She loved every minute of the attention and was very gentle with everybody. When our children came along she was very protective towards them and when they went to bed she would lay at the bottom of the stairs till we went to bed. In the morning whoever got up first she would greet them and then dash upstairs to greet the children and then wait downstairs and wait for her porridge with the children. We had her about twelve years and we were all devastated when she died and still think and talk about her everyday. That was in 1982 and she's still in our hearts and will be as long as we live.
Akosi Dogie Fan. Thank you, it was a long time ago now but we still miss her, never had another one because she can't be replaced and we couldn't go through the heartbreak we felt when she died again.
Loved that she's teaching her kids the importance of daily grooming and letting them do it and get comfortable with it. Seems like a great dog and human parent :)
@Yar Nunya First of all, I'm not a parent. Second, even proffesional groomers wear masks to prevent hair getting into their mouth, it could cause lung disease.

I have a gray chow chow, she’s the love of my life. My dad loves her but as soon as I come back from university she doesn’t leave my side. She doesn’t care about strangers and will ignore them. She’s really silly and has quite some quirky habits, I’m so happy to see this kind of video.
@@panthersfan6073 My neighbor has 2 chows, and they're the sweetest boys ever. They want love & attention 24/7 lol...I've always heard how aggressive & stand offish they were, and I'm sure some are, but Bo & Cal are such love muffins. I was a bit apprehensive when I first met them, but within 2 min, they owned my heart. You're so lucky to have such a special breed 😊
A good demonstration of how loving chows can be! I have owned two and they were. wonderfully faithful companions and are never aggressive to cats or kids.
We had our black chow. Cole for almost 16yrs. She was the the best dog ever. She would follow me on my daily walks. She jumped between me and 2 snakes when I was 6. She was barely a yr old at the time. We grew up together.she would always sing. It was a sad day when she was in pain. And couldn't stand on her own anymore. I would go out every day to help her stand to go on her potty walk. One day she sang a sad sounding song. She was telling us she was ready. She all but gave her paw to our vet. When we had her put to sleep.
I got my chow, Freya from the shelter about a year ago. When we got her we were warned that she would be difficult to deal with. I had experience with Chow’s temperament before so when I met her I could tell she was a sweet dog, just shy of strangers. A year later, Freya is the most loving and loyal dog I’ve ever had. I think she has suffered from trauma from being abandoned and she is a bit nervous at times, and very protective of our house. However when we are out going for a walk she is always so friendly and lovable! She walks up to people to say hello and is always checking in on me. Chows are great dogs and I’ll be getting another sometime soon ❤️
I had a chow chow 50 years ago as a 10 yr old. No one had ever seen one where I lived. We had total strangers constantly running across the road upto her to stroke her velvet furry head, ignoring my instructions to leave her alone as she didn't really like it. She was quite a timid natured dog who like her own space and wanted to play on her terms.😊She was the most beautiful dog I have ever seen. She liked to lay half in the cold hallway with the lounge door open and her head in the lounge to keep her eye on us whilst we huddled near the fire. Winters back then were quite bad but she came alive in the snow and cold temperatures. They do need regular grooming to keep that coat looking immaculate. Now that I'm retired I might get another one. Chow chows hold a special place in my heart.
The personalities of your chow chows are a credit to you. You clearly make a grand effort to socialise them and have given them the time and effort to magnificently bond with you.
My sister in law raised Chows for years, had quite a few champions in her lines, they are amazing dogs, I will agree they are protective and as with any animal, if they are abused they can become mean. Like the lady says tho, it's all in how you interact with any dogs. You must have respect. I had 2 and loved mine very much. ❤
My sister had a chow he loved me to death i took care of him for a year or two. Moved away for school. Came back and he hated me every time he saw handed to take a chunk out of me.
my grandmother bred them for many years and had 14 at one stage but yet not one of them were aggressive, I helped her birth a puppy and he was my baby! most placid soft dog I have ever had! nurture if nature in my opinion 🙂 any dog can be aggressive
I am amazed at how friendly these dogs are to Anneka who I assume is a stranger to them. My 2 chows are not aggressive but they take a long time to warm up to people. Mine are incredibly friendly and loyal to family but shy around strangers. But then again Anneka probably exudes a warm vibe to all dogs.
I think it’s best to adopt a chow chow when they’re still a small puppy, because then they’ll grow up being used to socialising, petting, cuddling, etc. Unfortunately, most dogs that end up in shelters as adults come from extremely abusive and horrendous backgrounds, and that really affects the behaviour of chow chows. Of course, any dog can be rehabilitated, but if you want a chow who will get along with other dogs, kids, different humans, etc, the safest bet is to get a puppy and raise them affectionately.
We rescued a stray chow, he was still less than a year old and a rescued chow, she was 2-3 when we got her, same age as our stray. Our children lived to be 17 years old, we fed them raw for over half their lives and it really did eliminate trips to the vet beyond checkups and teeth cleanings until the last few years when old age had its impact. I have never felt love for someone else or from someone else as deeply as I felt it with my Chow children. Both our Chows were black, which essentially made them invisible at night when they were outside. My wife felt a degree of peace and safety that not even a gun could bring her when she was out with one or both of our babies. A few men tried to approach her when she would go on her walks with our precious pair. One man thought his dog connection would be a way to meet my wife. He talked about how dogs love him and how good he is with animals and she said "If you come any closer, there is a good chance you'll have to go to the hospital. If you don't want to be attacked by my two chows, please STOP where you are." We didn't raise them to be attack dogs, but their sense of guardianship is intense and constant. As long as my wife or I managed a meet and greet with new humans, after a few minutes they would ignore them, which meant they past the test. If for some reason they could never pass the test even if they followed our exact instructions - then that was a red flag for us because Chows don't lie. I could talk forever about my love of Chow Chows and my 15+ years of wonderful memories of being a Chow Parent. Thank you for making a video about Chows, I've always loved your show. Any woman that lets wolves stick their tongues down her throat has a serious commitment to the Canine Family.
That is your opinion supported by what? Of course all dogs benefit from early socialization. I have volunteered for years in chow rescue and have worked with hundreds of shelter dogs and find your statements to be uninformed and false.
We have 3 Chow Chows, all MA certified. All I ask from people is please “Don’t approach from the side”, Chow Chows have zero peripheral vision. The are great family members. Very loving. Peace.
Chow chows are my favorite dogs. They look like soft teddy bears, but are independent, extremely loving and sweet to people they love, but sometimes can be wary of strangers and will not tolerate people threatening their loved ones...they are literally me in puffy dog form
My Chow Chow named Bear was a good and loyal dog. He was very protective and loved us so much. He's been gone for 8 years now and we still miss him so much. Looking at the black Chow Chow brought so many memories back.
My Chow Chow was just like the black one in this video, so affectionate and loving with a beautiful nature, the only time she ever barked was when we were in bed and someone tried to break in the back door, did they get a shock when she let rip she frightened us because she had never barked before, I jumped out of bed to see someone climbing over our back wall, she used to sleep against the door because she loved the cool draught from under the door. That black one was the spitting image of ours, my next door neighbour bought a male red one but he was never as friendly as ours, they can be a little wary of strangers but with family their very protective and loving.
I love my US born rescued chows. I've had 5. My first two males were actually friendlier than my current females. When my son was a baby my male chow protected him like his own puppy. My girls , who have come from shelters, are not friendly with strangers, but love the family dearly.
There's nothing like a Chow, nothing. When they love you, it's overwhelming. I'm 74. I'm in my 8th year with my 5th Chow. I hope he's around as long as my last 2 Chows. They lived 15 & 16 years respectively. I hope I have enough life in me to raise 1 more before I cash it in. My current Chow is very large. He is 6 inches taller at the withers then standard and weighs 120#. He is a rough coat shaded cinnamon. He's not fat, just big. We walk 5 miles everyday regardless of the weather. He loves being outside and he loves the water. It's hard to keep him out of it. I cook his dinner every night. He gets rice with 10 oz of cooked meat, 1 hard-boiled egg, vegetables and some cooked sweet potatoes topped with shredded cheddar cheese. It's balanced and it's healthy.
My chow chow, Cream, was my absolutely favorite dog to date! She was quite violent w unfamiliar people, but despite that she was so sweet and gentle with me as a young child. Saved me from a lot of discipline from my parents hehe
In my humble opinion, I've always, always thought of Chow Chows as the most beautiful dogs period. They memorize me and I can't keep my eyes off of them.
I live in the States and I had a Chow Chow red cinnamon and her name was Sasha. Sad to say she has passed years ago. But she was a gentle nature and very loving and smart. Beautiful dogs.
The black Chow-Chow seemed to be the most afectionate one from the pack. And she loved to be spoiled with afection. This breed looks so fluffy and cute but seems very independent as well!
I grew up with two chows and I loved them both so so much. Our female was black and MASSIVE, 75 lbs lean with a high protection drive. Even as a puppy, she would try to protect us from the larger dogs at the store while hiding behind our legs (we had to stop bringing her after awhile). She was 110% our guard dog through and through and despite her high, feminine bark, she was ALL teeth and I would have felt awful for anyone dumb enough to try to come into our home. She was high-strung and passed away fairly young just after her tenth birthday. Our male however…… was tiny and an absolute puffball. Frosty was my dog. He followed me everywhere and was extreeeeemely good with people. I actually worked with a few people in my neighborhood who’d had previous bad experiences with the breed to help overcome their fear of them and to help teach them what they can really be like when trained properly. He was 45 lbs at his heaviest and a lovely cream that got darker in the winter. I could do literally anything to this dog from something as simple as plucking fluff to petting him with As long as we were touching in some way, he was happy and taking a nap. He tried to protect me from geese once and often kicked up with a deep bark if our female started up first. He lived to 14.5 and I was devastated when Mom made the call to put him down (I live two hours away). He was THE best and it’s because of him that I would like to rescue a how or two later down the line.
I loved my Chow Chow! She was very protective and didn't like anyone coming too close to me! She would lay across my bedroom doorway when we were alone and if another person tried to enter my room she would get up and stand in front of me
Best breed ever! Very loyal, protective and clean... I've had several and never had to housebreak (potty) any of them. They just seem to know to go outside to do that. Lots of grooming required though!
Ours was 3 months shy of 16 when he passed. The best smartest most loving dog we've ever had. He was a pure breed with a grand national champion as a grand dad. He as a natural seizure detection dog. There is not a better dog on the planet.
My absolute favorite breed of dog ever. Since first I saw one, then I met one, then I owned one and fell in love. One of my favorite things was to get up early and have a cup of tea with Sheva and we would sit quietly next to each other and just enjoy the sunrise. Such a calm dog she was. Very quiet yet very present.
I'm an American chow owner. I've had chows all my life. Many Americans perceive them to be aggressive but many have also never heard that reputation before. Whether or not a dog turns out to be aggressive is almost always entirely dependent on the owner's actions. If you socialize them, they will be like any other dogs. My current chow has been socialized since I got him at 11 weeks. However, he does not like being pet by strangers. He doesn't bite or get aggressive, he just ducks his head when they try to pet him. But he always does the play bow and wants to play with people. With me he is the biggest love bug and wants cuddles and kisses all the time.
Our chow German Shepard mix is the best dog I have ever owned. She is extremely polite naturally and self regulates her food (unlike our bird dogs). As a young puppy she was much too proud to ever make a mess in the house and potty trained herself. A vet told me once they are big biters because they often will not growl before they bite so people don’t know to back up.
Our family owns one and he’s going for 2 years now. People say that they tend to become aggressive but we’re so thankful he grew up to be such the most fluffy and friendliest dog that he is today. He’s doing really well and we’ll take good care of him so he’ll live a long and happy life!
I had a black chow named Teddy (AKC name was Theodore Baer), he was an absolute joy to have. We also had a miniature schnauzer, who was older, that showed him the ropes and turned Teddy into a great guard dog (the schnauzer was the boss and Teddy followed his lead quite well)....he was totally bonded to our immediate family but wanted nothing to do with anyone from the outside no matter how much we tried to socialize him. Once I grew up and got married he bonded with my son to the point where he sometimes wouldn't let me in the room when the baby was sleeping.....one of the best friends I've had in this life..... he's sorely missed
Yeah, chow chows can be very protective of their own. I used to walk one every day for 2 years and one night a drunk man came up to me and talked loudly. The man just wanted to ask for directions, but in the state he was in, Yang walked up in front of me and started growling softly and showing teeth just to let him know that no shady business will happen here 😅
I am glad there was mention of dedicating 10-15 minutes a day on brushing. It really goes a long way not just with Chows but any other long haired double coated dog (Husky, Malamute, Keeshond, right on down to the Pomeranian).
We got a chow-chow puppy when I was 10. When one talks about a breed ambassador, Cindy was it. She was faithful and incredibly patient, allowing my friends and I to dress her up and the little toddler neighbor to pull her tail and face and climb on her. She growled twice in her entire life, both times when there was a "strange" man in our backyard (one was a utility worker doing maintenance on the phone pole, the other was the other neighbor's oldest son climbing the fence to get a lost frisby). She was affectionate with everyone but stand-offish with adult men save for my dad and one other: my high school sweet heart whom I ended up marrying in no small part because Cindy immediately took to him. I will love chow-chows for the whole of my life.
@@marilynblotsky4085 Marilyn I appreciate the gesture but they are the one's that thank me with Love and kindness. I am rehabilitating and 3 yo Male that beat so badly it took over 4 months for Him to just let me touch Him for one second. He didn't do anything wrong some people don't deserve to share their life with Dog's that want nothing but to please and protect you.
You can never stop learning about this breed. My family always owned chows and now I’m raising one which is currently a little over a year. This is a breed that isn’t suppose to be taken lightly. It was a lot of work socializing but the end result was amazing. I love this breed to death and probably will always stay with this breed. The video is right though, the standard is a lot different in the US. Always wanted a U.K. chow but they’re hard to find :/
Tiramisu (the black one) seems especially friendly, I bet Annika wanted to take her home. I’ve been waiting forever to see a couple of Chow Chows who live next door to my friend’s parents. They’re called “Teddy” & “Oz” & they’re both orange, so I can see why one of them is called “Teddy”. I’ve not seen them much, but they are huge & beautiful. I hear that they’re friendly & love a fuss over their thick coats.
I grew up with a red chow chow and he managed to turn 14 years old before we had to put him down because of a massive tumor in his stomach. I still remember all the great times I had with him, he was so gentle and was an amazing guard dog but he was never aggressive. My nephew and his little sister were both crawling all over him when they were toddlers, and he would just walk off if he had enough. Even though he passed away 13 years ago, I still miss him every single day. Was the best dog I have ever had ❤❤
Everybody says the same thing about my beloved Rotts, Makitta. They have never harmed a living soul, including my little sisters. They protect me when I walk at night, and are loyal to a fault. It is all in how you love and train them...
My next door neighbor had a chow chow and she was extremely aggressive as well. I would be very cautious with these dogs. They also seem to gravitate towards one person only.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the dog is aggressive or mean. Chow Chows are territorial just like many other “dominant” or “aggressive” breeds. Thing is chow chows themselves are weary of strangers...it’s in their DNA. A dog can be a sweetheart/well socialized AND a fierce protector all in one believe it or not
A friend had a chow years ago, sad to say, that dog was a complete psycho. Very territorial, very possessive, very aggressive. And for some weird reason, it despised anybody wearing the color brown. UPS people were rightfully scared of that dog, and so were the local deputy sheriffs (who wore the same color brown). It even hated black people. They did a terrible job socializing it and that was the result. If you're going to get a chow, make sure that you're ready to put the work in to train it properly and get it used to people, and understand its traits. They are not hands-off puppers. And don't even think about getting one from a puppy mill. I honestly think there are bad bloodlines in the breed that are more prone to being hair-trigger and psycho.
I have owned three Chows.....two I could trust with anyone.....the third I got at a year old, and she had not been socialized well....and I unfortunately could not trust her around children. It kind of spoiled what was otherwise a fantastic experience with the breed...a more loyal, entertaining, and loving companion/guard dog you will not find. This woman's chows obviously have been bred for temperament, and have been well socialized.....lovely to see.
These dogs remind me of my very own chow chow, Chuchu. Amazing dogs. Can I say that this was one of the most quietest shows ever. I don’t remember a single bark with the older dogs. You have an amazing show, just found this. All the best!
I am an American who had Chow Chows for 17 years until we lost our Lilith earlier this year. The temperament of any dog is heavily dependent on the upbringing. Loki, our boy, was definitely more bullish and serious, but not mean. Lilith was an absolute angel and was sweet and docile with everyone, including the vet. This is a wonderful breed that does, unfortunately, have a bad, but undeserved rep in the US.
I am so amazed how sweet and affectionate they all are! Chow Chows are usually aloof, catlike, not lap buddies. These puff balls are so sweet and precious!!! I want one!!!❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🐾🐾🐾
Best episode yet thus for a been waiting for a Chow episode I used to have a purebred black Chow and the way that chow behaved in the video is exactly the way my chow behaved, loving, caring, gentle, cuddly, affectionit, protective, tons of personality, best dog ever,it just depends how u raise them, and how much real love u put in,is how much love the dog will give back.
@@user-et9xl3fr7n Spend a lot of time with them when they are puppies. They are pretty easy to train. If they are stubborn, try to firmly defuse those situations and reward them afterwards. Having an older dog helps alot too.
Gotta love chows. Such a misunderstood breed but they're so tender on the inside. My Moomin is very protective and standoffish but she warms up after a while. She loves dogs, but she's weary of strangers coming home as she doesn't like surprises. But once they warm up, they're the most loving, loyal and funny dogs. They don't want any trouble with anything or anyone, and they're lazy as heck xD
I absolutely love the chows I have a blue female chow and she's so sweet and adorable she's full of sugars and gives them freely to the family. She's playful and greets me when I get home by shaking her toy at me in her mouth she always bring me her favorite toy.she adds love and joy to our lives, and is most likely the best thing to come from China.I can't imagine anyone hurting them, let alone eating them.
I've had my boy Shadow going on 10 years. He won my heart over and he's literally my shadow.. He's getting a little white hair on his chin but plays like he's a young Pup. Love my Chow Chow 🤗💕
Such an amazing breed. This brought a tear to my eye, remembering my Red Chow Chow (Seven). We lost her to cancer at 13years old, she was truly an amazing family member. She was so smart and good with children. I cant say enough about how great the Chow is when raised properly
The black one couldn't't hide the love for Anneka!! such a sweet baby! but they are temperamental and it is really on their terms!!! I am surprise to see how sweet all of these babies are! I had one and She was not very friendly with strangers!!
I was in fluff heaven just looking at the video. I had ba Chow years ago and she was lovely, my Natasha. All these dogs are like fluffy angels....loved this video!!
Many years ago I had the blessing of volunteering at Adopt-A-Chow Foundation that rescued Chows and Chow mixes from kill shelters and owner surrender. It was so fun to be around the fluff balls, but it is true some have a more difficult temperament and just require a lot more patience and precaution (never approach from behind is true!) I adored watching this video and now want to be smothered in Chow-Chows! 🐶❤️
I've owned chow chows for many years & im in the states. None of mine were ever aggressive but very stand offish to people besides me. Not big cuddlers, yet always near me. Very smart & well behaved.
i was a police officer and I took more dog bite reports involving Chows 2nd only to Pit bulls over all other dogs. Pit bull attacked were much more damaging than other dogs. I find the Chow to be beautiful dogs I had a girl friend with three and her dogs were sweet hearts. My wife and I have Pomeranian dogs that kind of look like little Chows . i love your videos.
@@Animal-Watch Most the reasons dog bit people is their owners let them wonder the streets were I was a cop. The owner is responsible for their dogs behavior and in many cases the dogs temperate too especially pit bulls. When we showed up at dog incidents no one would claim ownership of the dog so it was hard to issue citations. Very sad ending for some of these dogs.
My dad lives on the Southside of Chicago and he had a gray one named Nashoba he loved barking at and chasing squirrels. The only time he bit someone was when my uncle was antagonizing him but that was it and I think he deserved it cause he was cool with everyone else.I would walk him around the nieghborhood all the time and no one would bother me.
I've been bitten more by small dogs than pit bulls. I personally feel that pit bulls are some of the most beautiful dogs I have ever met. So affectionate and people orientated.
S H1990 I grew up with pits and they’re awesome. The perfect, medium sized utility breed. Strong, biddable and usually healthy. They’ll gladly be as ferocious as you want them or as friendly as you let them become.
ohhhhh My goodness !! MY FAVOURITE DOG !!! I love love chow chow. I have never been so jealous in my life as watching this video an seeing all those fluffy puffy wuffy Cuties ever ! xoxo
I agree, that is fluffy heaven. But they, especially when they're 2-3 months old look like very cute fuzzy teddy bears, I'd love kiss and cuddle them all. They're cute no matter what color their hair is. Thank you for making this vid on the chow chow.
Been a proud owner of a Chow Chow for 4 years now. They are exactly as the care taker here says they are. Don't expect a cuddle dog because they aren't, only on their terms and they hate to be snuggled too much. They will let you know and walk away.
People need to stop saying any breed is "vicious" or "has a mean streak", its all in the breeding and the raising of the dog. Owners make dogs aggressive; the dogs are often doing what they think is wanted from them based on treatment/training or how they've been raised. Great ep as always, those Chow Chow loved you. :3
I have a black male Chow . He will be 4yrs Christmas day 2020 . His name is Braxton . I was surprised when you brought up the chicken problem ! Brax has been fed a raw chicken diet since 4 months old . He also has raw eggs daily . Chicken is an almost complete nutritious diet . Protein , fat , calcium ( the bones ) . He is given sweet potato wrapped in duck for fiber . Researching breeds before I bought him , he suited my lifestyle . He,s lazy ( lol ) very protective of me and a great watch dog . He is aloof at times , like a cat . Extremely loving to me but takes him a few times to warm up to any other people . He does not like to be cuddled but has to be near me . Very smart . I've babied him since 8 weeks old when I got him because of their natural aggressive behavior . I live in Canada and some insurance companies will not insure your property if you own a Chow because of their known aggressiveness . All of these things I knew about before I got him . He is thee most wonderful dog .
Love chows. Grew up with one and one time my 3 year old niece accidently got out and my parents chow followed her everywhere and made sure no one except my mom would get close to her
Hello dear viewers. More delectable chow content coming soon again 💙

I have a gray chow chow, she’s the love of my life. My dad loves her but as soon as I come back from university she doesn’t leave my side. She doesn’t care about strangers and will ignore them. She’s really silly and has quite some quirky habits, I’m so happy to see this kind of video.
How does the owner not resist hugging them every 10 seconds?
Took me over 2 hours to start filming I was having so much fun ❤️
Owner here. As the lady being interviewed stated, its all on their terms. She is spot on.
The Last Methbender you don’t
I have one and I never hug him lol they walk all over you if you let them lick and hug you. I don't even look at him.
The black Chow was just precious♡ They are all equally cute of course
A good demonstration of how loving chows can be! I have owned two and they were. wonderfully faithful companions and are never aggressive to cats or kids.
Their name literally means ‘Puffy Lion Dog’ lol
True x
In my country, Chow means to EAT!?
@@predpalina hahaha 😆😅🤣 in my country it means bye bye
Chow chow is a nickname used to describe imports from China's oriential empire. Maybe that's how it officially became the name of the dog breed.
松狮 are amazing,very smart too
Thanks for sharing this video it’s awesome to see my kindred being loved so much.
Awww sooooo sad 💔💔💔💔
So sad😢😢😢
These dogs are super beautiful and adorable. God bless the Chow Chow!
Yes, I've had many Chow Chows& love the breed
The personalities of your chow chows are a credit to you. You clearly make a grand effort to socialise them and have given them the time and effort to magnificently bond with you.
My sister in law raised Chows for years, had quite a few champions in her lines, they are amazing dogs, I will agree they are protective and as with any animal, if they are abused they can become mean. Like the lady says tho, it's all in how you interact with any dogs. You must have respect. I had 2 and loved mine very much. ❤
Ya and also Genetics plays a huge part as well 🤷♂️
My sister had a chow he loved me to death i took care of him for a year or two. Moved away for school. Came back and he hated me every time he saw handed to take a chunk out of me.
Wanted
my grandmother bred them for many years and had 14 at one stage but yet not one of them were aggressive, I helped her birth a puppy and he was my baby! most placid soft dog I have ever had! nurture if nature in my opinion 🙂 any dog can be aggressive
3:23 that dog n the back is contemplating life.
To woof or not to woof, that is the question.
Correction: he's probably contemplating life of a passing bird and how he can end it 😂
I think it’s best to adopt a chow chow when they’re still a small puppy, because then they’ll grow up being used to socialising, petting, cuddling, etc.
I would say that this goes for every breed of dog🤷🏻♀️
If you don't socialize a chow chow early, they can become dangerous to handle
That is your opinion supported by what? Of course all dogs benefit from early socialization. I have volunteered for years in chow rescue and have worked with hundreds of shelter dogs and find your statements to be uninformed and false.
@@paolajambrovic7835 You're not listening, yes what you say is true, but even more so for certain breeds, Chows being one.
They greeted her like a long lost pack sister right off the bat! How adorable...🥰
I would LOVE a greeting like that! ❤
We have 3 Chow Chows, all MA certified. All I ask from people is please “Don’t approach from the side”, Chow Chows have zero peripheral vision. The are great family members. Very loving. Peace.
+Jules Peace: How about, do not approach a chow at all? I tell people to let my dog go to them.
Chow chows are my favorite dogs. They look like soft teddy bears, but are independent, extremely loving and sweet to people they love, but sometimes can be wary of strangers and will not tolerate people threatening their loved ones...they are literally me in puffy dog form
Absolutely 💯
He is 6 inches taller at the withers then standard and weighs
Good for you. I would love to get another chow
Well, actually Shar Pei’s are very similar. They’re cousins of Chows and I’ll never get a different breed
My chow chow, Cream, was my absolutely favorite dog to date! She was quite violent w unfamiliar people, but despite that she was so sweet and gentle with me as a young child. Saved me from a lot of discipline from my parents hehe
Possessive is almost an understatement of how far this breed will go to protect their family 🤦🏾♀️
Even dogs spoil little girls. 🤦🏻♂️
i thi they might be inclined to protect the smalled members of the family, a lot of dogs are very protective of children
@@kermitlover5012 I have a Havanese who gets scary violent around strangers. But around me she's a little round teddy bear.
Anneka when entering the room is like a 3years old kid entering a room full of toys that she wants❤
Holy mother of cuteness
🥰
Ours was 3 months shy of 16 when he passed.
The best smartest most loving dog we've ever had. He was a pure breed with a grand national champion as a grand dad. He as a natural seizure detection dog. There is not a better dog on the planet.
Totally agree 👍
I grew up with 2 Chows, they were my first friends in life. I Still miss them, but this video made me smile.
Thank you for showing people that why I have spent over 30 years rescuing this Breed from abuse. They are the most misunderstood dog.
Thanks for your service to the breed

I had a pair, brother and sister. They were the best dogs I've ever had, and I've had all kinds over 70 years.
So wonderful to see these cutie fluffy girls! So adorable! :) I never saw Chow Chows in such a positive light. Wonderful!
OMG I'm gonna die...what big sweethearts
I've owned 3 and believe me they are not sweethearts. You always have to be cautious with them around strangers.
Everybody says the same thing about my beloved Rotts, Makitta. They have never harmed a living soul, including my little sisters. They protect me when I walk at night, and are loyal to a fault. It is all in how you love and train them...
@@Makitaization every dog is a sweetheart, they just need to be rightly trained

Me in self isolation
My friends chow chow is extremely aggressive towards strangers and is very protective of her back yard. These dogs really need proper training.
Agreed 👍
My next door neighbor had a chow chow and she was extremely aggressive as well. I would be very cautious with these dogs. They also seem to gravitate towards one person only.
Axe & Halligan 100%. Ppl don’t socialize them when there puppies. And give the dog a bad name.
"And her army of fluffballs." How could you say that with a straight face?
Best episode yet thus for a been waiting for a Chow episode I used to have a purebred black Chow and the way that chow behaved in the video is exactly the way my chow behaved, loving, caring, gentle, cuddly, affectionit, protective, tons of personality, best dog ever,it just depends how u raise them, and how much real love u put in,is how much love the dog will give back.
Those chows are like golden lab friendly. I socialized my chow as a puppy and she is neutral towards guests, not running up and greeting them! Wow!
Could you give me tips for socializing the breed?
@@user-et9xl3fr7n Spend a lot of time with them when they are puppies. They are pretty easy to train. If they are stubborn, try to firmly defuse those situations and reward them afterwards. Having an older dog helps alot too.
They are the fluffiest dog I have seen. So beautiful
Beautiful dog so cute and the owner does a great job in caring and training
I absolutely love the chow chow. They make me smile!!!♡♡♡
I love the fact that when she enters the house she doesn't pay attention to the owner and is like all over the dogs😂
This lady owner wow you can see she's researched her dogs history and you can see they whole family loves these doggies 😍😍
Thankyou for the kind comments and yes was told usa chows temperament can be different to European chows

So true. This lady only breeds from good natured dogs 👍Her socialisation skills are great too
Rottweilers are a breed that have an inherently mean temperament.
