      @@aaronlimebeer1829 way too low taking into consideration that the breeder I bought mine from has champions pedigree specimens and my pup is registered in the AKC as his parents too. He is now a year and half old and weights 175 lbs. he is not overweight by any means, we walk him twice a day every day for a total of 5miles, so just pure muscle and thick bones. I believe a full breed male weighting 120 has to be way underweight.

    I worked with mastiffs and rescued and rehabilitated them many years ago. I remember a neo great dane x English mastiff he was huge when he came in to our kennels he stood about 36 at the shoulder. And weighed in a massive 19 Stone. Our saving grace was he was a gentle giant. But we also had a English mastiff called Murphy. Who was actually bigger. Sadly he had to be put to sleep due to his aggressive behaviour. I also use to make collars and leads for mastiffs and some of those were huge for huge dogs . You are right Pilling on the pounds does not do the breeds any favours

    • @WhiteKitta
      @WhiteKitta Год назад +2

      I feel so bad for them, they have way more hanging skin then the original molossuss and that makes them just ugly dogs and can cause skin problems, ...and the heavy weight is definitely not good for them and neither are the way too droopy lower eyelids that will cause all kinds of eye discomfort and problems... I wish people would not create life that will be in pain and discomfort just so the dog can look a certain way...

    Wow, when I was a teenager my family had a Newfoundland and I thought he was large. The Mastiff is definitely a wonderful breed. I had a client in Seattle who had a Mastiff sanctuary. She had one part of her house that was just for the Mastiffs (They tore it up!). She moved from that home and bought another that was more Mastiff friendly. Since then, she looked at a home that was a combination of a horse stable on the ground floor and a 1500 square foot house on the second floor. She was talking about buying that and converting it for a new Mastiff shelter. I don't know if she ever did that though.

    So got to correct you. The old Irish Wolfhound was more a land race. There was one of the variant in Ireland that was a lot bigger than the current Irish Wolfhound. There was also short coat versions. The short coat version was crossed with Irish Mastiff and a very different sort of English mastiff or Roman mastiff and Greyhound to create the Great Dane. They were common enough in Ireland and Manor houses along with a particular type of Irish Lord. England ruled Ireland and gave dogs to German nobility a fair few times so the Germans just called them English dogs until they tried selling pups into places like France etc and swapped the name to Great Dane. Also the Scottish Deerhound is just a strain of Irish Wolfhound. Ireland had a kingdom in South West Scotland it then expanded and absorbed the picts and became the kingdom of Alba. The dogs are from our kingdom in Scotland. To this day the majority of dna in west/southwest Scotland is Irish. We are literally Scotland connection to anything celtic. The Deerhound was crossed with Greyhound and that is why is looks the way it does. Greyhounds literally come from our celtic hounds.

      it's just quite difficult to find good information on the estrela mountain dog. they are quite rare, and one of the reasons i watch your videos is because you are very careful to talk about the downsides to every breed, as well as the upsides. i really appreciate those who are open and clear about the fact that some breeds should not be had by everyone.
      and out of pure curiousity - what is it about the estrela that is NOT interesting to you?

    No mention of the St Bernard? My sister in law had one and he would rest his head on the dining table. The vet told them that Monty was very average, not big for the breed! I couldn't tell you how much he weighed, I should think it was a lot! 😂

    10 largest breeds without mentioning Saint Bernard? They are easily top 10 if not 5.

    Love the channel but a lot of this information is wrong. Malamutes are on average only a large dog breed not giant, with a normal weight being around 30-40kgs and a height of 26 inches they are somehow above Caucasian shepherds, sarabi and Alabais which are all dogs that are not only taller but often double the weight. Caucasians get from 160-220lbs according to the AKC, Sarabis are 150-198lbs and Alabais are 150-210lbs and all these dogs usually reach 28-31 at the shoulders. Where are these stats coming from lmao.

    My bro had an Irish Wolfhound. A very big dog. I saw that dog clear the dinner table with his tail. Unfortunately, my bro had to give the dog up. The incident involved one of his kids decided to take the dog for a walk. On the walk they encountered some children playing with a small dog. The wolfhound promptly charged at the smaller dog and grasped it in his jaws, then shook it to death. If that wasn’t enough he began to eat the dead dog. When I first heard of the incident, I thought the wolfhound would be euthanized as a result. But no, there was a law suit. My brother was ordered to pay a sizable monitory amount and was ordered to send the dog to a breeder who specialized in large dogs. That surprised us all.
