I've watched this so many times and I still cannot fathom how they couldn't tell just how much they were overmixing it. This is probably way harder than it looks so I'm not trying to drag Safiya, but man, that batter was VERY visibly thick, and then they kept blending anyway
To be fair, the things she does are already kinda clickbait-y, so the titles can be straight to the point. Not saying this as a bad thing though, I love all of Saf's videos.

My mom and dad used to make soap. It was so beautiful and no one really cared. It's such an underrated art form. I really loved helping my parents carve it, even though I wasn't good at it. It was the best.
it really sucks no one really appreciated the work your parents put into it, but i totally agree that carving soap has to be one of the most satisfying things ever
I've been watching Royalty Soaps for the last couple of years and the instant Tyler said "Maybe you should blend it for another 60 seconds", I almost screamed out loud at the screen, lol! I don't make soap but Katie from the channel is a sweetheart and offers a lot of advice (and is working on a "royal academy" for beginners) and I knew instantly that 60 seconds more at that point was too much :) Thank you, Katie, for teaching me that little bit about soap! And I'd like to try this at some point but I don't have much of anyone to give them to and don't want to make it a business...that market is congested already :)
You can say a lot of nice things about rococo, but "elegant" isn't one of them. It can be beautiful, exuberant, luxurious, whimsical, oozing splendour... but elegance implies a level of restraint that I don't think the rococo movement was interested in

I make and sell soap as a hobby, and I think for your first (successful ;) try you did good! It took me quite a few batches and about 6 months before I really figured things out. Well done!

I had to laugh on your first try when your soap got thich & seized!! That JUST happened to me recently - soooo frustrating! Read up about rebatching soap & using “old” soap for a confetti look in another single colored soap batch!

I love that she doesn't just stick to a particular niche or anything. She even literally says in this video that the idea just popped into her head to try it, so here we are trying it. It's because of this approach that her videos become so authentic and entertaining to watch no matter what happens.
This! Her work ethic is so refreshing. It seems a lot of the younger generations take as many short cuts as possible. I love that she gets scientific with her videos.
Hello again! I am here for some more commentary from my mom (who is a soap maker) when Saf was first trying to mix everything “No honey that’s more than enough.... yeah.... don’t feel too bad. It takes about a few dozen or more attempts before you get trace right.” When she cut the first one “hey! That looks way better than mine did the first time! My first one looked like burnt lasagna”
I was so heartbroken when you had to quit and start over but I love your dedication to giving us quality content by trying your hardest to do it right!
Okay so apparently I need to send you some fancy soap for you look at! 😂 AND, pro tip, you can unwrap it and put it in your drawers and it will make all your clothes smell amazing! 💗 Honestly, you did such an amazing job, especially since you learned via online tutorials only!!

Here is your problem with the swirling: Anne-Marie: ⬆️➡️⬇️➡️⬆️➡️⬇️➡️ You: ⤴️⤵️⤴️⤵️⤴️⤵️ Yeah, just re-watch your footage vs. Anne-Marie's, then maybe you can point out the different. She is going up, forward, down, forward etc. You are doing more of a wave movement. Hope this helped, btw your soaps looked great!

Years ago I was considering making soap as a gift for my mom. Realizing it was quite a bit of work, I gave up on that idea but it was the Soap Queen channel that I first learned how to even get started from. I had NO idea until this video that she was the one behind Bramble Berry! I now watch the channel Royalty Soaps for fun and Katie on there is always talking about the company. I always thought of it as just some faceless corporation but the CEO and founder herself is active on RUclips. That's amazing :)
I mean wouldn't the owner admire her own products? I had no idea she was the owner of brambleberry until I googled her a few days ago lol. I knew she was sponsored by them, but I kind of thought she was an employee.
I make soap for my living. I am such a huge fan of Saf so this was exciting to see and I was rooting for her bigtime. There is no doubt you mixed too long the first batch. Also 120 degrees is a bit too hot to soap at if you are wanting to do intricate swirls like those in Ann Marie's video. I would recommend you soap at room temperature to make sure you have a thin trace throughout so you have plenty of time to work with the batter. You did indeed pour your batter a bit slow as well. You really have to work fast if you are going to do a fancy design like the one you wanted. These are the reasons why the technique was listed as advanced. I made the same exact mistake my first batch and ended up with the dreaded "soap on a stick" you got as well. It is a learning experience and takes a lot of time but it is really fun and worth it. I have been doing it for 5 years now and absolutely love my job. I think considering this was her first attempts Saf did a fantastic job and as a soaper I appreciate how you highlighted the safety aspects in soaping. Keep it up Saf you will make the perfect loaf one day and it will be incredibly satisfying. :)

Emmalyn because the soap does stuff to it so it isn’t dangerous. It’s really confusing you just have to pay really close attention to her explanations.
@Emmalyn - Safiya sort of answers that at the beginning by explaining how soap is made. Lye ON ITS OWN is dangerous, but when it's mixed with oils, it is (on a chemical level) changed into something that isn't dangerous through a process called Saponification. Chemistry is so fascinating ♡
Emmalyn Saponification turns the oil and lye into fatty acid salts (soap) and alcohol. So, by the end of the process, there is no more lye and no danger.
It’s so weird when the person holding the camera never talks or is never mentioned. It’s weird thinking there’s another person there with the people being filmed. I love how Tyler talks and is mentioned
Safiya usually tries to give a scientific or historical context for her videos if she has time and it's relevant. It's amazing and I wish more beauty/fashion youtubers did the same thing. It's really something I admire about her video making style that I don't see many people noticing. It just goes to show, just cause something is easy to watch in a fun/casual way, doesn't make it mindless. :)

My mom and dad used to make soap. It was so beautiful and no one really cared. It's such an underrated art form. I really loved helping my parents carve it, even though I wasn't good at it. It was the best.

My favorite part of Anne Marie's videos is how hard she's trying to act like she doesn't own Bramble Berry and simply admires their products
Years ago I was considering making soap as a gift for my mom. Realizing it was quite a bit of work, I gave up on that idea but it was the Soap Queen channel that I first learned how to even get started from. I had NO idea until this video that she was the one behind Bramble Berry! I now watch the channel Royalty Soaps for fun and Katie on there is always talking about the company. I always thought of it as just some faceless corporation but the CEO and founder herself is active on RUclips. That's amazing :)

I make soap for my living. I am such a huge fan of Saf so this was exciting to see and I was rooting for her bigtime. There is no doubt you mixed too long the first batch. Also 120 degrees is a bit too hot to soap at if you are wanting to do intricate swirls like those in Ann Marie's video. I would recommend you soap at room temperature to make sure you have a thin trace throughout so you have plenty of time to work with the batter.
You did indeed pour your batter a bit slow as well. You really have to work fast if you are going to do a fancy design like the one you wanted. These are the reasons why the technique was listed as advanced. I made the same exact mistake my first batch and ended up with the dreaded "soap on a stick" you got as well. It is a learning experience and takes a lot of time but it is really fun and worth it. I have been doing it for 5 years now and absolutely love my job.
I think considering this was her first attempts Saf did a fantastic job and as a soaper I appreciate how you highlighted the safety aspects in soaping. Keep it up Saf you will make the perfect loaf one day and it will be incredibly satisfying. :)

Emmalyn because the soap does stuff to it so it isn’t dangerous. It’s really confusing you just have to pay really close attention to her explanations.
@Emmalyn - Safiya sort of answers that at the beginning by explaining how soap is made. Lye ON ITS OWN is dangerous, but when it's mixed with oils, it is (on a chemical level) changed into something that isn't dangerous through a process called Saponification. Chemistry is so fascinating ♡
Emmalyn Saponification turns the oil and lye into fatty acid salts (soap) and alcohol. So, by the end of the process, there is no more lye and no danger.

Safiya usually tries to give a scientific or historical context for her videos if she has time and it's relevant. It's amazing and I wish more beauty/fashion youtubers did the same thing. It's really something I admire about her video making style that I don't see many people noticing. It just goes to show, just cause something is easy to watch in a fun/casual way, doesn't make it mindless. :)
